Decent

I just didn't feel any connection or chemistry b/w the main characters. There was a lot of eye rolling on my part.

Virginal Love

This is the story of two young virgins (he is 22 and she is 19) who marry and start their wedded life. Neither of them know anything about love or sex. They find the love part easy as they were very attracted to each other. He fell in love at first sight and she soon after. He loved the sex part, she hated it (mostly because he was clueless and she became fearful - because he was clueless). At this point, anyone reading this can draw their own conclusions. This is basically the plot of the story. They are also total opposites. He is smart, pragmatic, and all business. She is an ethereal musician who lives in her own world. There is also a secondary story about her father and stepmother who are terrible role models. Although the story was rather weak on plot, the dialogue was very good. Eloisa James has a knack for communicating the emotions of her characters and this book was no different. Was it one of her best? No, but I enjoyed it and the two young newlyweds were very cute together.

Fun, romantic and constant. Never a dull moment.

I'm constantly amazed at how Eloisa James can write a story so vivid that I can't put it down.

Eloisa James Takes a Dive With This One!

This has to be the worst book Eloisa James has ever written. Susan Duerden gave her usual stellar performance, but even she could not rescue the two superficial main characters

who were stuck in a plot line that revolved around a wife faking orgasms and a husband's ego being hurt when he finds out. One of the things that bothered me the most about this story was that while the husband was off on his angry tirade, he has sex with a bar maid--ostensibly to learn more about what pleases a woman sexually. Nothing else was ever said about this infidelity in the book. I thought it was a huge deal because both the husband and wife had discussed the importance of fidelity before their marriage and he had told his wife that he hated liars above all else (referring to her faked orgasm). This book was a big disappointment and am going to ask for a refund. Don't waste your credit or $.

A fun, feel-good comfort read

I love books like this when I need a break from heavier more emotionally taxes stories.

I think I will have to try to book instead of the audiobook for this one, I can't stand the strong "British " accent it's too distracting

A DEFINATE PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO

Well Sylvia Day delivers another cleverly and skilfully written romance containing likeable characters which were all brought to life by the talented voice of Justine Eyre and jointly they will mentally transport you back in time to Regency England where you will find a rewarding and enjoyable listen awaiting you.

Right from their first meeting the all too handsome Thief-taker Jasper knew he had to have the wealthy heiress Eliza who was contemplating employing him on a secret mission, but he didn't want her money - he wanted her mind and body, but she thought he was just too everything.... too handsome, too charismatic, too sexy etc. Eliza therefore was reluctant to employ him - so, for Jasper, the challenge was set and he planned to woo and win her and his weapon of choice was of course.... seduction. However, during the task of finding out the who and why someone wanted to either scare or even kill her the couple became obsessed with each other and could no longer deny their fevered passions which resulted in some nice sexy, yet tender, love scenes.

There's passion, romance, sexual chemistry, likeable main H/H who are joined by a good supporting cast as well as an interesting plot that had hidden agendas, secrets, mysteries, murder, surprises, but mainly faith, trust and love won the day and when they were joined by truth then there could only be one outcome - and one we all love - a happily ever after.

Worth a credit? I would have happily spent a credit and not have been disappointed at all but as this was under $10 I bought it and saved the credit for my next more expensive listen.

If I could get my money back I would...

Although Audible hasn't listed it yet this is book 5 of The Highland Pleasures series and phew ..... what a book it was.

You have a very damaged Highlander - in walks Elliot who was mentally and physically tortured in India and who has returned home to the Highlands to try to stop the wedding of his childhood sweetheart however he is barely but desperately clinging on to his sanity. Juliana is about to be married but her heart has really always belonged to her childhood sweetheart Elliot - then fate steps in and gives the two another chance.

If you're a historical romance lover then this book will move you, excite you, sadden you, thrill you .... but above all, in the end it will give you that 'Ahhhhhhhh' feeling that comes after finishing a book that has ticked each and every box. This plot has passion, romance, sex, kilts, drama, funny moments, sad times, a couple of sub plots but above all there's a broken man clawing his way back to life and a woman willing to help him.

This could easily be a stand alone listen but the others in this series have each been a really great listen as JA's brilliant writing brings to life her fantastic characters and, as you mentally play each scene, you too will be drawn into a bygone era.

Worth a credit? Well that's a billowing YES across a clear blue sky.

I lost interest...

I wanted to like this book because I like the author's style and the narrator is very good. But unfortunately About two thirds of the book in I lost interest completely. There was no conflict at all. It was just pretty monotonous. The hero is an ex soldier dealing with PTSD. The heroine was stood up at the altar. The hero happened to be there and in a very casual conversation decided to marry her. The story was hot but nothing interesting happened. I guess it was missing the Mackenzie spice of the previous books. I'm returning this one.

Beautiful, romantic duo!

Elliott is the brother of Ansley who is married to a Mackenzie and I love the Mackenzie brothers. They are mentioned from time to time but this story is about Elliott overcoming his darkness with the help of his first love Julianna. The narrator is perfect for these stories, she does a wonderful job!

In line for my favorite!

Who knew PTSD could be so sexy?! Okay, so not really. But imagine with me Chris Hemsworth as a Scottish soldier in India; captured and tortured, finally free to pursue health and happiness in Scotland. A beautiful lass that he loved even as a youth waiting at the altar.

Great book. Goes to a darker place sexually & sensually than any of Ashley's other books. As always, great characters & perfect narration.

Imagine My Joy!

Imagine my joy when I saw Audible add this book!

First I will stipulate that I'm an old and devoted Laura Kinsale fan. I have been reading romance for over 35 years, and this book, along with another Kinsale wrote called "Flowers From the Storm" are two of the best, and most memorable books I have ever read. I snatched this up right away when I saw it had been released, and even though it was a well loved, well remembered re-read, I was loathe to put it down.

Laura Kinsale is a scrumptious author. She an intelligent romance writer, and I don't think there's anyone out there who writes romance quite like her. She doesn't follow the common tropes. The heroine isn't always a virginal dilettante` (or even likeable at times), the heroes aren't always noble (nor are they always all that heroic), and love isn't always at first sight. The characters are built into real people by her talented pen, and the relationships grow before your eyes, or rather "your ears" since this is an audiobook.

Which brings me to the narration. This was my first time listening to Nicholas Boulton, but I was not in any way disappointed. His accents were very good, his delivery was smooth and his tone stayed faithful to the mood of the material he was reading. He did a fantastic job, and I will admit I was very worried that one of my favourite books would be given to a narrator who couldn't do it justice. Thank goodness, Nicholas Boulton came through with flying colours.

The story is, in as small a nutshell as I can cram it, the story of a girl whose whole family is killed by a religious cult. In the early aftermath of her grief, she wants revenge on the leader of the cult. So she seeks out a fabled highwayman to help reach her goals. She finds him, but he's not quite what she expected. There's plenty of action to follow, but Kinsale uses the action cleverly to also move along (or in some cases, hold back) the relationship aspect of the story. As the two work toward resolving their feelings about each other, they also have to look inward as well. The sex scenes in this book are all meaningful, each for a different reason, and they blend in nicely but, compared to some current bestsellers, are a bit rarer and tamer than what some readers might be used to.

I will be perfectly honest and tell you that if you are looking for an instant relationship, gratuitous sex scenes, or an easy bunch of literary tropes strung together to make a book, you shouldn't read this author.

What did you love best about Cheyenne Amber?

I loved the entire book. I hated when it ended. Excitement from the beginning

Who was your favorite character and why?

Laura and Deke were such a sweet couple. He rough and tough and she so Boston. But in the end she learned to love his life and his ways. Knowing that he loved her Son as his own and would die for them both made my heart warm Would love to hear a sequel to this book.

I laughed and I cried

Has a lot going for it!

I wasn't sure I was going to like the story but I found myself enthralled with it. There were parts where I found myself crying. Sounds depressing but it's like a good movie. The characters were very interesting and had depth. I wanted to slap Laura and tell her to snap out of it a few times. I think that's the only part of the book I wasn't happy with. She became manipulative and whiney several times to the point of madness.

All in all I enjoyed the story very much. The fact that a man could love a child so much that wasn't his, was heart warming.

Although not my favorite narrator. The narration did not take away from the book at all. This is my first Catherine Anderson. I may venture for another peek..

What does James Langton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

He is an awesome narrator! What a range of tones and accents. I tried to listen to one of the second epilogues when they first came out and the narration was so hideous that I could not finish even one, but James Langton has saved the day, as it were.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not particularly. It just makes me smile fondly and sigh happily, visiting those wonderful Brigertons again.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I would have preferred different endings for some of the sections.

Yes, her first Bridgerton book was very good.

What didnt you like about James Langtons performance?

I wish there was a female narrator for the female parts and a male for the male parts. Langton didn't do a very good female narration.

It did answer a lot of questions left over from the earlier books.

The book has second epilogues for earlier Bridgerton stories. It was ok,but not riveting. I didn't care for the narrator. A female narrator would be better. The price of the ebook dropped but I didn't like the audio version enough to purchase it.

Disjointed stories

I agree with the previous reviewer -- if I remembered each of the novels in the Bridgerton series, I would be able to figure out the 'second epilogues' collected here. Instead the book reads (for me) as a collection of disjointed, albeit sometimes amusing, vignettes.

The narration is splendid. It is for that reason that I listened to the entire book.

I found this book very entertaining. All the characters are so full of life and are delightful. The main characters (Rose & Sin) love to challenge each other by games or verbally. Their sparring contributes to the witty banter throughout the story. Rose is not afraid to say what's on her mind. T he Duchess (Sin's aunt) adds to the fun. She loves to meddle in a good way of course! BTW: The narrator was excellent!

Karen Hawkins is the best

I love Karen Hawkins style of writing. Her books are light and funny. AMust listen!

A WITTY & ENTERTAINING REGECY ROMP

A light, funny, feel good listen that's filled with lots of comical verbal sparring by various amusing likeable characters that are all either engaging in deception, trickery or revenge - but all for the sake of love.

The H & H were drawn to each other but their relationship was based on, and came out, in the form of one-up-manship in the form of house party challenges that always seemed to go wrong for one or other of them. But despite everything the passion and attraction couldn't be denied and each time their desires grew boundaries fell but given this second chance could the two love birds overcome the 6 years of humility and disgrace they each felt. The sex scenes were very discreet and not described in detail at all.

Worth a credit? It was a fun listen and made me laugh - so for that reason I'm going to say YES.

She's a great storyteller with wonderful characters, and the narrator was perfect for the story

I love the strong characters and intelligent women Karen always manages to bring to life. Her wit along with the beautiful scenery and history makes this series my favorite in the genre.

Nice narration of an okay story

I can admit that I have wanted to read this book since first seeing the blurb in the Julia London newsletter. I hadn't read but one of her other Hadley Green series but the blurb stuck in my mind and wouldn't let go. Learning it was going to be simultaneously released in audio, narrated by one of my favorite narrators EVER--Justine Eyre--sealed the deal.

However, it did not turn out as well as I had anticipated. I had several problems with and I'm not sure if it is because I listened to it and these issues just sounded worse when said out loud or if the book and myself never connected. I didn't like the grandmother. Although I don't condone corporal punishment upon the elderly, I wouldn't have blinked if that woman had gotten slapped. Hard. She came off as shifty and seriously whacked. Like two faces of Eve, medication is never going to fix this, eventually kill people in their sleep, whacked.

The narration really brought out the faults in this story for me. Whether that was due to narrator interpretation or bad writing, I don't know. I personally don't think it was the narrator's fault. Eyre's performance was quite pleasant. I could tell the difference in the males and females, Scottish and English, and the main characters personalities (unfortunately) shown through clearly. Her pacing flowed, the pauses were natural and there were no noticeable inhalation of breaths. She was Morgan Freeman in a Mike Meyers movie, too cool to be contained...

I don't know if I will read another Julia London title after this. I may if the library gets a copy and I can read it. I do know I won't be listening to any more of them if given the opportunity. It is sometimes easier to ignore a story's weaknesses when you read it; like in real life, it's much harder to ignore it when someone else points it out.

Starts a little slow but hang in there

Loved this story, it's very well written and the narration is top notch! I had a little trouble at first getting into the story but then it took off and I was hooked. I love the use of the Gaelic language and the narrators ability to say it all correctly. The storyline progresses very well after the small bump in the begining and the narrator is wonderful.

Daria Babcock's entire life is turned completely upside down when she decides to visit her grandmother in Scotland. Everything she knows to be true will be tested and it will take a stubborn Laird to help her straighten things out.

A PASSION FILLED EXCITING GEORGIAN ROMANCE

Just when I thought I could finally get some sleep...... Sylvia Day brings out yet another must have listen in her Georgian series and once again I'm totally hooked.

This was particularly good - childhood sweethearts Colin and Amelia lose touch but eventually reunite years later unfortunately it's at the worst possible time for both of them (isn't it always!) as she's getting engaged to a long-time friend and Colin is a spy who's undercover and who want's her and out of the spy business. This is sooo touching as Amelia's torn between old love, a friend's love and a new exciting love and Colin has to fight hard first to try to stay away from her then to fight for her.

It's go passion, heartbreak, sex, tension, excitement and brilliant romantic characters to empathise with - there are some characters that we know well as we have met them before in previous books so, to get the most out of this series, they're not really meant to be stand alone listens. There's some bad language too so it may put some of you off.

Worth a credit? Again, and I've said it before in my previous reviews, it's a cheap series to just buy and we'll worth it - however I would gladly have used credits.

Worth the price

Cheaper than most paperbacks so why not settle back and listen to a little Georgian romance?

Collin and Amelia are star crossed lovers divided by bloodlines. She's a peer of the realm, he's a gypsy stable boy. Their love propels their paths together and then away, flash forward several years and Amelia thinks Collin has died (although how is never explained) and Amelia finds loving another man that's not Collin impossible until a masked stranger comes into her life and upsets everything she has settled into. Now she must choose between reckless abandon or staid security. The choices she makes will forever alter everyone's lives.

I liked how this story dives right in and captured my attention. I had never read one of Slyvia Day's books before so I didn't know what to expect, unfortunately for me this is a series and many characters from other books find their way in and out of the story making this book hard to stand alone. I would reccomend starting with book one and progressing from there. I often lost track of characters, playing a game of "who was that again?"

While I can't say this book is stellar it is a nice story and at just over $7 it's worth the price. Justine Eyre gives an admirable performance as the narrator, not my favorite but still pleasant to listen to. The sex scenes are a bit graphic so be fore warned. I did not take offense but some might.

Loved the story, but not the narrator.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. But I might suggest they read it. I really didn't like the male voices the narrator created. I amost stopped listening to it because of it. The story, however, captivated me and I continued. Happy that I did because it's a very well written story.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

the male voices all had a nasal / whiney sound to them. Very unappealing. I would suggest she work on them.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

a better narrator.

A differant narrator!!!! Its a great story but painful to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Bastard?

The confrontation at sea. A very wide statement considering. But from the personal to the political the confrontations are the height of it.

Did Sarah Coomes do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

NO NO NO NO NO!! I can't even express how awful it was. Ii wanted to hear the story but winced everytime a character spoke. The narrators speaking voice is pleasant but when she attempts voices they are slovenly, thick, painful slow and idiotic sounding. Its like all the characters open their mouths to speak and turn into drunken illiterate old men who have trouble breathing and speaking and are hoarse and spittle plagued.

You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I DID LOVE THE BOOK! The story in all aspects are splendid. .. but READ it... don't waste a credit or a dollar on the audio version!!!! Its such a shame.... it really is.

If it had a different narrator I would wholeheartedly praise this book. But if you want lighthearted fluff with giggles and luxury then this one isn't for you. And if you want steamy hot and bothered erotic scenes then this still isn't for you.
