"Anne Flosnik seems to have a wonderful time with this romance, reading in staid, unemotional tones that fit Douglas's attitude about marriage. As hot-blooded Alex discovers lust that quickly turns to love, Flosnik's reading engages the listener right though to the luscious conclusion." (AudioFile)

Misogynists & superficial-ism tucked in story
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, many things. First I don't care the time period, I don't believe in anytime and any class it would be accepted on repeated occurrences for a group of six or more people to berate one sister in reference to another sister's beauty over and over. I found it offensive to the story. Once the character accepts and grows to admire and want to keep the woman as his wife, I find it hard to believe for a very long time period for him to repeatedly be so cruel towards her appearance when he obviously is fond of her. Also, he repeatedly talks of her sisters beauty even after he is committed to his wife. The most effective, admirable and interesting character was Sinjin, the little sister of the offensive brute.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was good. I was surprised I stuck with it after there were so many disturbing aspects to the story. I suppose the constant disturbing parts were for psychological effect or something.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
It was adequate. I do think that other narrators could do it better. To qualify that statement, I am picky about narrators and feel some are good at some types of stories, accents and gender differences. I have favorites I buy books because they are masters of narration.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I have read and listened to various very offensive topics and material however, the degradation by family, friends and strangers of the main character was not necessary to the story. The message she is not as pretty as her sister and other pretty girls was beat into the ground.
    Any additional comments?
I did finish the book. The ending was charming but......... I bought the second book before I listened to this one. So I will try it. On a separate note the main characters are developed. Some of the more complex points of the story are quickly skipped over. I did really like her book, Split Second and a couple others.

    great book
cassie edwards did it again audible needs to carry all her series
    Blech...
I thought I would give a new romance genre a try and was thinking that this would be a good try. Where I imagined listening to a "Dances with Wolves" type story, I'm getting a dismal 1950's TV plot script. The writing of the story is full of trite phrasing (ex... "oh my darling")and the characters are so one dimensional that I'm finding I don't really care about any of them.
I'm going to finish listening to the story only because I'm stubborn and finish what I start. But I'm feeling like it is a chore. Don't waste your credit!
    Awsome
Where does Savage Skies rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Savage skies is the first audible book I have purchased. I have read all of Cassie Edwards Savage series but actually listening to someone tell the story, it was AWESOME! I enjoy reading but listening to someone read to you, its as if you involved in your own personal story telling time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Savage Skies?
The story line is one that is so familiar to our society; family violence. Shirleen demonstrated being a strong willed women, one on many missions.
Have you listened to any of Rebecca Cooks other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first narrated book and I thought Rebecca Cook did an outstanding job telling the story. She is remarkable when it comes to the switching of characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    Karma in the bad lands.

    Fast read
This book is read very fast, no voice inflections, hard to follow and distinguish one character from another. very rushed, i am an hour into it and already regretting the purchase
Buy the book, not this narration
I enjoy all SL novels, especially the Cynster stories. This story would have been as fabulous as the others if not for the poor narration. It is quite obvious that the narrator is no Simon Prebble. While her voice is very pleasant, Ms. Carr left a lot to be desired with the lack of inflection. The love scenes, the drawing room conversations and even the action parts were read with the same, monotonous voice. The hero and heroine along with the supporting characters all shared the same voice. Unless you listened carefully to each and every word, it was difficult to tell when something of import was happening and when the "filler" parts of the story were taking place.
Listening to this novel was incredibly boring. Not quite painful, but a very tedious listen. Unfortunate, as the story itself is very good.
    donna
Very nice mind candy for multi tasking
Did not like that book seemed so short
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There seemed to be a lot missing from the story, I thought I could get over but in the end I was not able to.
Has The Perfect Lover turned you off from other books in this genre?
    No
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katie Carr?
    Ros landor
What character would you cut from The Perfect Lover?
    None
    Ok
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Stephanie Laurens is a great story teller but the narration is TERRIBLE! I was expecting someone that spoke with an American accent but this was English from England. It was annoying and not what I imagined. Wish someone else would have told the story!
What did you like best about this story?
I love Stephanie Laurens and she writes great books
Did Katie Carr do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
NO! She was terrible. If I see her name I will not listen to that book!!
What character would you cut from The Perfect Lover?
    Character... Katie Carr!!!
    Any additional comments?
Katie Carr DOES NOT NEED TO NARRATE. PERIOD!

    Publisher's Summary:
It is just days before Christmas, 1940. The war is raging in Europe when Kate Jamison makes her debut in New York City. In a room filled with scions of East Coast society and the leading political figures of the day, it is Joe Allbright who catches Kate's eye. At 29, Joe is the brilliant protégé of Charles Lindbergh, and already a legend in flying circles for his record-breaking speed and state-of-the-art airplane designs. All Kate sees is a tall, strikingly handsome man who seems at once awkward and larger-than-life, like a shining star - just out of reach. Joe, too, is caught off balance by his response to Kate, seeing in this beautiful woman vitality and youth, the lifelong soulmate he never expected to find.
Against a vivid backdrop of war and thrilling innovation, Danielle Steel breathes life into history, weaving an intensely human story that spans three decades, of two tremendously different people, who in spite of themselves, are irrevocably woven into the fabric of each other's lives. With rare insight and emotional power, she brings to life a tale of unconditional love, sacrifice, and compromise - the joining of two remarkable halves into a single, far more powerful whole. It is a novel of extraordinary grace and compassion from a master storyteller, perhaps the best story she has ever told.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lone Eagle?
When the husband lied to the lover about her being crazy . Makes you want to kill him.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When he came off the boat and she finds him .
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    All of the above...
Not one of her best books
I've read quite a few of Danielle Steel's books and this to me is the worst of them. To me, it was a very depressing read. Everytime I thought it going to get better,it just dragged on & on.
    Disappointing
I have enjoyed other books by this author, but I didn't even finish listening to this one. I waited for it to get better, but it never did. Don't waste a book credit on this.
    Lone Eagle
A love story that transcends decades. The beginning of aviation as we know it today. With a look at WWII.
    Least likable characters
The two lead characters were the least likable people ever. I kept hoping there would be something redeemable about them but no.

Love is worth a little scandal.
Owen Hadley needs a wife. Preferably a wealthy one. Alas, there aren't a great number of heiresses willing to marry a rogue of no particular fortune - luckily, if there is ever a gentleman capable of melting a lady's chilly heart, it's Owen.
Milly has had enough of the marriage mart. If matrimony means giving up her freedom for a foppish husband, then society can take their idea of marital bliss and toss it. But when the ton's most notorious rogue mistakenly makes his way into her bedchambers, Milly finds herself unexpectedly and unwillingly at the altar....
Yet, the more time she spends with her new husband, the more Milly starts to wonder if the marriage she never wanted may be the best thing that's ever happened to her. Now it's up to Owen to convince Milly that what started as a mistake is anything but - and that every night with him will be more wonderfully scandalous than the last.

    AMUSING.
This was one of the best forced marriages I have ever encountered. Millie was MAGNIFICENT and her haute attitude was great. But it didn't take Owen long to melt her heart. I just wish there would have been a little more to the ending. Just a little too abrupt.
    Fine afternoon read.
Can a forced marriage turn into a love match? Hmmm. Owen Hadley and Milly Pepperwirth are oil and water. A challenging HEA becomes a lovely, charming path to love in this second book in the Sins and Scandals series. Just right.
    Good Book
I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for more in the series. This is about Owen who needs a wife and Milly who doesn't want a husband. I really enjoy all of lauren smiths books.

Trapped in the wrong time, she needs a knight in shining armor, but this damsel in distress might be the real savior.
With a day planner attached to her hip, the last thing Katy Tolson wants is a romance that threatens her well-ordered life. She's set to marry the safe - but bland - guy, but something's not quite...right. A careless wish thrusts her through time into medieval Wales and into the arms of a knight in somewhat shining armor.
Sir Robert Beucol, half-Norman and half-Welsh, lives with the shame of his father's treason and vows to reclaim his family's holdings and thereby his honor. To prove himself to his king, he must be more Norman than a full-blooded Norman. What better way to show loyalty than to fight his mother's people? He has no desire to be sidetracked by the mysterious wench with pink toenails, peculiar habits, and passion smoldering behind her cool, collected exterior.
The Welsh uprising fits perfectly into Robert's plans. Katy's on the other hand? That's a no. As they embark on a perilous journey through the heart of Wales, each passionate encounter pulls them closer together, but farther from their goals. When everything they value is at stake, can they save each other and their love?
    Members Reviews:
    Just No.
Wow, I really don't know where to begin with this review. This story was a real struggle to get through. The language barrier between the two was just not realistic. The chemistry between Katy and Robert was forced and did not feel genuine at all. The entire story suffered drastically and it was very hard to enjoy. I thought with an hour left the story was going to get better. No. This was not the case. It did not get better it actually got more ridiculous.
The storyline and plot was just not very good and I think the year 1294 was a bit too far back to go. This book was nothing like the previous book at all. I cannot recommend it.
As for the narration, Mary Jane Wells did a very good job considering what she had to work with. She gave all the characters their own distinct voice and read with the motion, she also has a very nice reading voice. So, I do recommend the narrator.
Same premise as Outlander, shorter, less complex
This is a regular one book historical romance set in late 13th century Wales. Book has same basic premise as Outlander in that a modern woman finds herself accidently transported back in time. That is where the similarities end however.
I enjoyed this book. The heroine of the story was neither TSTL or a raving bitch - such a breath of fresh air. The story was fast-moving and kept my attention.
The narrator did a GREAT job (to my American ears) with the different characters and the multiple accents required for each... British, American, French and Welsh. Having been an American on vacation in Wales [me attempting to read a map aloud ... may I PLEASE buy a handful of vowels!], I was especially impressed with her pronunciation of all the Welsh words and place names.
The romance was very sweet and I like both the hero and the heroine.
    Time-traveling into Medieval Time
Must Love Chainmail is a better than Must Love Breeches. I didn't really like some of the elements in Must Love Breeches but Must Love Chainmail makes more sense from the beginning to the end of the story.
Katy Tolson is a control freak since the day her father walked out on her eighth birthday.

    Members Reviews:
My favorite Eloisa James! Yes, I've read them all.
This is an extremely humorous but still quite romantic book. James has a gift for sly humor and the careful observation of the not-always-so-delightful way in which children enliven our lives. I read this book a few years ago and liked it so much I wanted to hear it performed. Of course, the reader couldn't outperform the voices in my head but she came very close. Wonderful! There is an order to these books. Cam and Gina's story comes before this - Duchess in Love. Esme's story runs through these books -Duchess Quartet series. Although there is no Duchess at the heart of this story
    I'M A FOOL FOR E.J.'S BOOKS
Because of a hip problem Henrietta is unable to have children as her mother had the same condition and died in childbirth so this takes her off the 'marriage mart' but she dreams of motherhood. However, she doesn't plan on meeting Simon, a devout bachelor and longs for a love that just cannot be - but she writes herself a love letter which has dire consequences for them both.
Enjoyable and fun romance with likeable main characters and a good supporting cast of other characters. It also catches up with Esme and Sebastian's story from book 1 but it could be a stand alone book.
Worth a credit? It's all you want from a Regency romance and it's written by E.J. so it's a definite YES from me.
Too much time on side characters, boring
If you are going to write a story and spend a lot of time on the side characters at least make them interesting or finish their story. Unless I missed something which it's possible I did because listening to this was almost torture at points, the major side characters story was not finished.
Again I might have been asleep during her last chapter so please feel free to ignore this above comment if that is the case. Or you can not ignore it and know that the side character was so bloody uninteresting that I was put to sleep by it...
I didn't really care for the Heroine either, she seemed to be different characters every time she was actually a main focus for the author. She confused me as a lead character. When you are first introduced you think she is this strong independent woman that could take care of herself, then she seems to morph into a shy insecure woman and the morphing isn't smooth enough to make much sense.

    Book 2 in a series!
I can understand the frustreration in the previous reviews as this book can not stand alone. Only two characters situations are wrapped up as the others stories continue to progress until their stories are told further along in the series. Poppy and Fletch are not introduced in the first book so a great deal of time is spent developing their characters. James creates an entire world for her characters to live in. There are complicated connections that must be explained and read in order to understand. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will read the other books in the series to find out what happens to the others. A decent love scene is not revealed until the last part of the book, but is entirely worth the wait. Of course the problem between this married couple could be solved by honest conversation but that is not how things were done in those times. In my opinion that is whay I read this type of novel. I enjoy the long suffering periods of struggle between the characters as it makes the resolution so much sweeter. I missed the characters after the story was over. Since an audio book does not exist for the last remaining books in the series, I have ordered the paperbacks. I must say I haven't read a book in years preffering the flexibily of audio titles. Worth it if you like the long suffering, minimal interaction that is characteristic of this genre. Also, PLEASE READ IN ORDER!

There were things I loved and hated about this book. When Poppy met the Duke, it was love at first sight for both of them. But four years into the relationship, there is NO passion, and perhaps no love. Unfortunately, because of the way EJ crafted the characters, the reader has to blame Poppy for their failed relationship. In EJ's quest to make Poppy innocent & naive, she has (perhaps unwittingly) made Poppy stupid & annoying. I can understand that because of the time period Poppy has little knowledge of marital relations. And because of her less than stellar mother, the knowledge she does have is tainted by an extreme hatred of men. But, Poppy's continued ignorance so far into her marriage makes her do and say things that are truly stupifying. You will honestly want to shake/slap some sense into her. Sadly, it was impossible to sympathize with her. And then, when Poppy is finally able to overcome her issues, she does so in such an overly-dramatic way that it's a bit eye-roll inducing.
BUT, there are some really good parts of this book.
