Adds a whole new layer to the paper book

Bias alert - I'm already a Grace Burrowes fan and this was one of my early purchases in paper. So I questioned buying the audiobook. SO glad I did!

James Langton adds a whole layer of depth to the characters. Picks up the voices I thought the characters might have in my head and makes them totally come alive. Totally loses me in the story so that I'm barely aware of anything else.

This is a repeat listen for me. No stereotypical characters here. Very flawed, very human and very addictive people. I felt like I was immersed in family, watching things play out.

One of the best authors writing enhanced by one of the best narrators out there. So long as Burrowes is writing and Langton is narrating, these are immediate must buys for me.

If you haven't experienced the bliss of listening to (or reading) one of Burrowe's books, you need to. These make you want to listen again and again. They never get old and I always come away feeling like I've spent time with old friends.

I do not agree with Karen (last reviewer)

Had I read her review I would have perhaps not purchased this book. However, after reading it I purchased the next in line. Yes they do repeat her bad marriage etc, but I would be the first to have zero patience for repetition and this story only mentioned that when it was needed. The reviewer goes on to talk about Mary Balogh. Now that is a writer who can eliminate about 1/2 her stories loaded with mind babble and repetitions,to end up with a good book.

I liked this book. So much so that I finished it all in a day. It was real and the reader can feel the despair the sisters felt. I am not crazy about the picture on the cover (silly look on his face and she is not the dropped jaw gorgeous heroine described in the book). Fabulous narrator!

It was in winter? Oh, yah, it was.

Either way it was very enjoyable. A tad slow.... a simple plot.... but enjoyable.

It was well performed with the single exception of "dowager" being "dowanger " with that irritant set aside it was good narration.

It was hot and steamy too!

I was pleasantly surprised.

I randomly picked this book because it suggested that I would like it...I loved it. I can't wait until the other ones come out

What disappointed you about An Affair in Winter?

There was no real story. It was a lot of navel gazing and repeating of the same thing. I am half way through and it is the 8th time someone has explained the widows bad marriage. How many times do they have to explain that the marriage was bad to have the reader understand the marriage was bad. I can just keep repeating the marriage was bad, the marriage was bad, the marriage was bad. That takes care of the first half of the novel's plot.

I use to really like this author, but she has gone downhill in her writing. She doesn't even bother to do any character development after she has the h/h have sex. Then it's just a series of sexual encounters that take the place of character development.

What could Jess Michaels have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It would be nice if the h/h aren't the most beautiful people on earth and that their attraction is the only thing they have in common. This book is even faster than most modern relationships. The h/h have sex after having dinner in the second chapter and they expect it to be a one night stand. This could just as easily be a contemporary novel.

I am not sure why she places them in regency times.

I found this book to be a bit 'corny'. I have enjoyed her other books.

Excellent! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Loved it, narration good though a bit singular to the ear, got easier to follow over time.

Ehhhh Just Ok

I feel like this could of been a YA listen and not a HR. I also feel like the narrator voice is too modern for a story that takes place in the 1300's. It was just ok to me, I mostly skipped around. It couldn't hold my attention.

I couldn't get past all the poor historical references. It was just too much to over look for me. And to be honest the narrator's voice and characters inflection was awful..I could have stabbed a ice pick in my head it was that annoying.

Wonderful Time Travel Romance

So different from most of this type of read or listen. Much more real than what I am used to in the world of time travel romances. Great characters, all the "feels" and a really amazing romance made this a five star read for me. Narration was nothing short of perfect for me.

Absolutely sublime.

Honestly, one of the very best books I have ever experienced. I was completely captivated from the start and that interest never waned. I normally jump right on to the next book in my library but I'm so sad this story is over that I can't even think about starting something else. I've loved everything that Tiffany Reisz has written but this was on another level for me. The narration was perfect and just how I imagine Faye would sound. Absolutely sublime.

I can't believe this book has such great reviews. I love the idea of the story but the writing is very amateurish. I tried to keep reading because it was our book club choice, just couldn't do it.

Great book in a great series!

I loved this series and a Lady in Disquise was a wonderful conclusion. All of the stories were well written, engaging, and satisfying. Elizabeth Jasicki is one of my favorite narrators and she does a superb job.

A Lady waits

I chose this story because the author wrote my favorite story so far, "Mist at Midnight." This story took a long time before you became engaged with the characters. Not one my favorite stories.

An absolute treat!!

If you enjoy Gothic-mystery-romance, this book is for you! A perfect balance of romance and suspense with very likable and well-developed characters. The narration by Elizabeth Jasicki is superb. I am really looking forward to other works by both the author and the reader. Highly recommended, a delicious reading treat in this genre.

Great read

As full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review, so I am pleased to be able to give it an enthusiastic 5 stars. First a technical critique: although there were a few grammatical errors and a missing word here and there, they were far fewer than the typical ebook. In fact, I consider myself something of a grammar nerd, and this book pleases. The period descriptions of clothing, furnishings and life styles were detailed without being tedious as is so often the case. In fact, they definitely added flavor and interest to the story.

Now to the best part: the story. It was intricate and not really what I was expecting at all. It definitely exceeded my expectations. Olivia, the female lead, goes through definite character growth, and Milbourn is everything you could ask for in a reluctant hero. The other reviews and the synopsis give a good picture of the story, so just know that there are plenty of twists and turns and yes, the heroine is indeed in danger of being accused of murder. I read it in one day, because I didn't want to put it down....good thing I am retired and love to read!

Another winner!

I LOVED Olivia's story. I had liked Olivia as a character when she appeared however briefly in the last book so was glad that she got a book of her own. The author did a good job in misleading us as to who the protagonist is. I did have my suspicions but was not absolutely sure about it until it was revealed at the end of the book. The book is well edited and the story flows smoothly. This is a definite re-read for me! It is so hard to find a great story that is clean. This book delivers without the gratuitous sex found in other books. I started the book in the evening and didn't want to be it down. I very seldom read a book twice but this is a definite re-read for me!

Great book

What a great story of mystery, faith and yes, romance. Loved it!! Usually I have trouble with English accents but this narrator was perfect.

wonderful christian book

I have found a new author I really like. this book is a reminder that god works all things out for good...even the horrible things that happen in our lives will do so if we trust in him. I highly recommend this book to one and all. again what a relief to to listen to a clean book with a mystery that will keep you rivited from beginning to end. I am eagerly awaiting for audible to produce more books by this author.

Sweet, Tragic, Mystery, Restoration & Romance

This is the first Carrie Turansky book I have listened to. I enjoyed it very much.

Maggie and Nate were childhood friends. Her father worked for his father until tragedy strikes. Maggie and her sister are mistreated by Nate's family, while Nate is kept away. It is only when Nate returns, after his own father's death, that he reconnects with Maggie. He does not understand Maggie's mistrust and negative feelings and will do anything to help her. What follows is Nate and Maggie searching for the truth. I won't give spoilers. If you like this time period, this is a MUST LISTEN!

I listened to this on a road trip which required me to press pause a couple of times. I couldn't wait to get back to the car and turn it back on.

The narrator did make a couple of mistakes, but her overall performance was okay.

Same female character is called grandfather as often as grandmother This was So confusing at first but then it was just SO ANNOYING!! her enunciation was certainly problematic at other times but nothing like calling grandmother grandfather
