"Supremely sexy, emotionally involving, and graced with well-written dialog, this gently paced, baby-centered story is a fascinating, enjoyable read and nicely connects with the author's earlier books." (Library Journal)

    Jarring Accent Error
    Dear James Langton:
You've done a wonderful job narrating so many of Grace Burrowes' books, that I am sorry to tell you that there is one misstep in your performance of this series that is becoming very difficult to overlook: The character of Devlin St. Just was raised in the Windham Ducal household, and not in Ireland as you must believe given the accent you use for him. In fact, St. Just should be read with the same English accent as the rest of his family!
As a fan, it's very distracting to listen to a book when the wrong voice is being used for the voice of a well-loved character, much less an important accent to the period. Such a glaring error pulls the listener right out of the book.
Perhaps the the notes you received from Tantor detailing the bio of the character, focused on the Irish half of his ancestry, but failed to emphasize the way in which he was raised, (i.e., the privileged son of a Duke -- and not a poor, half-Irish bastard). I can see how that might happen, but there are so many more books to read in this series, and St. Just will be in most of them! I would hate to see you continue to read this character with the wrong accent, and thereby spoil all of your effort, as well as the books.
You are a wonderful narrator who clearly puts a great deal of heart into his work, so I feel sure you will wish to know about this unfortunate mistake.
    Your's truly,
    bsg

    Publisher's Summary:
An American heiress and widow of a rakish English earl, Catherine has returned to New York high society determined to make amends for the scandal she caused when she crossed the Atlantic to elope with her best friend's suitor and win the title of Lady Bisterne. But a ruined reputation isn't the only thing that's followed her home: Lord Tristram Wolfe, the rightful heir to the Bisterne estate, has vowed to track down his family's stolen jewels - gems he's certain Catherine stole.
Catherine has more to think about than charming, handsome Tristram and his accusations, even if he's beginning to change her mind about never returning to England. Back at her family's Tuxedo Park estate, she resolves to restore her honor by earning the forgiveness of her best friend and protecting her younger sister from other fortune-seeking Englishmen with dubious titles, all while abiding by the etiquette of the Gilded Age.
Yet when Tristram's quest takes a dangerous turn, she must decide whether to follow the rules or save her accuser's life.

    Mystery and Romance
Initially I was concerned that I would not be able to relate to, or even like, Catherine - knowing from the description that she had eloped with her best friend's fiancé. However, as it turns out, it is immediately obvious that "this" Catherine (5 years later) is a much different person - a woman who has been humbled and rejected and hopes to make amends and be able to enter back into the society she spurned. Fortunately her best friend is a kind and forgiving young woman who is secretly in love with someone else. All of this is a bit of a mystery throughout much of the book - on top of the true mystery of who actually stole the family jewels. Tristram believes it is Catherine throughout most of the book, yet in spite of this, he is drawn to Catherine and she to him.
Ultimately this is a sweet romantic mystery; however, due to the mystery itself, there is not as much of the story devoted to the romance and I felt the loss of this. However, it was definitely worth reading and very well written and narrated.
    The Honorable Hair
This is a very well written, fast moving book that I highly recommend to everyone.
    Nice plot. Dull application.
Nice storyline, but it is very slow and there is not much to keep my attention, especially for such a short piece.

    Moving somewhat slow
Narrator was good. Story moved a little too slow for me but it was an enjoyable relaxing book. Just didn't always keep my attention.
LOVE THIS AUTHOR! (LOVE THE NARRATOR TOO)
Such a wonderful series. The main characters become so real and much wisdom is gained in reading this series! It evokes so many emotions as one follows the lives of the characters...Love, joy, sadness, heartache, victory: trust in God carries them through tragedies and each bend in the road of life. I marveled at the strength, courage, perseverance and faith of these immigrant families. A must-read-series! LOVED THIS SERIES AND MANY OTHERS BY THIS AUTHOR!
    great book
Loved hearing Debra's story. The book completed Debra's story but left me wondering how other characters after doing. I would love a story on how Torliff gets rid of his sad eyes and how the new residents of Blessing find their places there.
    Another good story about Blessing
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Laurine Snelling's books bring the era to life. I believe to get the full impact of the town of Blessing and its residents, it's best to read from the beginning of the series. You won't be sorry. As you move through each book, you get to know the characters and care about them.
Who was your favorite character and why?
As the matriarch and initial character, Ingeborg has to be my favorite. The series takes her from a young married woman to an elder in the community. Her wisdom, kindness, and loving nature make her impossible not to like!
Have you listened to any of Stina Nielsens other performances before? How does this one compare?
As always, Stina Nielsen did a great job. You can easily identify the character who is speaking and her voice is very pleasant to a long listen.
    another great story.
loved the continuing saga if this wonderful group of people. I hope Ms.Snelling continues writing.

    Seduced by the Laird
Definitely a 5 star performance once again by Antony Ferguson as he pulls the characters from the book out into our imagination. Eliza Knight never fails to provide us with an awesome adventure filled with romance, suspense, action and unforgettable characters. I'd say this is a must read book as well as a must have audio book! While I love both regular books and audio books, I can get a lot more accomplished listening to an audio and imagining I'm watching the events.

    Beautifully written
A wonderful story of faith and love. The unwavering commitment of the characters to their relationship with God is inspiring.
Narrator really messed this great book up.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I loved the story and that it centered on having a relationship with Christ.
What did you like best about this story?
The entire story was great. I'd enjoy another in the series.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lori J. Smith?
    Not sure.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Maggie refused to accept St John's marriage proposal.
    Any additional comments?
If they wanted an English character, they should have used a narrator that could speak with the English accent.
Enjoyed this book would recommended to a friend.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes I would recommend to a friend. It has a pretty good story line and I enjoy getting lost in a story. It kept going and was very good at taking you to the time and place in history in which it was written.
What did you like best about this story?
How Magi had to chose if she was going to put God first or the man she loved first.
What does Lori J. Smith bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She did a good job on the voices. My favorite was Magodonlina's mother. She made me laugh several times with the way she just brought the character to life. I also believe she did a good job portraying Magi in this story her young innocence.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh several times. Also it took me for a loop when Magi got hurt.
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the first book in the cottonwood series a little more only because there was a little more suspense in the story compared to this one. But it was enjoyable non the less and I look forward to the next book in the series coming out on audio.

At the top it has joined the list of books I will listen to over and over
What was one of the most memorable moments of Trail of Longing?
There were many but when Dean went after Emma when she was taken
What about Dawnya Clarines performance did you like?
She's made the characters come to life
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, there were times I wanted to smack Mrs Sutton and don't get me started on Russ ugh that man would try the patience of a saint
    Emotional wonderful listen
    Any additional comments?
This was a wonderful frustrating read with characters you are going to love and some will not be crazy about. The author gives you a story you really get into as the characters take over you do a lot of cheering and a little cursing. Emma mother drove me crazy with her wishy washy ways along with Russ. I really wanted to reach inside the book and pull them out before they really messed up Emma and Deans life. I do have to say they add a lot of interests to the read as these two do their best to keep them apart. But I am getting ahead of the story.
Ms. Clarine does a wonderful job of narration she really pulls you g, and her female ones are very soft and rich. You have no trouble hearing what emotions each are feeling into the story with her wonderful character voices. Her male voices are smooth, rich and strong or who is talking. There are not any background noises or any places in the audio where the beginning of the chapter the voice is higher or lower than the last chapter. Just a smooth, clean rich listen that really pulls you in. The narrator really puts a lot into the listen you can hear the sadness or excitement in her voice. I enjoyed this story and narration so much I found things I could do so I could listen longer. She really painted the picture in my mind of how things go on a trail ride. She made me understand that Emma really loved her mother and over looked a lot of her nonsense due to the love she has for her. I am not sure I would have gotten this sense if I had read the book. I have not listened to anything by this narrator but am really looking forward to listen to more of her work.
Emma is having a hard time keeping Dr. Dean out of her mind. Oh the things she would love to do to him a lady shouldnt think about.

    Truly Terrible
I couldn't finish . And I always finish. If I had been reading this, I might have rated it 2 stars and finished it. But the audio narration was so truly terrible I could not do it. The reader has one and only one tone and tempo. Every word is a rapid raspy whisper. Whether it's an anguished seduction scene or a description of the guard dog. Totally annoying. Don't bother.
    Good story, poor narration
My husband usually tolerates my audiobooks, but when listening to this one he said "you don't have to use ear buds, but this narrator is really bad." In other words, 'please use ear buds.' The narrator's pacing is fine which makes listening bearable, but her speech pattern (going up at the end of every sentence) and breathy, melodramatic voice are cheesy and annoying.
The story is interesting. I like the us-against-them and second-chance themes. The good twin, evil twin premise is unusual in a historical romance. Good book if you're looking for something a little different without getting too dark. The tone remains very upbeat and never drags.
    Too much inner dialogue!
Wow there was so much inner dialogue going on in this book it was driving me crazy! Talk to each other! It was also a bit repetitive and my least favorite of the series by a mile!.
I liked the characters and the story line. I just didn't like all the serious lack of dialogue between the characters.

    John Thornton won my heart
I listened to the audio book and this story is a must read or listen to. John Thornton, who is travelling to Spain to save his mill, runs into Miss Hale who is also travelling to the same location. She is injured and travelling alone, so Mr. Thornton travels as her brother. We get to know John's mother , Hannah more thoroughly as well as Frederick (Margaret's brother) and his wife. I fell in love with the honorable, honest, strong John Thornton more than ever during this story. It was so well put together. I recommend this to anyone who loves Darcy, yes Darcy, as he is a Darcy in a later age. The narrator Ana Clements did a phenomenal job bringing the characters to life and brought out the nuances of the story with such skill. I highly recommend the audiobook and highly recommend this story to lovers of JAFF and Darcy.
    A Spicy Spanish Adventure
What did you love best about No Such Thing as Luck?
With a voyage, an accident, an exotic location, a villain, a fist-fight, a wedding, a death, a fugitive, the threat of execution, and plenty of steamy make-out sessions, NSTAL makes a fine plot for a blockbuster film. I loved that Margaret and John rediscover each other in locations foreign to them. It's adventurous with a dash of danger. I loved the flamboyant villain, Jiro. Jiros machinations only prove John to be the the brave and selfless knight in shining armour we know he can be, and who doesnt swoon at that? Were also introduced to some new characters on the voyage, and we meet Frederick and his family in Spain. Plus, there's plenty of John and Margaret makeout sessions!
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
There can be too much of a good thing though. For me there was a bit too much kissing too early in the story. Part of the fun is the angst, so I would have preferred a slower burn.Theres also a bit too much plot. There's a lot of action, which can actually be a great thing for most readers, but Im old-school so I prefer to explore a character's inner world a bit more.
What does Ana Clements bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Ana Clements is an accent wizard, seamlessly transitioning from Northern to Southern, Spanish to French. She brought the right touch of tenderness and heat to John and Margaret's more intimate moments. I found her tone and rhythm relaxing. She definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I laughed at several places.

As heir to a title and great wealth, Will Masterson should have stayed home and tended his responsibilities. Instead he went to war. Now, after perilous years fighting the French, he intends his current mission to be his last. But all his plans are forgotten when he arrives in the small mountain stronghold of San Gabriel and meets her.
Knowing herself to be too tall, strong, and unconventional to appeal to a man, Athena Markham has always gloried in her independence. But for the first time in her life, she finds a man who might be her match. Two of a kind, too brave for their own good, Athena and Will vow to do whatever it takes to vanquish San Gabriel's enemies. For neither will back down from death, and only together can they find happiness and a love deeper than any they'd dared imagine.

    Adventure and Romance
A good yarn. Likeable characters, the story moves along at a good pace, interesting location and time period. What's not to like?
The narrator was very good at distinguishing the characters. She is also good at accents and male and female roles. My one very small complaint is her pronunciation of "Joaquin" as "Jo-a-kween." It's not necessary to have read the previous books in the series, but it adds to the fun.
    Not your typical regency
I liked this. It's certainly not your average Regency romance. It's set in a mythical small kingdom between Spain and Portugal following the abdication of Napoleon. I liked the way the book started. It sets up the characters for this series, I believe.
The characters are great. Will and Athena aren't two young kids and they approach their relationship in an adult manner - thought out and practical. The upcoming threat of attack adds to the tension. Maybe too much but it's what sets this book apart. I like the dialogue very much.
I love the narration. Great job by Beverly Crick. I like that characters from the previous series, like Will himself, make appearances. I'm looking forward to the subsequent books in this new series.
Love in the Midst of War
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I highly recommend this book. One of the characteristics I most admire about Mary Jo Putney is her social conscience and how she works compassionate and humanitarian views into all her books without lecturing. In this book, she examines the destructive after-effects of war and social stigma on both society and individuals and the role of hope, friendship and love in overcoming these evils. Beverley A. Crick's interpretation and performance of the story was excellent. I particularly loved her range of tone and accent to define the different characters.
