Decent story. Great Narration!

This was a decent story, not my favorite Maya Rodale book. I am a big Maya Rodale fan too.

I liked Amelia and Alistair together. They made a good couple and there was some good witty banter between the two on their excursions together. They did have some good chemistry together. There was a couple nicely written sex scenes.

The story line and plot was okay. There was no mystery, not too much angst, no villains. It was more about the scandal they caused. Like I said it was a decent story but not a favorite by no means. The dialogue was great, there was lots of it!

As for the narration, Saskia Maarleveld did a great job. I really like her. All the men sound like men, everyone gets a voice and she has a very nice reading voice to listen to.

Sweet Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Mail Order Bride - A Bride for Carlton to be better than the print version?

I truly enjoyed the performance and was able to listen while I worked. For this book, I enjoyed each equally.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Carlton showed up at Myra's home. I enjoyed the description of Carlton through Myra's eyes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Normally I would have probably listened to the whole in one sitting but I started too late in the day.

The story is a sweet and clean tale of Myra finding her love though an advertisement. The story shared the doubts of both the man and woman about their worth as a husband and wife. It has a happy ending and I encourage to take time to read or listen to the story.

Hmm, this story was just underdeveloped. The characters lack any real depth. Now, the narrator did an excellent job, and I would listen to him again. Happy reading!

My main complaint was how short it was and didn't allow much time to connect with the characters.

Overall, the book was a descent read, The book does have a Happy Ending.

Superb, romantic love stories!

When I first saw this book, the cover just really appealed to my tastes and vision of what I would have expected the characters to look like. It's a beautiful cover, and the audio versions has the same lovely cover. I have a tendency to enjoy looking at the cover picture while I'm listening if I'm able to. Once I started listening to the book, I admit I had to drag out my box of tissues. Once I got past the initial laying the groundwork of the story, I was able to put away my tissues and enjoy the story. Actually, you really are getting two for the price of one since Albert as well as his brother had the chance to cross over the threshold of youth, and experience finding true love whether they planned to or not. There are many things I like about this book, but keeping the explicit descriptions of violence and sex really appealed to me. It was present, but written beautifully and not "in your face, graphic descriptions". Brad Wills does his usual excellent job as narrator, changing the voices to fit characters. I do believe that he would be able to make an ancient, old man sound sexy. He really brought Albert into the lime light where he became my favorite character. Mrs. Tisdale never disappoints with her excellent, appealing style of writing, and Brad Wills is always an excellent choice or narrator. I would easily recommend this book to my friends that like romance stories with a twist.

Very interesting For a Pride and Prejudice fan

What did you like best about Her Unforgettable Laugh: A Pride and Prejudice Variation? What did you like least?

I love Pride and Prejudice so, I did really enjoy this book. I have listened to many variations of the story and it was a much more detailed version. I always saw Elizabeth as a bit of a rebellious woman, but this book doesn't really give that impression as I do so enjoy.

What did you like best about this story?

I know that Caroline is supposed to be a sh*t but this much felt a bit heavy. Books need to have an antagonist but I am not sure this extreme would have been to Ms. Austen's approval.

Which character as performed by Nancy Peterson was your favorite?

I would have to say Georgiana was my favorite. I think she really got the sweet and shy young lady. I also loved Darcy's pet name for her.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I sure wood. I am very excited to see where it goes in book 2.

Forgettable

Caroline is very nasty in this version and Wickham is very stupid. I like the fact that darcy is not as arrogant. The narrator was Ok. several times voices were mixed up. I am sure it will get better as the narrator works through the series. This version was a lot different from the last one I listened to. I hate cliffhangers and that was included in this version. I got this ARC via audiobook boom.

I don't want to list any spoilers.

Overall, an entertaining read that I enjoyed and I am interested in the rest of the series.

Nancy Peterson did really well with the narration.

Good one

This was a good one in Pride and Predjudice. It is long, very emotion grabbing, nice dialogue, very era appropriate.

Then again all these are the faults as well. This was so long that it was at times repetitive, forgot it earlier plot (Collins suddenly just dissappeared despite his plans), it grabbed my emotions so much that I grew frustrated at times, the narrator while very good at presenting different characters sometime confused them. It was not fun listening to Lizzy speak and sound like Caroline.

Amazing story. if only, more of those greedy men who were so against Indians had been taken care of.

This could also have been made into a longer story. But this was a well written short story.

A woman on her way west to marry a man she had been writing to fell into a river and was pulled to safety by an Indian who had been near the accident. After reaching the town of the man she had been writing to she found him to be a horrible person with evil ways. The story continues with the Bride refusing to be his bride. A must read for those who enjoy historical western romance kindle books from Amazon at a special price and from a special author who keeps me wondering what next for the characters.

Roma Nettles was thrown from the stagecoach when the driver made a very sharp turn and carriage fell. The driver jumped and saved himself but he did not try to help Roma from drowning. She was rescued by a Sioux Indian they called John. She is on her way to marry Harry Vinson who John describes as a vicious snake who is trying to destroy the Indians for their land and the small RANCHERS who will not sell out to him. This is a very interesting story of hateful greed from humane beings who call the Indian savages, but in the end where it counts, you see men who put their faith in a Sovereign God.

Historical Western Romance

Faith Johnson is a five star writer. I have read a majority of her books. I enjoyed the story and hope you will too!!!!!

Getting worse

This series started strong with interesting characters, somewhat different stories, and tolerable prose. There were a couple of annoying anachronisms (such as "coffee table," which didn't exist in homes until the late 19th century nor was it called such. Instead, a man put his feet up on a footstool."Fainting couches" also didn't exit. They had recamiers, sofas, window seats, and couches.), and vocabulary issues, but for the most part they weren't a problem.

By this book, however, these problems were so commonplace as to clearly demonstrate that Ms. Burrows simply hasn't done her homework. One should never mention or describe furniture from later periods in a Regency novel. Same goes for idioms and throwing in Latin based words in the middle of prosaic Anglo-Saxon conversation or inner thoughts, especially by women (e.g. "mendacious"). This sort of thing may seem trivial, but there are so many good Regency romances out there, the authors of which have clearly studied the period and know the vocabulary, decor, laws, etc. The upper classes also did not use contractions. They were considered vulgar.

One of the most egregious flaws is actually a pivot point of the story and that is legal guardianship of a child by a woman. There was no such thing during the Regency period. Fathers ALWAYS had all the rights over children, bi-blows or legitimate. Woman had none. Even heads of families could take children sired by a member of his family, however distant, away from their mothers.

What absolutely destroyed my interest in further books was Mr. Langton's characterization of Devlin St. Just. Despite the narrative both in this book and in "The Heir" making absolutely clear that Devlin spoke as if he were born to the nobility, Langton insists upon giving him an Irish brogue that sounds more like a Boston dock worker than a child brought up in a noble English family. Even if he sounded Irish when he was 6, by the time he was 16, he would have had a haughty, upper class accent. Even worse, the hero should never have an unpleasant timbre to his voice. All in all, the male voice characterizations are far less appropriate or even well defined as are the women. Pity she didn't keep Roger Hampton as narrator.

I'm also starting to get tired of whiny women with extreme inferiority complexes writing agendas for everyone else.

I will be returning any of Ms Burrows books that I haven't read. It's a pity as the first two novellas were very promising.

A VERY well written and narrated book!

The writing was very good and since I have not read anything by this author before I was Very impressed. The storyline was well put together and all scenes were arranged very appropriately and without all the relentless mind babbleI seen with some other writers. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book especially since I was so hesitant about purchasing a book without any Audible reviews (although there are quite a few Amazon reviews). I feared that the reason behind the storyline was going to end up being silly and stupid and yet it all came together so nicely. I especially loved the change of the sons views on their relationship with their father going from so negative initially to one of respect and understanding at the end. Grace Burrowes took her readers so brilliantly through the ups and downs of storyline and all I can say is that I truly relished it all.

Didn't like the narrator

The make voice trying to sound like the heroine ruined the book for me. I couldnt get past how ridiculous he sounded.

Loved the story but...

The narrator's voice for women was very distracting. He did great with the males but the women sounded like my husband trying to fake a woman's voice.

Great Listen

Although this was Grace Burrowes's debut novel, it was unavailable in audio until now. Narrated like the rest of Grace's titles, James Langton does a fantastic job narrating - all 3 of the Windham brothers are easy to tell apart and the female voices are very well done. Anna Seaton finds herself as housekeeper to Gayle, the Earl of Westhaven during a very hot summer. In hiding with her sister, Anna finds herself wanting to trust Westhaven with her secrets as they start to fall in love. I loved this book in print, and the audio is even better. The thing I love most about Grace Burrowes titles is that there is an emotional depth to her titles that aren't found in many stories these days. It's not just the grand gestures and dramatic moments that make up her romances, but the little things in everyday life that help show the depth of feeling that Anna and Westhaven develop towards each other. Westhaven's brothers are interesting characters in their own right who will see their stories released in audio over the next couple of months. I hope the Windham girls' stories will also be released in audio in the near future. I will be pre-ordering St. Just's story as soon as it is available.

Like a Warm Embrace ;-)

This is the first book by Laura Frantz that Ive read and it most certainly wont me my last. She definitely has the gift of story telling as well as an exceptional gift of writing with emotion. This story is gripping from the beginning and ends with an endearing sense of awe.

The characters are written beautifully and there is a trueness about them. These characters have faults, endure many hardships yet they dont pass judgment on others. Instead, they put their faith in God to help them through any difficulties. The level of forgiveness that is shown in this story is overwhelming and begs us to question our own depth and ability to forgive others.

I dont want to give the story away but this is more than just a romantic clean love story that transcends all boundaries. Its also a tale of family love, friendships, faith, loyalties, and forgiveness. Its heartbreaking yet triumphant..like a warm embrace after a long battle. :-)

I enjoyed the narration. The accents and emotion came through wonderfully.

I highly recommend this to all Christians or people of faith. I will definitely be checking out the authors other books.

Indian Love Story.

What made the experience of listening to Courting Morrow Little the most enjoyable?

The history made it enjoyable for me. But this is a love story between a mixed blood and a white girl. They love each other and want to be together.

What other book might you compare Courting Morrow Little to and why?

I have read many books like this and each one is different in its own way. How the white settlers will not accept the indians or their children.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene that was my favorite was when Morrow was in the cave and Red Shirt almost gets shot.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried when she realizes who Lewis is. It is heart warming.

Needs different narrator

I believe this was a good story but not absolutely sure. It was hard to get a good feel for the characters because of the narration. She probably should consider sticking to more upbeat or kids/young teen books. She might also want to read the book a few times before narrating it. It seemed there were incorrect inflections and 'tone of voice' through the whole book. The only thing worse was when she tried to drop her voice to sound like a man. That was awful.

Story was good. The author should demand a different Narrator. Read the headline. Enough said.

Why does every sentence/comment end sounding like an exclamation?!?!

I couldn't get past the fact that every statement sounded like the H&h were surprised! Story was okay, but next time I see THIS narrator I will opt to READ the book!!!

Great Summer Listen

Would you listen to A Fine Imitation again? Why?

I loved this book. Thought the story was great and the narrator did an excellent job with all the voices. It was relaxing to listen too and not like some others where it seems the narrator practically screams to change voice sounds.

easy listen

easy listening story about the rigid expectations of a young woman in the 1920s... How easily we forget. I think it leaves one being happy to be living today where we have so much more freedom.

I enjoyed this story very much as it was set in old days. And loved the author.

Terrible characterization ruined the story

This started out quite well, and I liked the alternating time frames (1913 and 1923). Unfortunately, the main character, Vera, was not sympathetic IMHO.
