Weak information with poor quality recording
I can't say anything positive about this. You'd probably be better off going with the book "how to argue and win every time" or the book about manipulative people quote in sheep's clothing"
Book like a loaded gun! Small but deadly.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything described in book based on simple and popular psychology models. Even your pet can understand text.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Author use all emotional triggers on readers, to stimulate interest to information.
Typical trick: in chapter 'A' he using triggers described later in chapter 'B'. but in chapter 'B' trigers from chapter 'C' ...amazing!
    Any additional comments?
PS: Short and realistic (!!!) describtion of influence methods. Even with few exercises.

    Publisher's Summary:
You're about to discover how to maintain healthier mental health.
Millions of Americans live with various types of mental illness and mental health problems. Mental illness refers to a wide range of mental health conditions - disorders that affect your mood; thinking, and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addictive behaviors.
Many people have mental health concerns from time to time. But a mental health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect your ability to function. A mental illness can make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life, such as at work or in relationships. In most cases symptoms can be managed with a combination of medications and counseling (psychotherapy).
Mental illness is any disease or condition that influences the way a person thinks, feel, behaves, or relates to others and to his or her surroundings. Although the symptoms of mental illness can range from mild to severe and are different depending on the type of mental illness, a person with an untreated mental illness often is unable to cope with life's daily routines and demands.

    Publisher's Summary:
We all know the autistic genius stereotypes. The absentminded professor with untied shoelaces. The geeky Silicon Valley programmer who writes bulletproof code but can't get a date. But there is another set of (tiny) geniuses whom you would never add to those ranks - child prodigies. We mostly know them as the chatty and charming tykes who liven up daytime TV with violin solos and engaging banter. These kids aren't autistic, and there has never been any kind of scientific connection between autism and prodigy.
    Until now.
Over the course of her career, psychologist Joanne Ruthsatz has quietly assembled the largest-ever research sample of these children. Their accomplishments are epic. One could reproduce radio tunes by ear on a toy guitar at two years old. Another was a 13-year-old cooking sensation. And what Ruthsatz's investigation revealed is nothing short of astonishing. Though the prodigies aren't autistic, many have autistic family members. Each prodigy has an extraordinary memory and a keen eye for detail - well-known but often-overlooked strengths associated with autism.

    Very interesting and informative
Great book for those with a prodigious or autistic family member. The case studies she explains are fascinating.
The narrator has a "grandma voice" that is so comforting. She makes the book become an informative discussion rather than a medical study.

You got the diagnosis. You knew that the other person was "different" or "eccentric" in many ways, but you didn't know why or how. Now you know that you are living with something called obsessive compulsive personality disorder, Asperger syndrome, Asperger's disorder, autism spectrum disorder, schizoid personality disorder, or narcissistic personality disorder.
You might be relieved in many ways. You now can begin to understand why the other person gets frustrated so easily and so quickly. You begin to understand why he or she cannot think in the way that you can think or why he or she seems to be unable to plan out certain things. This person might be hung up on many of the words or sentences that you use. He or she might nitpick the way that you say things. You wonder why this person just can't infer things or read between the lines, like most other people seem to be able to do. You have an explanation for his or her crazy-making and infuriating behaviors.
The person might need an excessive amount of time alone or might prefer to do many activities alone. This person is task oriented and object oriented. He or she rarely listens to your opinion and may ramble on and on about things he or she enjoys. This person never seems to be consistent in thought patterns, moods, morals, and values. He or she is easily defensive and offended. It is difficult to share your own interests in a conversation with people like this, because they are driven to talk only about themselves or things they are interested in. They seem to be in their heads much of the time or might be excessively involved in their hobbies or in their work.

    Ridiculous!
Terribly written to imply that aspy's are prone to violence, there is no evidence to support this clearly biased notion.
    Very negative book. Not recommended
The author ours a very negative light on Aspies. He/She makes them out to be horrible, abusive, dangerous people, even going so far as to say they might "murder someone on accident"!
I would never recommend this book to anybody. I would guess it was written by someone whose significant other was an abusive aspie. So, they biasly generalized their experience onto all Aspies. It's ridiculous and sounds like a teenager throwing a tantrum while trying to argue their side of a losing debate.
I have never met an Aspie who is anything like those the author describes. And none of them have had relationships like the ones in this book.
To sum it up in one word? Ridiculous
    nailed it
Snow understands the dynamics of Aspie couples and the damage to non-Aspie partner. So spot on and validating. wow!

    Publisher's Summary:
Learn About Trauma and Traumatic Disorders in a Fraction of the Time!
Bessel Van der Kolk, MD, is the author of The Body Keeps the Score. In this book, Bessel examines the ways that trauma can affect people and how they can recover from past traumatic events. When a person experiences trauma, it will change the wiring in their brain, and this will cause a change in the way that a person views their life and everyday situations. Trauma has a negative effect on both the body and mind in a way that will prevent a person affected by trauma from enjoying the present moment.
Bessel and his colleagues have been researching trauma and the people affected by it for almost 50 years. This journey began for Dr. Van der Kolk when he met with Vietnam War veterans who were suffering from the trauma they experienced in the war. This trauma caused these veterans to struggle with the transition of coming back home and resuming normal lives. These trauma sufferers all had certain symptoms that they shared. The traumatic events that were experienced at war were constantly being replayed in the brains of the veterans. In addition to this, the veterans appeared to be numb or indifferent to everyday life, and they would become angry very easily.
Dr. Van der Kolk is considered to be the very first doctor to diagnose and recognize post-traumatic stress disorder, which is also known as PTSD. He was also one of the first doctors to identify cures and methods for assisting people who are affected by PTSD so that they can once again live normal lives.

    Too little on treatment
No discussion of EMDR, meditation in contrast with dramatic arts for children - important but inadequate. .
Summary misses many key points of the book
The summary is a simple overview of the first few chapters. It does not address the many useful therapies or solution to deal with Trauma and its resolution. The summary highlights the open and honest approach of the author but defines detailed parts as "confusing" or awkward. The is the second time I have listened to a summary and would not recommend them. I was hoping it would provide a useful summary of a great book to assist me in learning it more deeply. It pales in comparison to the real thing.

As a result I will be buying several hard copies of the book to share with friends and professionals. I agree with the author that trauma is such an important area and people should be given every opportunity to understand and recover from trauma so they can lead lives free from fear, addiction, stress and anxiety. Title: The Oceanic Metaphor

    Publisher: MSAC Philosophy Group
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 7 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Perhaps the study of consciousness has an inherent limitation, similar in import to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics or Gödel's incompleteness theorem in mathematics. Perhaps we are like seasoned travelers on a Mobius strip in quest of the "other" side of the band who after long and arduous circular travels come to realize that no matter what route we take we will always only be touching the same surface.
If this is so, then a specialized version of Niels Bohr's complementarity may be an instructive insight for us as we venture forth: "In any given situation, the use of certain classical concepts excludes the simultaneous meaningful application of other classical concepts."
In the study of consciousness it appears we may have to confront an epistemological complementarity where any objective study (via third person analysis) of qualia must by necessity lose in translation a fundamental feature of the very phenomenon under inspection. Conversely, any purely subjective endeavor to explore consciousness must by its very act forego any attempt to maximally objectify what is experienced, lest the experience itself be lost in attempting to exteriorize that which is de facto interior.

    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 24 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
This Is Your Brain on Sports is the audiobook for sports fans searching for a deeper understanding of the games they watch and the people who play them. Sports Illustrated executive editor and best-selling author L. Jon Wertheim teams up with Tufts psychologist Sam Sommers to take listeners on a wild ride into the inner world of sports. Through the prism of behavioral economics, neuroscience, and psychology, they reveal the hidden influences and surprising cues that inspire and derail us on the field and in the stands - and, by extension, in corporate boardrooms, office settings, and our daily lives.
In this irresistible narrative romp, Wertheim and Sommers usher us from professional football to the NBA to Grand Slam tennis, from the psychology of athletes self-handicapping their performances in the boxing ring or the World Series to an explanation of why even the glimpse of a finish line can lift us beyond ordinary physical limits. They explore why Tom Brady and other starting NFL quarterbacks all seem to look like fashion models; why fans of teams like the Cubs, Mets, and any franchise from Cleveland love rooting for a loser; why the best players make the worst coaches; why hockey goons (and fans) would rather fight at home than on the road; and why the arena T-shirt cannon has something to teach us about human nature.
This Is Your Brain on Sports is an entertaining and thought-provoking journey into how psychology and behavioral science collide with the universe of wins and losses, coaching changes, underdogs, and rivalry games.

    FAN-tastic!
I recommend this book if you A) are even remotely interested in sport(s) and are curious about sports myths/legends, or B) enjoy social psychology and wide applications of studies to the human experience. I fall into both of these categories, thus the 5 stars. Do not let the title fool you. There is a plethora of sports facts and figures, for certain, but equal amounts of study of the business world, education, and media. The most valuable takeaways are that sports fans are just human and that everyone has an inner sports fan. In other words, you can apply the lessons here to many settings. It helps that along with serious data, there is plenty of humor. The narration is 5 stars hands down.
I am not a sports fan...
I am not a sports fan! I'm reading books that will hopefully give me an idea of what makes someone such an avid sports fan. This book is written by a sports fan who doesn't realize his audience may consist of non-sports fans. I listened to the audiobook and there must be a total of 30-minutes of recited stats for various pro athletes. I can't even remember the context but it's like listening to adults talk in a Peanuts television special. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
    Awful
Trying to listen to this book and early on all I get is point ratings on the 'good' looks of quarterbacks. Really? Just a few number and make your point. I have been listening to names and numbers for at least 15 minutes.
This book fails to hold my attention.
I get it symmetry goes hand in hand with our perception of good looks. Must we rate all of the NFL quarterbacks...

Insightful and entertaining, telling fascinating stories about some of the most seductive imposters in history, The Confidence Game takes us into the world of the con to examine not only why we believe in confidence artists but how our sense of truth can be manipulated by those around us.

A helpful guide for unlocking mental blindspots
I recommend this book to everyone.
I loved the book. In particular, the various tales of cons that have been carried out through the ages. It's enlightening to see that many scams have been running for centuries. The exploration of the human shortcomings that support cons and scams is eye-opening and presents something to think about.
The narrator was good. The tone and flow of the narration is consistent with whatever concept is being presented.
Great book for anyone who wants to understand con
Great story for self realisation! A bit on a scary side. grear examples mixed with science behind the confidense game.
    Book of anecdotes about con-artists
This is nothing more and nothing less than a book with anecdotes about con-artists. There is some discussion of the psychological mechanisms underlying the tricks, but the discussion and critical analysis is light.

    Narrator: Claire Duncan
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-25-15
    Publisher: JB Snow Publishing
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 8 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
There are many people whose brains are considered to be "wired" differently. They think in different patterns and have different wants and needs from other people who are considered to have neurotypical brain thoughts and patterns. The different "brain wiring" has been classified as autistic spectrum disorder, schizotypal and schizoid disorders, and Asperger's syndrome.
This audiobook seeks to identify how people with schizoid personality disorder and Asperger's syndrome may process or think differently from others. The concepts can be also used and considered in those who have personality disorders such as OCPD. It seeks to bridge the gap between the behaviors that are different between neurotypicals and those on the spectrums. It seeks to draw out the patterns and to define the reasons that both sides struggle to understand and meet each other's needs.
I hope that this book will help those from both thinking patterns to better understand one another. I am writing this book as a neurotypical wife of a man on the spectrum and a mother of children with special needs. As an author, wellness coach, and mentor, I have learned through many experiences how to try to see the world through many other perspectives.
I have tried to write this book in a way that is friendly and direct for those who are on the spectrum, but please feel free to write to me at [email protected] in order to clarify something if it is not written in a way that you are able to understand. The best thing that we can all do is seek to better understand each other if we are able to. It provides for improved relationships overall.
The first thing that I want to mention is that while this book is for schizoids, OCPDers, and those on the autism spectrum (Asperger's), I realize that there are minor differences in how schizoids think and process things as compared to how those with Asperger's may think.
