King James and Buzz

SHOOTING STARS is the story of LeBron James and his four boyhood friends in Aaron growing in friendship and basketball on their way to three Ohio championships and one national championship. The title is taken from the junior AAU team that first brought them to the attention of the basketball world. What is admirable about the book is the steadfastness of the players and their determination to win. Also, LeBron's elevation of his friends and coaches to major parts in the narrative speaks well of his lasting affection for them.

What is lacking in the book in what was undoubtedly apparent on the court--chemistry. Buzz Bissinger is a great writer. I love his books. But, Bissinger also has an unique writing style, and trying to merge Lebron's oral style into Bissinger's prose is a failure.

You Can't Help But Love This Guy

Having grown up in the '50s and '60s with baseball-fanatic brothers and father, I was more than familiar with the great names of baseball of the time. To get to hear Yogi talk about himself, his game, his baseball associates and his famous quotes was just delightful.

Thanks to the 92Y project! I love hearing these famous people discuss their lives, even if some of them are less than articulate. Because of their great moderators, they end up sounding good, and always interesting.

a wonderfully written and narrates book with a creative style of chronicling one of my favorite television shows. I enjoyed it very much.

What did you like best about Warped Factors? What did you like least?

Mr. Koenig does a good job presenting his story. It had some twist and turns that gave me an insight on his true self. I was a little disappointed in the story itself. As a long time fan in was a bit surreal to hear that it was just another job. I understand that, but it didn't make any more fun to read.

Enjoyed it immensely

There were parts that were touching and parts that I laughed so hard I almost cried.

Pretty good..

The only question I have about Charles and Diana is why is it that it was accepted practice for a future British Crown to carry on before, during and after marriage, and even before his divorce was finial, to carry on an extra- marital affair and not have to account for his actions to the Queen. She was criticized, he never was chastised by the Crown for his actions. A disgrace if you ask me. It seemed his actions were okay..hers were not. I have no regard for the Prince of Wales, and I have read many books on his life, which seems to dilute his personal actions and doesn't hold him accountable for his behavior.

After one gets through the beginning pages of this book, the unfolding events are quite heart wrentching.

A bit outdated in 2015 but it has a useful outlook on what was going on at that time

Unfortunately, this is very dated as it was written in 1993. But he had been a friend to Diana and was helpful in dispelling the propaganda of folks like Nickolas Soames who trashed Diana as a mentally ill total maniac. While the Prince and Princess were not getting along, it was a very vicious thing to say. Diana may have been upstaging the Prince to get back at him for wounding her, but she did not accuse him of being crazy.

I love any information that I can obtain on Diana. I know the press was abhorred by her, but I hope she knew before she died that she was loved by the people. He husband had missed the mark but she was loved by all. James Whitaker had several private comversations with her that may not have ever been published if she had lived.

The Most Interesting Man in the World?

Lover. Cheat. Card sharp. Con artist. Prisoner. Actor. Politician. Military officer (with faked credentials). Freemason. Scapegoat. Astrologer. The most infamous womanizer to have ever lived. All of these labels and more have been used to describe Casanova.

Towards the end of his rather incredible life, Casanova wrote an equally incredible and voluminous memoir that has gone down in the annals of legend. This audiobook is essentially an expanded synopsis of that memoir. It offers very little outside of that tome in terms of research, but there is some clarification of certain points that I found useful. And to be fair, most Casanova scholars see little need to go beyond that memoir simply on account.

To that end, I got exactly what I expected and hoped for, which is to say I got the basic story and some great anecdotes of this character. I've decided I most definitely want to read his memoir for myself.

Great history

Must reading for any one who wants to know the true story of the Kennedys and how they got their millions.

Ethically challenged, financially brilliant

The Kennedy that emerges in this book is a brilliant businessman and a charismatic figure who had the foresight to invent new ways of structuring companies to maximize profits for himself, although in a classic case of shutting the barn door after the horses have escaped, many of these methods were later regulated out of existence, due perhaps in part to the wreckage that he left behind. Beauchamp points out that to Kennedy's way of thinking, this kind of wreckage was not his problem: if Gloria Swanson or others who trusted him did not look out for themselves, that was their fault for being too naive. The women left in the wake of his serial and incessant womanizing (as described here) were similarly at fault, in his mind, if they didn't manage to escape the charm offensive (and occasionally hands-on groping) that he continued to engage in throughout his life.

Lest this sound too negative, Beauchamp stresses Kennedy's love for his children despite absences from home that seem from this book to stretch for months at a time. Kennedy had charm, energy, intelligence, and charisma, and he could read a balance sheet like nobody's business. Ethics in business seems to have eluded him as a concept, but he had a powerful grasp of the idea of public relations. Although he used these in damaging ways (as during his isolationism in WWII), he's still a fascinating figure to read about.

A New Look

A new look into one of America's most interesting families. Worth the listen. Highly recommend.
