Delightfully Surprising!

4.5 AudiobookThree things drew me to The Ex Lottery: 1) The cover. This looks like the cover of a NYT Bestseller. 2) The narrator. Eva Kaminsky is ahh-mazing, but Ill tell you more about that later. 3) The premise. This was the biggest draw. Kim Sanders has thought up an entirely original basis for a story. It was one that I couldnt resist, even though Im not typically that fond of the romance genre.

The Ex Lottery wound up being just the lighthearted adventure that I needed after all of the spook-tacular audios I heard in October. The story was definitely fun, but it wasnt shallow. It had real substance. I was surprised to find such a well-woven plot underneath all of the fun.

One of my biggest complaints with Romance, and with all genres, is predictability. Sanders cleverness extended beyond the basic premise of the story. As someone who listens to a lots of stories, I love being surprised. Alas, it is becoming harder and harder to surprise me. However, Sanders was able to catch me offguard several times with unexpected, but welcomed, plot twists. With true skill, she was able to tie each of these seemingly random twists into the larger story, leaving no loose ends.

Many authors are capable of developing ideas clever enough to serve as the foundation of a good story, but far fewer are able to execute those ideas and follow them up with a story of worth. I cant tell you how many times Ive read a promising synopsis, only to be let down by the plot execution, character development, quality of writing, or all of the above. The Ex Lottery was well written, narrated, and produced.

The Ex Lottery did not disappoint me in any respect. It made me laugh, made me swoon, and kept me guessing. If only all Contemporary Romance novels were written with as much ingenuity and heart as The Ex Lottery, I might become a regular romance listener. At the very least, Im interested in hearing more from Kim Sanders.

Narration review: Eva Kaminsky was a huge part of why I decided to listen to The Ex Lottery. I hadnt heard her before, but Id heard of her enough to know that this would be worth a listen. And it sure was! Kaminsky added so much to the telling of this story. She was perfectly tuned into the characters personalities and the overall tone of the tale.

THEIR ROAD HAS BEEN PERILOUS AND PAINFUL

..... but their destination was definitely worth all the heartache.

Well I could list 100 reasons why I loved this trilogy.. or 100 reasons why I love Lara Adrians books.. but Ill save time and just say this was a gripping and compelling conclusion to Dominic and Averys whirlwind journey. And, in this third part of the trilogy, its a year after their heartbreaking breakup and Dominic feels hes given Avery enough time to heal after the blow that tore them apart. Their attraction to each other and physical pull towards one another has never been in doubt.. nor the love that shines through.. but will it be enough to mend a broken heart? And will it be enough to bring those final walls of Dominics down to reveal the last of his shocking secrets?

Every bit as enjoyable as books 1 and 2 and this has been a bitter-sweet journey of revelations and character growth as both the damaged hero and heroine had their fair share of secrets stopping them from ever getting their HEA. But thankfully in the end love conquered, love overcame and love prevailed. It had sex and romance, ups and downs, heartache and sorrow, passion and pain, ugly memories and ghosts of the past to confront. I have enjoyed the previous two books. I would recommend it if it was narrated by anyone else. Alexander ruined it for me.

NOT FOR ME

Sexually explicit, not for me.

3.5 stars..Steaminess at times took center stage...

What you get here, my fellow romance book loving friends, is a quick, at times very graphically smexy read featuring a main couple that tied the marital knot impulsively after meeting on a two week tropical cruise. The storyline picks up six months later with Grant, the handsome/rich/determined hero, in hot pursuit of Hannah ready to hand over his heart, if sheâll only give him a chance to prove he truly is husband material. You see, Hannah is the only woman heâs ever met that sees beneath his surface and truly gets who he is. Problem is she up and left him high and dry when the ship docked, and it has taken him this long just to track her down.

Iâm not sure where the title comes from, folks, because there wasnât any physical danger, so donât be thinking this is a nail biting, cloak and dagger type read. It is mostly relationship angst with lots of explicit steamy scenes, at times in public places and involving food, with Grant getting to know his girl in her small town home setting.

If you like to see a romantic at heart, good guy pursue and get his woman back, youâll likely enjoy this book. But, again, brace yourself for the steaminess at times steals the show. However, you do get to know this couple as the not so secret big secret is revealed, and more than one grand gesture is made that puts the money where the mouth is and their hearts on the line, as well.

Boring and Confusing

Oh boy... I hate doing this. But I think I'm done with the Misadventures series. I didn't like the first book in the series. Read/listened to a few other books by other authors to clean my pallet and consume something I liked. Came back and listened to this one on Audible.

Boy was this not something I can recommend. Without giving the plot away, I listened to over 6 hours of this book, only for it to end with nothing being accomplished. I don't know why Reece was targeted by the Consortium. We don't really know what was done to him, or if he is the only success up to this point. He says at one point, that he is afraid that the Consortium will come and put him in the room to do more experimenting on him, but this guy has powers now. Other than the shield or whatever it was that Angelique used to get the better of him, HE HAS POWERS! Not everyone is going to be able to keep him down. It just made no sense.

And if you are trying to keep your woman alive and safe, why would you do what he did? I just don't understand this book. There are so many questions/holes left open. He never explained why he was in LA. I didn't understand the faking where he was for 6 months. Was that done by the Consortium.

I just can't anymore... I greatly respect all authors for putting themselves out there. I just think that the formula, or whatever it is they are doing for this series, isn't the greatest. But I'm just one person and as I always say... take my opinion with a grain of salt. It means nothing in the grand scheme of things. It's just how I feel and I won't be venturing into any more of this series.

I also didn't really enjoy the male narrator. He would speak very strangely sometimes. So odd.

Good fun read if you like super heroes

The story itself was good, the audio - just mediocre. Ava did good job bringing high and low emotion to the story but I felt the male was a bit flat in delivery.

Meh.

Its a shame that they didnt get someone else to read the male POV, the woman who does the female lead was great. The male is stilted, boring and ill suited to the role. I couldnt finish listening because he drove me bonkers. Its a shame because I would have liked it a lot if the casting had of been better.

I love a second chance romance. This book has a lot of emotional stuff going on and is actually very sad until the end! Wade & Elliot both have some issues for sure but in the end I was cheering for Elliot and her finally standing up for herself. I have to say she was kind of a doormat through parts of this book which I didn't really understand. The relationship everyone has with Wade's dad was beautiful, I wish we could have gotten to know him more. Another great Staci Hart book IMHO.

The Narration was great. Both of them were cast very well and really became their characters. Lance Greenfield really impressed me in this one because I've listened to him many many times and this is the first time I forgot it was him narrating while I was listening. Usually I always associate him with another book's characters no matter what book i'm listening to and this time he was Wade!

Entertaining, but...

This was a fairly enjoyable story except for the fact that the heroine was the type I have trouble stomaching- a real doormat. She lets everyone walk all over her and treat her terribly while she smiles placidly. The backstory of her and the heros past relationship didnt endear him to me at first either, as he seemed so selfish and clueless to what he was asking from a 17 year old girl. I did appreciate parts of the story about her friendships with Rick and Sophie. Narration was fairly well done. I guess I just like more backbone in my heroines and more sense in my Heroes!

Just as good as reading the book!

The audio is as gut wrenching and heartfelt as reading the book. Loved! So much emotion!

Boring

Needs some character development. There was not any build up of Wade. Wade was not a very likeable character. The narrator read like he was whispering the entire book. Boring.

Elliot was a sweet character but also boring. Wade never really said anything substantial, constantly pining for Elliot and his unbearable love for her. Waste of my audible credit

Why aren't all of this series with narration

I have enjoy the characters and have looked forward to the next book. But when there is no narration I don't buy as I now have trouble with reading.

LOVE MUST READ !!

This was an amazing book. It was a well written, compelling story that grabs the readers attention right from the start. It had so much heat it made me sweat. There was plenty of steam as well. There was love and angst as well. I love the writings of this author and read everything that I can get my hands on. I gave this book five stars and would recommend it to anyone.

Love That Lund Men Love Strong Women

I am really enjoying this series about the Lund family, stories with an interesting mix of family drama, friendship and mature non-violent romance.

Thankfully Jensen Lund was a confident, secure man who liked strong, independent women - no alpha jerks or boring wimps allowed. Single mom Rowan was struggling to juggle work and family commitments but she wasn't passively waiting for a man to rescue her.

As always, my favorite character was Jensen's outspoken mother who devoted her time and money to charitable projects when she wasn't encouraging her grown children to make the most of their lives.

Thank you Ms. James for creating a series featuring a rich family that values giving to others more than conspicuous consumption; successful men who admire strong women, and independent women who don't take shit from anyone.

Really enjoyed!

This series about the Hawks MC, an Australian biker club is really entertaining. In this story, we have the heroine, Clary, who is blind and living with her sister who treats her poorly and abuses her verbally all the time. Unfortunately, shes dependent on her sister for a place to live since the fire that killed their parents and caused her blindness. Our hero, Blue, is a member of the MC who has seen Clary at a local coffee shop and tries to get to know her even though hes not looking for a real relationship. The way their story progresses shows us the side of the evil sister and about unconditional love. Narration is well performed.

HEA and Blue Skies

Blue finally finds his good woman in Clary, but she is threatened by unseen foes due to her blindness. Again, HEA wrapped up in an MC ribbon.

Narration decently done with an Aussie accent.

Recommend for a lovely time out.

Don't read the bad reviews!!!!

What did you love best about Sex Symbol?

First and foremost, what I loved about Sex Symbol most was that the bad reviews were wrong. If you have read the reviews that Maddy cries to much that is just not true. I read those reviews and chose to listen anyway. I am so glad I did. Second, I kept waiting for all this horrible weepiness to occur and the first tears were not shed until the last part of the book. How someone could interpret that as crying all the time, I have no idea.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sex Symbol?

One of the most memorable moments of Sex Symbol for me was when they put the Awards Show on mute -- I seriously yelled out load Noooooooo!!!

What does Andi Arndt bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Andi Arndt is one of the most talented narrators I have ever listened to. She brings depth and a level of emotion that far outweighs my own imagination. I have always loved listening to her and have often chosen books because she is the narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did not have an overly emotional reaction to this book in any one way or another. I did really enjoy listening to this book and thought that the story line was great. I would also consider listening to this book more than once. It did exactly what I wanted it to do, and that was to put me in the fictional land of HEA.

Any additional comments?

A great easy love story that is not filled with lots of angst. Love that.

Could not finish

This is the first time I write a review ever. I could not get over how weak the heroine was. She forgave everything the Hero jerk did!!!

I enjoyed this book a lot. But it could have been better with a male narrator doing the male parts. andi arndt is a top notch narrator and does an excellent male voice during dialog. But it just gets confusing differentiating which character's pov it is. so I gave the performance 4 stars because of that.

great hero. the heroine sis annoy me a bit at times. ( she seemed to cry a lot lol). But she was a strong character and stood hee ground with the hero which I appreciated.

if recommend this book. it's a fun light hearted listen.

Loved it!

Whoa, this book was one of the better celebrity romances I've read that features an actor. That about it I loved, especially since I never fully connect to rock star tropes that much. Anyways this had a lot of steamy sex scenes that had me anxious for the next one. I loved how Micah let love win and they got their HEA.
