Publisher's Summary:
Elementary school principal Adrienne Claireborne is used to giving orders, not taking them. She is ready for a relaxing summer, but first she has to deal with the overbearing Chance Breaux. He is obsessed with gaining control of River Oaks, a house she recently inherited. Not used to people telling him no, Chance sets out to make Adrienne change her mind about not only selling him the property, but allowing him to be a bigger part of her life. He figures she needs someone like him to take care of her, since she doesn't always do so, in his estimation.
Things only get more complicated when Cherice, the ghost of a little girl, encourages Adrienne to put herself in danger and help the child track down her long-lost mother. The ghost of Stanislaus Hymel, the former owner of River Oaks, is sure Adrienne is hiding his daughter from him. Chance soon has his hands full trying to protect a stubborn Adrienne, fight off more than one ghost and gain control of River Oaks. He is determined to succeed, even if Adrienne has to give up sitting comfortably in the process.
Can Chance protect Adrienne when the past reaches out to steal her away?
Members Reviews:
THE GHOSTS OF RIVER OAKS
The plot of this story is full of mystery, suspense, decades of family issues and the ghost haunting River Oaks. Three souls lost one fateful night, a riverboat captain, a young mother and her daughter. One grieving man can accept his wife left him for her lover, but the loss of his beloved daughter haunts him to his death.
Nearly seventy-five years later, a niece of the late Wynona, Adrienne Claireborne has inherited River Oaks and all the surrounding land, but Chance Breaux is determined to own the property, and he wants Adrienne too.
There is plenty of angst between Adrienne and Chance, but then sometimes that is a precursor to passion. Their chemistry includes a love-hate relationship, to begin with, but escalates to a physical and emotional bond. The closer they become, the more agitated Cherice becomes. What happens when the ghost of Cherice can communicate with Adrienne, but no one else can see or hear her? Throw in Madame Lenore, who also wants the property and is keeping her own secrets. Is everyone trying to use Adrienne to get what they want?
The story has a great cast of characters, even if some of them are ghost, some have ulterior motives, and some are along for the ride. Will Adrienne and Chance find a happily ever after ending even when the property gets in their way?
Not in the blurb, but it should have this disclaimer warning. "This book contains elements of spanking of adult women and sexual scenes. If any of these themes offend you, please do not purchase."
Five Stars
Chance has been after Adrienne, the principle of the parish school, to sell him her inherited land. As he gets to know her more it becomes clear that he wants her even more than her land, but keeping her safe is a full time job, which requires a lot of painful times face down, across Chance's knee for Adrienne. The land is haunted by the ghost of Cherice, abandoned by her mother Wynona, 70 years earlier. She has yet to find her way to the other side and her father's ghost is trying to find her and take her there. Then there is Lenore, a gifted psychic, who has the clues to the puzzle and spends most of the book putting them all together to get everyone to where they need to be.
