    Fantastic!
Lynn Redgrave is fantastic! I got this for my classroom children and ended up truly enjoying it for myself. Redgrave brings so much to the story by giving each character their own voice. Several months ago, my students listened while I read The Doll People, but really enjoyed this audio sequel (which saves my voice). I highly recommend this to teachers, parents, and young readers.
My six year old has listened to book one and two and enjoyed them both very much. Every little girl likes to imagine that dolls come to life.

And their only clue is a mysterious message delivered by a strange girl with artificial wings: "The Crusade has begun". Worse, they discover that all of the legendary Dragonships have disappeared as well.
The only chance they have to save the world from a centuries-old plot is to seek out the last of the Dragonships, the Red Dragon, in a spectacular journey that takes them from Sir James Barrie's Kensington Gardens to the Underworld of the Greek Titans of myth. There's only one person Sam can turn to: his hero, skating legend Tony Hawk. Sam believes the answers to life's hurdles can be found in Hawk's autobiography. But even Tony Hawk isn't offering answers this time - or is he?
In this wonderfully witty, poignant story about a teenage boy unexpectedly thrust into fatherhood, it's up to Sam to make the right decisions so the bad things that could happen, well, don't.
    Critic Reviews:
"An accomplished teen novel....a vertiginous mix of anger, confusion, insight, humor, and love." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    Slam Dunk! Great read!
Sam is an ordinary 16 year old from a broken home. He is a likable kid, and he tries to do the right thing. Sam likes to skateboard, and his hero is Tony Hawk. Sam has practically memorized Tony Hawk's autobiography and the Tony Hawk poster on Sam's wall talks to Sam and gives him advice.
The narrator is very convincing; and why not? Its Nicholas Hoult, the kid who played Marcus in About a Boy. His narration really pulls you in and makes you BELIEVE that Sam is actually talking to you.
You really see Sam's inner life; Sam is neither too dense nor too insightful. The tone is very good. Others look at this book as a young adult book, but I don't see it as that; the character study was great, and I could hardly put it down.
Thumbs up for Hornby for Teens
I've listened to Hornby's adult titles and was thrilled to see this young adult audiobook by him. We listened to it as a family with our tween boys and thought the best of Hornby came shining through. The narrator's pace was just right as well. The boys loved it!
    Teen schmeen, 5 stars!
Teen schmeen; I'm 3 times the narrator's age, and I thought "Slam" was just as good as any of Nick Hornby's other books. The actor who narrated was excellent. The thoughts of Sam, the book's teenage first-person narrator, seemed very true to the way an actual teenage boy would see things. Even so, the book had many surprises and I wanted to know how it would all turn out! Never treacly, quite funny, subtle.
    Hurrah
One of the best audiobooks I've heard - well written with great charactorization and humor and well read. I wonder why we can't hear Hornby's first three in unabridged format. What a waste an abridgement would be.
Excellent new Hornby novel, very different
I have been a fan of Nick Hornby ever since reading "High Fidelity" more than ten years ago. The short description of "Slam" did not really appeal to me, but I decided to purchase and download the audiobook anyway, and was very happy to be proven wrong! "Slam" is well written and very well narrated. It really sounds like you are listening to Sam telling his story, which has a lot of twists, has good humor and sarcasm, and is very moving. Definitely recommended!

    fairly good
Would you try another book written by Jacqueline Wilson or narrated by Finty Williams?
I love Jacqueline Wilson and if your also a fan of hers than I suggest reading/listening to it, if you don't enjoy her so much than I would choose something else, it was read pretty well. They did voices, which is a bonus.
If youve listened to books by Jacqueline Wilson before, how does this one compare?
Jacqueline Wilson's other books are a lot better, definitely try another if you enjoy, or like the look of this, and if you don't try another one of hers their great.
Could you see Love Lessons being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
I can't see it being made into a successful one because it is for children 10 and above and I don't see people finding it that interesting.
    Mixed Feelings
I listened to this story with my teenage daughter who is a long standing Jacqueline Wilson fan. The narration by Finty Williams is excellent and allowed the story to be a pleasurable listening experience for both of us. Love Lessons is a typical Jacqueline Wilson novel in that it deals with difficult life situations and emotions from a young person's viewpoint. Whereas this is commendable, neither of us enjoyed or appreciated the way in which the plot developed in this particular story. The gritty realism of a schoolgirl crush sadly descended into silly fantasy with the reciprocal feelings and behaviour of the teacher. I have mixed feelings about this title - overall it is very good but with a silly and disappointing ending.
    Love lessons
Love lessons in an amazing book it makes you have so much empathy for Prudence. The only thing is it could of gone longer like Prudence and TOBY could have fallen in love with each other I don't know.
    Good but..
I think it is good but the story can sometimes be uncomfortable to listen to, but my sister loves it.
I think this book is probably for young adults and teens, as it contains a bit of mature content.
Overall it is not bad .

    Critic Reviews:
"Marsden has the rare skill of making his audience feel that they are part of the story and vicariously another character. Ellie speaks directly to them and in their language". (The Age)
    Members Reviews:
    Don't want a cure
The ongoing struggle and story of Ellie, the rebel child soldier with a will to survive and heart of gold. Ellie is growing up and still trying hard to keep her farm, keep her sanity and remember what it means to be human and happy. Ellie's story is one of strength and intelligence, of loss and pain, of wondering why horrible things happen to innocent people... Looking forward to listening as Ellie's story continues.
The book was great, the performance was not!
The book was great! I cant wait for the next one. I will say that the change of narrator was not a good choice. Though Mikaela Martinay be a good narrator, she did not do Ellie any justice, nor any of the other characters. Ellie is a strong heroic teenager but in the narration of she sounder like a whining, scared wimp. And a nag. I would like to hear Susi Daugherty read it and the next!
    New narrator?!
A little while into the book and you get use to the new chick but Suzi does the accents and tones and feelings so much more in depth and better, still a great story though & it only took 2 chapters to get used to her voice.
Different narrater to entire series - not happy
Why on earth would you change narrater after the entire series with Suzi Dougherty. Mikaela Martin cant do different voices or accents. It ruined the book for me. I now wish I hadnt started the Elle series and just finished with the war begins tomorrow series.
The story is interesting but really disappointed with narration.
The war is over, the battle has just begun.
What did you love best about Incurable?
The transition from farming to warfare.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Elle, because she has to save her friends and take care of her little brother who is still suffering from the terrible experiences of the war.
What does Mikaela Martin bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She has a lovely voice and accent.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I broke it up over many long drives.
    Any additional comments?
I love the story. The descriptions of the Australia Bush. The Idea that young people can fight and prevail.

Listen before you see the next movie
Growing up I was a huge fan of these books. My love for them has recently been rekindled with the movie release of "tomorrow when the war began". Whilst the movie did do the books justice (well filmed and acted) it understandably had to leave alot out. For this reason I decided it was time to re-read (or in this case listen) to the series. They are just as good as I remember! What is more enjoyable however, is watching my partner's responses as he listens. He had never read the books growing up, so is very excited and surprised by all the twists and turns that occur (he even got a bit teary at one point). The only issue is he became so involved in the book that he wanted to listen as often as possible, this means we finished it in only two days. I am now making him wait until I buy the next one (don't know how long I can hold out though). A very good listen and I would reccomend it to teens and adults alike.
    Excellent series
    Any additional comments?
Great characters, strong unique plot, and well written. Adults will enjoy this series as much as teens.
Totally wrapped up in the story
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. The story is riveting. You just can't stop listening.
    Any additional comments?
I think the way Marsden fuels the conflict within the group and the tension of their challenges make for masterful story telling.
    Great Book
This series is great. Highly recommend.
    Loved the first book
The storyline in this second book of the series was thin compared to the first book. The characters (other than the narrator) are too incidental. I realize that it is told from the narrator's perspective but either she is very self absorbed or the other members of her group are terribly dull. I will listen to the next book because I like the premise of this series but if it is as numbing as this one, I am done. The books could be a bit longer and perhaps this would help. But that would reduce revenues.

    Great for the whole family!
Our family listens to audiobooks while on road trips. It is challenging to find books the whole family can listen to. (there are no "ratings" on book/audiobooks - something I would like to see) Anyways, we all loved this book: 12yo,17yo,#2 48yos. Scott Brick is excellent as a reader with just the right amount of sarcism. The book is very funny and the plot entertaining. It was fun figuring out the companies that were being referred to and the facts presented were interesting.
    Totally Cool
So Yesterday is so different from all of the books I've ever read that it's great. It's totally new! Hunter is a 17-year-old 'cool hunter', a person who looks for new things in 'cool' to sell to the big corporations. One of the best things in this book is that there's no product placement, with the exception of Google, and the author lets you know what he's talking about by describing the product in a way that anyone with any knowledge at all of popular culture will recognize. Also, he integrates interesting facts into the book without making it boring or drawn out, and they all have some relivence to the plot. I listened to this book twice, and on the second time I still couldn't put it down. You feel that you really know the characters by the end. Even though the plot has a lot of strange events, it'd hard to remember that someone made it up!
    Excellent
This book is extremely well suited to audibooks with its first-person story telling, side notes, and sarcasm. Whiles the reader's voice is a bit too mature for the teenage character, it is a well-paced voice that is easy to listen to. This book was a good choice for a roadtrip with my fashionista friend.
What a surprise. This was great.
What made the experience of listening to So Yesterday the most enjoyable?
After reading the Uglies series, I thought I might give this one a try. It was well paced, fun, and thought provoking. If u are on the fence, give this book a listen.
Fairly current. Nice to listen to with a teenager
Would you listen to So Yesterday again? Why?
It was enjoyable but I wouldn't listen again.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. In fact, we had long periods between car trips when we did not listen and everyone was fine with just waiting.
