Love brings Kezi the will to fight her fate. Love gives Olus the strength to confront his fears. She questions her faith and seeks truth in dark places. He suffers a godi??i??i??s trial when she needs a champion.
Together - and apart - they encounter spiders with webs of iron, the cruel lord of the land of the dead, the mysterious god of destiny, and the tests of the Akkan gods. If they succeed, they will be together; but if they fail, Olus will have to endure the ultimate loss, and Kezi will have to make the supreme sacrifice.
    Editorial Reviews:
Over the opening strains of Debussys Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Jenna Lamias sly, high voice cites a passage from the Book of Judges. Soon, Oliver Wymans solid, young voice intones the settling of dusk over ancient Mesopotamia. The listener is in for a romantic journey to the long-ago. Written for young adults by Gail Carson Levine - known primarily for her Princess Tales - Ever is the story of Kezi, a mortal, and her love for Olus, the Akkan god of the winds. The pleasant voices of Lamia and Wyman will carry listeners through love, religious conviction, ancient crafts, and plenty of action.

    Boring
    What disappointed you about Ever?
It was very difficult to follow. The story itself is lame.
Would you ever listen to anything by Gail Carson Levine again?
I love her stories. This one was lame.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jenna Lamia and Oliver Wyman s performances?
    No, thanks.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    Not really
    The ending
Maybe there's more? I thought there would be more resolve. I did like the concept of the story but I didn't like the lack of explanation of why things were the way they were.
    8/10 would recommend
The book itself is great, as much as I remember, but the performances are unsteady.
    Uninteresting
I could not get into this book. I tried at least three times to listen to it and could not.

    Publisher's Summary:
Mafatu's name means Stout Heart, but the people of Hikueru call him a coward. He fears the sea and the powerful Sea God Moana because years ago, the powerful tides killed his mother. Such fear is shameful on this island, where the seafaring people revere bravery. But it is especially humiliating for Mafatu, whose father reigns as Great Chief of Hikueru. One day, young Mafatu can no longer stand the jeers and taunts of the braver boys. With his faithful dog, Uri, he steals an outrigger canoe and paddles into the Polynesian sea to conquer his fear. But what awaits Mafatu beyond Hikueru's sunny horizon is more than just courage. It is a dangerous passage that will shipwreck him on an island covered with forbidden idols, cross the path of a tribe of cannibals, and finally strip away his boyhood fears to make him a man. Told with openhearted simplicity, this Newbery Award-winning tale of coming-of-age in early Polynesia possesses a vivid appeal as wide and enduring as the ocean itself.

    A Childhood Treasure
I listened to this story on a vinyl 45 as a child, so I was very excited to see it on Audible as an adult!
Then, I focused on the drama and excitement as Mufato killed the shark. Now, I payed paid attention to the lessons in the story...and the excitement.
At first, I thought George Guidall was the wrong sort to narrate this story - his voice didn't seem very dashing - but the longer I listened, the more I enjoyed it.
    To confusing
I'm in 5th grade and dislike this book. I found it too confusing and it made no sense whatsoever.
    when it works it's great
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
half the time, it says buffering forever and then it says can not connect to server. Sometimes it works, and when it does it's fine.

    Title: Brooklyn Bridge
    Author: Karen Hesse
    Narrator: Fred Berman

Length: 4 hrs and 43 mins

    Release date: 12-31-08
    Publisher: Macmillan Audio

    Publisher's Summary:
All the while no one let him forget that he was lucky. Because - "There are other children. The unwanted, the forgotten, the lost ones. They gather under the bridge each night to sit, to talk, to sleep. They know, they know, they know that to everyone beyond the bridge they are invisible. . . ." These are the children who live under the bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge.
Newbery medalist Karen Hesse masterfully entwines Joseph's coming-of-age tale (and that of his big, colorful family) with the heartbreaking stories of the children under the bridge. Riveting historical fiction that is by turns accessible and ornate, very real but with a touch of magical realism. Hesse's extraordinary new work is an insightful reminder that a life - fragile and precious - can change in a moment.

Teddy Bears and poor children living under...
...Brooklyn Bridge. Karen Hesse is a highly regarded author of books for children and teens. This one is intended for near teens and very early teens. Brooklyn Bridger was released in 2008 and is set in 1903. The protagonist is 14 year old Joseph Michtom whose parents had recently invented the Teddy Bear which was a commercial success from day one. The story is told in the first person of Joseph.
Ultimately Brooklyn Bridge is about Joseph's maturation process as he is surrounded by loving parents, younger siblings, and a large extended immigrant family. It is a nice story but it is not as good as many wonderful books for the target age range. I describe Brooklyn Bridge is good but not special. Narration is excellent.
    Amazing
I Loved this book it was so detailed and the best historical fiction book ever

    Members Reviews:
    Great historical fiction
Marcus Flavius and Justinius are two of my favorite Sutcliff characters. Both are incredibly likeable and this story of their efforts to protect the Emperor Carausius from a plot to overthrow Roman Britain is an interesting story about the opposing forces that shaped what would eventually become Anglo Saxon Britain. The Silver Branch is set about a hundred years before the fall of the Roman Empire and is one of the best examples of her ability to take what little is known for sure about Ancient Britain and weave it into a realistic story line. Johanna Ward has the perfect voice for narrating Sutcliff's lyrical writing style. Sometimes I hit the rewind just to hear a particularly lovely descriptive passage again. I have also read this book in print and the audio is great because you don't have to figure out how to pronounce some of the ancient words or places like Asklepiodotus or Rutupiae.
    Decent but not great
This is the second book in Sutcliff's Roman Trilogy - it was OK although a little difficult to follow. I listen as I comute to and from work and that didnt seem to be an optimal way to listen to this one - it might be better on a long drive. The lantern bearers is a much better book. The narration was solid
    Fabulous narrator
The story is exciting and beautifully written. Ms Ward's narration is perfect- she's great at catching the meaning of the sentences and her pronunciations are spot on.
Well done story of friendship, courage, loyalty & self-sacrifice.
After reading the first book of this series, I enjoyed reading this book, the second one of the series. This book is a well written story set in the latter days of the Roman Empire with a good historical flavor for the period. This story is about friendship, family, loyalty, courage and self-sacrifice. In short the virtues portrayed in this book are quite welcome and especially needed in our time.

Fans of "The Fault in Our Stars" Will Enjoy
With the movie and book "The Fault in Our Stars" released, the teens of nowadays are going through a phase of reading books that are set around the topic of "Cancer". When you get to my age though, you have read so many books about this topic, that often it can get kind of boring as you are reading the same thing over and over again. However, Sally Nicholls book "Ways to Live Forever" was amazing and was definitely not boring. The book is set around two main characters 11 year old Sam and 13 year old Felix . Both of the boys have Cancer and are dying, so they are home-schooled by Mrs Willis. One day Mrs Willis gives the boys an idea - to write a book . Sam gets really into it and starts to make a bucket list and a book filled with random questions about Cancer, Death and the actual Dying part and begins writing. Felix , the more outgoing one decides to help Sam tick off and complete his bucket list one by one. The book not only focuses on Sam and Felix but also their families reaction to the Cancer issue. Ways to Live Forever was a really good read and it was great to see Tween/Teen Male Protagonists for a change as well. I will warn you readers that be prepared for the ending with the mindset that it is a "cancer story".
This book is really worth reading and fans of "The Fault in Our Stars" will enjoy.
    Very moving
My sons 10th grade English class(English as a second language) was required to read this book, so I decided to read it too. In class the teacher was clever enough to skip a few chapters because some chapters can be real tear jerkers. Glad to read a story from a boy's perspective.
    Great Read
I fundraise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, and I saw that a friend was teaching this book in his children's literature course, so I decided to pick up a copy to read. While I was dismayed that the book wasn't written by a cancer patient, the book expertly captured a strenuous and challenging chapter of a family's life. Dealing with cancer isn't easy, but Ways to Live Forever somehow painted living with cancer in a positivistic light. The book would be a great read for any parent with a child undergoing cancer treatment, as it advocates helping the child live dreams.
I am absolutely in love with this book
I am absolutely in love with this book. I saw the movie first and as soon as I did, I knew I had to read the book. it's so sweet and well written and having seen the movie first, I can picture everyone's face and hear their voices and it's just perfect. It's an amazing story.
    Sam is Dying:
I picked his book up on a whim, thought oh this looks interesting. I found myself having read it cover to cover in one sitting.
This book is about a fictional 11yr old Sam. Sam has cancer, Although the doctors have tried it is incurable.

A readable biography that showed the growth of a boy to an extraordinary man
Great book for young readers. Honestly, I usually dislike any type of biographies, but this was different. The photos and drawings not only broke up the text and made the reading more inviting, but they were quite interesting in their own right. The many facts, especially direct quotes, of Lincoln were intriguing and some funny. Slavery was a âmonstrous injustice.â It was a âcancerâ threatening to grow out of control âin a nation originally dedicated to the inalienable rights of man.â Lincoln agreed with others that he was rather homely referring once to his âpoor, lean, lank face.â When a rival called him âtwo-facedâ during a political debate, Lincoln replied: âI leave it to my audience If I had another face, do you think Iâd wear this one?â Some of the letters included reveal a man of great penmanship and great words. What struck me most throughout the book was the ending. He seemed to be aware that he would die by assassination, and accepted such. âIf I wore a shirt of mail, and kept myself surrounded by a bodyguard, it would be all the same. There are a thousand ways of getting at a man if it is desired that he should be killed.â And later he had a dream that he was wandering through the White House but no one was around until he reached the East Room, where a wake was held. When he asked âWho is dead in the White House?â the answer was âThe President, he was killed by an assassin.â At that point he woke in his dream. In all, a fascinating look at an ordinary man who lived a more-than-ordinary life, devoting it to leading his loved country. ââI have no other so great (ambition) as that of being truly esteemed of my fellow men, by rendering myself worthy of their esteem.â This book reads more like an adventure than a biography, but contains everything one could hope to learn from a biography.

    excellent!
story was performed perfectly to bring out the best of this wonderful novel. one of my favorite books as a kid & now one of my favorite audiobooks
    Excellent
The author was amazing as always and the reader was excellent!! We loved this book!!
    an enchanting adventure
What did you like most about Journey to the River Sea?
The story of Maia's journey from Victorian boarding school to the wilds of the Amazon is exciting and full of unexpected adventure. It kept us hooked, wanting to know what happened next. Despite the protagonist being a girl, my 10 year old son loved this story, particularly enjoying the excitements with Finn & Clovis, and it transported us to another time, and another world. Utterly absorbing.
What did you like best about this story?
Maia's awakening to the wonders of the Amazon jungle, its people and all the possibilities away from the stultifying confines of school and the Carter family. The plot meanders as dramatically as the Amazon river itself, from the strange and obsessive Carter parents and their terrible twins to the excitement, drama and fun that Maia has with Finn and Clovis.
Which character as performed by Imelda Staunton was your favourite?
Miss Minton. She appears to be dour and terrifying at the outset, but turns out to be a dark horse, with an intriguing secret past. She has an ability to teach Maia everything from the delights of the magical jungle to the virtues of kindness, loyalty, friendship and love. She is an inspiration in so many ways, holding Maia's hand on her journey growing up & discovering so much about the world.
    Any additional comments?
I would highly recommend this to any 9+ reader. Eva Ibbotson's books are delightful, beautifully written and would keep any young reader hooked. I would also recommend One Boy and his Dog.
