    Publisher's Summary:
Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother, Lugh, is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.
Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetically minimal writing style, violent action, and an epic love story. Moira Young is one of the most promising and startling new voices in teen fiction.

A unique voice that sticks with you
Lately I have started way too many audio books and not been able to finish any of them. This one however hooked me right away and didn't let go.
The voice of the main character, Saba, is fresh and unique. The language is minimalistic, at times broken, and seems to be taken right out of the wild west. Though from the hints dropped by the author it seems the story is set in the future after civilization as we know it is no more. This is the first book in a series and while the main storyline wraps up nicely, I was still left with many lingering questions I'm hoping will be answered in forthcoming installments.
One of my favorite things about this novel was how the author made me care about the characters. They were fleshed out, completely three dimensional and utterly human. You see rather than being told how Saba and other character grow throughout the hardships they face. As an animal lover, I also loved the bond between Saba and her crow Nero.
The book is action packed and I didn't find any spots where the story really dragged. I really liked the immediacy created by the first person, present tense narration. I felt like I was right there with the characters experiencing everything they did.
Now for the romance. The romance was sweet and totally appropriate for teens. I can see how the author plans to build on the relationships developed in the first book and I'm hoping she delves deeper into other characters...like the mysterious Demalo. Jack, the love interest in the book challenges Saba and it's nice to see her fight against her feelings and finally, finally give into them. Overall this was an exceptional debut novel. It was unique, surprising, and a whole lot of fun! The narration was spot on as well and I'm hoping they stick with Ms. Lind for upcoming books in this series.
    Amazingtastic!
Where does Blood Red Road rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This is my first audiobook, but I wanted to try one that I knew would be good.

    Publisher's Summary:
Since her parents' bitter divorce, Mclean and her dad, a restaurant consultant, have been on the move - four towns in two years. Estranged from her mother and her mother's new family, Mclean has followed her dad in leaving the unhappy past behind. And each new place gives her a chance to try out a new persona: from cheerleader to drama diva. But now, for the first time, Mclean discovers a desire to stay in one place and just be herself - whoever that is. Perhaps her neighbor Dave, an academic superstar trying to be just a regular guy, can help her find out. Combining Sarah Dessen's trademark graceful writing, great characters, and compelling storytelling, What Happened to Goodbye is irresistible reading.
    Editorial Reviews:
Sarah Dessen is young adult author royalty with numerous awards and a best-selling streak. She is known for creating authentic characters in various family predicaments and on journeys of self-discovery. What Happened to Goodbye follows this formula while managing to be fresh and moving.
Dessens newest teen protagonist, Mclean, is ready to start over yet again. After her parents messy divorce, she chose to live with her father who has a consulting job for failing restaurants. For two years, shes moved every few months, becoming a new person in every new town. When she arrives in Lakeview (a familiar town for Dessen fans), she must decide who she wants to be and how shes going to handle her estranged mother.
New narrator Meredith Hagner, a former soap opera star, performs the book like a conversation and nails the dialogue with convincing teen inflections and fast pace. While Hagners rapid fire dialogue works well, her fast performance of the expository narration makes it hard to follow and enjoy Dessens sharp writing. In the latter half of the novel, she settles into a better rhythm and gives a strong performance.
Sarah Dessen consistently captures the angst of high school and family dynamics. Usually theres a romance angle, and What Happens to Goodbye has Mclean dancing around a perceptive and smart boy next door, Dave Wade. Some Dessen devotees might be disappointed that theres less of a love story in this book than some of her previous novels. There is more emphasis on other secondary characters though, an interesting assortment of teens with their own challenges.
What Happened to Goodbye is a great choice for female young adult readers, both avid and reluctant. Its an engaging and satisfying listen, perfect for road trips and book groups. Meredith Hagner has a promising start as a narrator and Dessen adds to her excellent body of work.

Be Prepared for a Great Book!
I really enjoyed listening to 'What Happened to Goodbye' by Sarah Dessen. It's the type of of story I'm always on the hunt for. It really expresses a lot of what every teenage girl goes through! A young girl who is trying to find her place in the world. I recommended this book to all my friends and I hope they read it because they will be seriously missing out!
And Meredith Hagner is a pretty good narrator, she just needs to put more personality into her characters. Give them more life! And if she decides to narrate another book, I will most definitely consider buying the audio; if the story line is good, of course!

    One of her best!
I'm a big Sarah Dessen fan, but this might be my favorite yet.

    Critic Reviews:
The author does a fantastic job of creating a suspenseful mood and successfully sustains it throughout, and Morgan inhabits a world of magical powers that the average Wiccan does not. The information and facts about Wicca arent as plentiful as in other series but the story is more exciting and adventurous. (

Awesome to hear the stories being told.
Would you consider the audio edition of Blood Witch to be better than the print version?
I love reading books. However listening to the book gives so much more of the story and ability to bond with the characters. You truly get a better sense of who and what they are.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Witch?
The end. I was totally caught off guard. I never saw it coming.
Have you listened to any of Julia Whelans other performances before? How does this one compare?
In the past week I have plowed through 4 of the 5 books of this series. She is one of the best I have listened too.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Honestly, yes. Most of the books I buy are a at least 10 hours, so this was the only complaint i have for this series.
    Any additional comments?
I'm an older women. I did not think I would like a series that goes back to high school. But the truth is, this series is not about being a kid in school and or about being young. It's about learning who and what you are. They told the story in such a way that her age really did not play into the series. And when It did, it was not petty teenage things.
    Fun Read/Good Narration
This is a fun quick light read with a great narrator. This book is better than the first two.

I love this series. I think the midnight series is pretty much the best out of all of the series. butt it is infuriating that I cannot get the next three books on audiobook.
    Good entertainment...
Okay listen (Damon is hot!) but too much focus on Elena. Would have wished for Bonnie (or anyone else really) to shine some more. Don't like that Elena takes up all the space and seems to take for granted that she is the center of them all.
    Great
I love love love this series!!! I hate some of the characters in this series bc they drive me crazy! I love the story! I would recommend this series FOR SURE!!!!
It is sad that the next series are not in audio
If you could sum up The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight in three words, what would they be?
Ok. I like the ending. The middle was kinda boring, but it was a great story nevertheless. I just love the dark dimension.
    Another good book
What did you love best about The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight?
I listened to all the books in the series nonstop during a roadtrip. It was the perfect entertainment it kept me interested and I was able to focus on the story rather than comparing it to the tv version.

    still! wonderful series.
This is amazing series. An absolute must read, listen. Christina Moore knocked it out of the park again.
Everything my nerdy brain wants in a fantasy book.
If you could sum up A Wizard of Mars in three words, what would they be?
    Mars, Mars, MARS!!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Kit and Nita from her previous books. This story expands Kit's character, and as always, I love his geeky nature. In this book, be becomes obsessed with Mars (as Diane Duane obviously has) and we are delighted throughout his adventures with true facts about current Mars discoveries and references to past classics about Mars integrated nearly seamlessly into Duane's fantastic Wizardly world.
    Any additional comments?
Diane Duane always gives me everything I imagine would be true if two young geeky kids from a normal high school were suddenly thrown into wizard world similar to and yet delightfully different from Harry Potter. While J.K. Rowling expands the fantastical and ironical in "real world" scenes, Diane Duane emphasizes the realistic.
For instance, the opening scene introduces Kit, sitting in a high school history class a week before school lets out for the summer with the air conditioning broken. Having sat in a few classes high school classes as a student teacher this past semester where this was just the case, I completely commiseration with him, and his sneaky use of wizardry to fix the problem when he thinks the teacher isn't looking.
In addition, Diane Duane gives us a delightful ride in her classic world where wizards are real people, hiding their abilities from their non-wizard friends, dealing with day-to-day problems while fighting "The Lone Power". If you have not read her other books in this series first, I highly recommend that you do. In "A Wizard of Mars," we are thrown into a scenario that emphasizes the similarity of her story premise to that of C.S. Lewis' "The Space Trilogy," without the heavy Christian overtones in Lewis' books. And his books are not the only Mars books that she references in delightful and comic ways!
Diane Duane never seems to fail at making me laugh, cry and think, even when these stories are directed at a high school audience and I am much older than this! :) I just wish Audible provided more than just her Young Adult books, I'm dying to read some of her newer work!
Oh, and one last thing about Christina Moore's performance: Don't worry, the wizard dinosaur's speaking parts are over soon.

    Publisher's Summary:
    In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place - and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make - between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.
    Members Reviews:
    Engaging and Warm-hearted!
I found this story well-written, with a fresh, novel voice for this genre. Not all the dialogue and characters are "what you might expect". (Examples: I really enjoyed the way Clara's inner life, her thoughts and sense of humor are written, and the love-story aspect of it is not drowned in cliche'). The characters become very real because they are warm-hearted, engaging and compelling. The heroine and other main characters are quite believable. To me the narration was pretty much perfectly suited to Clara and the other characters throughout. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes the difference between a story that does draw you in and feels truly heartfelt and one that does not, but this story definitely has it, and I highly recommend it. My only minor complaint is that, after a lot of anticipation, I found the very end just a bit lackluster. Evidently, that was how the author felt she wanted to segue to a sequel at the time, but after the two most dramatic scenes toward the end, I felt it lacked the punch it could have had. Having said that, the characters have won me over and I will definitely be on board for the next installment!
    Fantastic story, horrible narrator.
GREAT story, the ending is compelling! It's hard to stop reading/listening. However, I must say the narrator is NOT my favorite. She confuses character voices frequently. She even confused male/female voices a couple times!! Ugh. And, she also had a hard time pulling out of the character voice back to the narrator tone. I found it all very distracting and annoying! So I gave it 4 stars. Story deserves 5 stars, but narrator flaws lowered it.
Beautifully written love & rite of passage story
What did you love best about Unearthly?
I loved how the whole story caught and held my attention. And the only part of the plot that's comparable to other novels is the love triangle! But that just made the story even greater!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Definitely Clara! She was such a "special" girl but evenstill she stayed humble and never let all the power she had go to her head.

    Publisher's Summary:
Pip, a poor orphan being raised by a cruel sister, does not have much in the way of great expectations between his terrifying experience in a graveyard with a convict named Magwitch and his humiliating visits with the eccentric Miss Havisham's beautiful but manipulative niece, Estella, who torments him until he is elevated to wealth by an anonymous benefactor. Full of unforgettable characters, Great Expectations is a tale of intrigue, unattainable love, and all of the happiness money can't buy.
Great Expectations has the most wonderful and most perfectly worked-out plot for a novel in the English language, according to John Irving, and J. Hillis Miller declares, Great Expectations is the most unified and concentrated expression of Dickens's abiding sense of the world, and Pip might be called the archetypal Dickens hero.

    Great Expectations for Great Expectations
This is the first time I ever read Dickens. Of course, many of his books' plots are well known and this one, for me, was lesser known, so I chose this one. I really wanted it when I saw that John Lee narrates. I am completely in love with his voice, and this book he stretched his acting chops maybe a bit more than in other books...but I enjoyed that. So, 5 of 5 stars for John Lee!
I won't go into plot points here, but I must say that I found the major twist in the book to be totally expected. I guessed it at least 5 hours before it was revealed, so that was slightly disappointing for me. I like to be kept on my toes. I thought the whole bit in the beginning of the book was quite humorous and was quite delighted with that. But then...
It becomes a funeral dirge for the last third of the book. People told me to expect that with Dickens, so I wasn't surprised and I am certainly not going to quibble about Dickens, but it just did not hold my attention. It took me a long time to get though the last third because I kept falling asleep. As noted above, I like to be kept on my toes.
So, while I am not unhappy that I read Great Expectations, I probably would never return to it. I can't imagine this book keeping my attention without John Lee's expert voice bringing the characters to life, but over all, I would give the book 3 of 5 stars and the narration 5 of 5 stars....hence the 4 star review for the listening experience, overall. I guess I had.... Great Expectations for this book. (sorry! couldn't resist!)

GREAT STORY! READ THE ABRIDGED VERSION THOUGH
I've never reviewed a book before, but I've decided to review this one because while I LOVED the story and the characters, the writer repeated herself sooooo much that halfway through the book I had to skip to the end because it started to grate on my nerves listening to the same situations and feelings repeated over and over and over again. It seemed as though with each new event I had to listen to the protagonist re-tell every feeling and event from the previous pages. It was as if the author thought that I was stupid so she had to repeat everything all the time just in case I couldnt remember. I think that the writer could take out about a fourth of the book and that would make it better. I'm surprised that her editor didn't help her cut some or a lot of the rehashing just to help the story move along. This is the first book that I believe the 'abridged' version would be an improvement on the unabridged. BTW, I LOVED the Narrarator Therese Plummer!
    Took my breath away
Firelight has been the most captivating and refreshing YA novel I've read for a long time. It is a splendid mixture of fantasy, supernatural and Romance. Especially the Romance. I was intrigued by how intense and intoxicating the romance could be. I read hundreds of YA paranormal romance, many of them I quickly dismissed because they sounded so cheesy, so shallow, so hollow, so empty and so.....plz, not this again!!! That won't ever happen in Firelight. I have rarely felt so connect with a character before. Jacinda is a distinctive individual, a heroine you will come to like. Her emotions, her desires, her fears.....they were still so vivid in my mind that it's hard to get over. All the unique characters, the fluid and beautiful writings, the intense details made this book addictive and irresistible! I was completely and helplessly sucked in.
    He lights her fire
Firelight is a type of Romeo and Juliet tale where Will, who is a hunter, meets Jacinda who happens to be a drakia, an intelligent being evolved from dragons; Wills family hunts drakia.
The Drakia keep a closely guarded secret that no one, not even the hunters know; they can transform into human form.
As circumstances bring these two together there is an immediate attraction.

For 13 years, Ben Tomlin was an only child. But all that changes when his mother brings home Zan - an eight-day-old chimpanzee. Bens father, a renowned behavioral scientist, has uprooted the family to pursue his latest research project: a high-profile experiment to determine whether chimpanzees can acquire advanced language skills. Bens parents tell him to treat Zan like a little brother. Ben reluctantly agrees. At least now hes not the only one his fathers going to scrutinize.
It isnt long before Ben is Zans favorite, and Ben starts to see Zan as more than just an experiment. His father disagrees. Good but with distractions
The cover art on this book gives you a hint of what this book is about but not the depth and variety. It's an interesting if imperfect book around a Canadian family: a professor father, a mother working on her PhD, and son Ben. It's the 1970s and Ben is just turning 13. His family is moving across country from Toronto to Victoria so that his behavioral psychologist father can take a position at a new university. Ben and his father make the drive between the two cities and this gives some focus to the somewhat distant relationship between the two.
Shortly after they arrive at their new home, while the movers are still putting things away, Ben's mother arrives with an eight-day-old chimpanzee bundled in her arms. Ben learns that part of the reason the family has moved is so that his father can pursue a research project concerning language and primates. The father will study whether the chimp can learn American Sign Language (ASL). The 1970s setting would make this still innovative. Koko the gorilla, who learned around 1000 ASL signs, was born in 1971. In fact, many of the scientific challenges and milestones in this book are similar to those faced by Koko and her trainers.
Having the chimp in the household is an unpleasant surprise for Ben despite encouragement from his parents that he think of it as a new brother. As the story continues it describes the growing attachment between Ben and the chimp they end up naming Zan (a shortened version of Tarzan). The father hires assistants from the graduate students at the university and the training begins. But the father begins having problems getting hoped-for grants for much the same reason that some in the scientific community were skeptical of Koko's accomplishments, preferring to believe it was simply an example of the "Clever Hans" effect. They believe Zan is learning signs simply to get food or attention.
Meanwhile there are story distractions surrounding Ben's experiences at a new school with new friends, including the sister of a friend with whom he becomes infatuated. I suppose as a YA book this adds some sense of reality but I thought the book would have been cleaner without the two stories running throughout.

It should be in the YA genre but somehow suits all
Throughout the entire series I could not help thinking at 40ish this series was too young for me, then all at once something would happen and I was hooked again.
I would not say it was my favourite paranormal series off all time but was compelled to buy all books in the series to find out what happens and very pleased I did.
Well worth a listen, a very different take on the whole genre
    Odd quirk
The different pronunciations of "Hugin/Hugo" did my head in, though I know it's spelt in those two ways in the books (which I never understood). Still loved it though.
    Series of the year!
Ive Been reading Cassandra Claire since April and wow. Whatn a epic extraordinary and amazing world. Never read anything like it before and am sadly disappointed to have just finished the very last book. Hopefully by now Youve read the inferno dvices and first two books of the immortal instruments. If youre stopping to check out reviews, it means your curious which also means youve been taken in by the shadow world and will probably love city of glass. And if you love city of glass then keep going. I wasnt sure about city of Fallen Angels but like all the rest, yip taken in and no way disappointed. Gets better and better. This is some seriously good writing and I have no idea what Im going to read after this. Anything else will be a let down.
A great story and well read.
Where does City of Glass rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
City of Glass is not the best book I have listened to, but it is an enjoyable read and an excellent story.
What other book might you compare City of Glass to and why?
City of Glass is another example of good triumphing over evil, love over hatred and truth over lies.
What does Natalie Moore bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Natalie Moore was able to bring the emotion of the characters alive to the reader. Just reading it does as well but not to the extent that listening does.
Originally the final, thank goodness not!
Where does City of Glass rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    It's in the top 10
What other book might you compare City of Glass to and why?
It's the culmination of so many fantasy archetypes done in a fab new way with awesome cheek! There is none other than those written by Cassandra, but I also enjoy many of her co authors
Which character as performed by Natalie Moore was your favorite?
Jace...I love Jace, he's always so broken, ironic, sarcastic...I relate to him.
    Any additional comments?
So relieved there is more to it than this book, you get to savour some deeply twisted moments along with euphoric happy ones and I was sad when it "finished". In books 4 & 5 the story and character development rocks...so keep reading
