    Teacher's Perspective
I wanted to preview this book (while listening during my running workouts) for my 7th and 8th graders in a reading class because of the historical content. The reader does an excellent job with a wide range of voices. The story itself has a blend of humor and dramatic elements. It introduces the underground railroad, the concept of spies in relation to the Civil War, and the climax centers on the battle of Gettysburg. Add in the fact that Homer, the main character, is an orphan, and you have the ingredients for a compelling story. A word of caution: many readers may need some background about the Civil War to support their comprehension of the whole thing. I liked it, and would recommend this for a family listen on a road trip or something like that.
    What Fun!
I wish the kids in my daughter's class could have read this book instead of "Across Five Aprils"! It is funny, insightful, tragic and an all around good time. Mr. Philbrick manages to portray the naivety of youth with the harsh realities of war in an accessible way for all readers. I highly recommnend this fun, face paced book.
    Amazing story and great narration!
I liked how the narrator uses different voices for each character and kept them consistant. Always remembering which voice was for which. And the story was a combination of comedy, and heartfelt chapters the left me wanting to listen more.
Good mix of the serious and the humorous
The author's unique style makes a solemn, serious topic enjoyable for adults and youth alike. It's heavy at times, but the Twain-like tale keeps it from becoming burdensome. Really enjoyed this, and the narrator was perfect for the story.

    Critic Reviews:
Besides evoking a type of independence and tough-mindedness that will appeal to teens, this provocative novel introduces and explores some interesting philosophies of life while stressing the value of learning from experience. (Publishers Weekly)

Chapters don't go in order on the audio.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The chapters are out of order. I ordered it to use with students with special needs. It was very confusing for them.
    Great Adventure Story.
Great book but the ending was a little lack luster. overall worth a listen. Seems as if the ending was left off in a matter where it could be a series but did not see a second book in my search.

Theres bad news and good news about the Cutter High School swim team. The bad news is that they dont have a pool. The good news is that only one of them can swim anyway. A group of misfits brought together by T. J. Jones (the J is redundant), the Cutter All Night Mermen struggle to find their places in a school that has no place for them. T.J. is convinced that a varsity letter jacket - exclusive, revered, the symbol (as far as T.J. is concerned) of all that is screwed up at Cutter High - will also be an effective tool. Hes right. Hes also wrong. Still, its always the quest that counts. And the bus on which the Mermen travel to swim meets soon becomes the space where they gradually allow themselves to talk, to fit, to grow. Together theyll fight for dignity in a world where tragedy and comedy dance side by side, where a moments inattention can bring lifelong heartache, and where true acceptance is the only prescription for what ails us.

    Wonderful Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
My seven-year-old loves this book. She read it first, but now she enjoys listening to it over and over because the narrator uses excellent voices for the different characters and pronounces the Chinese words. We highly recommend it!
What about Angela Lins performance did you like?
Voices and Chinese pronunciation make this a wonderful listen.

    What?!?
This was such a disappointing ending. It was a long series, to a simple/quick climax with the villain, then a confusing and ambiguous ending. The series started out excellent. I loved all the other books and waited anxiously for this one. After listening, I was angry at wasting the credit on this book. At first I thought there must be another book coming, then discovered that this was the finale. What happened?! It felt like the author lost interest in the story and, instead of making any strong conclusions, just kind of stopped writing. Very unsatisfying.
    kind of disappointed
Would you try another book from Lili St. Crow and/or Alyssa Bresnahan?
    Yes i would
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Was not happy at all with it
Did Alyssa Bresnahan do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
yes she did she has a good voice for it.
Do you think The Reckoning needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes because it didn't end with answers. it was like she left it open for a spin off series.
    Any additional comments?
I was so looking forward to the end of this serious, and I was very disappointed on the ending. I hope she does a spin off of it so we can get more answers.
    SPOILER bad ending
well. that shit was depressing. it's like, ok.. we're going to put all this emotional weight on you and not give a satisfying ending. sure, we killed the bag guy but let me just remind you someone will replace him and they'll be back. also let's not have any emotional relief and make your best friend and someone you love leave you before you wake up and almost not get a goodbye. sure, you want your main character to be a tough chick and don't need a man to be happy. ok then just have the character say she doesn't need to be with someone right now. it's not a good time and have him still stay around and supply the reader with some sort of happy ending, some sort of emotional relief from the chaos the character was experiencing.
    WHAT THE....
Really??? What kind of "ENDING" WAS THAT???? Seriously?? I FINALLY STARTED TO LIKE THE NARRATOR & WAS EXCITED ABOUT THIS BOOK....THEN I DON'T EVEN KNOW!! THIS SHOULD BE 3.5 STARS BUT I WAS NICE & ROUNDED UP!!

    Critic Reviews:
"Continuing all the steamy romance of the first two books, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Simone Elkeles gives fans one more satisfying taste of the irresistible Fuentes boys." (Amazon.com review)

    Love these characters!
As with all the books in this series, I loved the characters and loved following characters from previous books in this series. I was sucked into the story but felt disappoint at a certain issue that was underdeveloped and never specifically "answered". All in all, a fun read and totally worth the purchase!
    I LOVE THIS SERIES
I have really enjoyed this series...I wish there were more...I fell in love with this family and the girls they ended up with. I love the loyality that these boys/men had for their families and girls. I loved that they were NOT perfect and had REAL issues to work through.
I recommend this series for anyone wanting a nice listen with a great story about relationships and family. (with some toughness)
    I love Simone Elkeles books!
If you could sum up Chain Reaction in three words, what would they be?
This was a great as I hoped it was. I hope she keeps going with the Fuentes family!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Luis is my favorite character because he's fun
Have you listened to any of Roxanne Hernandez and Blas Kisic s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I never have, but I really like Blas Kisic A LOT.
this is a great book 3in an even better series.
Would you consider the audio edition of Chain Reaction to be better than the print version?
I only read audio because i feel a narator can capture a book much better than a print version. I def feel this book is much better read in the audio formatt.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Chain Reaction?
Every moment in this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. This whole series is a never ending adventure.
What does Roxanne Hernandez and Blas Kisic bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Both narators in this book truly bring it to life. Blas brings an energy and a dangerous edge to reading that i have verry rarely heard befor. Roxanne also brings a good note to this book.

    Members Reviews:
    Way too much self loathing!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend it, but with a warning. Some parts are extremely frustrating. They are many times when the main character could defend herself, but does not. She also find a way to blame herself for EVERYTHING. I'm not a fan of self loathing characters. The twin sister was also extremely irritating. Overall, it's a good story though. The first book was better.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Therese Plummer?
    Yes
Could you see Vanish being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    Yes
    Guess this is YA
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Nothing could have made this better. It must be young adult or something, although I didn't see it marked as such.
What was most disappointing about Sophie Jordans story?
Really not much story line and very repetitive.
    Any additional comments?
Juvenile storyline, writing and overall don't waste a credit or money.
    yes and no
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
a less predictable/cliché story (romance), and a less headstrong heroine
Has Vanish turned you off from other books in this genre?
yes and no. I like paranormal, but this series is yet another example of the many many stories that build an interesting world with good characters and then fill it with a mediocre and predictable romance.
What aspect of Therese Plummers performance would you have changed?
Have listened to several of her performances, and she only has one male voice, which she uses for all males in every book. So too bad it isn't a very good male voice, to me it sounds like a 40-50 year old man wearing a suit, which is a problem when the hero is 18 and still in high school. Otherwise her narration is pleasant to listen to.
Thrilling and Frustrating at the Same Time!
    Any additional comments?
I was surprised by the negative reviews! I thought it was a perfect sequel to a very exciting trilogy! Getting an inside look at the pride, the place where Jacinda should feel the most comfortable, the most at home.

I didn't like how David was portrayed
While it was another fun story by Wendy Mass I don't like how Davi was portrayed. It was like him being being Jewish was his only defining characteristic. I'm Jewish and let me Jay's say "We aren't any different than anyone else". My friend also read it and than when my Bat Mitzvah came along she wondered why MINE wasn't just like David's. All I did was memorize a Torah passage and lead a service DAVID on the other hand practiced in the pool hole the whole summer. When listening to this book I hope that you don't think that all Jewish people are just like David he's just a stereotype.
    Delightful and meaningful, a gift.
So much more than we ever expected, grateful. Wonderful story! Exactly the right kind of magic. Something to think about on every page.
