Grandchild Special

Grandchildren love to spend time with you and read a book. This book is well written, playful and full of wonderful elephants can be trained to do. God creation never ceases to amaze me.

Great for Preschoolers

This is a well written and beautifully illustrated book about a boy and an elephant. My four year old loves reading it before bedtime.

Lovely

I loved listening to this again; it transported me back to when I'd listen to this as a child. My only disappointment is that this version doesn't include the sound effects that were on the version I had as a child. The music at the start goes on for a little too long too, but over all this is a lovely book. Good narrator too.

Whole family loves Brambly Hedge

I'm not sure who loves the Brambly Hedge series more, me or my children (2 boys ages 3 and 4.) I only wish I had read them as a child. The beautiful illustrations and sweet stories are an antidote to the overly-computer generated graphics and underlying sarcasm I find in many of today's children's books. Only wish there were more. For others who feel the same, I suggest "Hopalong Jack and the Blue Bunnies" and "The Journey of Bushky Bushybottom" by Jeri Landers. Similar beautifully-detailed drawings and adventures of woodland creatures.

A classic, as are all four seasons of the Brambly Hedge stories. Every bit as lovely as the Beatrix Potter series of books.

Wonderful Autumn book

There really isn't a lot of quality books about the Fall, which is a shame since it is such a lovely season. Kill Barklem books about Brambley Hedge are wonderful little tales, filled with detailed drwaings about the little community of mice. Winter is just around the corner and the harvest is not complete. crops The mice rush to collect the rest of their crops before the rain begins. The wealthy Lord Woodmouse's daughter tries to help out in earnest but has wandered into the Woods. Now she is lost and scared, and it is after dark. Thrilling little tale that is worth it for the artwork alone.

Being the biggest and the eldest is not always the easiest!

6 year old Billy, the turtle, has four older brothers and sisters. He is fed up with them telling him what to do. You have to remember that turtles do not have parents to look after them. One night, after losing his temper with his siblings, he looks up, sees a star and decides to make a wish that he was the oldest.

When he wakes up the next morning he feels unusually tired and is very surprised when his big sister calls him "big brother." His wish has come true but of course his siblings do not believe him because to them he has always been their big brother! He soon realizes that being the eldest is not all he thought it would be & is in fact a lot of hard work - cooking the meals, getting the little ones put to bed, taking them places etc.

After a month, he looks out to see the brightest star he had ever seen & guess what he wishes for?

This is a cute story. There are no pictures & in my opinion is written for parents to read to their children. Of course if you have an older, independent reader then he/she will probably enjoy reading it too.

Dragons from various parts of the world with different characteristics and foibles, I recommend this reading to those children who delight in the world of fantasy. The book is wholly focused on the different types of dragons whether they are beneficent or otherwise. The illustrations by the illustrator of Rabbit and the Dragon king does another spectacular job of presenting amazing dragons in many forms. Brilliant colors and exciting compositions throughout the page. I recommend this book to young readers or adults who just like dragons.

a history of dragon lore

This is a non-fiction book that is exceptionally well illustrated. It tells about the origins of dragon mythology and how dragons are perceived around the world. One of my boys is going through a dragon craze, and even though the text is a little young for him, the illustrations are gorgeous, and the book is fun to read. He has been trying his hand at drawing some dragons - this book has such stylish illustrations that he is trying for a similar look.
