    Crazy Good!!!
Wow this story blew me away. The torment Jenny goes through mentally and physically is exhausting, but she doesn't loose sight of getting out. She experienced so much sorrow and pain in her life, but to wake up in total darkness would have to be the worst thing ever. I didn't see the ending coming, it was a good twist.
I am def a Kelli Owen fan now.
    AMAZING
this book kept me on the edge from the first word to the very last! TJ's narration was perfection as well! very enjoyable to listen to!
I felt like I would react exactly the same way in every instance of this story as Jenny so it added an extra interesting layer for me.
everyone needs this audiobook if you enjoy a good thriller!
    Good, a bit slow
I liked the thoughts behind this book a lot. It was really good but a bit slow in areas. I wanted a bit more action.
The narrator was great!! Good voice. Able to portray emotions.
    Loved This Book!!!
This was such a great book! I was on the edge of my seat the whole book wondering and trying to guess what was going to happen next. I often found myself wondering what I would have done if I was in the same situation as Jenny. TJ Richards did such a great job narrating this book. Can't wait to now listen/read more of Kelli Owne's books.
    I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
The author did a really good job of describing everything the main character, Jenny, was doing and feeling that I was completely drawn in. It really made me feel for Jenny. Waking up in the dark, not knowing where you were or what was going on.. Thinking about who she may have wronged and did this to her... Frightening!
I can't think of anything that I didn't like except that the book ended! Please say there will be a sequel.. I can not be left hanging!
Now as for the narration. I loved Tj Richards voice.. She has a smooth flowing way to her speech with just a hint of an accent. I will definitely look for other titles that she narrates.
I did receive this title on a free credit but it in no way influenced my review of this audiobook.

    Good start.
Jack Carson just wants to find a place to lay low and stay hidden. He has little money, no ID and a watch that has stopped at 2.42. He enters Ironwood with the hopes that this will be the place, but things are never that easy!!
This is book one of A Jack Carson story but in all honesty, I felt like we were dropped into the middle of a series and were left not knowing what was going on. Now I know by the way the story was written that we will eventually find out everything, but it was a little frustrating not having a little more of the back story. I had so so many questions!!!
Other than that, this was a really good story. It's well written, with plenty of mystery and intrigue and had a cast of awesome characters. I really liked Jack and the cast of characters he meets in the bar. I'm intrigued to find out more bout the special agent trailing him!! I also can't wait to find out who the girl in the picture is!!
There is a lot to like about the book, and it points to a series that will be action packed, intriguing and very entertaining. The authors have created a very interesting world and one I can't wait to dive back into. I'm hoping book 2 will answer a lot of the questions I have!!!
In all, a solid start. It was intriguing, entertaining and held my attention throughout.
This is the first book I've listened to that was narrated by Ben Smith. He was pretty good. He had enough tones and voices to distinguish each character and knew how to increase the tenseness when needed. There were a few minor issues with the production, a few noises and a sentence repeated, but nothing to detract from the overall book. All in all, he read it well.
I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
    A different kind of hero
What did you love best about The Devil's Due?
Short but action-packed and great story.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    The fight at the club.
    Any additional comments?
Loved this story. Great characters and lots of action.

What makes this more intriguing is the jeweller who advanced Felicity the 30 shillings is Jack Phillips, Alma's current gentleman friend.

"Frances Brody has the knack of spinning a tale that has the charm of the period." (Daily Mail)

Mrs Shackleton seems a bit tired
Where does Death at the Seaside rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I just love these 1920's stories about Mrs Shackleton, private detective, and her side kick Mr Sykes, sleuthing in my home county of West Yorkshire. The period comes over so well, the sights and sounds and lives of the people are excellently drawn. However in this book Mrs Shackleton does not seem to be quite her usual self. She comes across as somewhat diffident. I just hope the break at the seaside will perk her up for her next adventure!
What did you like best about this story?
The descriptions of Whitby and the surrounding coast, which I know so well but of course not from the 20's. However from the tales of my parents I think the writer has captured the flavour of those times beautifully
Have you listened to any of Anne Dovers other performances? How does this one compare?
Ann Dover reads all the books clearly with good demarcation between the characters
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No I would not like to listen to any book at one setting. The joy of Audible is that you can relax and read to just when the mood takes you, but not all in one go.
    Any additional comments?
I did enjoy this book, and hope it is not the last we hear from Mrs Shackleton and her devoted helper Mr Sykes
    Disappointing
Do you have any additional comments?
I have been a fan of Frances Brody's Kate Shackleton since Book 1, so it was disappointing that this book strayed so far from those promising beginnings. The character Kate has become humourless and snobbish, and I couldn't understand why she would continually and blatantly lie to the police investigating a murder. She's supposed to be a private investigator, interested in uncovering the truth, but she obstructed their enquiries for no reason. I got half-way through the book but became so annoyed by Kate's attitude that I stopped listening. The previous book showed signs of straying from Kate's original character, humanity and humour, but this one went too far away for me. Such a shame.

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
London Society takes their problems to Sherlock Holmes. Everyone else goes to Arrowood.
The Afghan War is over, and a deal with the Irish appears to have brought an end to sectarian violence, but Britain's position in the world is uncertain, and the gap between rich and poor is widening.
London is a place where the wealthy party while the underclass are tempted into lives of crime, drugs and prostitution. A serial killer stalks the streets. Politicians are embroiled in financial and sexual scandals.
The year is 1895. The police don't have the resources to deal with everything that goes on in the capital. The rich turn to a celebrated private detective when they need help: Sherlock Holmes. But in densely populated South London, where crimes are sleazier and Holmes rarely visits, people turn to Arrowood, a private investigator who despises Holmes, his wealthy clientele and his showy forensic approach to crime. Arrowood understands people, not clues.
    Members Reviews:
Great debut of a new detective
Excellent story, with interesting characters. Good plot. Really nice to find a detective who is both flawed and humane. Told through the eyes of his assistant develops the characters through the relationship. The resentment that Arrowood feels for the celebrated Sherlock Holmes is a great sub-plot. The ending is very satisfying, without the overblown and unbelievable endings of so many detective stories. I would recommend this to anyone who is bored with the usual, jaded detective stereotype or of unrealistic heroics. I was gripped from beginning to end and look forward to Arrowood's next case. Oh, and the narration is excellent.
    Atmospheric
Vert interesting characters and brilliantly narrated.Really enjoyed it.
Look forward to future books. x
Straight out of the top drawer - a cracking story
Where does Arrowood rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Right up there with the best
Who was your favorite character and why?
Barnet. Long suffering but still with humour.
    Any additional comments?
This is a great detective story with the bonus of a well described period setting.
    Good book
This is an entertaining excellently narrated Victorian tale.
Hope this is the start of a series.
    Highly recommended
A new star in the detective firmament. Arrowood and Barnet are a double act more reminiscent of Shardlake and Barak than Holmes and Watson, whom Arrowood hates so much. This is the seedy side of London in the 1890s. Holmes visits this world but Arrowood lives in it. Flawed characters making the best of the situations they find themselves in - this is a cracking tale, well read by Malk Williams. The best recommendation is that I look forward eagerly to the next instalment.

    Thrilling exciting and suspenseful
From the first page the author had me hooked. There are some religious parts that I am not sure blends as easy as it should but over all I really enjoyed the plot. There is more than one story inside these pages. One man trying his best to help those that need it, abuse is serious and most walk away from it but not Norah he walks right into it. Your heart really breaks for those who are in need of his help.
I thought Mr. Hollands narration was great, he pulled me in making me part of the characters giving them life and breaking my heart. I found no repeating of words, no background noise or any volume changes. Just a very clean and clear audio that really grabs you right in the heart. His character voices were good I always knew what was talking along with what they were feeling. He gives true emotions to his characters as he spins you around his little finger pulling you in. His normal voice is just as pleasant as his character voices. I had no trouble picturing each scene as it unfolded. I thought his performance was outstanding. He was able to pull me in and hold my attention from start to finish. It was an audio I didnt want to put down and will listen to again.
The author gives you a gripping thriller of abuse and taking a stand fighting and trying your best to come out ahead. There are a few shocks along the way and you will be able to work it out before you get close to the end. You are let hanging just maybe a little unsure until to get to the last few pages where you will be cheering as the author leaves you with a smile on your face. I loved the plot, have mixed feelings about a few characters and didnt care for the bad guy at all. Which is what the author wanted me to feel, there are a few surprises with lots of suspense. This is a very tough issue but the author writes it with class giving you hope in mankind and putting faith back in your world. The plot at times was unpredictable which hooked you as the author fills it full of suspense with some exciting twists and turns. I really liked that the story wasnt built around family but had him helping others as well. I was hooked and look forward to reading more of her work.
    Interesting...
Would you try another book from V.B. Tenery and/or Theo Holland?
I will definitely be on the look out for more books narrated by Theo Holland because he did a fantastic job.
Would you ever listen to anything by V.B. Tenery again?
    Probably not.
    Any additional comments?
I think that this book is definitely between 2-3 stars, so let's split the difference and say 2.5. I wasn't sure why this book was labelled as "supernatural" on someone's shelf as I thought it was just a PI/detective mystery.

    What a roller coaster
I wanted to like this book, but there was a disconnect. At the beginning we spend so much time learning the exact call out times, the exact response time just tons of extra information, but the further you get into the story the less information you get. The story starts with a surgeon being called out for an injury wreck. It turns and twists into an affair, a kidnapping, another affair, murder, theft, illegal drugs etc. the story just kept building and escalating, but then it truly was a roller coaster drop. All that build up ended quickly and without the story to support the visions. I could tell where the author was going, but wish the entire story had been concise.
    A So-So read
A so-so book. While the plot line was interesting, the lead characterâs evolution was poor. Iâm tired of seeing the main character, Dr. Sands, act like an all-trusting idiot. Really? Give her more smarts and street cred. She acted more like the stereotypical damsel in distress than someone you hoped to have faith in getting out of her predicament. Her brain skills didnât match her survival skills (which at times seemed far fetched). Is it a British thing or me - but the use of the word âdarlingâ to describe your son and spouse was so 1940-ish.
    KEPT ME UP ALL NIGHT!!!
I couldn't believe how the story kept twisting and turning throughout the whole book. I never got bored. I never wanted to put it down. Just when you thought that you figured out the plot or if a character was good, or bad, "BAM" it changed!!! Great book, I will definitely read this one again, which I never do...
    good, well-paced read
I enjoyed this novel tremendously. The story line moves along at a deliberate pace, a refreshing change from thrillers where the entire story takes place within 24 hours. The author includes some game-changing plot twists--enough to keep you guessing to the end.
    Slow Bleed Was Intriguing!
Slow Bleed was intriguing. It captured me from the very beginning and held me captive until the last sentence. I wasn't sure why it was titled "Slow Bleed," but I finally got it. It was definitely a plot twisting, page turner for me. Dr. Jemma Sands' life, turned nightmare, was a strange set of circumstances, but I followed it. I was sometimes shocked and at other times wondered if it would break her strong will to get her son back. Life is strange and so are people-friends and enemies. Tim Adler, this was a well-written book.

I Needed Kindle to Finish This Book
The police procedural chapters were interesting, and I enjoyed the characters, setting, dialogue, etc. However, after listening to several chapters about the victim's girlfriend, I could no longer listen to the Audible version--at any speed. At first I sympathized with her predicament, but as more unpleasant facts about the victim came to the fore, she began to sound more like a whinging, pathetic pity-poor-me character. I switched to Kindle so I might skim/skip/speed through her chapters. As soon as the police procedural resumed, I switched to Audible. Without Kindle I could not have finished this book. That said, I may try other books in this series
    Getting better at story telling
Would you consider the audio edition of Beneath the Ashes to be better than the print version?
This is my second Jane Isaac's and I liked it. I have not read the printed version but the audible version was worth the money
What about Tim Bruces performance did you like?
Yes. I thought Tim's subtle use of inflection for some of the characters was useful
    Any additional comments?
Jane has got a better handle on her prime character and it shows. The descriptions are clearer and there's just the right balance between information and imagination

Implausible And Difficult To Maintain Interest
Would you try another book written by Matthew Reilly or narrated by Sean Mangan?
I've listened to other Scarecrow novels in the past but this one is puerile.
What was most disappointing about Matthew Reillys story?
It is just not worth the credit.
What three words best describe Sean Mangans voice?
    Did well given the plot.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
This book is divided into several 'Phases' the last one being the best as this is where the plot weariness ended.
    Scarecrow is back!
I remeber picking up Ice station years ago, not knowing anything about the author. I was hooked instantly. Never before had I read such an action novel, with the pace of the story growing more intense on every page. In my mind, no book will ever come close to Ice station, regarding fast, thrilling action.
Army of thieves was a little more down to earth (if such an expression can be used for any book starring Scarecrow) and the story was enjoyable, actionpacked and just what I was hoping for. But my regret is listening to the audiobook instead of actually reading the book. When reading Ice station, i remember reading at an increased pace when there was an abundance of action, turning pages like there was no tomorrow, feeling as I was a part of that action myself. Here, Sean Mangan - although he does a great job and I enjoyed listening to his voice - carries on at the same pace throughout the audiobook, no matter how intense the action.
Of course this is understandable, had he shouted and read really fast as I did when reading Ice station, it would probably have been really awkward and horrible.
But then again, maybe that is just what this audiobook would have needed...
