    To Kiss a Spy
I only got about 3-4 chapters in & I nearly fell asleep. The narrator spoke so slowly & softly I started to drift off. I was tempted to speed up the pace!
I enjoyed the 1st book in the trilogy, but I think Id enjoy this one more if I read it in text form.

Pick a different Stephen Bly book
We have listened to many Stephen Bly books and enjoyed them, but this one did not ever gain our interest. The narrator is very uninteresting and ready in a very choppy way.

I am anxiously waiting for the next book of the
series to follow the plot. l loved the narator and would like to see kendru's story next. I think kendu's sister is the stongest female of the three and can t.o
    be last.
    Amazing!!! Should be a movie.
This book is so well written. The author articulates her thoughts vibrantly and beautifully. Unbelievable descriptive details allow you to visualize in your mind's eye a mystical and magical glen in the Scottish highlands. Filled with fantasy, passion, romance, and highland honor. With playful interludes between leading characters, James and Catriona, then scorching heat sizzling between these two, you fall in love with them. Neither one willing to admit how they feel, yet they can't take their eyes off each other. The minute they see one another, passion ignites and your own heart thumps louder. That is how powerfully moving this story is. Filled with anticipation and unexpected surprises throughout. Everything is connected and brought to an enthralling, climactic moment, bringing tears of joy to my eyes. This story is utterly amazing. Sue-Ellen Welfonder has an incredible talent. This should be made into a movie. Narrator Jill Tanner performed the characters very well.
    A must read.
    Fantastic Story + Narrator
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The story is full of Highlanders, magic, mystery and of course romance. James and Catriona were a fantastic couple and they had a great supporting cast of characters. My favorite character had to be the old dogs of James and Alasdair. I enjoyed the scowls, muttered oaths, dark looks, fisted hands on hips from James. He was a gruff one and I enjoyed every bit of it. Also, Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a fantastic author and her stories have a way of drawing the reader (or listener) in. The narrator, Jill Tanner was awesome as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My only disappointment is that the other two books are not on audiobook.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sins of a Highland Devil?
The battle scene (I can not to go into detail without giving spoilers).
    Which scene was your favorite?
When James was in the hall giving his speech and Catriona walked in and threw down the gauntlet.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES. I listened to it in less than a day.
    Any additional comments?
    MORE SUE-ELLEN WELFONDER PLEASE!!!

    Publisher's Summary:
In Flannery O'Connor's hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia, reckless relationships lead to a tragedy that forever alters the town and the author herself.
Crippled by lupus at 25, celebrated author Flannery O'Connor was forced to leave New York City and return home to Andalusia, her family farm in Milledgeville, Georgia. Years later, as Flannery is finishing a novel and tending to her menagerie of peacocks, her mother drags her to the wedding of a family friend.
Cookie Himmel embodies every facet of Southern womanhood that Flannery lacks: she is revered for her beauty and grace; she is at the helm of every ladies' organization in town; and she has returned from her time in Manhattan with a rich fiancé, Melvin Whiteson. Melvin has come to Milledgeville to begin a new chapter in his life, but it is not until he meets Flannery that he starts to take a good hard look at the choices he has made. Despite the limitations of her disease, Flannery seems to be more alive than other people, and Melvin is drawn to her like a moth to a candle flame.
Melvin is not the only person in Milledgeville who starts to feel that life is passing him by. Lona Waters, the dutiful wife of a local policeman, is hired by Cookie to help create a perfect home. As Lona spends her days sewing curtains, she is given an opportunity to remember what it feels like to be truly alive, and she seizes it with both hands.
Heartbreakingly beautiful and inescapably human, these ordinary and extraordinary people chart their own courses through life. In the aftermath of one tragic afternoon, they are all forced to look at themselves and face up to Flannery's observation that "The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it."

    Fiction or Documentary
After I read this book, I was surprised to learn that Flannery O'Connor actually lived and proved to be an accomplished writer (sorry for my poor education). Reading "A Good Hard Look: A Novel" which touched among other characters a year of Ms. O'Connor's life, I was constantly feeling lost: I could never predict the future of a character (any character), nor find anything in the character's past which would indicated their current behavior. The events seemed to be mysticized without apparent reason and author required the reader guessing about what turned to be expected.
I do not know how well Ms. Napolitano researched the time, place and the characters of her book, but I did not feel any specificity: until the very end I could not tell what decade the events were unfolding and what was specific to the place.
The narrator, Ms. Debra Monk, did a superb job in my opinion, her voice was clear and filled with feelings reflecting what proved to be I would miss from the text itself.

Length: 12 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-09-11
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 49 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
Caleb Cheeshateaumauk was the first native American to graduate from Harvard College back in 1665. Caleb's Crossing gives voice to his little known story. Caleb, a Wampanoag from the island of Martha's Vineyard, seven miles off the coast of Massachusetts, comes of age just as the first generation of Indians come into contact with English settlers, who have fled there, desperate to escape the brutal and doctrinaire Puritanism of the Massachusetts Bay colony. The story is told through the eyes of Bethia, daughter of the English minister who educates Caleb in the Latin and Greek he needs in order to enter the college. As Caleb makes the crossing into white culture, Bethia, 14 years old at the novel's opening, finds herself pulled in the opposite direction. Trapped by the narrow strictures of her faith and her gender, she seeks connections with Caleb's world that will challenge her beliefs and set her at odds with her community.

    Caleb's Crossing a Challenge
As an avid book reader, this presentation convinced me that I would probably not have finished the written version. Ms Ehle's concise rendition put me right there in that time zone and I could visualise the characters. She glided over the intense scholarly references and Latin quotations, which I might have baulked at, with ease, so that combined with Ms Brooks's writing technique, I became totally immersed right to the end. How interesting that the one review I read was a total contradiction of this view.
Superb story and an exceptional presenter
I came to know Geraldine Brooks' works when I had an extended stay in hospital some years ago. I came to know her as a gifted author with a rare gift for bringing history to life. In that same time I have become an Audible fan. I love the overall quality of the presentations I have heard. I note that two of Geraldine's books still are not available in audio formats, I hope that will be rectified soon.
I was excited to see the new book. I had no inkling at the beginning of what poor Caleb was crossing. I became immersed in the characters particularly Bethenie. I was fascinated by the tales of a very new Harvard - how could anyone then have foreseen what was to become one of the pre-eminent universities in the world. Learning about schooling in a hard land, the place of women, the struggle of life in a hard land for which the characters were not always equipped.
Through the story written by Brooks and narrated with a fine sense of the place of people throughout - excellent.
Jennifer Ehle made this story for me. The timbre, the overall quality of her voice and her timing as interwoven stories developed and reached their quite appropriate end, made me sad to be coming to the end of this story. Geraldine Brooks used old English and manufactures native indian language from one or more tribes - if I read this I would stumble. Jennifer Ehle nails the language structures gracefully. These language twists and turns a a very fascinating part of the overall story. And I have since completing the book gone a read-up on the early history of a great university.
    Enjoy this one!
An insight into a previously unknown history
What made the experience of listening to Caleb's Crossing the most enjoyable?
This novel introduced a part of history that had been unknown to me prior to listening to this recording.

The rumor is that he is the son of the greatest detective of all time. And the truth of his mysterious legacy may come to light as he attempts to solve the baffling murder of an intelligence agent and uncover an ingenious act of sabotage....
    Critic Reviews:
    [A] master yarn spinner. (Booklist)
A gifted writer with a distinctive voice. I read him with great pleasure. (Richard North Patterson)
Raymond Chandler once wrote that the test of a first-rate murder mystery is whether you would keep reading it if the last chapter - and the revelation of whodunit - were missing. In the matter of John Lescroart, I would keep reading any of his books, even without that last chapter. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
    Members Reviews:
    VERY DISAPPOINTING
I love Lescroart's stuff, his Dismas Hardy "legal mysteries", and he is perhaps the best of this genre. But, here he tries to write a Hemingway-esque piece and it doesn't work. I tried and tried to finish this one but I couldn't. Maybe if he tried to put Dismas in Spain? Ah, forget it.

    The Dragon's Bride
The plot was not bad. But, the narrator absolutely grated on me. It was not the accent, but the lack of emotion. I fast forwarded to the end because I couldn't take it any more. I will be on the look out not to purchase anything narrated by Simon Prebble again.

    Publisher's Summary:
With Bliss, Remembered, the celebrated Frank Deford has produced a work of literature that ranks with the best of his many novels, including Everybodys All American, which Sports Illustrated ranked as one of the 25 best sports books of all time. In Bliss, Remembered, Deford explores new territory as he tells two love stories from the perspective of a beautiful should-have-been Olympic champion named Sydney Stringfellow.
At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Sydney begins an intense love affair with a German, but the affair abruptly ends when political forces tear them apart. Back in the US, Sydneydaring, vulnerable, and memorableis left healing her broken heart when a striking American begins to pursue her. In Defords tender novel, the simplicity and honesty of choices of the heart clash with a brutal timea time when choices seemed so dire in the enveloping shadows of a changing world.
    Critic Reviews:
This is a poignant story, utterly charming and enjoyable. (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Not Frank Deford's best work
This is a light, entertaining novel without a lot of depth. It has a nice twist at the end, which, unfortunately, is predictable 50 pages out. The book is written from the point of view of a son hearing his mother tell part of her life story, so it is almost all dialogue, most of which is phrased in a way that simply does not sound realistic to the reader's ears. In brief, the central character of the story is an Olympic caliber swimmer from the 1930s whose story is told against a real historic background, with several real historic figures for window dressing. But despite the setting, the tale largely fails the test of credibility. I enjoyed it as a quick, amusing read but not for much else. Frank Deford has written better than this.
An Excellent World War II Novel
BLISS, REMEMBERED is a love story combining the Olympics with the situation in Europe during World War II. The ending is surprising and beautiful! This was the best book I read in 2012!
A real page turner with interesting twists!
This was one of the most interesting novels I have read in years. It is not about sports. It is about people and their lives. A real page turner with some interesting twists. I liked it so much I have bought it for other members of my family.
    great semi historical novel!
I loved this novel. I learned a lot about the lives of people during the Depression and right before the Second World War. The characters, especially Sydney, were realistic and appealing....it is a fun read for any age group!
The best book I've read in years
I loved everything about this book. It's one of those books that you never want to end. Immediately upon finishing it, I emailed all of my girlfriends and told them they must read it! Something about the way the story is told....by the woman who lived it to her grown son...it just touched me! And I felt as if I was there, at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and falling in love myself! Truly Blissful!!!
