    A fun fast read
This book has colorful examples of writing from days gone by. The satire, ironies, and peculiar circumstances are expressed by master humorists from times when humor still a craft. Bret Harte's ' The Stolen Cigar Case " is a real pleasure from a true master. But all the stories have their own unique twists and clever charm.

    Interesting concept
I bought this e-book for my grand-daughter who is twenty-three, but it turned out that it was my grandson who really got into it and started sharing the plot and characters with me. Before long, though this in not my usual genre at all, I began to read. Thaniel the hero and Chase the Zombie child have a lot in common. They seem to both be miss-placed spirits and as the book progresses I began looking at it from a spiritual direction. After all there were abandonment, judgment, patience and lessons in life that they were both trying to learn. It is a book written for the YA, perhaps Dystopian genre? I had difficulty giving it 5 stars, but my grandson insisted he knew more about these kind of books than I, and it HAD been a shared experience. I would have given it 4, which means "I like it!" Hats off to you Mr. Daniel, you got an old dog to try new things!
    Great Book
After reading this book I'm clearly convinced we're all monsters. Steven Daniel has done a marvelous job of creating witty characters, while humanizing the inhuman. Awesome book.
    Loved It!
I loved this book! Want to read more about the neighbors.
    Fantastic Imagination!
I downloaded this book for free & SCORE! It was well written, imaginative, and it has an awesome plot.
    simplified
the writing was for a young child, there was no point of interest it was plain and had no meat .

    Hilarious
We laughed several times as we listened to this story. Author uses unexpected figurative language and outright ridiculous situations for portraying humor.
    LOVED IT! WHAT A TONIC!
I started this one day when I was feeling sorry for myself because I had a stinking cold. I thought I would listen to one of my Audio Books rather than read and Im so glad I did.
What a corker of a story this is. I have never laughed so much and just fell in love with all the characters. There are so many memorable moments in this book which I still chuckle at when I think of them. It is narrated my Melanie Crawley who does a fantastic job bringing all the characters to life.
I would definitely recommend this book and shall look forward to more antics from Gretyl and her crew. Please write another Si Page.
    Fun but thoughtful
A fun story that comes to life with this narrator. It has thoughtful moments. Gretyls husband usually being the one who brings those moments about. Not Gretyl herself, who is a rather annoying and irritating! All part of the story mind!
To me this is an updated fun book with a reminder of Tom Sharpe back in the day.
Def worth listening to or reading.
    This book is Funny
Would you listen to Missing Gretyl again? Why?
I loved this book, I loved the variety of characters and their antics, I loved the story, This book kept me amused the whole way through, Just reading the title make me smile thinking about it, its a pretty down to earth plot about a nagging wife who receives a inheritance and goes on holiday to Spain......but then agin its not,
What was one of the most memorable moments of Missing Gretyl?
I tried to think of 1 most memorable moment, but there are just too many and if I tried to explain them here I would just sound a little odd, but regardless I would love to read more books like this one, theres just not enough GOOD humour around.
What does Melanie Crawley bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
I think Melanie Crawley did a fantastic job of narrating this book, she bought all the characters to life for me.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me laugh..........really laugh!!
    Any additional comments?
I would compare this book to the best of Tom Sharpe maybe even better
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish!
Would you consider the audio edition of Missing Gretyl to be better than the print version?
The audible version was perfect, so much so I have bought the book so I can compare and contrast both the audio and the written work in the near future.

In a town where people would happily kill anyone for a part, what would they do for a gilded Arthur statuette?

This is hard core gay porn
If this book wasnt for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
It would have been wise for Audible to reference the fact that every chapter includes very explicit gay porn, in the description. I can handle some gay sex but I didn't chose to buy a book that meant I had to brace myself for it every chapter. Some chapters are particularly troubling.

Kelly Killjoy is a gun-slinging mercenary and skin flick scream queen on an endless quest for adventure, cash, and a good hard fight in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
    Fallout Girl (episode 1)
After a gang of cannibal marauders raid the local video store, she decides to infiltrate their group in order to steal back the stack of trashy movies. To join up she's going to have to show her loyalty on the battlefield and in the bedroom. If that wasn't enough, there happens to be a cult of all-male monsters who need a fertile woman to help replenish their numbers.
    Straight to Video (episode 2)
The crazy kids at the Pearl Theatre pay the bills by screening their collection of B-movies and shooting a few rowdy sex flicks of their own. Life is good for everybody, until Kelly's jilted ex-lover Grinder shows up, and he happens to be the warlord of a marauder gang known as the Rust Devils. Faced with what could be her last stand, Kelly decides it is time to finally get it on with the mild-mannered mutant who might be packing more heat than even she can handle.
    Freak Legion (episode 3)
With the Pearl Theatre in shambles, Kelly has taken work as a goat-smuggler, until she runs across her old boss Fingers the Clown and takes a particularly steamy trip down memory lane. His wasteland circus is having a bloody territorial dispute with another freak show, and he needs Kelly's gift for violence to even the odds. Before the curtains close Kelly dubiously beats a few locals in a game of cards and is forced to spend a harrowing night locked in the stocks at the center of town, where she is alone, exposed, and at the mercy of bad men.
Also includes Lady Wasteland (episode 4) and Frankenstein (episode 5).

Ok first off, this one is NOT for the kiddies... bit of an understatement, but whatever :) If you like extremely naughty, down n dirty um, procreation, you'll LOVE this book. For me, it combined two of my great loves, kink and apocalyptia, so it was near perfect. My only problem is that I've finished it, and there's not another! Oh, and just in case Ms. Close reads this, your cover model is gorgeous. Also your book was pretty well edited, and considering the subject matter, the fact someone could concentrate well enough to edit this well deserves kudos (I'm usually a grammar Nazi so that says alot about alot LOL)
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ADULTS ONLY
    Five Stars
Writing is a little rough but a great story.
    Four Stars
Female eroticism is a dystopian world. Very engaging read
    A Reading the Paranormal Review
Holy smokes, this one was fun. And by fun I mean dark and brutal with plenty of sexy times. Kelly Killjoy doesn't pull her punches. Or wear her underwear. Which makes for a rollicking good time.
Fallout Girl: You had me at "Cannibal Psychos", Amanda Close. Kelly Killjoy has found a way to survive and thrive in this harsh apocalyptic wasteland and she's giving it her all. From boning the cannibal leader to sexy, naughty times in a mineshaft with a bunch of dwarfs, Kelly gives all her sexy-time activities her all.
Straight to Video: Sexy times before a hard, violent battle is just what a girl needs to get her blood flowing. At least that's what happens to Kelly Killjoy. As an added bonus, she gets to try out the oversized mutant who works in the theatre.

    Release date: 12-23-16
    Publisher: Thomas Lambert
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Humor
    Publisher's Summary:
It has been 105 years since writer Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, took his final breath.
But, nearly identical in appearance, personality, and authentic dress, you would think he was sitting in Tom's living room today - a traveler brought here through some freak accident involving time and space.
You see, Tom has managed to inherit a most unusual houseguest. Not a doting relative or an old friend but a stranger who claims to be Mark Twain himself - a man who looks and acts the part, down to his dry wit and dramatic panache. One whom Tom knows by the name "Earl"...for reasons he'll get into later.
As the two men get to know each other over the course of eye-opening conversations and humorous insights about the world, an unexpected friendship emerges - while Tom struggles to discover the origins of the mysterious guest once and for all.
But when the truth gets a little too close for comfort, Tom must decide whether he wants to keep up the relentless search for the man's real identity...or simply relax and enjoy the (supposed) presence of one of history's greatest literary icons.
    Members Reviews:
    What a fun read!
Would you listen to Living with Earl again? Why?
Probably not, not because the book isn't good, but because I don't re-read or re-listen to books...so many out there that I want to explore, but is it worth a second listen? Sure is!
What other book might you compare Living with Earl to and why?
I don't know that there IS a comparison. Living with Earl is unique.
Which character as performed by Brian Schell was your favorite?
Hard to choose between Earl and Tom. Both are great, believable, characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I can't say there is a single moment that moved me. The stories are sometime funny, sometimes a little sad, and all written so well. Good job, Tom!
    Any additional comments?
The narrator was a perfect choice for this book.
NOTE: The audio version of this book was provided to me by the author for review.
    Fun!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this--it's more like a series of vignettes, I guess, than a traditional story. At times it was like listening to funny conversations between your crazy uncles, and at other times it was like listening to annoying lectures from that one grouchy uncle who thinks he knows better than everyone else. Always enjoyable, though.
    Splendid entertainment!
Hours and hours of thought-provoking laughs. I am a huge fan of Mark Twain, and clearly the author is as well. Descriptions of the mysterious visitor Earl were so well-written I could SEE him leaning thoughtfully back in his chair and SMELL those delicious puffs of cigar smoke that accompanied so many of his clever observations. Can't wait for the sequel - at least I really hope there will be more!

Should self-confessed teachers be allowed out into society?

The constant ramblings distracted me from the stor
There are few review about this one but they are in general extremely positive. Somehow I expected to enjoy this audiobook much more than I did. For starts, there is changing POV's, completely unannounced. The story is told by the two sisters, who see the whole mystery and family affairs in a very different light. The book is written in a humorous tone, but the constant ramblings of both sisters got me tired really fast. I also found the book frivolous and very judgemental, and the adjective fat is often used as pejorative.
There is a completely lack of descriptions, but even like that the action is very slow, since it is constantly interrupted by numerous and unrelated ramblings. I found it very distracting and I kept zoning out throughout the book.
Claire M. James narration was good, but she made no difference between both sister's voices, which made more the story more difficult to follow. She also used a super theatrical tone, overdoing the characters' interpretations, that went well with the book, but was really tiring for me.
I finished this book because I was curious of the outcome, but sadly, it's not one that I would recommend.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by J.P. Wright. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
    *4.5 Roses*
    What a fun story!
This story opens in a picturesque murder house mystery, and a rather grumpy girl who doesn't want to deal with any of it, because she's got an assignment to finish. Instead, mysteries and questions pop up all around her, and she's only got a couple hours to answer them all.
Reminiscent of early Nancy Drew amateur sleuth novels, mixed in with a younger sense of humor and sense of innocence in a big world. The characters were all colorful and endearing, and the story was constructed very well, with a flow that kept a steady momentum toward the ending. I enjoyed the overall mystery of the cake and the dog, and the humor surrounding the entire debacle.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the audiobook version of this story, and found it very entertaining. My only complaint comes from this though, as the narrator seemed slightly mature for the character and plot she was working with. While she did a wonderful job, I think there was probably a better voice to fit Violet and her entertaining weekend. As is, it was still done very well, and I enjoyed listening to the story unfold.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in it - I doubt you'll be disappointed.

    Fowl things are afoot!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
A wandering, fabulist tale of heists, gold-covered cars, a head in a box, stealing KFC's recipe amid an array of colorful characters from Mad Rose to Bill Murray. Leading to the answer to the question of why the chicken crossed the road!!
It's a wonderful tale to listen to, easier to listen to than read & follow this collection of tall tales.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Definitely laughed!
    A Birdbrained Scheme
Why did the chicken cross the road? Colonel Sanders, Bill Murray, and a whole host of dimwitted crooks all have their parts to play in answering that question.
Told as a retrospective by an unnamed narrator, Birdbrain tells the story of a heist (or two) gone wrong. Following the classic heist storyline, Jim Yoakum shows what would happen if you were to recruit a group of loudmouth drunken idiots at a bar and actually put them in a heist.
The characters play out as self-parodies of the typical roles, sufficiently proficient in one specific area, but so deeply lacking in the basest of common sense that it's a wonder they've made it thus far through life.
Seasoned with plenty of useless trivia, amusing conspiracy theories, and convoluted and mondegreened urban legends, Birdbrain is one book that you won't want to put down.
A crazy story with good narrative and storytelling
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. This is a great story that keeps the listener engaged in the story and introducing details and events that keep the narrative moving
What was one of the most memorable moments of Birdbrain?
Without giving anything away, the story evolved from a simple event to a crazy, out of control situation, but all told amazingly well
What about Owen Dalys performance did you like?
The voices he used for all the different characters were well done and easy to distinguish
Who was the most memorable character of Birdbrain and why?
The narrator, mostly because he was not named, I thought it was a fight-club situation where he was Baltimore

The slightly ridiculous tragicomic odyssey of Joe Perk, a young Jewish man who doesn't know it; a man alone: inarticulate, simple-hearted and naive. Along the way Joe stumbles in and out of the lives of Cliff, his cruel half-brother; Miguel, a farmhand with a secret coffee bean; Cappuccino, the lovely coffee shop owner in trouble; Lou, the diner-owner with dyslexia; Graydon Froth, the evil CEO of Big Brew coffee; Macchiato, reigning barista champ - and Shakes, the mysterious homeless man who imparts to Joe the knowledge of "The Way of the Bean": the cosmic java force that can give Joe the power needed to make him a coffee-making superstar.

Laughed so hard, coffee came out my nose!
I must admit, books on tape have never been my cup of tea -- but then again, neither has tea.
This, though, this is coffee! And like Joe Perk, the well-intentioned, unassuming hero of this delightful caffeinated tale, author Jim Yoakum really knows how to serve it up!
It's the story of good versus evil, a pure cup versus the corporate corrupt, a modern day David and Goliath. With a twist!
The story percolates, the aroma permeates, and suspense follows close on the heels of Joe's innocence as he feels his way into the great unknown. From working the ground on the failing family farm (and his failing family) in rural Oklahoma to working 'the grounds' as he vies for the coveted title of Barista Champ at the big competition in the Big Apple. Will Joe Perk succeed, or will his own naivety nix all his hopes and dreams? The latter I would say, in all probability!
The complexity of the characters, like their very names (Cappuccino, Macchiato, Froth, Shakes, Joe Perk) seem to evoke the essence of the coffee bean. Some are bold, intense and robust, others smooth and more balanced. And then there's the sweet and refined. (Will Joe mess up his chances with her?!) It's a path and plot unpredictable, and sure to awaken the senses at every step of the way.
The author is well versed in the coffee culture and uses its vernacular to great comic effect and timing. From the story's slightly bitter first impressions (Can you taste that, at the tip of the tongue?) to its nice smooth finish (Yes, that's right, back of the tongue, on the pallet!) you'll find yourself laughing out loud throughout. I know I did!
I look forward to more of Jim Yoakum's books on tape as, great thing is, they're all "digital" these days! So no more stretching out that narrow tape from its cartridge, holding it up to the light and trying to read the words. I could never see 'em! Special kudos goes out to Tim Halligan, narrator of Joe Perk, for reading the tape to me!
Elevates coffee comedy to a new level
Ridicules Starbucks, reality shows and more all at the same time. Tim halligan provides a brilliant narration. A wonderfully rich and captivating voice that delivers multiple characters and will leave you laughing many times throughout the story. I truly enjoyed listening to this story and got some strange looks sitting in the car alone laughing as I drive down the highway. Highly recommend this story to anyone who wants a light chuckle.
