    Insightful encouragement
Insightful encouragement,so many nuggets. Definitely will reread this book again. Learning that know one life is prefect but a work of art when it's turn over to God,. Helps me to continue to go forward
    Such a blessing!
This book blessed me beyond what I would have expected it to! Thank you God!
    Awesome Insights!
The depth of insights and leadership of the Giants of the Faith was amazing. So many good points to think on, ponder, and apply. I'll be returning to this book many times.
To me the narrator at times got almost whiny. There was often no real passion or conviction in his voice. I viewed it as being a neutral reader but drove my spouse crazy.
Not my favorite John Maxwell book
Very imaginative story, but I prefer John Maxwell ' s non-fiction books that cover biblical approaches to personal development and business. Consequently, this book was a little difficult to finish.

    Publisher's Summary:
A Personal Growth Finalist in the 2004 Word Guild Canadian Writing Awards!
"Only God deserves absolute surrender because only God can offer absolutely dependable love." In our self-reliant era, most of us recoil from the concept of surrendering to a power or authority outside ourselves. But surrender need not be seen as threatening, especially when the One to whom we surrender is the epitome of goodness and love. God doesn't want his people to respond to him out of fear or obligation. Rather, he invites us to enter into an authentic relationship of intimacy and devotion. And so God calls us to move beyond mere obedience - by surrendering to love.
In this profound audiobook, David Benner explores the twin themes of love and surrender as the heart of Christian spirituality. Through careful examination of Scripture and reflection on the Christian tradition, Benner shows how God bids us to trust fully in his perfect love. Writing with mature wisdom gleaned from many years of integrating psychological and spiritual insight, Benner demonstrates keen perception and sensitivity to the realities of spiritual formation. In each chapter he includes meditative exercises to guide you into a greater experience of trust and spiritual transformation. God is love, and he intends for you to live in his love. Surrender to Love will lead you to an unexpected place, where yieldedness to God frees you to become who he created you to be.

    Just what I needed.
Beautiful book - Life changing. So blessed it found me. Thank you DG Benner for sharing it.
    Great book, highly recommended!
This is a short, insightful, powerful book that helps reframe how many of us might look at our Christian journey - all about the transformative power of God's love.
Deep understanding of what it means to know God
Benner pinpoints the the core of Christian spirituality: drinking deep from the fountain of God's love. This is an answer that I would not have accepted when younger. But time and suffering open our eyes to realities previously unseen. Wholeheartedly recommended. And if it doesn't work for you the first time, live and suffer, and then return. This is a book for those who've been through deep waters.

    Excellent book, well written.
    1) u will immediately realize how communism & God can not mix.
    2) shows big picture. Although we disagree about small things concerning God, love is above all.
    3) we (USA) are spoiled with freedom. Don't take it for granted seek to help those those w/o our freedoms find God & the messiah.
to love Christ and make him know .
It was a powerful book that left me better understanding the love that Christ has for all people.
    Wow.
A very stirring account the horrors of communism and the plight of the persecuted church at large. Reading this book has caused me to examine myself and consider all of my daily freedom's that I take for granted. I have been reminded of what the Bible says about one member suffering and how we all suffer and are bound together as one.
    WOW
What a powerful book, it needs to be listened to by every believer. We need to pray for persecuted believers and help in any way we can. We must also commit ourselves to boldly proclaiming the glorious gospel of Jesus.
    Troubled
One can not comprehend the wickedness of the unsaved world and how that satanic evil is directed against those who love God and wish only to share that love with those who torture them.

    Firey Dart Protection
Would you consider the audio edition of The Armor of God to be better than the print version?
I don't know the print version
What did you like best about this story?
Each element of the armor is divided into its own message. Skip does a great job describing what Paul was likening the armor that he saw on the Roman guards to the Spiritual Armor that we must put on. Some we carry by our side, some we use to protect us from certain attacks, some we just use for defensive purposes. We must be ready and also must remember we are in a war that is fought on our knees in prayer and supplication as well as having the means to stand firm.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
My particular message was the one of the broad shield of Faith. In my own life, God has delivered me from a pornography addiction that began when I was 13 and ended when I was 36. For 23 years I disqualified myself when I would speak to others about my Christian Faith, of which I accepted Christ at 18. On Jan 31, 2013, God delivered me from the desires, wants, and compulsions to view pornography. Whenever I am tempted or the thought enters my mind: If I call it what it is-- a Firey Dart-- It is extinguished; the thought is captivated and made subject to Christ. The description of how the shield looked and was made ready for battle just emphasizes how Faith extinguishes the thoughts that would seek to cripple and maim.
    Any additional comments?
This is a great sermon series. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for the reminders that the Spirit who dwells within you is greater than he who is in the world. Skip's delivery is clear; you will want to listen to these messages again and again.
This is awesome, everyone should read!
I learn something new each time I hear it. it's great! everyone should hear it.
    Absolutely incredible!!!
The wisdom Pastor Skip uses to explain Gods truth is simply amazing...there are a lot of amazing Bible teachers out there, Skip is definitely one of the best. This series IS foundational to your Christian walk and will help you fall more in love with Him who gave everything for you!
    A timeless message
Tremendous truth delivered in a clear and inspiring way. I have my armor on and standing fast!
A Must Read Book for God's People!

    Publisher's Summary:
Have you ever wanted to know the scriptures like the back of your hand? How would you like to be able to quote any scripture off the top of your head when you need it most?
There are many techniques that are available for memorizing today. However, some of these may be more hype than practical. Although they may provide an interesting read, when it comes time for practical application, those techniques tend to be a dud. There are methods, however, which have been perfected over thousands of years. Utilizing these methods there are many people who have memorized entire books word for word.
In this book you will discover a real working method that will propel your ability to recall scripture like you never thought possible. This method is a very simple 5 step process that will help you increase your knowledge of the scriptures like never before. How to memorize the bible quick and easy in 5 simple steps was written by a preacher who has memorized entire epistles and books word for word throughout the bible. In this book he will outline the exact 5 step method he has used.

I have started learning how to memorize scripture thanks to this book. I reccomend it.
    IAWESOME
i love all of Adam Houge books. Very easy to read and understand. Keep them coming Adam as the Holy Spirit leads you. May God continue to bless you and keep you and your family.
    Excellent guide to Bible memorization
This was my second Adam Houge book and it was well worth the price.
It is as valuable for what it tells you to do as it is for what it tells you not to do. Houge reviews various memorization methods and explains to the listener why some methods are somewhat useful, other methods are more useful, and some others (used in other religions) are virtually useless for attempting to memorize God's Word. This good, better, and best approach helped me to filter out some of the less useful methods and focus on what works.
I just finished reading it, so I can't say that I've put it into practice, yet, but Bible memorization is a goal of mine, and I can't wait to try out his methods because they make a lot of sense to me.
    No application, just methods
I thought this would teach you some verses. But it's just telling you to pick a designated quiet spot in your home, make sure you're not tired so drink coffee, ask the Lord for help and then memorize. No application. Sad.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 49 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Full of sensitive pastoral advice and shot through with arresting and illuminating theological insights, Rowan Williams new book explores the meaning and practice of four essential components of the Christian life: baptism, Bible, Eucharist and prayer.
This book is an invitation to everyone to think through the essentials of the faith and how to live it, making it an ideal gift for anyone at the start of their spiritual journey or thinking about confirmation. It is designed for use by individuals or groups, with questions for reflection or discussion at the end of each chapter.
Written by The Right Reverend Rowan Douglas Williams, Baron Williams of Oystermouth PC DD FBA FRSL FLSW, an Anglican prelate, theologian and poet. Williams was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, Metropolitan of the Province of Canterbury and Primate of All England, from December 2002 to December 2012, and was previously Bishop of Monmouth and Archbishop of Wales.
    Critic Reviews:
"It is a privilege to enter into the mind of one of the most distinguished theologians of the modern age. Being Christian deals in matters that are necessarily complex, but the style is elegant and lucid, and the book, although written primarily for Christians, will be interesting and helpful to those who are seekers after, rather than finders of, religious faith." (PD James)
"Christianity is both simple and profound. Rowan Williams understands these two levels, and how we come to the depth of what Jesus is by the simplicities of informed Christian practice. This is a handbook for Christian living." (Sister Wendy Beckett)
    Members Reviews:
Quick look at four universal Christian practices.
Many people have a lot of respect for Rowan Williams. He was the Archbishop of Canterbury for 10 years before retiring 3 years ago. He is still fairly young (64) and he is still publishing a ton. So I keep meaning to read some of his books. This one I picked up free with some promotional credit from Audible.
Being Christian was originally a series of Holy Week lectures that was adapted into a short book. The focus is on four pretty much universal practices among Christians, regardless of theological stream or denomination.
Considering the short length and the ubiquitousness of the practices, it would have been easy to be filled with clichés. But Williams both stayed true to the essence of the practices and brought unique presentation to them so the book did not feel stale.
The chapter on prayer seems to be the one that is most mentioned in other reviews that I read. As with several other books I have read this year, Williams spent some time talking about three of the early church fathers and how they thought about prayer.
Modern Evangelicals seem to be praise focused spontaneous prayer times and more liturgically focused Christians can tend to talk about the form or beauty of prayer. But Williams encourages us to think more about prayer as our center contact with God and as such it should be frequent and brief. And when we inevitably get distracted by life, saying, O God, make speed to save me is part of long Christian practice. Because of his look at prayer historically he does not get wrapped up with any tension between written or spontaneous prayer.

He breaks down several of the miracles that Jesus is produced, and demonstrates miracles within our lifetime that have had similar attributes!

Beginning with this confession, pastor and spiritual director Alan Fadling goes on to describe his journey out of the fast lane and into the rhythms of Jesus. Following the framework of Jesus' earthly life, Fadling shows how the work of "unhurrying" ourselves is central to our spiritual development in such pivotal areas as resisting temptation, caring for others, praying and making disciples. Here is a book that affirms that we are called to work and to do work. Productivity is not a sin - it is the attitudes behind our work that can be our undoing. So how do we find balance between our sense of calling and the call to rest? An Unhurried Life offers a way.

I will have to read, highlight, and note the text of the book along with this audio in order to soak it all in. It was a wealth of information on how to slow down and what to prune spiritually. It is challenging many people that I know who are in ministry to be present for the opportunity to be God's hands and feet.
    Exceptional! Desperately needed message...

This classic Eastern Orthodox commentary on the Gospel of Matthew was written in about the year 1100 A.D. by Theophylact of Bulgaria, a brilliant and saintly Byzantine churchman. Blessed Theophylact distills the teaching of the early Church Fathers, especially St. John Chrysostom, in language that is profound, powerful, and direct. His commentary has remained a primary text on New Testament interpretation throughout the Christian East. Translated from the original Greek text.
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent. Enriching. Nourishing.
I was very blessed by this book. Certainly one to listen to multiple times. Glory to Jesus Christ.
    Brilliant, except...
It actually appears to accuse the Mother of God of vain glory in the passage where the Mother and step brothers of Jesus send Him a message that they wish to speak to Him! I hope I am completely wrong, please correct me if I am. Truly I have no wish to be right about such a thing. The narrator did excellent work
There you have it, a thousand years new
Concise and terse sentences, absolute authority and persuasiveness. It says so much with so little- a stark contrast to mainline protestant commentaries which say so little with so unnecessarily much.
I resisted this recording for a long time-indeed what could it have to offer being written so long ago while there are an abundance of Gospel commentaries available? Well, apparently almost every single theological question I formulated during bible study classes and sunday liturgies are answered here. To say something is as relevant today as it was a thousand years ago is a cliche, but in this case it is true. The narrator does an excellent job with his calm seemingly monotonous reading, a book like this has a kind of sanctity that any kind of emotional reading would ruin.
    Excellent doesn't describe it entirely.
I learned a lot about what the Bible says in greater context, which is a huge benefit.
    Enlightening
Knowledge of the early fathers. Provides us the commentary for the Gospel of Matthew. A must have.

A Book I'd Read Again and Again!
This book is a farely easy read yet has much depth. I not only enjoyed the content but found myself being reminded of how and why I am to LOVE and interact with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I found myself and encouraged all the more in my walk. Chapters 10 on through the very last page was so encouraging and insightful. Chapters 11 and 12, I probably listened to it about three or four times. Points that I walked away with:
"Marks of a mature Christians is to forgive and absorb any offenses thrown our way and to allow any rebuttals or retaliation to fall peaceably to the ground."(paraphrasing)
"In Christ ALL relationships issues are reconcilable"(very much paraphrasing)
There are many more I could paraphrase. But I won't. My husband enjoyed what he heard and would ask, "Who'd you say wrote this? This is good stuff!"
I DO like the structure of the book. I was given the HOWs throughout majority of the book couple with some WHYs. And then, at the VERY end, was given the Overall WHY! We were Saved, Called and Sent because He has and is Redeeming Us.
Once last thing. Paul Michael did an outstanding job narrating this book. He captured the essence and personality of Matt Chandler! At times he had me laughing out loud!
    Wonderful book
This book was just what I needed. Matt Chandler is one of my new favorite authors. I love how straight forward these two authors are in this book. Just wow.
    Redemption RECOVERED!
Amazing book to help you in recovery from ANY issue you may be facing! Perfect for any recovery group meeting!
    EXACTLY what my heart needed.
Refreshingly honest, Bible backed truth that will set you free from the limitations you place on yourself. This book is now at the top of my list to recommend to others. Much love and gratitude to Matt and Michael for this impactful and truly life-changing, God breathed book.
Loved it. timeless truth in today's language.
