The Pulptress Returns!!!
The Pulptress is a New Pulp character created by Pro Se Press that others can use, sort of a shared character. She is the daughter of two pulp heroes (not told who), and was raised and trained by the greatest pulp heroes (and some villains) in the world.
She first appeared in a self-titled collection of stories that I previously reviewed. In that collection, Andrea Judy introduced The Bone Queen. Judy later wrote a solo novel with just the Bone Queen (which I have yet to read).
Now, the Bone Queen returns to confront The Pulptress for the final time in Blood and Bone.
The Bone Queen has come to Epsilon, Ga., and set up shop. The Pulptress learns about this, and comes down at the request of the local coroner. They are soon teamed up with the living dead Aramis in confronting the Bone Queen.
Needless to say, they succeed.
I would definitely love to see more of The Pulptress. I see a lot of potential with this character that I don't think enough have taken advantage of. If you haven't gotten her first work, get it.
A Rag and a Bone and a Bit of Hair...
The Pulptress VS The Bone Queen: Blood and Bone by Andrea Judy
NOTICE: Any spoilers are totally unintended.
Once before, the mystery lady known as The Pulptress had met the undead Bone Queen. That battle in the Catacombs of Paris had cost The Pulptress a valued colleague and friend. Now, the undead Queen, who is all skeleton from the floating ribs down has come to rural Georgia, in the United States. And someone has made certain that the Pulptress will be there to meet her.
The Bone Queen is fairly beautiful in her face and upper body. It is below her breasts that the true horror is revealed. The skin and flesh go from lifelike to necrosis, until only bare bones are left from lower ribcage to her feet. She controls a bizarre power. She eats bits of bone which then tumbles from her skeletal half and become what she calls âchiffoniers,â undead creatures of rag and bone that do her bidding. They are shambling warriors for an undead Queen.
The Pulptress, said to be the daughter of two golden age pulp heroes, is a mystery that she doesnât want to be solved. Anytime she is seen, she looks slightly different. The name she gives as her true identity is one of many she has created for just such emergencies.
The Bone Queen has come to rural Georgia, to an ancient cemetery said to have tunnels running beneath it. She is accompanied by an undead man specifically created for the trip. Unlike her usual âchiffoniersâ, he still retains his own mind.
Thus begins an epic battle as Andrea Judy weaves her masterful storytelling like a skilled tailor.
