    Good Book, Bad Editing
Good story and captivating characters. A real page-turner. First two-thirds has a rushed quality and flow problems, but it gets better. It is obvious that the publishers did not use an editor. That is a shame. The story is original and the characters had me as a stake-holder right away. I look forward to the next edition.
I could not put it down.........
I stayed up all night to finish reading this book. Captivated my attention and would not let go. This book is going to make great Christmas gifts. I hope Author has more books in the works, I will be watching for them.

He made Joe an offer - one that would mean travelling through the door to another world to find something that had been lost for nearly 200 years. Joe would discover a lot more than that in the years that followed. The Last to Fall is a short novel and the first in a series following Joseph Dean's travels.

    LOVED
I am IN LOVE with the Diary of the Displaced series, and this book did not disappoint! It has been a while since I read the last full length DOD book and this novella rekindled my interest in it full force.
I found the book very interesting as it answers questions that are not answered in the series and explains some things found in the other books so I was totally engrossed throughout the whole read.
The only complaint I have is that it ended on a total cliff hanger and I want to know what happens next.
I feel like it would be best to read after reading the full length novels, that the reader will be more engaged having more back story to go along with it.
Another hit out of the park!
This 3rd book of the series is very interesting in the way he tells of his journeys to his son. The story captures the readers imagination, taking you on Joseph Dean's wild ride after accepting what was offered to him. I found his conversations with his son a bit antiseptic, but I believe the writer wanted more focus on Joe's journey rather than the father/son relationship at this point. One main issue I had was the actual length of the story - still well worth the money, but right as I was settling in, it was already done. The ending leaves the reader wanting more and more besides. Excellent writing again, Mr. James. We look forward in those 2 others your working on by years end and others beyond 2011!
    good spinoff sequel
This book is concise and captivating. The author doesn't waste a lot of time with unnecessary detail. My favorite aspect of his work is he leaves me wanting the next book.
    Wet Your Apatite for More
Well written story. Has a flow that keeps you turning the pages. I decided to read this short story to see if it was worth starting the series. It is. LC
    It was ok
I thought it was ok but it could've been better. Otherwise it was a decent adventure book can't say much else

    The beauty that was Pompeii...
Knowledge of the future can be a burden. Especially if youâre wandering about the city of Pompeii just before Mount Vesuvius erupts. That was, to me, a remarkable insight author Lauren Lynch brought to the book--that knowledge of the future, rather than a blessing, was in fact a burden: an exhausting burden. One we should be glad not to know.
The Veil of Smoke is the second in a time traveler series but the book stands on its own. While some references are made to the first book in the series they do not distract. This is, much as C.S. Lewisâ Chronicles of Narnia, one in a series of books, each with its own plot line -- but together propelling the characters from one mission to another.
It is a Christian allegory but not heavy on the theology. I took away from the book the concept that while God works in our lives, we too must make choices that determine outcomes -- whether they be good or evil. We see in the people of Pompeii many of the same types who walk amidst us today. Busy, tied to this world, oblivious to the transitory nature of life, participating in evil, blind to any greater purpose. Where better to examine all of this than in Pompeii as the earth shakes and clouds of doom gather above?
Lynch brings to the book historical authenticity. She has clearly done her homework regarding the city and what being there was like before and during the famous eruption that buried all. It makes for a better reading experience knowing the detail she throws in from time to time: that a villa was under repair, that the wine was pressed in great earthen bowls or that slaves yearned for freedom no matter how devoted to their masters. She brings antiquity to life.
This is a well written, well researched novel. I recommend it to those who like Christian allegories, C.S. Lewis-themed fantasy, or historical fiction. Two thumbs up!
Defining Moments of Seeking the Lord through The Veil of Smoke...
I loved the transformation that many of the characters made through the journey of this book. Lauren's method of writing kept me reflecting on my own life and it ended up encouraging me to do better in my relationship with Christ. I am going to read the first book now and I look forward to the third in the series.

Did not read it. changed my mind when I started it.
    Great take on Pompeii
I enjoyed the intricate detail the author put into building the story world for the reader. I'm going to recommend it to my children to enhance their study of Pompeii.
An excellent spiritual allegory in a true historical context that is interesting & beneficial for all believers teenagers on up
Although Iâm not much of a fiction reader, I loved this book. It combines an intriguing set of unique elements, making it a rich and captivating story.

    Title: Exodus in Confluence

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-04-16
    Publisher: Verona Booksellers
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Exodus in Confluence is mass-murderer Stephen Hart's haunting account of the December 21, 2013 tragedy in Cinder Heights, Maine.
Five months into the zombie apocalypse, 17-year-old Stephen Hart lived in a society where rules and humanity had left him for dead. The remaining survivors clung feverishly to whatever hope remained-maybe it was a family member, or a religion, or a destination. But in less than one week, everything changed.
A year later, his ramshackle settlement has been compromised, as evidenced by the hordes of the undead swarming inside the gates... and Stephen is to blame. Instead of running, he takes to the airwaves, using the transmission in the now-abandoned radio station to broadcast his story via speakers to his fleeing citizens. This way, maybe he won't look like such a total monster.
With the clock running out, venture into Stephen's post-apocalyptic world, where circumstances can make us become something other than ourselves.

A Beautiful Piece of Work - Minor Spoilers
This review does contain some minor spoilers.
I love a good short story. I even have a word document somewhere on my computer with all of my favorite short stories in it, and most of those I read almost seven years ago! What makes a short story great in my mind is that it has to have a kicker of an ending and it has to make me think. Something that makes me reflect on it years later and still think to myself, "Dang, that ending though!" Mr. Loneyâs story does this, and it does it beautifully. I loved how the reader is trying to figure out the parallel between the "past" and the "present," trying to figure out how they connect. But let's get down to the real business: the ending. It's a trick, really, because the "true ending," as I call it, is past the words "The End," so the reader assumes at first that this newspaper article is a little extra something, a little more insight into the world, so to say. BUT NO. The first time I read it I was like, "Wait, what?!"and I had to go back and give it another read. Then, and this is the best part, the reader feels compelled to glance over the story they just read to see the correlations between the article and narrative. This is GENIUS and is what truly makes the authorâs short story a beautiful piece of art. I highly recommend anyone to pick this book up, because I promise it will not disappoint.
    Wonderfully written short story.
Exodus in Confluence is my first experience with a shorter fiction story. I have read plenty of novellas that go along with longer series, but this was my first standalone one. With that said, I think given the subject matter of this one, the length made this story so much more dynamic. The reader could really feel all of things that the narrator was speaking about through this memoir. The writing was perfect. I mean absolutely perfect, there were portions where sentences would cut off and attitudes would change immediately, and that is exactly what you would expect from the end of the world. There was so much description in these few pages that we got. I loved how you could really feel like you were there with the narrator. Also, you could sense the main character's decline into madness from the beginning, and I think that everyone could relate to that, because thinking about the post-apocalyptic world, would make any one of us go mad as well.
