Packs a punch; makes you think; and it might even make you mad in a good way

The Hunters Daughter (a C-Shapes novel) By Matthew fish

Having read C-Shapes I wasn't sure what to expect from a novel taken from the other side. I certainly was not prepared for the intense thriller that this turned out to be. I've had authors pull me out of my comfort zone now and then but to do that twice in one novel at such strategic points was quite a risk to take. I almost threw the whole thing away about three quarters of the way through the book. And even though I'm not necessarily please about the way the novel ends, I'm happy I finished it and was able to get the whole experience.

As with other novels I will allow this caveat for those who don't like the grammar errors and spelling glitches. This book has 13 that I found and I usually don't find them all. I'd feel bad about not finding them all but editors these days seem to have a problem finding them all.

This is a gritty story of a teenage-young woman who is brought up to become a killer because time and circumstances require it. In the C-shape world a virus has cause a large number of he population to be affected and eventually it leads to an aggro condition that leaves people dead in their wake and so hunters are employed to take out the monsters.

But as with the first novel not everything is as it seems but as it is it's bad enough. Chloe Bartlow has a brother, Aaron, who is infected. Her mother was but she went aggro and her father had to kill her and Chloe had to witness this. She lives in fear of the day that he will have to kill her brother Aaron, but worse than that she fears some day she may have to do it herself.

Her father has given her rigorous training in survival far beyond what is necessary to be a hunter and when the C-Shapes people decide to have her father train people in their main facility they promote her to a full fledged Hunter. Her life changes dramatically and she must learn to become a cold blooded killer. She tries to resist throughout the entire story.

Once again things are not as they seem and Matthew Fish hits the reader right in the gut a couple of time as he tell a twisted tale.

If you look for well defined happy endings this might not be the place. If you like those thought provoking novels with some kick then this will set you to thinking.

I enjoyed this novel along with hating it sometimes; and getting a bit irate with the author other times. The end packs a real punch and it makes this a book well worth reading.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It's interesting to see how the other side lives in the world of C-Shapes. It was also a great study into the loss of innocence.

Action packed futuristic political intrigue

I enjoyed The Viper of Portello. It mixes political intrigue, military action, and family relationships to create a fast-paced ride. Set in the future, sometime after other planets have been colonized, the government of Nova Brazilia has become corrupt. Revolutionaries are set to overthrow the governor. The League military is poised to invade and restore order. Everything rests on the decisions and actions of one man: Eduardo Cabral, sometimes called Culebra, or the Viper of Portello.

The book isn't your typical save-the-galaxy space opera. Though full of action sequences, the main focus is on the characters. Choices affect who we become. Sometimes the choice is forced by circumstances, but how we react says more about who we are than what we've done. Jim Glass takes us inside the heads of the people of Nova Brazilia as their world begins to crumble. It's a well-written and enjoyable story with characters I won't soon forget.

SF Military Genre

A SF military book, with a Southern Drug War feel to it. A shoot them up, and drug book - it didn't need to be set in a SF setting, it would have worked better as a modern fiction piece.

Gripping and fast paced

You can never go wrong with anything this author writes. Every story that pours from the imagination of Mr. Glaze is amazing, and this one is no exception. As always, your work is a joy to read. Keep them coming, sir!

Aliens are coming

This is a heart wrenching action packed story about an alien invasion. How far would you go to save your loved ones? What would you be willing to do to save all of humanity? This story makes you consider just that.

Filthy Language! Not a Great Story.

The book was mediocre at best, but the language was filthy. I don't know where this author lives, or who his friends and family are but I have never been around people that talk like this, and I was in the Navy.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone!

EXCELLENT HORROR STORY

Wow, what a way to start and end a Monday!! Some people complain about Monday's but after reading this story, I think you might reconsider what your day is like.

Alien Apocalypse, that's what comes to mind as I read this story. It's got everything you would expect from this author. Scary? YES. Bloody? YES. Could this really happen? Possibly.

I have read everything possible from this author and he has yet to let me down and this story is no exception. It's a fantastic horror read that is sure to scare you a little, yet keep wanting to read more. I highly recommend this story, though it's not for the faint of heart. Eat your heart out, Stephen King, and meet your competition.

It's an alien apocalypse!!

I am an avid reader and read most book genres, but aliens have never really been my thing, on the page or on screen. However, I do love me a nice book on surviving attacks from any kind of supernatural beings. Monday Survival Guide by J.H. Glaze was exactly the type of thing I enjoy reading, even with the aliens!

I don't do spoilers and I always find it hard to write a review without giving anything away. But, this story throws you right into the action from the very beginning. With people being swept up left and right by tentacles from a giant alien ship. Two brothers try to escape the impending abduction, one of them desperate to get to his wife and son. Their group becomes a little bigger when they are joined by a few others along the way.

What would you do if an EMP caused everything around you to be useless. In an world which has become dependent on these devices, many would suffer. Would you go for food first? Weapons? Transportation?

Or would you do nothing, would you cower and wait helplessly for whatever lies ahead?

Those questions are reason I like stories about surviving apocalyptic type situations.

Good story and characters

God story and plot! The story itself is quite intriguing, it reminded my a little of the classic tales form the old Sasanian Empire and the Roman wars in Syria. A little of everything, including modern warfare and high romance. Good mixture of description, characters and conversation. Not a bad book at all, I like it!

filled with surprises

This is a new era of novel books created by this wonderful author. Great adventures are in this book that will surely be felt as you read through it. Very entertaining novel and the story is very good. It's fun to read this book again and again. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to others too.

Really a good stoical book...

When I got this book I think itâs an ordinary story book, and after purchased this book I read the entire book and now I am very satisfied from this book because this book is more than good from my imagination. All stories of these books are really too good and attractive and realistic I love this book very much.

Wow, this book was not what I was expecting at all!!! I thought it was going to be a story relating to the bible, but it ended up being a story in the future. I was plesentaly surprised by it, and really enjoyed it. The narrative was told in a simple and easy to follow way, in which i always managed to stay interested!

Very fascinating adventure-war story I had read! I love how Jewish-Italian Lieutenant Peter Carmoni help revived Israel from the destroyer Terah! This book was perfectly written and very impressive! Worth reading!

Haven't seen the print version, so cannot judge.

What does Marcus Green and Ben Bagby bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

They breathe life into the characters and narrative.
