Turned it on...Turned it off :'(

What would have made The Fiery Heart better?

I, like countless others waited and waited for this book to come out. Pre-Ordered, but just finished another book and stated The Fiery Heart. Listened for less than 5 mins. To be honest, this series was the reason I joined Audible. Have grown to love you Audible, but...this is your greatest disappointment. I'm sure the male narrator did his best, and...I'll go back and try again, but please...what was the thought process behind changing our beloved characters voice? I've read the other reviews and I'll put it out there...Would you at least CONSIDER a "Do-Over" ??? No one likes it, can you do this for your loyal faithful? We love you...show the love back :D

What was most disappointing about Richelle Meads story?

Low stars are not for the "Story" once I can listen, I know it will be wonderful as all her work, just can't take the male voice on this one. 5 Stars RM...this has nothing to do with her, this is ALL on Audible :( Please, please fix this. You are so much better than this Audible, give us that perfect service and above expectation performance we have come to love!

How could the performance have been better?

Didn't mind the male narrator but to totally remove the accent! That is what makes Adrain....well ADRAIN. I'm so disappointed - who and why would that decision have been made to remove such a key part of the character! Bad call just bad... story seems pretty good but this is a major piece missing that would have made the book more enjoyable!

Do you think The Fiery Heart needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Any follow up book will have to have the accent back in where it's just Emily Shafer or the male narrator but that HAS to be put back in.

tv series is better

I saw the tv show before I saw the book so I was exited to see it was a written story, as they are usually better. Not really the case with this one. perhaps seeing the show tainted my expectations, but I was a little disappointed. I finished it because I thought it would take me beyond the first season of the show, but it actually ended much sooner. I am a 28 year old male, so I don't care for a ton of emotional love story stuff. I really don't mind a little, but the written book seemed to be way over the top, at least for me. 14 year old girls will probably love it. I did like having two narrators, one for male characters and one for the females, that was a good touch. but over all I think the tv series is the real winner.

Formulaic and repetitive

I loved the TV show on the CW so I thought I'd give this one a shot and bought the book. While the performance was mediocre the plot and characters were so poorly developed that their performance is the only good thing about this. Each chapter is told from a 1 of 4 character perspectives which is interesting BUT each chapter is basically written as "2 pages talking about what they are doing now, then flashback for the rest of the chapter". While I'm intrigued by how life was like before they landed on earth, I wanted a story that was equal parts "life in space" and "life on earth" but it was more about space. You hear a bit about the character's concerns about living on earth but you don't really see or hear about the struggles of survival. How do you build a fire? How do you learn to track animals? How do you build a shelter? How do you build a weapon? I mean as a reader, how am I supposed to believe that these children who have lived their WHOLE LIFE in space magically know how to survive on earth? There's only so many times you can say that a character "read it in a book" so they knew how to do it in real life.

I'm extremely disappointed in this book, from the characters, to the low vocabulary used, to the poorly described and developed scenery. I've read better fanfic on this concept/show than this, the original novel.

I enjoy the TV Series more.

They need to end this series. I loved this series, but the last few books keep dragging. It is time for the final farewell, and the authors really need to step it up for the ending so all of the readers who have lasted this long get the finish they are hoping for and deserve.

Little Off for the writers

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This whole book seemed rushed. It seem to lack a great deal of the normal for this series.

While the series in whole is remarkable. This one is lacking so much. I like many can't wait for the next of the House of Night books, and rush to get it soon as I can. Then want to read/listen to it all the way at once.

However, that being said, take your time with this one. As its not so much a novel, but a novelette. Of course there are parts to enjoy, and yes a cliff hanger ending is what one expects in a series. However, this ending felt like it should be the start of the next chapter.

This is a sad edition to the series, I'm not sure if time, or just the desire to get the next book out made a rush job of it. Either way, I expected more.

Would you ever listen to anything by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast again?

At this point, I'm really not sure.

Have you listened to any of Caitlin Daviess other performances before? How does this one compare?

Caitlin Davies does wonderful in this one, as she does in all others.

Cut? I'm not sure the book could stand if anyone was cut from it...

Huge Disappointment

I was so disappointed I wanted to cry. After waiting almost 2 years this is what we get? I have really loved the House of Night Series--until this one. Whats up Casts? The story went on and on, almost boring at times. If the ending had been sooner in the story with some of the issues resolved, then we could have looked forward to another great story. Instead you have clearly set up to sell another book, and some of your fans may choose to avoid another disappointment.

Why was a new narrator used for this book? The new narrator was such a disappointment - while he used nice foreign accents, there was little distinction among the main characters.

Incredible book

What did you love best about Battle of the Ampere?

The series builds upon each other with just the right amount of suspense & adventure for a family to enjoy together. This (series) should be made into a movie.

What did you like best about this story?

The ending- the electro-clan is back together and going off to a new adventure!

What aspect of Kirby Heybornes performance would you have changed?

This narrator did not have the range as the previous narrator for the other 2 books- made it really hard to adjust to especially at first when you are "used to" other voices.

Disappointed in the Narrator

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

When a series has a good narrator, it is just not wise to change. The narrator for the first two books was just GREAT. I felt he was Michael Vey, his voice was just perfect, he struck the right noteyouth coming of age. Very, very, very disappointed in the new narrator. While he has good alternate voices, his main delivery is flat and uninteresting. The book is worth reading, but the narration rather spoiled it for me.

Michael Vey, because he is has a good character.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kirby Heyborne?

The first narrator who read books one and two.

Yes to both but not in this series if I can help it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hmm...I had a hard time following along due to the narrator change. I felt like this book fell flat for me.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kirby Heyborne?

The original narrator, Fred Berman. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Kirby Heyborne as an actor & narrator for Orson Scott Card's Pathfinder series, but in this situation it was almost setting him up for failure. How could he possibly make it work? He does honorably with the accents & what not but I have fallen in love with the way Fred Berman portrayed all of the characters. I miss them all...especially Austin! Bones!

Do you think Battle of the Ampere needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It will have one. I felt like there were a lot of unanswered story lines that just sort of popped up and faded out without resolution. Like the Zeus/Tessa story...why did he stop talking to her?...or where the other Electric children went during the end, etc.

Good series, but not awesome

The narration was phenomenal! The story was good, but not gripping or really exciting. it did have some good plot twists though.

Jennifer is but the male narrator, not so much!

I loved Jennifer Ikeda as always but did not like the male narrator since his reading seemed very Steph and almost robotic.

Very enjoyable trilogy

This was a very enjoyable and well thought out trilogy and Jennifer Ikeda's performance was flawless.

The End of a great Trilogy

This series is so very thorough in its descriptions. One book is more like 3 and yet such an engaging read. It has a decidedly Spiritual spin but it is truly a commentary on following any faith blindly. We should "always question." I enjoyed all three books.

Riveting New Series

This is a thoroughly enjoyable science fiction/post apocalypse story of survival and morality. I stayed up late a couple of nights glued to the headphones needing to know what happens next. There are lots of plot twists, some you might see coming and some you dont. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. Dont miss this.

OK not just another "end of times" story

I don't listen to books after I have heard them. Not yet, anyway.

Would you be willing to try another book from Demitria Lunetta? Why or why not?

Absolutely. Literate, lively, she brings the characters to live, although the current trend to making the proantagonist is stories "niave" and "unable to see the forrest for the trees" tends to be irksome.

This story is no exception, but hey, it comes with the territory.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the truth of where and what the real issue was. Compelling listening to be sure.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Sometimes abit gruesome, and some funny dialogue.

The highlight of this presentation is the performance by Julia Whelan. Stunning. Full of emotion, authenticity, creativity and flexibility. I recommend her work highly, and notably in this environment.

From fantastic to done before

I was riveted the entire way through. The books is kind of in 3 parts. The first part with the aliens arriving and Amy learning to survive by being quiet, not talking for years, the alien attacks and behavior. It was brilliant.

When they are rescued and brought to New Hope, I was so angry at the people in charged, at Amy's treatment there. My blood was on fire the entire time. I felt like Amy should have been a little more stealthy as she discovered what was really going on, as to not get caught. The ultimate reveals of the why behind everything (aliens, New Hope) left me disappointed. It's all been done before. Although this is done really well. Amy is a solid character, smart and strong and I definitely rooted for her. But I was so enraged at certain characters, at her treatment, that I don't know if I'll read the next one. It was a little over the top or I just don't like the way I felt so angry.

Julia Whelan is always a great narrator choice.

No Words To Describe

What strong vocabulary that made the book fantastic. Such an interesting story plot that left you on the edge of your seat wanting to read more! Now I'm looking toward to reading Unsouled.

I love the way the author is able to convey such a creepy idea, in a way that makes it so interesting to read.

Yes. If I didn't have a life, I never would have put it down.

Absolutely, it's an amazing story that will make you think, that will touch you deeply and besides all that it's just a darn good story with marvelous characters.

What did you like best about this story?

I don't know if I can pick just one thing, the whole story was amazing from start to finish, I desperately didn't want it to end. This sounds silly, but what I liked best was that it was a continuation from the first one, I wanted more of the story and this was it. I also loved the message of redemption.

Have you listened to any of Luke Danielss other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have, this one is at least as good, maybe even better. Regardless, it was AWEsome.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When I realized something about one of the characters ... before the story explained it. I was shocked, intrigued, horrified, amazed ... all that once.

Inferno is ablaze.

This is another hit although the last 5 minutes at the ending was weird and I didn't like it. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's stuff and Holter Graham is awesome. Sherrilyn truly has a way of writing that makes you want to be a better person. Nick is such a wonderful character, all of her characters are. Recommended to read in order after the Dark/Dream Hunter books which I love. The world Sherrilyn creates is so vivid and exciting, the stories pull me right in. There was some conflicting back stories from this book and the rest of her stories, but that does not deter from the enjoyment it gives. There were a couple of recording/editing issues with the sentence being cut off and repeat of some phrases although it wasn't bad.

Kenyon Does It Again! Nick Is Back!

What made the experience of listening to Inferno the most enjoyable?

First and foremost, the stories about Nick are extremely entertaining...everything from demon rage to fumbling and embarrassed, Nick takes us all (readers) to places we've been and can relate to.

Second, please don't lose Holter Graham. He brings all of the dark hunter/Nick books to true life. It's amazing to realize after hearing the book that Holter never misses a beat, or voice even when switching from Nick's mom to Nick to Ash...what a talent!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, Ash is my first place character because he tries to mentor Nick through very trying circumstances without giving too much away about why he knew what he was talking about. Nick is smart enough to listen and remember.

What about Holter Grahams performance did you like?

Holter Graham's interpretation and voice. He renders power, awe, and pure embarrassment so realistically you all but feel a part of the scene being read. He is the perfect choice to read these books of Kenyon's.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Nick is back...badder than ever!

Editors Select, March 2013 - One perk of being an Audible Editor is that I am often lucky enough to get my hands on an early copy of a much-coveted book. This was the case with Requiem the final book in Lauren Olivers marvelous dystopian trilogy. And the conclusion was as brilliant as the first two books. Young Adult literature is experiencing a real renaissance right now and Ive been reading and listening to a lot of it, but this series beats out all the others, in my opinion. Olivers world is creepily compelling and utterly unique, and the narration is top-notch. Even though Ive already read Requiem Ill be listening to it as soon as I can: Sarah Drew rivals Emma Galvin as todays best YA voice.

Where there is love there is freedom...

This is an amazing ending to one of my all-time favorite YA series! I am so blown away right now by this story and by Sarah Drews brilliant performance.

After the huge cliff-hanger from Pandemonium I knew this was going to be an extremely emotional book. It did not disappoint. The suffering, loss, determination and struggles of the main characters was gut-wrenching. I was pleased that Lauren Oliver choose to write about all aspects of love and the many shapes and forms it takes in our lives. (not just the romantic type)

Like many other reviewers this book left me wanting more. However, I was not entirely disappointed by the ending. It felt real and true to the characters that Ms. Oliver leaves room for interpretation. Not all endings need to be handed over on a silver platter I guess.

However, my own secret wish is that this is not the end of the Delirium Trilogy. Its just too painful to let go of these characters for now.

The ending was wretched. The book needed one last chapter to resolve the lives of the main characters (Tak, Hana, Julian, Lena's family, etc).

Not great but not horrible

While I feel like this author is dragging the story out for sales, it's still not a horrible series. I've definitely read worse writing and like the feeling of mystery that this book gives me. Also great for old school Twilight fans to have a new set of boys to debate who is best. Don't mind the series but it's definitely not that fantastic.
