    Charles Dickens early work
These are short sketches that are amusing. You can read a few of them at a time and get a kick out them. They are good for reading when you are not really in the mood for deeper and more solid reading. Good summer time reading when you are tired and sunstruck after a long day.

    Great short story.
If you could sum up The Moth in three words, what would they be?
    creepy, compelling, listening.
Which character as performed by Phillip J. Mather was your favorite?
I loved Phillip J. Mather's narration of this great short story. A tale of academic rivalry and a feuds which continue beyond the grave.

'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' is a haunting ballad describing a young knight whose very lifeblood and vitality have been drained by a beautiful but parasitic, fairylike vampire. This knight has now been left as an undead shell of his former self, alone on a barren hillside.

    Haunting and Evocative
There are so many analyses of this poem; I have none to add. But, for me, it has always been haunting and faintly eerie--after all, " . . . her eyes were wild . . . "

    Good Collection and Presentation
The Best Of Halloween is a collection of old, spooky stories. Most will be familiar to the reader and don't need to be reviewed. What does need to be reviewed is TBOH collection itself. I found it to be an enjoyable collection. You can get all these works for free elsewhere, but if you want several and you like you Kindle to have fewer items for easier navigation (as I do), then this is a hood way to get them. There is also a section at the end about the history of Halloween that is enjoyable, as well as suggestions for Halloween viewing and a list of film adaptations of all the included stories. I return to a couple of these writings often, particularly at Halloween, and I'm fairly content having them in this form
    Fun and Easy to Navigate
This is a great collection, and obviously very cheap. Some might complain because the works themselves are already in the public domain, but to have them all nicely organized like this, with good formatting, spelling, etc, is definitely worth a dollar. The movie list is also pretty good; I have yet to watch any but I've put a few on my list! Each movie comes with an informative blurb, so you know what you're getting yourself into and why it's a significant (or not-so-significant) adaptation of the novel.
    Tales Of Terror NEVER Disappoint...
Seriously, where are you going to get such a great compilation of classic horror tales for that price. It's TOTALLY worth it (sorry if I sound like a teenage girl, but I get into fanboy mode when I talk about Frankenstein and Dracula). Grab it if you love these stories and are lacking on your e-reader...
    Hauntingly wonderful!
Very well formatted for Kindle, easy to read with those horror stories and authors which define the genre. A must for any fan of terror! So far, this book has provided hours of wonderful terrifying evenings with my family! Very well done! Kudos, as my grand-daughter would say!
    Five Stars

  • The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Audiobook by Robert Louis Stevenson

Title: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

    Language: English
    Release date: 11-18-15
    Publisher: silksoundbooks Limited
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
It was a nightmare from which he was furious to have been woken which triggered Robert Louis Stevenson's most successful and famous work. Having been stirred from what he termed 'a fine bogey tale', Stevenson set about putting his nightmare onto paper.
It reputedly took him only three days to write, but the story of a split personality warring with itself between righteousness and immorality is as much a part of modern thought as it became in 1885. The story of the upright and moral Dr. Jekyll and his horrific and uncontrollable other within has been seen as an allegory for the chronic duality of the Victorian era, with its insistence on outward respectability and its underbelly of vice and exploitation.
History has it that the first draft of the novella was burnt by Stevenson in response to his wife's criticisms, possibly about the explicitly sexual nature of the wild Mr Hyde's nocturnal exploits. The chilling vagueness of the final version's descriptions of his pursuits adds to the Victorian nature of the story as much as to the horror of the man. But the story is much more than a representation of an age. The psychological clarity of Stevenson's examination of human urges and desires as controlled, or not, by concepts of morality lead to his establishment as a major literary figure.
Teamed with the three other unexpected and wittily terrifying stories in this collection, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is likely to send the listener into a short nightmare of their own - one, however, we consider very fine indeed.

    Brilliant
A brilliant reading of Stevenson's nightmarish tale. There have been so many adaptations of the story that it's hard to recover the shock people must have felt reading it for the first time. Only near the end does the lawyer Utterson discover that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person: until then he tries to piece together the story of what he thinks is blackmail, directed against his valued client Henry Jekyll - Hyde being the blackmailer.
Howard's reading suffers in the last chapter - Jekyll's written confession - by trying to make it a straightforward and unemotional narrative of the facts. But despite this miscalculation, it remains one of the best readings of this fine, haunting tale by the Spinner of Tales.

  • The Return of the Native Audiobook by Thomas Hardy

Title: The Return of the Native
    Author: Thomas Hardy
    Narrator: Oliver Cotton
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-18-15
    Publisher: silksoundbooks Limited
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Eustacia Vye's great desire in life was to be loved to madness, and in this, one of Thomas Hardy's best-loved novels, one of his most superb female characters conducts her wild and lethal campaign against her rival - the innocent, rather conventional Thomas - against the backdrop of Egdon Heath, the equally wild and lethal Dorset moorland on which Hardy grew up.
When Hardy first published the book, it was greeted with both acclaim and outrage. The response to the unfashionably shocking initial ending meant that Hardy was forced to add the sixth and last book to create the happy outcome that the public demanded for the characters he'd persuaded them to mind so much about.
This being a book about desire, gratification and marvellous manipulation, he did, however, naturally give them a happy ending on his own terms....

    Language: English
    Release date: 11-16-15
    Publisher: silksoundbooks Limited
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Attraction, desire and sex were not proper subjects for a 19th-century novel, and Charlotte Brontë's clear and open handling of all three in Jane Eyre was shocking, exciting and revolutionary.
Jane Eyre - a small, plain-faced, intelligent and honest English orphan - is abused by her aunt and cousins as a child; acquires role models during her education at Lowood Academy; becomes the governess of Thornfield Manor, where she falls in love with her Byronic employer, Edward Rochester; spends time with the Rivers family at Marsh's End and Morton, where cousin St John Rivers proposes to her; and is finally reunited with and marries her beloved Rochester at his house of Ferndean.
Author Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) was born at Thornton, Yorkshire, to an Irish Anglican clergyman and his wife, Maria Branwell. When Charlotte was four, the family moved to the famed Parsonage at Haworth, which was to prove so influential in her and her siblings' writing.
A year later, in 1921, her mother died of cancer, leaving five girls and a boy to be brought up by her sister, Elizabeth - 'Aunt Branwell'. She was the eldest of the three famous Bronte sisters, whose novels have become standards of English literature.

    A beautifully read classic
Emily woof is the perfect narrator having a young woman's voice appropriate to that of Jane Eyre in her late teens and early 20's . What more can be said about the story line and the characters after almost 2 centuries of comment and discussion. Ive finally read one of the classics as an older man and it's lived up to its mythic status . I hope younger readers and listeners will have the perseverance to read or listen to this book Written at a time when people had much more time to relax and enjoy reading.
