Tolles Buch - spannend vom Anfang bis zum Ende. Die Autorin haelt gern wichtige Informationen, die letztlich dem Verstaendnis der Geschichte dienen, zurueck, was aber auch die Spannung erhoeht und dafuer sorgt, dass man den Text nur hoechst ungern beiseite legt.

What a lovely book

Such an amazing, heartbreaking, uplifting, and rememberable book. Definitely a story I will want to return to. Mitchell's books always have the same effect on me, in the beginning it takes a moment to get into the story but once it happens I don't wanna stop. He has a way of creating such wonderful and realistic characters. Recommended.

"Loved it" is too minor a term

Beautifully poetic, intricately woven and delicately told. This was my first Mitchell book and will be buying all others in the hopes they can live up to this beautiful story. I'll keep Holly in my heart forever. Also a great "thank you" to the narrators, every single one was as good as the previous and they were perfectly cast to fit their persona. One always wants more from a story they love, but the closing words left me satisfied and joyful.

loved every second of this book. and i really like how there are different narrators for each "part" of the book.

Disappointing final 20%

The last ten chapters lets it down. So boring. So long. The earlier chapters covering various Earthlings were wonderful. I looked forward to my daily walk so I could listen to the next part of the book. It held together, was interesting and well written. The last portion of the book had no pace. Impossible to get into. It's rare for the end of the book not to hold the reader engaged. This was it for me.

Not as good as some of his other books.

The Ghost in the Electric Blue Suit

Graham Joyce's new novel was published in the United Kingdom last year under the title of THE YEAR OF THE LADYBIRD. The reason for the change is clear enough: the insect in question is only known as a ladybird in some parts of the United States, and THE YEAR OF THE LADYBUG doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Nonetheless it's a regrettable alteration in some ways. THE YEAR OF THE LADYBIRD suggests the novel's delicate yet potent rendering of a slightly surreal time in its protagonist's life, while THE GHOST IN THE ELECTRIC BLUE SUIT narrows the focus to one aspect of the novel, and not (at least to my mind) its most significant or well-executed aspect. But whatever name it goes by, this is a fine, subtly atmospheric variation on the coming-of-age novel, a real pleasure if approached in the right spirit.

In 1976, David Barwise has rejected a job with his stepfather in favor of a summer spent working at a holiday camp, a unique (and perhaps uniquely) British institution for vacationing families. Colorful coworkers, inadequate supplies, and slightly desperate merry-making make for a charming account of an industry that was past its peak then and has declined further in subsequent decades. But this isn't just a sentimental reminiscence: weightier things are going on, from the foreboding popularity of the racist National Front to David's entanglement with two maintenance workers, gruff Colin and his beautiful, quiet wife Terri. Not to mention a heatwave, an infestation of ladybugs, and the mysterious man in the electric blue suit.

Actually, "mysterious" isn't the word for him, as it's quite obvious what he represents. A late sequence where all is clarified is technically well-executed but feels surplus to requirements; it also introduces a further twist that's too operatically tragic for a novel that has been commendable in its avoidance of obvious reaching after mood.

Brilliant listen and wonderful narration!

It's been a long time comin' but what a thrill to listen to these early Salinger stories. In all argument - these are not Salinger's "best" but anything Salinger puts a pen to is always at once AMAZING. His voice is singular; simple, eloquent and drop dead gorgeous. I found myself laughing out loud many times. The pitch perfect narration enhanced Salinger's voice helmed by the amazing Mike Dennis. Oftentimes I couldn't help but thing of the young Holden Caulfield as Mike Dennis captured the banter of Salinger's "fer chrissakes" and personal patter so succinctly and beautifully. A rare and beautiful treasure.

One of the best qualities of J.D. Salingers writing is his characters: their interactions that are laden with nuanced layers and characterized with conversations that are so realistic and natural in feel that you could overhear any one of them anytime. Not one who lays out the obvious conclusion, Salingers work leads you to the conclusions that he wants, or leaves you with enough information to make a decision for yourself: either way you will walk away with a different perspective and the feeling that you have entrée into some secrets you never knew before.

Couldn't make it all the way through.

I just didn't care enough about the characters, their interactions, or the plot to force myself through this one. Claire Danes as the reader is wasted on what's just a bad book. I made it 3/4 of the way through and thought, why am I forcing myself to listen to something so unsatisfying? The nice thing about being an adult (and not a student with homework) is that you really DON'T have to finish a book that doesn't warrant the time or attention.

Most boring book I've listened to..

The writing was well done, if somewhat pathetic in the attempt to be hip and in the know, but I'm still trying to figure out what the point was. Very boring and extremely disappointing.

Breathtaking

This is my second book by Cunningham It was been at least 25 years since I have been this enthralled by an author. His stories and prose are radiant, captivating. His command of language is miraculous. I can't recommend this book too highly.

Not a dark thriller on any level -disappointing

What was most disappointing about Helen Fitzgeralds story?

This really never got going and the plot line was weak to say the least - I found the 'tweets' irritating and felt like abandoning it if I heard ' bobbly pops @bobbly pops' one more time. I listened on hoping there would be more of a twist - sadly not.

What about Lucy Patersons performance did you like?

On the upside it was well performed but that is unfortunately the only positive thing I can say.

What character would you cut from The Cry?

The old lady - can't even remember her name to be honest this just wasn't for me - it was sold as a dark psychological thriller that would leave you wanting more and I just could nt wait for it to end a poor plot.

I rarely leave reviews but felt I had to in this case as when it ended I thought oh? Is that it?? But to be honest I was surprised I d persevered. It may appeal to some but not to me sadly
