âWally had won! and he felt so proud.â
San Diego, California Author Leela Hope studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. And it is there that her star shines brightest. Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting!
Using her gift for rhyming verse Leela relates an all animal story about Wally Raccoon in Book 3 of WALLY RACOONâS FARMYARD OLYMPICS â AQUATICS DAY. All the animals in the farmyard are excited about the Aquatics Day events in the third day of the Olympics. Wally sees the diving event and wishes to try, but the ducks have that cornered. The Water Polo seems the territory of the geese and Wally, wishing to compete, is shunned and hurt. Sal the Collie announces the sailing event and invites Wally to join. Wally is happy to try, finds a small boat with Salâs help, and wins the race!
The story is excellent and the illustrations by Story Blue Book are superb. This is yet another winner from Leela Hope. Grady Harp, May 16
