    Author: William Wynn Westcott
    Narrator: Adam Hanin
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 29 mins

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 7 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Thought
    Publisher's Summary:
Masonic scholar William Wynn Westcott examines the assertion that the ancient religious sect, known as the Essenes, was in many ways a precursor to the Masonic fraternity. In addition to the notable features of brotherly love, relief, truth, morality and universal tolerance, there were much more tangible similarities, such as initiation, oaths, modes of recognition and the reception of an apron upon admittance. Or, at least that's what other Masonic writers would have you believe.

    Opinionated
The views expressed in this work are derived clearly from authoritarian sources, dry, negative, and rather misinformed on the nature of the essenes both past and present.

    Prayer for continuous worship
I don't think there could be a bad way to pray and this was not a disappointment. The only comment I can make in comparing this to other monthly prayer guides is that this is not as intimate as others I have read.
There are lessons that have an impact and offer thought provoking insights. This is definitely worth reading and I got a lot from it.
    5 stars
This is a good devotional for everyone. It has the prayer , the scripture to meditate on and food for thought.
    A Pastoral help!
Every pastor needs to have a variety of written prayers
    Great worship guide.
I chose this book because I find it helpful reading books modeling prayers. It is hard for me to voice my prayers of praise, and this book does an excellent job of that. I really enjoyed the format of each prayer, and then the scripture passages which were so appropriate. This book of prayers has helped me in reaching a more intimate relationship with my Creator, and is helping me learn how to praise Him more adequately with words. I will read this again and again to help improve my prayers of praise. It is a blessing from one of God's anointed.

30 well-written prayers, that cover many of our needs for private adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication. Each one includes appropriate Bible reading. Length varies from less than a page to about two pages, depending on typeface size chosen. Let's put it this way -- I'm going through the book a second time, right after the first go-around.

Two of these are intellectual systems: First that of Preston, whose key word is Knowledge; second, that of Krause, whose key word is Morals. Two of these are spiritual systems: First that of Oliver, whose key word is Tradition; and second, that of Pike, whose key word is Symbolism. Pound concludes with an exploration into the simple origins of secret societies and how they led up to the modern Masonic fraternity.

more for existing masons then those with curiosity
builds on knowledge I don't know thus not that impactful. though well written. if I set out to learn more of a kraft I knew it would have been helpful but it was not an introductory by any means.
    Required reading for all Masons
Roscoe Pound was the Dean of Harvard Law School for much of the early twentieth century and a prolific writer. Pound was also a distinguished Mason and collected here are his research findings into four of the most influential Masonic philosophers.
Brother Pound concisely presents both his historical findings on these four men and their individual philosophies in a way very easy to digest. Pound's goal was to answer the question, "What it means it actually mean to be a Freemason?" In my opinion, he answers it right here.
Great insight in to great thinkers!
I got a lot out of those particular reading. It's not really an introduction or for beginners book. I've been a MM for a while now and the insight that was organized and presented was well thought out. In my opinion this would be great to suggest to the MM who's already study up some or has a firm grasp as to the administrative, history and terminology of the fraternity. I truely enjoyed this, so much so that I sat for its entirety. definitely deserves a second listen in time once reflected upon.

Each of the seven primary energy centers of the human body - the chakras - corresponds to a specific path. In this book, those paths are outlined, complete with spiritual exercises, giving you, the reader, a sense of the most fruitful direction for your journey.

    Delighted With Joan's Work
I asked for this series as a gift several years ago and, have given it as a gift as well. With "Wit and Wisdom" Joan Borysenko offers a unique method of describing the individual spiritual paths we naturally fit into and/or, are called to work on, throughout our lifetime.
Her candid, yet easy nature, prepares us for serious thought provoking work, all connected by the threads of humor and personal experience. I have listened to the series while commuting to and from work a number of times. I'm always intrigued by the material and delivery. Each time one listens to this work, the words resonate in a different manner and touch another place. I'm purchasing another set as a special Christmas gift. Surly this gift will please the recipient. I have a number of Joan's books and CDs and have never been disappointed.
Thank You ~ Living in NH
I feel better about myself and my life!
Joan Borysenko is a class act! In this inspiring discussion of various ways to connect with one's own sense of the divine, she so gracefully finds the common ground shared by different approaches to spirituality that it's hard to believe that disagreements about religion are at the heart of so many troubles in the world today. If only more people would listen to this program!
I consider myself fairly well traveled seeker in the spiritual realm, but I learned a lot about myself and my husband when we played it in the car on a long drive. Although the program is six CDs long (for less than $20!!), listening to it took up even more driving time, because we kept pausing the CD to discuss the points she was making. That's my idea of a good audio program!
    Potpourri Spirituality
I believe this world must be running fast to the end of its life as I see these days everybody is talking about spirituality even though they don't seem to know what the spirituality really is. Ms. Borysenko is surely one of many so-called spiritual gurus who have no substance at all but talking. Just like the other self-annointed false prophets, she cherry-picked good stuff from all of major religions in the world, blended them with psycology and tried to turn them into her own spirituality. However, she failed since I didn't see any originality or creativity in her presentation. I want to call this 'potpourri spirituality' that smells good but has no real vibrant living things in it. I gave the one star becasue that is the lowest point I can give.

    Publisher's Summary:
A four-hour workshop presented at the First International Conference on Consciousness and Addiction with Dr. Willis Harman (President of the Institute of Noetic Sciences).Where the world goes wrong in attempting to help addicts is by offering a 200-level solution for a 600-level experience. A 600-level energy problem requires a 600-level energy answer. With chalk in hand, a young Dr. Hawkins explains that a person is addicted to the re-experiencing of a certain high-energy field. He walks us through the steps of AA and his own personal experience with alcohol. He shows that drugs do create the high but only have the power to remove the blocks to this higher energy field that is always present within us.Using the now familiar Map of Consciousness, he takes us through the various energy levels from death to bliss. He states that, To experience this energy field (Bliss) is the most addictive of all human experiences. In the movie Lost Horizon, Dr. Hawkins illustrates how Shangri-La is akin to experiencing bliss. The lead character, due to various circumstances, leaves Shangri-La only to find that his bliss experience is the only one he truly desires and that he will give up everything to get back to Shangri-La. Powerful and personal, Dr. Hawkins creates a context in which to hold an understanding of the whole process of addiction.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 33 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Thought
    Publisher's Summary:
To write a book about Jesus is a challenging task; to live a life like Jesus' is more challenging still. Though not primarily a work of theology or of spirituality, this popular history intends to help the words and deeds of Jesus come alive for contemporary readers. In Jesus' day, he was a polarizing figure; one was either for him or against him.
Today, even many who are familiar with the story of Jesus are unmoved. There are a number of reasons for this, but one of them is that we have forgotten the history of which Jesus came to be part; and we have also forgotten how we fit in. When God acted in Jesus, he acted in history, and that history came with particular cultures, presuppositions, and memories of its own. Without an understanding of these things, Jesus' polarizing words and deeds become blunted because their backdrop has been removed.

    well told.
This is an important piece of literature that I include among many others to complete the picture of History during Biblical times.
    Great read
The book did a great job of laying out the life of Jesus and the authors research was on point.
    An Informative Book
I enjoyed the information presented in the text. It is an informative book on the ways of life around King Jesus.
I was disappointed in the voice of the person doing the reading. Good history book.
