I'm pretty "woo woo," but I couldn't handle this!

Would you try another book from Solemon Rune and/or Jason Lovett?

The narrator was atrocious, and the content of the book felt "fluffy" and not at all researched based. I only made it 15 minutes before I had to turn it off in disgust. Quoting unidentified "experts" and "practitioners" every other sentence, is bad journalism and lends no credibility to the information given. I'm disappointed, because I really do want to learn about decalcifying the pineal gland, but this book was NOT useful in the least.

What didnt you like about Jason Lovetts performance?

It is distracting in that his expression is forced and fake sounding, and he oftentimes drags out the last syllable of his sentence in an annoying way.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Third Eye?

All the uses of some anonymous "experts" and "practitioners". It was very similar to supermarket tabloids' use of "sources" rather than actual people's names.

Informative

Short and too the point. My criticism with much of the occult and esoteric literature is that they are often long winded, don't emphasize much history and thus we lose context and are not practical enough. These traditions are to be experienced and Baal gets down to it. So far my one objection is (and I have not read all his books) that there is little mention of the importance of spiritual love. It is The Force of integration in ourselves and the world. There are not enough non-self centered practices here - apart from the book on the Ari and Tikkun. My favourite thus far.

Mary Magic

Since I know little about Mary, the mother of Jesus, I was curious. This book is basically the different prayers to Mary for your health, wisdom, wealth, etc. It talks about setup required for each prayer including the day of the week those prayer should be said on.

All this book did was to wet my mind to learning more about Mother Mary.

Not an audiobook.

This is basically a podcast or interview with the author. The material is interesting but the format is strange.

Waiting for Quetzalcoatl

This is a short book... In fact it is not really a book, but a series of reflections by the author, Daniel Pinchbeck, on psychedelics, shamanism and the future post 2012 'end of the Mayan calendar', with reference to his previous books "Breaking Open the Head" and "2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl". The most interesting part for me was Pinchbecks first hand experiences with the Bwiti tribe in Africa taking Iboga, and with the Secoya of Ecuador drinking Ayahuasca in a ritualistic setting under the guidance of local shamen.

His review of the literature is excellent, and he makes a strong case, quoting previous authors such as Walter Benjamin and Aldous Huxley for the value of psychedelics in restoring an appreciation of the sacred and transcendent, which Western culture has all but lost. Universally aboriginal cultures treat psychedelic plants as a sacred source of archaic wisdom, and a tool for gaining insight, and healing, and the Shaman is a rightly revered cultural figure. Could we learn something from these other, more sustainable ancient cultures? Certainly, we desperately need to open our eyes to pressing existential issues such as the unsustainability and destructiveness of our way of life, our commodification of animals, and our ruthless exploitation of the planet. In Jungian terms, as Pinchbeck points out, we ignore our shadow at our peril! If psychedelics raise our awareness to the sacredness of the world around us, the transcendent nature of our consciousness, and the destructive way we treat both, we should take their proposed use as a means of gaining insight seriously.

In this I found myself in full agreement. I only started to feel uncomfortable as the book went on.

The End of Magic?

This book is an interesting, if largely speculative, foray into what might be some possible scientific explanations for phenomena which have been considered magical or mystical throughout the ages. Kaplan, a science writer, explores topics ranging from the mystical qualities associated with ravens, prophecies based on bird migration patterns, the use (intentional or not) of hallucinogenic substances to inspire visions of the divine, divination through the examination of entrails, enchantments, spells, potions, the sense of a presence of a higher power and near-death experiences. Some of these speculations are more plausible than others.

Kaplan is a pure materialist and takes the approach, which may seem condescending to persons of faith, that any apparent validity of such phenomena must have a scientific explanation and he sometimes goes pretty far out on a speculative limb to make his point. He makes no allowance for the possibility that there may some things which science cannot, and will not ever, be able to explain--that there may be different ways of "knowing" than through the scientific method. I love science and do not think we should ever stop asking questions about how our world works, but I think there is more than a bit of hubris in the unquestioning assumption that science, and our understanding of it, is the only path to truth.

Pick another book! Absolute waste of time & money!

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Anyone who enjoys being rampantly exploited, without further ado, should buy this boxed set.

What was most disappointing about Michele Gilberts story?

She has very little to say. Then at the end she wastes more time saying "thanks for downloading my book" and a bunch of legal rigamarole. It took her 20 minutes to get around to talking about what Kabbalah is. She gave a long, unhelpful introduction about most Jews not liking it. She tells you what she's going to tell you, tells you again and again, then finally gives a brief outline of the Kabbalah tree. Then at the end she wastes more time saying "thanks for downloading my book" and a bunch of legal rigamarole. She uses the same modus operandi for Tarot. There is more information on both topics available on Wikipedia.

What didnt you like about Laura Wittens performance?

She mispronounced "Torah" and other words. She talked way, way too fast, without the slightest pause between points.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I've been had. The four and five star reviews were done by astroturfing catfishers or catfishing astroturfers. Caveat emptor!

Any additional comments?

Overpriced. She should have paid me to listen. She also needs to review English grammar. She should write a book on how to succeed as a charlatan.

Enjoyable

This audable book was easy to understand and very informative. I highly recommended this ebook.

A basic overview - much needed for this subject

The Kabbalah, much less The Tarot, needs a lifetime of study, but you have to start somewhere. As is normal with voluminous subject, it is easy to become overwhelmed, believing one won't be able to master it. Best to start with small but informative bites. This short bite is not only just right for getting started, but requires several listenings to keep in memory. One needn't understand nor memorize everything herein, but memorizing each topic will be extremely helpful for future studies. Just as learning times tables in math won't make you an Einstein, they will be helpful in life.
