    Publisher's Summary:
In Regency England, Mrs. Thorne's School for Young Ladies is about to close due to the death of young Clarissa's mother a year ago. This leaves 18-year-old Clarissa Thorne and her three schoolmistress friends no option but to return to the bosoms of their families as despised 'poor relations' - at everyone's beck and call for all their lives.
But Clarissa has just inherited Ashcroft, a large, crumbling estate, and she offers her companions an escape - to run away with her to a life of independence and adventure. They must put the estate to rights with little money and less experience. Can sensible Miss Micklethwaite, aging romantic Miss Appleby, and the beautiful Miss Oriana Petersham escape their fate? To keep the vivacious, impulsive Clarissa in check, they must at least try.
However, their relatives may have other plans.
Meeting the Earl of Grandiston and his companion (a devotee of the divine Oriana) on the road sets hilarious events in motion. Perhaps to adventure the ladies must add romance.

    An Enjoyable Surprise
I am not familiar with this arthor but I throughly enjoyed the story. I recomend it to those who like regency romances. It is light and funny and very entertaining.
    Hard to follow
I found this very hard to follow, I ended up alternating between reading what I had just listened to and back and forth to clarify. I'm not sure it was worth it.... Yet I can't really point to any specific issue that is bad. All in all okay with the potential to have been really good as the story itself was interesting, just told too fast perhaps. (Not fast like talking fast, tho a little of that too at times)
    hard to follow
the narrator did a good job. However, the story line was hard to follow. I had to keep rewinding to remember who the characters were.

A good listen but needs more deapth on the story
If you could sum up Mail Order Bride: The Surprise Bride Saved by the Heartbroken Indian in three words, what would they be?
To short for the type of story it is. It has such wonderful writing and plot but needs to be longer to make it a more believable story
What does Meghan Kelly bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The emotion of each characters, she brings feeling into the read giving it a meaning.
    Any additional comments?
This is a story about pain from a father abandoning his family and an Indian who has felt nothing from most of the white man but painful hurtful words. This was a wonderful plot and a great base for a story however it was way too short and too fast for the type of story it is. I loved the characters and the meaning behind the story this just moved to fast.
Ms. Kelly as the narrator I thought did a wonderful job her voice is clear and even tone. I felt she did a wonderful job on her character voice and their emotions. I heard no background noise just a clear and clean audio. There was one place where she repeated her words my guess is this is when she took a break. It is noticeable but doesnt take away from the audio at all. There are a few places where her natural voice that she sounds like she is reading or more robotic. It is not that way throughout the book just in places. I have listen to some of Ms. Kellys samples in audios which I found a few to be this way but not all. I am guessing some are earlier work and other is later work which she has grown in. I found this to be a wonderful narration with a few bumps but nothing that takes away from the listen which is very enjoyable. Her character voices are outstanding you have no trouble understanding who is talking and what they are feeling. Her male voices are as pleasant as her female ones. She brings the audio alive painting a picture that you can see clearly in your mind. I am very much looking forward to listening to more audios by this narrator.
I feel this story could have been so much more had it been longer giving the main characters time to get to know each other. I felt they fell in love to fast not truly knowing much at all about each other.

It's 1836, and 19-year-old Fanny Appleton, a privileged daughter of a wealthy, upper-class Boston industrialist, is touring Europe with her family. Like many girls of her day, she enjoys the fine clothes, food, and company of the elite social circles. But unlike her peers, Fanny is also drawn to education, literature, and more intellectual pursuits.
Published author and poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is also touring Europe but under much different circumstances. Recently widowed, he is gathering research for a new publication that he hopes will secure his professorship at Harvard College. Befriended by the Appleton family while visiting Switzerland, Henry is introduced to Fanny and sees in her a kindred spirit, a lover of language and literature and high ideals. He is in love. Fanny, however, is uncertain. He is from a much lower social class and is older than she is. How could such a relationship ever thrive? Could a book of Henry's poetry, personally delivered, persuade Fanny to believe in a love that lasts forever and forever?

    Good
I love to read stories based on true characters and enjoyed knowing more about Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's courtship with his wife. It did get a bit tedious but then it took place over seven years. I always appreciate when an author explains fact and fiction in building a story at the end. This was a very enjoyable read.
    Must listening
Wonderfully engaging!! I am ready to read more of the writings of Longfellow and Josi Kilpack.
    Enjoyable
I got into the story right away! It was very well done! It did seem to drag a little bit, however, it did not ruin it at all for me. There were several times in the recording where there seemed to be issues with volume where you could barely understand what was being said. There is no way it was for a dramatic effect either. Overall a very pleasant listen!
    Sweet Story.
Loved the story in its finest. Enjoyed the narrator. Captured my interest right away and my interest was fed through to the end. Glad was able to learn about Henry and Fannie's love story.
    Swoon worthy!
I loved this pure romance & the history it potrayed. The coutships back then were so pure, but still exillarating.

    I couldn't stand it
By the second chapter I knew this was a waste of time and $$. It has nothing to redeem it.
    Narrarator reads too rapidly
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
the reading was much too fast throughout the whole book. It was hard to keep up just listening to it.
Would you recommend Passage Through Time to your friends? Why or why not?
No, I wouldn't. The story was interesting but had too many holes for me.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kevin Theiss performances?
    I don't think so
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Passage Through Time?
I wouldn't have cut anything, but more effort could have been made to lay the storyline out.
    Any additional comments?
The reader's inflections were good, but he was reading at twice the pace needed to visualize what is being said.

    Genres: Romance, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
An enchanting blend of Victorian gothic romance, romantic comedy, and ghost story from the author of the Daphne du Maurier Award-winning With This Curse!
The year is 1873, and Sybil Ingram has come to a crossroads. Once she was the toast of the London stage, but now that she's 28 years old - very well, nearly 30 - her draw isn't what it used to be, and her theater troupe is foundering. When her trusted mentor asks her to take the blame for his financial misdeeds, Sybil sees no choice but to retire from the life she loves and move to America to marry New York City hotel magnate Alcott Lammle. But her path to happiness is cut short when Lammle dies suddenly - and in financial ruin.
Widowed, nearly penniless, and unable to return to England, the determined diva sets out to stake a claim on Brooke House, an eccentric neo-Gothic manor in the wilds of the Hudson River Valley. She soon finds, however, that a ghostly presence wants her gone. Even worse, her claim is challenged by the most insolent, temperamental, maddeningly gorgeous man she's ever met: Roderick Brooke, a once-famous former violinist whose career ended in a dark scandal.
Soon it's a battle of wills as Sybil matches wits - and trades barbs - with Roderick, finding herself increasingly drawn to him despite her growing suspicion that there is a connection between him and the entity that haunts Brooke House. But an even greater threat arises in the form of the mysterious, powerful queen of local society, Mrs. Lavinia Dove. For reasons that Sybil can't imagine, Mrs. Dove is determined to oust Sybil from her sphere...and the lengths to which she will go are chilling indeed.
By turns mysterious and moving, sparkling and spooky, Nocturne for a Widow follows a spirited heroine through adventures in life, love, and death. From the colorful theatrical world of late-Victorian London to the American wilderness, Sybil's travels will test her mettle - and her heart.
    Members Reviews:
    A comic gothic mystery
    Any additional comments?
"Nocturne for a Widow" is a gothic romance by Amanda DeWees following the footsteps of her Curse series. In this book, Sybil Ingram leaves the Victorian stages in London to marry an American admirer and begin a new life in New Your City. Of course, all her plans go sour and she finds herself in a haunted house disputing its ownership with her stepson, besides dealing with colorful neighbors and a possible ghost. The main female character had actually appeared briefly in With this Curse as Claras actress employer, and it was a nice nod to her previous books. The atmosphere of this book, however, is a bit lighter and funnier but without stepping out of the gothic genre, what is quite an accomplishment. The main characters, Sybil and Roderick, are mainly responsible for that because they are strong and colorful and their relationship has a comedic flavor that blends with the mystery inherent in the story with dexterity.
I believe DeWees is really good at creating interesting characters and has a superior writing, and her stories are quite stimulating, but without giving up the details of the plot, I found the ending lacking somehow, as the conflicts and mysteries are easily resolved. Maybe its because this book is the beginning of a series, some of the conflicts are going to be dragged to the next one.

    Just OK
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Finishing the series of the Flynn's made me anticipate the family of the Woodley's, but I was a little disappointed. It should have had more substance in the first half, not just sex.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The story got more interesting when the mother got sick and needed a doctor. The story went uphill from then on. Prior to that it was a little boring.
What aspect of Danielle O'Farrells performance would you have changed?
I do not like her, the male and female characters all sound the same.
    Any additional comments?
This story could have been a lot better if it had more to the plot. You learn from the beginning that Jude and Audrey are attracted to each other. Their story was predictable early on. You also knew there was a problem with Audrey's sister, Claire. That could have been developed more in the early parts of the book leading up to them finding her.

*** I received an AUDIOBOOK in exchange for an honest review. ***
    NARRATION IS WONDERFUL
When the writer knows what they are talking about, an honest review is simple.
LOVE MUST READ AND RE-READ !!
The writing pulls at your heart...makes you want to fight for love.
    Couldn't finish
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the reader has not whispered the entire story and sounded completely fretful.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The story was okay. I just couldn't listed to the reader.
How could the performance have been better?
Stop the breathy whispering. Use an emotion other than distress.
    Good Story and narration.
I enjoyed this story. I think it was a bit better than the first story in the series. Less angst and misunderstanding. I liked Eve and Colin. They were both strong characters and had some good chemistry together. There was a couple of nicely written sex scenes. Not over the top just nice.
The story line and plot was good. Interesting and there was a little bit of mayhap with a villain which is always good to have in a story. There is lots of dialogue. However, there were a bit too many internal thoughts going on which brought the story down a star. A little less internal thoughts is better in my opinion.
As for the narration, I am a Susan Duerden fan. She reads with emotion, the men sound like men, the women sound lovely and everyone gets their own distinct voice. She has a nice reading voice too.
I got this book as a free read with my KU subscription and 1.99 audible version, so it was a great deal for sure!
    Narration ruined the book!
The story was good, the characters kept my attention but the narration was so bad I just couldn't finish the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
Ed Talbot isn't husband material. He's an outlaw, was forced into his father's gang at the age of 13, and is wanted dead or alive in more than one territory. But now his father is dead, he hates the life, the blood, and his brother's rages. When a stagecoach robbery goes awry, Ed ends up with a satchel full of charming letters from an enticing young miss. Unfortunately for Miss Lizzie Cobb, her betrothed is now dead, and Ed Talbot sees a way out. Impersonating a fine, upstanding young man shouldn't be too difficult. Despite the risks, falling in love with her proves to be all too easy.
Isolated on her mother's ranch just outside of Tombstone, Miss Lizzie Cobb doesn't have the time or the means to find a respectable husband. As a half-Apache woman in the Arizona Territory, being a mail order bride seems like the only solution to her problem until she realizes that San Francisco is too far away, and she'll have to leave her vulnerable mother and baby brother behind. Her solution? Call off the wedding.
When her groom shows up on her doorstep, she's shocked. He's handsome, strong, and has traveled hundreds of miles to claim her. His kisses inflame her body and his presence soothes her soul. Falling for the rugged man is beyond her control. But the past has a way of catching up to outlaws, and facing the truth is going to be hard...for both of them.

Interesting Twist to Mail Order Brides
Mail Order Outlaw is a tale of a man trapped in a life he abhorred, and a woman trapped into a selfless life by duty to her mother and brother.
Ed risked death to escape his life as an outlaw. After robbing a stagecoach, in which his father was killed, Ed saw a chance to get away and took it, knowing if he was caught his brother would not hesitate to kill him. Nobody left their gang alive, and his brother enjoyed killing.
Lizzie couldn't bring herself to leave the ranch she loves and her family who needs her, thus calling off her "mail order" marriage. But when Ed shows up impersonating her mail order husband, Mal, she decides to give him a chance.
Can a life based on lies succeed? What will happen to Ed/Mal and Lizzie's plans for the future when Ed's cruel brother finds him? Can their love survive?
The narrator did a good job distinguishing people by voice changes, but the "matter of fact" way it is read was hard for me to get used to. Since it is an emotional story it would have been better to have it read with more emotion, in my opinion. Regardless, I enjoyed listening to Mail Order Outlaw.
    Lovely Western Historical

Her writing is smooth and even though the plot of a mail order bride has been used many times, she puts a fresh spin on this one. I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful book.
I am not going to do a synopsis because Ms. Woolf has accurately given a detailed one. Mail Order Outlaw is an entertaining read and captured my attention from the first page and held it until the end. The pacing is quick and lively, along with excellent dialogue between the hero and heroine and the supporting characters.
Lizzie Cobb is a wonderful heroine. She is loyal to her loved ones, honest to a fault and has an independent side, yet she also comes across as feminine.
