Love the cover,not the book

I bought this for my daughter who is nine. I love the cover artist and had bought a few of her art works before. The writing is as if written in the 1900's. It just doesn't make it a pleasant to read or experience. I love witches and the moon, so I was sad this was not good. I guess don't read a book by it's cover...

Minecraft lover reads in record time!

My little Minecraft could not put it down. I hope to buy hooks to keep her busy for a few days, these Minecraft books barely last one. Not because if length, because she likes to read them so much.

Unexpectedly Great

I am actually impressed by this book sad to think that this one is a lot better than goose bumps, I read some stories like the zombie king and they were great even my son loves them. I looking forward to the part 2 and I hope they will level with my expectations.

Kept my attention

It was alot of different stories and I perfer 1 long story. I would recommend it for kids and tweenies.

Students love them!!!!

I bought this book for my classroom. I read the short stories to my students. They love them! It is a struggle everyday to get my students to read or to find books that interest them. This book helps them to realize that there are books out there that can be enjoyable to read.

I read one of the short stories to them most days, and I have everyones attention. Some of the kids even like to act it out as I read.

I have book 2 as well, but I am looking forward to more of these books.

My son loves these books!

I bought this book for my 7 year old son (my older nieces and nephews loved it too) trying to get him interested in reading and he loved them! He especially loved that the stories were in Michigan. This book had great short stories for a quick read and surprise endings. I also bought the some of the A2Z Heroes series.

Wonderfully Creepy Tale for Middle Grade Readers

In a strange house with a stranger history, 12-year-old Lev begins to unravel family secrets that have been carefully hidden. Levâs sudden ability to draw makes the illustrations in the book somehow more real. They are a part of the story and not just pictures showing the story. The family Lev finds at his grandfatherâs old estate is filled with mysterious characters like a gray, little boy named Vanyousha.

As the story unfolds, we find ourselves in a story that brings a sad dread with it. Slowly, Lev begins to realize that there is more to his grandfather than the General he knew. The themes of destiny, friendship and family secrets are explored beautifully in this deeper-than-you-first-think mystery.

This is a wonderfully creepy tale for middle grade readers (ages 9-12 would be best) and perfect for our spooky autumn days. Itâs also a good way to introduce children to historical novels (historical Imperial Russia is a richly layered place to start) because the mystery will pull the readers through the history with an undeniable tension. Iâm planning on re-reading it with my tween who loves history, but hasnât gotten into reading mysteries. She loves a bit of a sad story, too and The Haunting of Falcon House will definitely satisfy that, too.

Gorgeous, haunting and deep

Twelve-year-old Prince Lev Lvov moves in with his aunt at Falcon House. It is a house that he will inherit as he is heir to the Lvov estate. Lev wants to be just like his grandfather, a general in the Russian army, stern and strong. Things are strange though at Falcon House where he finds wonders like an elevator in the home but also rooms that have not been touched in years. As he enters the home, Lev sees another young boy there, playing on the banister. Lev is sent to sleep in his grandfatherâs old study where he canât sleep and finds himself drawing and drawing with much more skill than he ever had before. In fact, he finds it nearly impossible to put the pen down. Slowly Lev starts to learn the secrets of his family and realize that some of the family secrets are more terrifying than ghosts.

Yelchin won a Newbery Honor for Breaking Stalinâs Nose. Here he very successfully merges historical Russia with a dark ghost story. Based on the premise of having found old notes and drawings from Lvov, the book is immediately mysterious and filled with wonder. There is the amazing setting of the huge mansion, filled with things like death masks and a basement of mothballed clothes. There are the servants who manage to work for his aunt despite her disdain and harshness. There is the ghost, who tells his own story but ever so slowly.

My Book of Sleepy Time Tales

An interesting collection of short tales. Some of them appealed to me more than others, but overall a nice collection.

The narrators alternated telling the tales and there were musical interludes between. There were a few minor hiccups with mispronunciations and a phrase being repeated.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Beautiful stories and Narrators

Narrators have wonderful voices and pacing for young listeners. I will enjoy listening to this again with my granddaughters! (When they get older, of course!)

New retellings and spins with our favorite classic characters.

Recommend strongly as a wonderful stocking stuffer.
