Fun and sweet

My 7-year-old son loved this book and found it hilarious. It also sparked some interesting conversations (both during and after the book, as he kept thinking about it) about what "tough" really means! I meant to only read him a few chapters this morning, but he insisted on hearing the whole thing over breakfast, and I was enjoying it so much, too, that it was easy to agree. :)

Loved by my Student!

I'm currently reading this with one of my ELL boys. He reads about a 3rd grade level. It's just enough picture support to aid him in the inferring and the big idea of the story. He is loving it and so did I. If you're using Fountas & Pinnel, I gauge it to be on the M-N level.

Fun read for a 5 year old book lover!

This was a surprise book for my 5 year old grandson. He wasn't sure about a book with 'Ratsos' in the title but he read it and re-read it and then read it every day.

1st Grade's Halloween Party Favorite Book!

The book was expensive, however it was a hit. I volunteered to read to the kids at my Son's school Halloween party and of the 3 books I brought, they wanted me to read this over and over. The illustrations are great and a little hint that the kids went crazy over - the monster's tail on the cover has a little gradient in it so it actually feels like a tail. Fantastic read.

I Love this book and the others as Well from the Same author. Monster toys are popluar right now and this book goes right along with them! The pages are Bright and Colorful and are not so easy for little ones to rip. Iâd Highly recommend this book and the others from this author as Well. Happy reading to your lil ones!

Pretty simplistic book, but fabulous for a young reader (ages 5-8) who might be into gymnastics. It was clearly something written to capitalize on the recent olympics, but am glad it was available for our young granddaughter.

I like the story very much.

"I wonder what will happen to the sassy unicorn with an annoying attitude". A asked this question to my daughter before letting her listen to this book. It is very cute and entertaining indeed.

this is the best of all the Oz books

In my opinion, this is the best of all the Oz books. It contains two parallel stories. In one, Dorothy and friends go on a marvelous tour of the land of Oz. In the other the evil Nome King plus a series of new and terrifying villains plan to conquer Oz. Fortunately, the Scarecrow and Ozma save the day. Greatly imaginative, filled with puns, whimsy, and containing Baum's wonderful set of imaginative characters, this is an Oz book that simply must be added to your bookshelf. Buy the illustrated version; it is exquisite.

The Oz books will always be an example of fairyland perfection. This is one of my very favorite of the series due to the dramatic clash of underground forces intent on penetrating and taking over Oz; very unique ending as they encounter the Forbidden fountain and experience its amnesiac effects along with a death and transfiguration motif. And so many of his main characters are women it raises the whole thing above gender altogether into a more universal picture. All about good and evil and their layered interactions.

Great series

I started reading this series with my son back in October. He turned 4 in June and we'd just started reading chapter books in the fall and I was looking for great stories without the presence of annoying pop culture. The Oz books were recommended by a trusted friend and I was skeptical at first, especially at his age, but the first book is so much better than the movie, and each subsequent book has been better than the last. After checking a couple different versions out from the library we now make sure to always get the books with the original illustrations by John R. Neill (the Dover 1980s and 90s reprints are the best). I don't know what we'll do when we reach the end of the series!

Beautiful edition!!

I ordered the entire set and love them! The printing stays true to original formatting and illustrations, many of which are in color. I consider the "Books of Wonder" series to be collectible-worthy for OZ book fans. They will look very nice on the shelf, and they will be wonderful copies of the stories to read aloud to my children, as they were read aloud to me.
