Every American is taught a pristine narrative of the life and legacy of George Washington and can easily recite the highlights of the "Father of Our Country". The remarkable Virginian led an under-resourced rag-tag army to ultimate victory in the American Revolution before becoming the nation's first president, setting it on its path toward superpower status. He may not have actually chopped down a cherry tree or tossed a silver dollar across the Potomac, but his contemporaries considered his character above reproach. When Washington voluntary resigned as commander of the armies, he stunned the world. Everyone in the colonies and the world realized that Washington, at the head of the last army standing in the colonies, could have made himself king of the new United States on the spot, and it would have been a move supported by his rank and file soldiers. Instead, Washington became the first Westerner to voluntarily demobilize his army, ensuring civilian control of the new nation. King George III called Washington "the greatest character of the age" for making that decision.
As President from 1788-1796, Washington set every precedent for the executive branch of the new government, from forming a "Cabinet" to limiting himself to two terms.

Read it with the kids while on American History Vacation
We were visiting Mount Vernon, Geo. Washington's home, and the visit generated questions re Washington's life, so I purchased this to read after our tours. It filled in some blanks in our understanding of America's revolution and Washington's life specifically. A good book for middle school age kids.
almost as good as the Civil War ones!
This book was very good! I think that when my brother is my age that he'll love this book because he's a Revolutionary War fan.

    Publisher's Summary:
Gabby was what you would call your average seven-year-old girl. Or at least she was average when you first met her. She had a big brother, she loved her mommy and daddy, she hated going to bed, and she definitely hated brushing her hair.
It was always the same every morning. She would put her clothes on and eat breakfast, but she just refused to brush her hair. No matter how much her mommy told her to do it, she didn't want to. She liked her hair being extra bushy and curly in the mornings. She called herself the little lion queen with her big mane.

    My daughter loves it
What did you like best about this story?
This is a nice story about cause and its effect. Little girl Gabby refused to listen to her mommy's advice and brush her hair and as a result of that, she got into a trouble. The story's domino effect serves as a cautionary and educational message for children. I think this audio book was great and definitely something little girls can relate too. My daughter loves it and now she brushes her hair much more often :)
    Loved the story !
Would you listen to The Girl Who Wouldn't Brush Her Hair again? Why?
This is a cute little story about a free-spirited girl named Gabby, who refused to brush her hair in the mornings. She loved her hair being curly and bushy and as a consequence she turned to a cat one day! My 7-year old daughter, who recently had her long hair cut, really loved this audio book and we are playing it often before our bedtime. I highly recommend audio book to both boys and girls, it has an important message about hygiene and why it is good to listen to your parents.
    Cute & Delightful
I found this audiobook to be delightful. I have a niece and nephew, around the same age. They also do not like to brush their hair. I plan to visit them this weekend and plan to listen to it again. This time with them. Hopefully, they will get the point. I will soon see, hopefully their parents will thank me.
    Adorable children's story
Imaginative and fun, a delightful short listen. Cute story, well delivered, and makes me want to not brush my hair!
Gabi really wanted to be a lion...
Gabi loved her hair full of tangles, like a bushy Animal.
Gabi had never asked to eat fish for dinner before. And milk?
She really wanted to be a lion. But soon no one recognized her.
The author weaves vivid instances where one sentence creates an entire scene, the mastery of storytelling. Hes clearly an artist and architect in forming a structure with strong plot points.
This book delivers. Listen to it!

So the first friend rowed as far as the first village. The second friend rowed as far as the second village. The third friend rowed as far as the third village. Then they began arguing about who would row the final stretch. While they argued, they were carried back downstream to where they had started.

    Publisher's Summary:
The Aldens are visiting the Alamo with their grandfather. They arrive at the Alamo to find that a movie is being made there - and they are going to be in it. But then things start to go wrong on the movie set, and a priceless ring from the Alamo Museum disappears. Are the two things connected? It is up to the Boxcar Children to solve this new puzzle!
    Members Reviews:
    Wrong About the Ring's Origin
The Boxcar Children are visiting San Antonio with their grandfather when they are asked to be extras on a film being made to teach schoolchildren about the Alamo. They soon discover something sinister is happening on the movie set. Little accidents and problems cause the schedule to get behind and the star of the show might get fired. When Angelina Dickinsonâs priceless ring goes missing, itâs up to Henry, Violet, Jessie, and Benny to solve the mystery and find out just who is causing all the trouble.
The Mystery at the Alamo is a short and simple book. Some things are correct, such as the fact that thereâs a wax museum right across from the Alamo, but there is a glaring error about the ring. According to the book, little Angelina Dickinson was given the ring by her father. This is not correct. The ring actually belonged to William Barret Travis and he gave it to Angelina. This is such a well-known story that it seems odd that the book would get it completely wrong. The descriptions of the film seemed weird since it somehow mixed grown-up Angelina Dickinson and Davy Crockett, something that is not at all possible. Also, when the ring went missing every single person involved suddenly seemed to get amnesia about what had happened minutes earlier. It was obvious who took it (though why was a slight surprise), but because everyone âforgotâ he had taken the ring and walked away from everyone else, the wrap-up was delayed and the normally sharp characters looked a little dumb for a while. Young children may like the book, but even my son (8 when he read it) thought the ending was weird and not believable.
    Remember the Boxcar!
My children love the adventures of the Boxcar Children and this story, based in our home town, was a pleasing addition to the series. As a parent, I'm a bit concerned that the wrong-doers usually get off the hook with a mere apology, even after causing significant trouble. However, this time the policeman did say he was going to talk to offender.

The soccer mystery and is a really good book
I think The Soccer Mystery is a good book. I think it's good a book is
because it is very detailed and it lets you know exactly what's going on.
I think kids 7-11 should read this book because it has no scary parts but it's also not romantic or calm.
    Entertainment for road trips!
I listen to a lot of audiobooks when commuting and during a two hour trip, my son asked if I could order him an audiobook about soccer. When I searched, this one came it. We listened and the two hours flew by! It's so entertaining and well read. The sound effects are great as well. I will definitely be ordering more!
