Young Daniel and his family live in a log cabin high on a Tennessee mountain. Whenever Daniel has time, he carves things out of wood. First he makes a beautiful dish for his mother. Then he tries a cup and a spoon. But Daniel wants to create realistic animals just like the famous woodcarver who lives in the valley. All winter long after supper, Daniel sits in front of the warm fireplace with his knife and a large piece of wood. He is working on a duck to sell at the spring fair in the valley. But when he finishes his sculpture, everyone laughs! In Clyde Robert Bullas heartwarming tale, a young boy learns there are different reasons for laughter. Narrator Jeff Woodman's delightful performance will captivate beginning readers and inspire them to read for themselves.

    NOT HARDCOVER as advertised...
Iâm sure the story is great, purchased for my husband who had fond memories of reading as a child. Low stare because it says I would get a hardcover book but is paperback.
I remember reading this in 1st grade, and now ...
I remember reading this in 1st grade, and now I read it to my kids. What a classic story. And it got my son into carving.

Wonderful Christmas Story for All Ages!
Where does Flury rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The best ever and I've listened to more than 200 of them.
What did you like best about this story?
This book is destined to be a classic, and not just for kids. Im 68 years old and I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my son, his wife, and my four grandchildren ( We listened on long car ride to Thanksgiving family reunion. ) We all loved it!It had two bullies to dislike, an unhappy diabetic boy to love, a tyrannical Grandma who is much more than she appears to be, several weird mysteries to solve and, of course, a giant snowman! Just searched and found this author has two other Christmas books: Claus: Legend of the Fat Man and Jack: The Tale of Frost. I now know what's next on my "must listen" list and I've found the perfect Christmas present for the grand kids!
What does James Killavey bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Excellent reading. Good voices. Good emotion when needed. First class. Glad to see the other two books are also read by him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I've leave that to the pros...hope they come up with a good one.
    Any additional comments?
If you are looking for an audio book the whole family will love, especially around Christmas time, this is the one. Really exceptional story and performance.
Wonderful book...Could not put it down.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
A very big YES! I figured it would take me or week or so to finish this. That's what is normal for a 9 hr book. Wrong! I finished it in one day. Just could not stop listening. Listened while preparing for Thanksgiving, listened while taking a walk, listened while just sitting. No TV for me today! My husband was getting a little frustrated at my having ear buds in all day but..if I can convince him to listen to it, I'm sure he'll understand
This was one incredible book. And let me emphasize that this is not JUST a kids book. Although they will love it. This is that rare kind of book that everyone can enjoy and that will leave you with a smile that may last for days! I plan to make this a once a year listen. ( if I can wait that long. ) Merry Christmas to all! This sure got me in the spirit, even though it's Thanksgiving day as I write this.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hard to chose but really liked Oliver and Molly.
Which character as performed by James Killavey was your favorite?
Again...hard to choose. He did them all well.

    Misprinted
My daughter loves pinkalicious books. Normally i would give five stars for these books but this one was not printed propertly. The first half of the book is printed twice and the second half is missing. In other words it goes pages 1-16 and then repeats 1-16. The end is missing.
... little ballerina's in the making so this book is perfect for them
My granddaughters are little ballerina's in the making so this book is perfect for them. The minutes I start to read it, they get up and dance for me, showing me how they can do the dances in the story too! So cute....
it was too easy for her
This is a quality read for our K, who read at a K or 1st grade level. By the end of the year, it was too easy for her, but a great book indeed.
Another Great Addition to the Pinkalicious Collection
Another great adventure for Pinkalicious and her family/friends. These stories are great for young readers.
    In the Pink
Our granddaughter loves all things Pinkalicious! I am hoping this will encourage pre-reading for our four-year old.

A brilliant series for a new generation of kids
Would you listen to The Worst Witch All at Sea again? Why?
Yes! It's an easy listen and in parts laugh out loud funny for 7 year old girls!
What other book might you compare The Worst Witch All at Sea to, and why?
The perfect introduction to the magical genre. My little girl (7) is a little too imaginative & sensitive for the Harry Potter books just yet but this makes the world of witches and wizards more accessible for a younger audience without the fear factor.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
My little girl listened to it on one journey to Scotland

... our school spring break and this book was the perfect vehicle for us to do just that
We were asked to discuss "bullying" with the kids during our school spring break and this book was the perfect vehicle for us to do just that. It was easy to understand and many children related to EllRays concern for his little sister. Over all it worked great for what we needed. I was very pleased with my purchase. It was in excellent condition.
    Four Stars
My son is entering the 3rd grade and loves reading the Ellray Jakes series!
    Five Stars
10 year old son loves the Ellray Jakes books!
    Bought for a gift.
My 8 year old niece said she enjoyed reading them but didn't capture her attention to actually finish. I purchased a few of this authors books and she only finished one.
    Girl stuff is gross?
I ordered several Ellray Jakes books, and I was excited to get books with a black protagonist for my son, but upon receiving them, I see that they are full of really negative gender stereotypes. We won't be reading these.

    Ghost!!!!
Fun read, Intertwined mystery. If you have a community theater group this goes right along with what can happen. Worth the time to read for fun.
    Double Mystery
Like many of the Boxcar Children stories, this one has a double mystery: something that looks as if it's one thing, but turns out to be two separate things. The story moves quickly and the theater setting is interesting. The dialogue sometimes seems too adult-like, especially for Benny, but the mystery itself, the pacing, and the solutions are fun.

Great read-aloud for "asking questions" reading strategy for first graders!
My first grade students loved this book! They were really amused how the little fish made little assumptions like, "And he probably won't wake up for a long time" and the picture would show otherwise (the big fish was actually awake!) This book served as a great mentor text for teaching the strategy of asking questions. Using turn & talk, the students asked questions before, during, and after reading. I kept adding them to our "Good Readers Ask Questions" chart. The book is not that long, but make sure you give the children enough time to look closely at the pictures to see how they contradict the main character's thoughts. The students came up with lots of questions that were left unanswered after reading which led to a very lively and engaging discussion! I highly recommend this book for early primary.
Quriky and Adorable...great for teaching prediction and critical thinking in young kids!
This is a quirky and delightful book about a fish who stole a hat from a very big fish. He is very boastful and thinks he can get away from the big fish! Turns out, things might be so easy for such a prideful little fish.
I think this book has been a great vehicle for delivering lesson on pride and boasting for some kids and it also helps with prediction! It is very convenient to stop at the pages and ask the child what they think might happen next. It is also a treat to talk about the somewhat open ending. It is clear to an adult or older child that the fish was probably eaten in the end...or was he?! It sure got some laughs from my 6-7 yr old crowd.
    Great book!
I love this book, and my students really seemed to enjoy it too! If you read this one, you need to read the other two in the series by Jon Klassen. The illustrations are simple and force the students to think about what happened in the story, since the author doesn't come right out and tell you.
    How I Love This Book
Oh, how I love this book. I first found this at our local library and checked it out just because of the title and the adorable fish on the cover. We started reading it to our newborn and I loved it from the first page. The illustrations are wonderful, with a slight reminiscence of Eric Carle. The story was so enjoyable that I had to purchase the book so that I would have it on hand to read to my daughter. I can't wait until she can read this aloud to me in the future :)
    I love this book
I love this book! We purchased it on a whim and my wife and I nearly died in hysterics by the ending. From the silent menacing victim to the "he went that-a-way" crab this book is a delight. If you are a fuddy-duddy you won't like this book because it has some dark humor for the adults who are actually reading it. I don't want to ruin the ending so I will say no more, but if you ever find yourself laughing at something in polite company only to receive glares, this book is for you!

    Ok...
    The Star Spangled Banner
I own an original from 1942 1st printing. I am glad to see it still around. It restores the values of our country.
The images are great you can study each one and see how we all rallied around our country and what made it great. It gives you a glimpse of the past and when we were very patriot oriented when we were in the IIWW. It is great for kids to see what our country was like then. Also how many of us can sing the 2nd verse of the Star Spangled banner let alone the 4th. It is all here. Own a great American book. Show your kids and grand kids a piece of history. you won't be disappointed.

    Must to Own for Kids
Are you patriotic? Is your kid patriotic? Are you growing them up and raising them to respect the flag, so they will not end up as disrespectful spoiled brats burning the flag? Then this is for you.
It is a beautiful illustrated song book of the Star Spangled Banner. It is the full song and the original version. It is well designed. It is a fine book at a bargain price.
I purchased this for my little Sun Goddess when she was little. Now she knows not just the national anthem but all the patriotic songs by heart. Every time she sees the flag, she puts her right hand on her heart and recites the song. I handed a patriot to the society. I am sure that she will not end up growing up as a spoiled brat needing âSafe Spaceâ, âRelaxation Roomsâ, âCrying Roomâ, âEveryone Wins a Trophyâ and âPolitical Correctnessâ!
Purchase this product and teach your children to be patriotic Americans and productive members of the society. Avoid future pains by handing future parasitic creatures to the society.
    Five Stars
Excellent. Such a fun patriotic very American story/song with simply Gorgeous pictures(as all the d'aulaire books have)!!
    Very informative
Since I live where the poem was written I feel very close to the history of this poem and the meaning behind it
