    Clever and entertaining
This story about a foolish but gallant gentleman and his loyal and resourceful servant will remind you of Don Quixote and other classics but is fresh and enjoyable. In addition to being an entertaining story, it is also satirical and can be enjoyed by a broad range of ages. If you like Philip Pullman's other stories in the fairy-tale genre (such as Clockwork and Count Karlstein), you will probably like this, which is just as clever but funnier.

    Magical Storytelling
This is truly a children's classic, beautifully narrated with excellent accents and clear speech. It does this classic novel proud, and I'm glad its part of my audio collection.
One small technical note: the person who spliced the chapters together left absolutely no space between the last word of one chapter and the name of the next chapter. So Chapter 1 ends as: "... and the little rustling snakeChapter 2..." How this got through Audible's quality control beats me.
    Classic story, good narrator
This is such a wonderful story. I read The Secret Garden over and over as a girl, and still never tire of it. (The same is true of The Little Princess.) I love how real the two children at the heart of the story are, and how their growth as characters is so dramatic but also generally very believable.
Audible has several editions of the Secret Garden, so I listened to samples of all the readers and ended up choosing this one. I'm glad -- the narrator does a very nice job of conveying the spirit of the characters without letting her own interpretation get in the way of the story as written. My only complaint is the same as the previous reviewer's; the editing of this audiobook left no space whatsoever between the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next, and so each time a new chapter begins, it is quite jarring.
    Perfect Diction
This was only the second book that I have downloaded from Audible.com and once again it was for the entertainment of my granddaughter whilst she sits in the car with me. This review is really feedback from her listening intervention. She was thoroughly delighted with the manner in which the reader brought the book to life using the most perfect diction and characterisation of voices. The storyline was so easy to follow and because of the interesting way in which the reader chose to dialogue, my granddaughter remembers at least 50% more of the story than she would had she read it for herself.
I really enjoyed listening to this myself and found myself getting drawn into the story.
    Keep up the good work.
    Excellent re-read
There is so much more to this book than I got out of it as a child. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars was the disconcerting way in which new chapters were introduced - with absolutely no pause between the last word of the previous chapter and the announcement of the next. This may have been a problem created when editing the sound track since it seemed inconsistent with the rest of the reading. All in all I did enjoy listening.
    A Classic!
This book is wonderful, and it was very well narrated and easy to follow, even for my 5-year old troublemaker. After seeing it on film, in various productions, hearing it again in its unabridged format brought back to me the whole story, in all the richness of detail that no movie can portray. I think this book is particularly suitable in Audible format.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 15 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-29-04
    Publisher: HarperAudio

    Publisher's Summary:
But change is inevitable, even on the prairie. Something new is expected, and Sarah says it will be the perfect gift. Cassie isn't so sure. But just as life changes, people change too. And Cassie learns that unexpected surprises can bring great joy.
More Perfect than the Moon invites us back to the Witting family farm, visited in the Newbery Medal-winning Sarah, Plain and Tall, Skylark, and Caleb's Story. With her lyrical prose, Patricia MacLachlan writes about a family's boundless capacity for love.
    Critic Reviews:
"As always, MacLachlan's lyrical prose conveys volumes in a few well-chosen words. Solid, believable characters face classic dilemmas, yet the ending feels neither pat nor predictable." (Booklist) "Another heartwarming installment in the saga of the Witting family, first made famous in Sarah, Plain and Tall....In true MacLachlan fashion, the spare, graceful writing sparkles with fresh images, and the first-person point of view rests firmly with the child." (School Library Journal)

Continues the Sarah, Plain and Tall series
Where does More Perfect than the Moon rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I've listened to several books over the past few years. This one, though read by Glenn Close, whom I greatly admire as an actress, is not one of my favorites. I found her voice as Cassie a bit annoying.
    Any additional comments?
Overall, the reading of this book is a little too

  • Just So Stories Audiobook by Rudyard Kipling
Please open https://hotaudiobook.com ONLY on your standard browser Safari, Chrome, Microsoft or Firefox to download full audiobooks of your choice for free.
    Title: Just So Stories
    Author: Rudyard Kipling
    Narrator: Geoffrey Palmer
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-24-04
    Publisher: Naxos AudioBooks
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 64 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Here is the complete and unabridged collection of Rudyard Kipling's delightful Just So Stories, which he first told to his own children before setting them down on paper: How the Camel Got His Hump, How the Leopard Got His Spots, How the Elephant Got His Trunk, The Butterfly that Stamped, and many others. Written in the late 1800s and first published in 1902, these enchanting animals remain unforgettable, over 100 years later. To hear these magic fables by a master of children's literature is to enjoy them.
    Editorial Reviews:
These literate and imaginative beast fables contain serious moral messages, but 101 years after their publication children still love them because they're fun. Kipling believed his stories should be read aloud, "just so," and narrator Geoffrey Palmer is just superb. He reads with the gentle assurance of a beloved grown-up, providing Kipling's wildly improbable explanations to inquisitive children. We discover "How the Whale Got His Throat," "How the Camel Got His Hump," "How the Alphabet Was Made," and much more. From South Africa to Jerusalem, from the mid-Atlantic to a fictional island in the Red Sea, all are set in that wonderful place where animals can talk. This charming production includes a snippet of classical music as a prelude to each of the 12 stories.
    Critic Reviews:
"This collection includes Kipling's 12 original Just So Stories narrated by Geoffrey Palmer, whose deep and resonant voice is perfectly suited to the tales. It is satisfying to hear the stories as they were meant to be told - aloud." (School Library Journal)
    Members Reviews:
A wonderful reading of a terrific collection!
These stories are excellent for both children and adults. My 4 year old loves them as have my nephews (10 and below), my Godchildren (10 and below) and all of the adults associated with these children, including my mother. Kipling is an imaginative author with a knack for storytelling. His wild and interesting explanations for the world around us are captivating and humorous.
I enjoyed reading the stories myself, but didn't understand the significance of certain phrases until I heard this read by Mr. Palmer. He does an excellent job. His reading is clear and easy to understand, not too quick, but not dragging. He "does the voices" and reads every word or sound written in Kipling's stories. His treatment of certain phrases (for instance, "...for all the gold in Arabia..." and "humph", both from the story of How the Camel Got Its Hump) gave me a more accurate idea of what the author was trying to convey with that choice of words. Mr. Palmer reads the asides (the bits directed to the listener, "Best Beloved") smoothly, incorporating them into the overall story beautifully - not as true interruptions.
I highly recommend both Kipling's Just So Stories and Mr. Palmer's reading of same.
    Not really written for adults.
I disagree with Tea Thymes opinion that these stories are excellent for both children and adults. They may be fun to listen to while traveling with your children or grandchildren while you can enjoy the childrens reaction to the stories, but they were way too simple for me to listen to on my own.
I often enjoy books that are supposedly for children or young adults. I think that the Harry Potter series is the best piece of fantasy I have read (and listened to).

Wonderful book. Ruined by this audio.
What a shame. This is a wonderful book had a wonderful story but this audio gets in the way of the story. The different characters voices are unnecessary and feel insincere. The main narrators style is condescending, as if he's telling the story to a two-year-old. This is not a book for a two-year-old. This is not on a level with Winnie the Pooh but more like Harriet the spy or a story and older child can really get into. It would've been much better with one reader who told the story sincerely. I read this to everyone of my children, nieces and those I babysit for is a teenager. I wish audible had let me do it :).
My recommendation is to buy the book and read it to your child yourself. You will both enjoy the experience.
    OK for children 6-9
This is not for older children. My son who is 10 and I were very bored. It may be cute for younger children.
    Loved It!
We listened to this in the car on the way to/from school. The kids would race to the car each day so we could resume the story.
    classic book
the book is a real treat while being actually narrated by the author. excellent work
A book everybody must read young & old
This fun to read book has lots of great life lessons and is a must read reguardless if you are young or young at heart. David goes on many adventures with The Phoenix and there is a great lesson to be learned with each one. I think this book needs to be listened to by anyone who has ever lost a loved one, human or animal, or great for those who will lose someone in the future. I listened to this wonderful production just as if I was a kid again. Eyes wide open, sitting on the couch amazed at what was going on, and waiting to find out what was next.
The book paints some beautiful pictures in that movie of the mind and even better, its narrated by the author, you just can't ask for much more than that.
