Publisher's Summary:
Since her arrival in northern Spain, vivid visions have haunted Andrea. In her visions, she sees Julian, the man she loves, being killed by sword. Julian broke up with Andrea out of jealousy and pride, but when she's buried under a slide, he comes searching for her. Soon after they are reunited under the mountain, a portal opens and sends them back in time, to the year AD 718, seven years after the last Spanish king was defeated by the Arab invaders.
Separated by a bitter winter, Andrea and Julian are caught in opposite sides in the battle between the last unconquered Spanish settlements and the Arabian army. It is a battle for survival that will determine the fate of a nation and demand of them the ultimate sacrifice. As the Arabs close in on the mountains, Julian makes a decision that will break Andrea's heart and change them forever.

but it was fine hereâno worries about grandfather paradoxes and such
The author graciously sent me a copy of the book, and I started to read it, but ended up spending quite a bit of time in the hospital, where I could not read anything on my iPad. I was really excited to read it because it touched upon the Arab occupation of Spain, something we donât see too much of in YA or even modern literature, given how politically volatile anything related to Islam is these days.
It is a time-travel novel, and that usually isnât my thing, but it was fine hereâno worries about grandfather paradoxes and such, because by the end, you realize that Andrea and Julian were sent back in time for a good reason. Itâs not confusing or head-scratching, and it all resolves itself in the end. By the way, the end was awesome, and really cool. Iâm a history nerd, and I loved the setting. Iâm Spanish on both sides of my family, and there just arenât enough fantasy novels set in Spain.
The romance is wonderful too - not too sappy. I teared up at certain parts, especially near the end, when Andrea experiences a significant loss.
Thanks so much to the author for sending me a copy, and I apologize for taking so long to finish it. I received this copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this story
I absolutely loved this story. It's a nicely told fantasy with engaging characters that held my interest without a problem. I loved the description of the mountains, discovering the history and legend that were included in the course of the tale, and reveled in the complexities of Andrea and Julian's relationship. The time travel aspect was interesting and while normally I would want to remain with just one character throughout the course of a story, I found I actually enjoyed the switching from Andrea to Julian and back. I would definitely recommend it.
