Justice without mercy is incomplete
Pope Francis, the first pontiff from the Western Hemisphere, assumed office with an objective of bringing the Catholic Church back to its mission of ministering to the poor and downtrodden. While not rebuking much of the churchâs dogma, Francis has nonetheless placed great emphasis on the mission of showing mercy and humility as a path to grace. In The Name of God is Mercy, done in the form of an interview by Vatican reporter Andrea Tornielli, Francis, from his view as a priest and a man, maintains that mercy is a central tenet of Godâs teaching and that justice without mercy is incomplete, while mercy without justice is also lacking. Repetitive in many instances, the book nonetheless gives a rare and in depth insight into the thinking of one of the first truly reform Popes in the history of the Catholic Church, and provides information that applies to the world we face today regardless of our religious beliefs.
