Where had everything gone wrong?
Russ Kildare faces the harsh realities of a life turned on end after his college sweetheart - the woman who taught him to overcome the dyslexia that got him kicked out of seminary - is murdered. His grief and anger dictate his decision process and destroy his family.
In this true story, Russ must confront the murderer, Robert Williams, and decide whether to forgive, condemn, or to minister. The clock is ticking, as Williams is scheduled to die in Nebraska's electric chair. His decision will force him to face the demons of his own past, and the resulting inner journey will either destroy him or leave him forever changed.
Critic Reviews:
"Walk Me Home is a big-hearted story, told with clarity and adroitness, so perfectly capturing the essence of Nebraska from 1969 onward. I saw my childhood flash before my eyes." (Harley Jane Kozak, two-time winner of the Nebraska Book Award)

Very interesting. The trials and triumphs of life. I am going to read it again!
This was definitely the most intriguing book I've read in a long time. After about 2 chapters I was ready to put it down, but I persevered, and now I'm glad I did. This is a human drama that happens too frequently. The author must have been close to there to be able to write with such clarity and ethos. To say I enjoyed it, yes but it upset me that I could just envision the whole story, and I felt their loneliness, and helplessness. I kep reading hoping that it would get better, I can't say any more,.
Fascinating examination of real people surviving a horrible tragedy
Walk Me Home is an insightful look into a real-life tragedy. As Russ Kildare learns to deal with his dyslexia, he grows ever closer to Cathy, a fellow student at the University of Nebraska. Unfortunately, Cathy becomes the victim of a horrible crime, and we are with Russ as he works through his anger and his grief to find forgiveness for the man who took Cathy away from him. The first part of the book is a study in getting to know Russ better so we can understand his actions later. I rate this a 4.5 stars, rounding up because Ms. Kovanda's writing feels like a friend telling a fascinating story.
A Real ManâImperfect
Kovanda knocks it out of the park as always. This man is so many thingsâa priest, a soldier, a cop... but he is also a man who makes mistakes. He is a real man, imperfect and unpolished. But yet, he is still a man who loves one woman to the end. This is a moving story, beautifully written.
Five Stars
It was an easy read and kept you interested cover to cover.
Lisa Kovanda does it again!
Sometimes you try to do everything right and it just turns out completely wrong. Russ Kildare knows that only too well that. Decisions he made in his stormy youth follows him through his life and punch him in the stomach every once in a while. As I read, there were so many times I just shook my head and thought "Oh no. This can't happen." But it does. It really does...and it makes the reader wonder what's around the bend. What more can happen?
This well crafted story is laced with emotions ranging from anger to pathos,. As if that isn't enough, there's a whole lot of soul searching going on. I found myself wondering "What would I do if I were in his shoes?" I don't honestly know if I would be as noble.
