Jon Gilligan is the only man with a pulse in a city of the undead.
It's his job to maintain order between the factions of walking corpses and disembodied spirits.
The workload has been driving him a little insane, leading him to take on the persona of a noir detective. He narrates his adventures, casting himself as a hero to all those under his watch.
But soon, it's time for him to be a hero for real. Teaming up with a ghost and a woman they both love outside the walls, it's up to the three of them to save Dead City from itself.

not a bad thing, unusual
Kindle Unlimited or got on freebie day depending on which story/collection. Very odd writer, not a bad thing, unusual, and for someone such as me that read, a LOT {10-20 or more book, a DAY} that's saying something. See the list of books below? That's just not a be nice and list them all, that's the list of books am reading at this sitting, pretty sure that was all of them. If I missed any or it says not verified {because no matter how many hundreds have spent over the last 3 years, plus ku, never says verified on mine unless freebie day etc} the writer can feel free to send them to me lol {serious not serious but mostly serious}. The more I read of him, the more the southern 'bless his heart' kicks in, wondering just how many times and ways that poor boy was dropped on his head, how hard, and if on purpose. Interesting reading though...because of?

Pretty heavy stuff
I am not a zombie person. The whole premise is just to nihilistic to suit me. Zombies aside, there is more to DEAD CITY than just zombies. It is rather an allegory of our times that takes in the the divisive nature of our society as is often expressed through our politics. Pretty heavy stuff!
The dividing line is not religious, nor is it nationalistic. It is much simpler. The us and them of DEAD CITY are the living and the dead... or living challenged, not all of whom are zombies. You have your everyday spirits, poltergeists, and ghouls to round out the mix.
It would seem that every major city has its own Dead City. The one here is located in London. We are given glimpses of other Dead Cities... New York and Shanghai. There are huge, physical walls that separate the unliving from the living. See what I mean about an allegory for our times? And, there are more than just walls to equate with today's dirty politics.
DEAD CITY could use a once over by a good beta reader to work out a couple of kinks here and there, but overall, it is a quick read and definitely worth a look.
I downloaded DEAD CITY from Story Cartel with the promise of a review.
