    Title: Grace in the Wilderness
    Subtitle: After the Liberation 1945-1948
    Author: Aranka Siegal
    Narrator: Christina Moore
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 1 min
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-20-12
    Publisher: Recorded Books

    Publisher's Summary:
Because she is Jewish, 14 year-old Piri has been held prisoner in Nazi concentration camps for two years. She is freed when Bergen-Belsen is liberated, but she is very ill and has deep psychological scars. In a voice full of innocence and courage, Piri tells how she got through the first years after the Holocaust.
Piri and her sisters are taken by the Red Cross to Sweden, where people prove to be most generous and humane. But Piri still longs for her home in Hungary. As she makes friends, falls in love, and goes to live with a Swedish foster family, Piri shares her most intimate feelings and thoughts.
Aranka Siegal is the author of the Newberry award-winning Upon the Head of the Goat. In this moving sequel, Christina Moores expressive performance as Piri intensifies the bittersweet effect of her compelling story.

The ultimate defeat of Hitler - by a very young Hungarian Girl named Piri
It is a wonderful account of a very sensitive yet girl of great moral reserves, finding her way in a post-concentration camp
existence, with a shrewd and totally engaging approach in Sweden, which may simply have been on a different planet from her
    experiences in a war-torn Europe in 1944-1945.
It is a great pity that there does not seem to be a follow on from when she arrives in the United States and the ensuing years.
The photograph on the back-flap of the cover seems to provide a commitment to life which helped her to cope and simply
embodies a spirit that even Hitler could not conquer.
This book should be read by everyone. The style, the world-view, the multiple predicaments mirror to some degree the predicaments
of all of humanity, intensified by the pain of any survivor experience. I wish that she would publish the sequel, as to how the
healing process helped to cope with the loss of her beloved family. Inevitably they remain alive to all decent minded people thanks to the book.Yet one mourns with the author their cruel physical fate and feels the loss of life on a very personal level.
    Such a good sequel
I read this book after reading Upon the Head of the Goat by the same author. Upon the Head of Goat is a rare first hand experience of a child during World War II and life in a concentration camp. Grace in the Wilderness continues where the first left off and we find out what happened to this young lady after she was saved by the allied forces. I cried so reading both these books and would love to meet Aranka Siegal, I believe she is still alive but she has to be quite old now. My life will never be the same after reading this first hand account of her life. Both of these books are spectacular, the first won a Newbery Award.
It was a good follow up to the 2nd book and filled in ...
It was a good follow up to the 2nd book and filled in a lot of details of her life. Really enjoyed it.y
    Crummy ending
This book begins with the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp at the end of the Holocaust. Fifteen-year-old Piri and her older sister Iboya have managed to stay alive and together throughout the war, and now they are free. Unfortunately, they have no home. They don't think any of their family members have survived, and they don't even try to go home to their old house, afraid of what they would find.
Instead, the girls are taken by members of the Swedish Red Cross to Sweden, where they are placed in a boarding school until they grow old enough to work.

    Review From a Dancer
This book was excellent and I would suggest it to all of the girl on my dance team. Heck I'd recommend it to all the girls in my performing arts school! I absolutely love it and will definitely read it again!
Very well written too! I can't wait to read what else Dani Spevak has in store for us!
    A really fun read!
Codename: Dancer is the debut YA novel by author Amanda Brice, and the first in a series centering around aspiring dancer Dani Spevak, Being a lover of all things dance-related, I was delighted to read a book centered around the dance world. Dani is a high school freshman, and a new student at a performing arts boarding school in Arizona. Initially excited to have been selected as a dancer on a reality show, things change for her quickly as things begin to go wrong, usually with her at it's center. The action and suspense were nonstop from the beginning of the book as Dani and her friends tried to figure out who was behind the sabotage. Although I think the book is geared to younger teens, the story is a good one, and definately keeps your attention with its twists and turns. The author captured the mood and character of the age very well, even touching on some more serious issues that a lot of girls today face. I definately recommend this book, and the series, to high school age or a little younger. The next book in the series, Pointe of No Return, comes out in November 2011.
    A solid debut
If you buy this book expecting a high-school equivalent of ALIAS, adjust your expectations. Codename: Dancer is not quite as spy-oriented as the title makes one expect, but Dani Spivek does make for an interesting modern day Nancy Drew.
If dancing isn't your thing, be aware that there's dancing, as well as dance terminology, and a lot of it in Codename: Dancer.

Don't waste your time with this book....
What disappointed you about Dark Water?
This book is very slow, the story has no consistency. The things that happen in históira appear out of nowhere and disappear in the same way. There is an interesting connection with the previous two books. In short, the story leaves you many references.
What was most disappointing about Tricia Rayburns story?
the lack of a logical sequence that links the events in Primiero book in the series to úlitmo. Besides the fact of history present facts that are not explained. The information
How did the narrator detract from the book?
It's a combination of factors - history unattractive, uninteresting voice, annoying characters ...
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dark Water?
    I rewrite the entire series.
    Any additional comments?
I listening the serie because I had bough and hope that things would improve. But, don't waste your time with this book (or series).
Is This the End of the Story?
This is an excellent conclusion to a very interesting story based on siren lore. The series gives us insight into every girl's fantasy of being irresistible to the opposite sex. It also shows us that such attraction isn't necessarily a good thing, as it can seriously damage a committed relationship. The necessity of taking lives in order to keep living is disturbing. This very serious problem is not resolved. Perhaps the story isn't over yet.

    Fun Story!
I love Rachel Hawthorne. I read this book in my teens, and I still enjoy the story into my mid-twenties. It's a fun and easy read - I recommend any of her books for beach reads or plane rides.
    Traditional read
I read this book every summer and every time I laugh, I cry, and I feel for the characters. Hawthorne did an amazing job of putting you in the shoes of a senior about to go off to college!

I loved the main characters and the story altogether. It's different, but also good for teens. It gets more interesting as you go.
    Five Stars

    An action packed thriller!
I couldn't put the book or audio book down! I wanted to finish it in one sitting.
Aaron Stevens, son of Derek, finds himself in the robbers hideaway location. Understanding the importance this situation might have on his fathers business and the towns economics he decides to get involve. But as any thriller goes, he gets too involved and now the robbers are after him. Will leave it at that so I dont get too much into spoiler territory.
Really enjoyed the narration, it helped me more in really envisioning each scene and or character. The book and narration is read as movie or story board, and that helps the reader to feel like he/she is part of the story. Narration is not monotone there is a slight difference when each character is speaking during the narration. The audio is as intense as the book and that is something I love about audio books. I found myself so enthralled by the story, that I could just focus on the readers audio and nothing else.
I have read the book to my son but he also heard the audio book and he loved it. And this coming from a boy that doesnt like reading its saying a lot! So I am very pleased with this.
    Narration Wise:
Pacing of the narration at some points was too fast at least for me, but in my case English is my second language. I have read the book before, so knowing the story helped. Nevertheless since the story is very fast paced and action filled the readers pacing fits the book appropriately. Readers tone is good and understandable. Since it is just a one-voice reader, slight differences between each character speaking are present. I havent had many experiences with Elmores narration style, but it serves this book purpose and carries the story well. I personally like the words intonation of any reader, and Elmores rendering is adequate according to the characters in hand. Personally, when chapters are made a reference to I prefer they be read as Chapter 2, instead of just 2; that just takes me some time to get used to.
Technically speaking, it was kind of distracting at first that sound-wise it sounded like a far-away echoic recording. At one point an apparent voice-over was made and the narrations volume went up.
Nevertheless, I recommend this audio book as well as the book; it is an easy read and very good story for anyone.

bringing the classics in touch with reality
i read this book when i was very young, but i remember it as if it were yesterday. it was what started getting me hooked on the study of mythology.
this book brought the distant and ancient classics to light and showed me the human side to these epic heroes. instead of the monster myths make medea out to be, i felt sympathy for her after reading this book.
i highly recommed it to anyone of any age. if you can't find it through and out of print book search, find it at a library. i'm serious. you won't be disappointed.
    A Wonderful Read
I loved how this book put Medea into a new light. This book shows how I always imagined Jason- a self-absorbed jerk. one line that he says, it just took my breath away with how harsh it was. A really good read, with lively characters. Very sad, but beautiful.

    Publisher's Summary:
Harold Schernoff, fourteen-year-old science whiz and social outcast, has a theory to solve every problem, from dating to dealing with bullies, to making money, to playing sports, to buying a car when youre underage. Want to learn to ski? Try: Mass x acceleration x slope of hill = EEEEEAAGGHHH! Heres another surefire formula: Golf balls + car = BANG!Science turns slapstick when Harold and his buddy team up to test Schernoffs Discoveries.
Only Harold could mastermind such a disastrous first date. Only Harold could go fishing and get caught by the fish. And only Gary Paulsen, one of todays most popular authors for young people, could write such a wonderfully funny novel about friendship.
    Members Reviews:
    Hilarious Harry
The Schernoff Discoveries is a quick moving, funny book about friendship. The story takes place in Minnesota, in two small towns called Hilard and Peat roughly 10 years ago. Gary tells the story about different hilarious challenges two good friends faced at fourteen years of age and what became of them.
I like The Schernoff Discoveries because it is about what happens in school and includes important issues like friendship and dealing with peer pressure. The main characters are Harold and Gary. They are two kids from different sides of the tracks. Harold is smart and daring; Gary is cautious and not so smart. One good example of Harold being daring and Gary being cautious, Harold decided that they needed to go skiing, because girls liked skiers. Harold read in a book on how, even though Gary was against this idea, he went along anyways. They should have listened to Gary. They enjoy school and like girls a lot. They figured out a way to change their schedules so that they would be the only boys in the Home Economics classroom full of girls. This worked for them because they could get to know the girls without competition or insults from other boys. On the downside, the boys were picked on for being the only boys in the room, especially by the football team. With the help of the Home Economics class, the girls and Harold were able to get even with the football team. They enjoy each other's friendship and play jokes on each other, even though others around them make fun of them calling them "geeks" and "nerds".
The story is very funny because during the story Gary talks about things he and Harold have done in the past. Gary is the one telling the story because Harold is the one who is always coming up with ideas for new ways to make money. Harold decided one day that they needed a car. It didn't matter that they weren't old enough to drive. Harold discovered a way for them to make a lot of money at a golf course, which they later used the money to buy the perfect car for a fourteen year old. All through the story Harold helps Gary with bullies and school by playing tricks on the bullies. Gary looks up to Harold because he is smarter than Gary. Gary comments, "Harold is good at everything, except fishing." Harold would try anything he had never tried before, but he would visit the library first. He had never tried fishing and decided he wanted to. He figured that Gary could teach him. Harold came equipped for a major fishing tournament; Gary came with string, hook and worms. This turned into a learning experience; Harold was able to hook everything, except a fish.
I would recommend this book to 6th and 7th graders because it is more at their reading level.

    I LOVE IT!!!
I think it describes everything so well and just makes everything better it was really good and it cept me on my toes
    Good book
This is a good book, but there are mistakes in it. Sometimes there are 2 spaces. Other than the mistakes it is a great book. I personally think the send book is better.
Fun story not just for kids
Picked this one out for my 11-yr old G-daughter's new Kindle, and thought I should read it first myself. It was fun enough to keep me reading, and real enough to make me glad I didn't pass it up. The mystery of who killed the cat is very well handled, and with a 12-yr old protagonist as the star, I know my G-daughter is going to love it.
    Cute story!
This seems like it will be a cute story and is off to a good start. I like how it wastes no time and jumps right into the story right off the bat. We see the main character, what I assume will be most of the supporting cast, and the primary conflict - all in the first few pages. The style is appropriate for the age of the intended audience. I liked the mystery over who did indeed kill the cat, because I trust the main character is telling the truth. I also like the suspense created over not wanting her to get in trouble back home for a crime she didn't commit, and the mystery of not knowing what exactly she did at home that could have landed her in such serious hot water that a twelve-year-old would be under house arrest. The only problem I had was I wished the author would divulge the age of the main character sooner. I had a feeling it was a younger kid but when the subject of her trial back home came up that threw me for a loop, thinking maybe she was older than I thought, only to find out almost at the very end of the excerpt that I my original assumption was correct. Other than that, I liked the story and think younger readers will enjoy it as well. Good luck in the contest!
    Lessons to be learned.
This was a very interesting story...although it was from a child's viewpoint, everyone could benefit from the lessons to be learned that were presented in the tale. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I even learned a few interesting things myself and I'm 62..

    Publisher's Summary:
Assigned to write an autobiography, high-school senior Robert Radkovitz instead creates a sound portrait of his life as he remembers it. Looking back, he hears his mother's singing, his grandmother's mysteries, Mexican soap operas, Poe, poetry, and, most cherished, the voice of his absent father from a single tape of one of his radio shows.
Told in a collage of voices, Seek describes Rob's search for his father, a search pursued not through San Francisco's streets, but through the labyrinth of the airwaves. Psychic readers, baseball announcers, pirate DJs, friends, and teachers join a rich, ringing aural autobiography that's as joyfully comic as it is compelling.
    Members Reviews:
    And ye shall find
The idea of writing children and teen books that should ideally be read aloud is not particularly common. Just the same, author Paul Fleischman has excelled at it time and time again. Long ago when I was young and unappreciative of anything that didn't involve "The Phantom of the Opera" (don't ask...it was a faze) I was given Fleischman's lovely Newbery Award winning, "Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices". I didn't really take to the book, partly because I was a little old for it when it first came out. Looking back at it recently, I could acknowledge that it was a lovely idea wrapped up in a succint little book. Fast forward some thirteen odd years later to the publication of "Seek". A particularly daring young adult novel, Fleischman has written a tale that is so flexible that it can either be read on the page or heard in a form of Reader's Theater. This is perhaps the first book I've read that was meant to be read on the radio.
Robert has a happy life in many ways. Living in San Francisco he shares a home with his adoring mother, grandfather, and grandmother. He has multiple aunts that dote upon him and a stable home. Though Robert appreciates these things, it's the absence of his father that affects him the most. Lenny, Robert's pop, left his mother when he found out that she was pregnant with their child. Because his father was a radio dj, Robert has a tape of one of Lenny's radio shows. Using this voice as a guide, the son embarks on a quest to ride the radio waves to find his missing dad. Covering a scope of many years and tracking Robert's heartbreak and eventual acceptance, the book is written like a radio program. Songs, snippets of voices from the past, sound effects, fades, crossfades, and other techniques all give the viewer a multi-layered look into one boy's head.
Reading this book, I admit right here and now that I was shocked at how mature "Seek"'s style was. I thought I was going to read your normal run-of-the-mill teen novel. Instead, I was caught completely off-guard when I found myself reading "We hear a wordless recording of wetland sound effects". From page one you realize that this is not teen drivel. It takes a bit of maturity and effort to get the feel of the book at the start. I can guarantee, however, that if you keep going you'll find yourself amply rewarded with a story that is as honest as it is enjoyable. Authors tend to play with fire when they introduce the parents-split-up-and-child-decided-to-find-one/get-them-back-together plotline.

The Realm: The Awakening Begins is one heckofa rollercoaster ride! Suspense, fear, joy, love, peace, hopelessness and hope all wrapped up in one book with great, believeable characters. Glanville certainly has the ability to make you feel you are truly "there".
As a homeschooler, this is a book I will share with students in our local Co-op. The hope it brings while wrapped around such a great story will encourage many a reader, no matter what age. I have read it, (I'm 44), my son is reading it, (he's 15) and any age will be touched by the honesty portrayed by Glanville's characters.

    Excellent book!!
I really enjoyed this book. The writer did well in describing the scenery, it was as if i was there. When Graisia has her dreams I really thought I was there! This book has a great message of the difference between love and hate, light and dark and it is excellent for the pre-teen to teen readers as well as adults. It is a cross between J.K Rowling's Harry Potter books and Frank Perretti's Piercing the Darkness and This Present Darkness books. It will keep you wanting to read more. This book is the first of the series and I look forward to her second one later this year. I recommend pre-teens and up to read it.
Brings spiritual awareness through a great story
This is a story about the spiritual realm which is fictionalized and slightly allegorical in nature. It comes very close to the real thing however. On the surface Glanville provides a setting which comes alive as a third world country in the modern era where survival is the primary business du jour. Under the surface, however, we see the battle for men's minds and souls through spiritual forces. The choice between good and evil exists for the heroine as well as the villain as the conflict between the two paradigms rages through the minds and hearts of the characters. I highly recommend it.

    Great Book!
A great story filled with spirits, magic, and a battle between the forces of good and evil. It adds the depth of meaning behind the story that I wished the Harry Potter series had, something like JR Tolkein or CS Lewis. Great for youth or adults. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

    The realm: the awakening begins
I found the storyline compelling and the characters very alive. From the outset I wanted to know why this child was where she was and what her future was going to be. Glanville has excellent descriptions without minutia, the narrative makes one feel as if they are living out the story. I like it.
