Touching.

Sensitive, realistic depiction of a young boy's difficult experience.

Amazingly clear and detailed on a short novel full of feelings.

This is a short yet extremely interesting book. While growing up, I had friends whose parents were divorced or who lost a parent and this book brought all those memories back. James Prosek writes very descriptively, you can imagine the pictures that he is describing through his words. The book takes you on a path that looks at Jeremy's struggles to define himself in the world and to find a reason for his life. The book also shows how nature can be a great source for consolation and peace when life is stormy.

best book I have ever read never gets boring something is always happening. love it I would recommend this to everyone but, especially readers that can't stand boring books.

Inspired, Accessible and Heartbreaking

A beautiful novel by James Prosek. His talents as an artist translate to the written word with amazing imagery - a picturesque portrait of his intimate relationship with nature and those who were so influential in helping him form that relationship.

Book Club

My sister read this for her book clubs. She really enjoyed it. Don't know alot of detail about it but it sounded good.

A Bird Pooped on My Book for A Good Reason...

I was excited to read a beach-related book over the summer but Waves was boring, repetitive, and predictable. Alright, the girl's in a coma. WE GET IT SHARON! No need to tell us over and over again. Not realistic at all. Don't buy it, you will be disappointed.

Every year the whole family goes to Cornwall, to the beach house, for vacation. Mum, Dad, Charley, Hal, Sara -- one big happy family, every year. Until this year. This year Charley won't be there. This year they won't be much of a happy family anymore. And it's all because of Charley. Charley's staying at home, in a hospital bed, in a coma. Caught somewhere between life and death. She's been that way since Hal found her last summer, washed up on the rocks by the water.

Hal is starting to think that there's more to the story than any of them realize. The closer he gets to it, the more he can feel and hear his sister. Every answer brings more questions, and Hal doesn't know if he's prepared to do what needs to be done. He only knows that he has to find a way, for Charley, for his family, for himself.

While some readers may find it hard to accept the clairvoyant relationship between Hal and Charley, it's not really hard to believe. When you're a kid no one understands you better than your family. Especially a brother or sister that's very close to you in age, and is your best friend. Who else would know you thoughts, and hear you when no one else is listening?

Not just a touching story (yes I cried) but beautiful. Yes, it's heartwarming, and heartbreaking. Sure, it's a coming of age story.

Like a video game inside a book!

Devereaux Academy is a top secret training school for young secret agents. But the kids call it Spy High. The story opens with the Bond Team -- Lori, Ben, Jake, Eddie, and Cally -- returning to Spy High from a break, yet still reeling from the death of their teammate, Jennifer at the hands of Dr. Frankenstein on a previous mission. For that reason, they don't exactly accept Bex, their new recruit with open arms. It's not her spiked green hair, or body piercings, or even her big attitude that makes them suspicious. It's the sabotage of Eddie's SkyBike during practice. And the booby trap that springs up for Lori and Ben in the Gun Run training scenario. Then Cally's cyber-cradle malfunctions nearly suffocating her. When the Bond Team members find out that Bex lied about her background and she's sneaking around the campus late at night, they think she might be a double agent. They take their concerns to Senior Tutor Elmore Grant but he dismisses them. The Bond Team are on their own. The Gathering is a very emotional and mysterious book!

Isobelle Carmody typically writes strong female characters. This is from a male perspective and I have to say she didn't miss a beat. She wrote an amazing male character that was able to overcome the adversity in his life despite constant obstacles being thrown in his way from people not wanting him to succeed in what he was trying to do. I laughed and cried in this book and was left wanting more. Hopefully she writes a sequel!

A little juvenile for my taste. The story was interesting, but perhaps a bit too farfetched. Nothing really grabbed me. There was a clear message of good overcoming evil, but I felt it was a bit too obvious and didn't really bring the message home that effectively. I much prefer Greylands and the Obernewtyn series.

Magic...

It's my kind of genre: creepy, mystical, shut-up-with-the-reality-already kind of stuff I love to read. This book is...a mystical fight between a good group and an evil group. I want to say, "simple as that," but honestly, it's not at all simple. It's complicated. It's maddening, sometimes, how the truth is right in front of you and none of the adults in the book will believe it.

Ultimately, good read, good style, good craft. I'd give this book a B. It didn't BLOW ME AWAY, but it gets high marks in creativity, style, plot and okay marks in character. There were some things I didn't buy. It's also tied up a little too nicely at the end. I'd have liked for it to have been a bit more complicated at the end and a bit faster at the beginning, but it seems many authors have this problem. It's nothing that ruins this book. Just a matter of author choice.

I will, however, also warn that there are a few rather graphic scenes which are appropriate for the story and make complete and total sense in the book, but if you're recommending this to a young person who is easily upset, it may not be the best choice.

i enjoyed this story....its not too long, or deep but it was amusing and the characters were interesting and entertaining...

What the what?

Honestly, what even was this? Taxidermy. Weird mom-love. How Gantos even came up with this idea is beyond me. If you want to read something stranger than you've probably ever encountered, read this book. Luckily, it's small and a quick read. Otherwise, I think I probably would have given up out of sheer bewilderment and confusion.

Been There

Fault Line is about a 17 year old girl who is trying to make it through her senior year in high school, fill out college applications for her future, launch her stand up comedy career & figure out this relationship thing with the new-comer Kip. Kip is sensitive, handsome, passionate, observant of Becky's every detail. Kip is everything a teenaged girl thinks she wants in a boyfriend.

Five months into the relationship, he's editting her comedy skits (getting upset when she doesn't use his punchlines), pushing her closest friends out of their circle (saying they're lame or holding Becky back), and waiting outside her two jobs after her shifts to drive her home. He calls her ten times per day (or more), IMs on the computer when she's working on her homework, texts her throughout the day... and it's endearing at first because she is so excited to talk to him all the time too.

It slowly starts to get even further out of control and she struggles to keep it a secret and to figure out if it's LOVE she has with Kip, or if it's OBSESSION. I've been at the crossroads myself. It's very confusing when you're inside. Many times, the answers aren't clear until you've been removed from the situation for many months, sometimes years. Most girls go back time and time again because they think "he will change" or "it was my fault that time" or "he didn't HIT me, so it's not abuse".

This is a serious topic for teenaged girls and I recommend it being read by teenaged girls. The flow of the story was a bit rushed. I didn't believe Kip would do what he did the first time... I felt like it was pushed in order to move the story along too soon. But, otherwise, it was a decent story.

Fantastic Read

I wasn't sure right offhand if this book was for me as it comes with some "slower" moments and with Becky's comedic background. However, the book is one that kept me on the edge of my seat and unable to put it down as the pages went by. I reccomend it.

CHANTRESS ALCHEMY was a beautifully crafted, and a utterly amazing read, that I was absolutely pleased with on so many angles.

Amy Butler Greenfield breathes a breath of fresh air in this brilliantly original historical high fantasy world, of magic, music, power, lies, deception, and a sweet romance that is sure to leave you craving more!

THE PLOT...

Lucy is the last Chantress left, and with it comes the heavy burden she must bear in order to save England with her magic within. Lucy's newly developed power pulses and releases through her songs, aiming towards the hidden evil threatening to overtake what she once saved with her magic through her singing. But what she faces may prove to be far greater then any power she possess...

It's been almost a year since Lucy battled and defeated Lord Scargrave. Lucy thought the worst was over, but how wrong she was. It was just the beginning, and it's about to get worse! There's an evil hiding within the shadows, biding their time, and striking where it hurts worse, Lucy's magic...

Hard to believe

Ever since her father and his twin brother, both famous mountain climbers, died in a climbing accident on Storm Mountain, Cat Taylor and her mother have lived at the base of the mountain. Two years after her father's death, while Cat's mother is out of town at a business conference, her cousin Ty shows up unexpectedly. Since both their fathers had died on the North Face of the mountain, Ty wants Cat to join him in scattering their ashes there. Despite a bad weather report and a lack of adequate warm clothing and climbing equipment, Cat follows Ty up the mountain.

From here on, the cousins ignore dangerous storm clouds, miraculously - and unbelievably - survive a fall into a crevasse, and dig themselves out of an avalanche. It defies belief. There are so many things wrong with this book that it is a challenge to list them all. The dialogue doesn't sound like two teenagers. Cat's rationalization for just running out the door and up the mountain without preparation and without leaving a note is unrealistic. Cat and Ty repeat safety warnings to each other, and then ignore them. There is so little character development that the reader can't figure out why in the world either teenager would act the way they did, so they simply appear foolish and thoughtless.

Those interested in mountain climbing might be interested in some authentic climbing information, but they might be even more annoyed than the average person at the total disregard the two main characters have for climbing safety.

Great Book for Adolescent Girls

Cat has slowly rebuilt her life after her father's death on nearby Storm Mountain. She has a healthy respect for the environment and has devoted her time to learning everything she can about mountain climbing. Her cousin Ty is the exact opposite, although he also lost his father, twin to Cat's, on the same mountain during the same storm. Ty is a devil-may-care, hang by the seat of his pants kind of person and Cats knows how very dangerous this attitude can be while mountain climbing. Ty gets the brilliant idea to release their fathers' ashes at the site of their deaths on the anniversary of that date. Cat says no--she isn't ready to let go of her father yet. Not to be deterred, Ty steals the ashes--and Cat's dog--in the middle of the night and heads to Storm Mountain and right into a blizzard. With both their mothers gone and the storm getting worse, Cat has no choice but to swallow her fears, ignore reason, and plunge into the storm to save Ty and her beloved dog.

What I loved about this book was the strong female character.
