Financial Self-Defense

Would you consider the audio edition of Financial Freedom Report, Volume 10, Issue 7 to be better than the print version?

I subscribe to the written version as well, and really like the audio because it lets me take the Financial Freedom Report wherever I go.

The drivers of inflation, deflation, and the boom-bust cycle are fascinating.

The Financial Freedom Report is completely different from anything else that I have seen out there. Most of the other publications are just boiler plate financial planning or a conspiracy theory pitch to sell gold. The Financial Freedom Report has real strategies that I am able to use.

Spot On!!

Digby Jones hits every nail right on the head! Every politician should read this. Superb.

A lot of sound sense here

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It's one of the few of the many I have listened to that I shall listen to again and soon . It is certainly a wake up call for my country and read with passion and conviction. I have always thought Digby Jones was a man worth listening to and this confirms it.

Interesting & full of great ideas

Provided a lot of insight into the issues we're facing as a country with plenty of great ideas as to how we solve them. Highlights many of the things the EU has been getting wrong and gives me some confidence we can prosper as a nation outside the EU. We just need more Digby Jones' to execute the plan!

Sometimes boorish and opinionated - but not wrong!

I nearly gave up half way through the first chapter!

It is like being stuck in a lift with a Daily Mail reader, complaining about how our education system is turning out kids who can't read or write, let alone be prepared to get down and dirty and do a job that requires hard honest graft.

However, it does improve as Lord Jones begins to explain his views - and in many respects, about many things he is not wrong. His beef is with our seeming self hatred, complacency and cynicism that sabotages British innovation and competitiveness in business. Governments of all parties have repeatedly not prioritised our economic interests, for instance in uniquely decoupling overseas aid from provision of services and products by British companies.

Likewise our supine attitude towards the "special relationship" with the US, exemplified by one sided extradition laws which mean any UK citizen can be extradited to the US without any prior hearing here. Not so for US citizens. Our economic relations are equally one sided it seems - compare the huge compensation paid by BP, compared to that paid by the US when the Exon Valdese went down off the UK coast.

EEC bureaucrats too come in for a pasting, for legislating that all EC patents must be translated into all EC languages, because the French objected to English only translation - which hugely pushes up the cost of registering a patent, and thus stifles innovation.

Jones probably is correct too when he says that in education "business" is a dirty word. All in all it's a sorry picture as we face the increasing economic competition from the East.

To be fair to him, Digby Jones' views are well informed, cross party lines and have the ring of truth, but I still have not managed to finish the book.

Useful for neophytes

Good book. Well written pertinent information in it's time. Being written in 2010, it's message is for the most part accurate however research statistics are woefully outdated

Horrible Narration, Okay Story

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this audio book to a friend. I might recommend the book itself.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story was okay. Some interesting new thoughts and considerations. My complaints are mostly with the narrator.

What didnt you like about Erik Daviess performance?

I'm not sure if he thought he had to slow it down for stoners or what. I've heard him on other recordings and he was fine, but I could barely listen to him on this recording. It becomes bearable once I adjust the speed to 1.25, but with his tone I expected him to say, "Duuude" after every sentence.

Do you think Cannabis - Philosophy for Everyone needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. Though I'm interested in the topic, I don't think I'd buy a follow-up book by this author (and definitely not from this narrator).

More of a documentary than I expected.

I don't know what I was expecting when I bought this book. I didn't really enjoy it. If you're into the whole legalization politics movement you might appreciate it more.

Edutainment for everyone...

This book is a series of short articles covering all aspects of cannabis, from the 100 or so names, to uses, neuro-pharmacology, psychotropic effects, taxonomy, plant anatomy, criminal status, history, politics, philosophy and above all, arguments for and against its legalisation.

As such, if you are looking to find out more about the topic, it is as comprehensive a survey as you will find anywhere. The readings are easy on the ear, and the book just thrums along happily. The standard of the writing is of course highly variable, being a compilation of essays by different people, however, there are some real quality gems in here.

Since the regretable sacking of Professor Nutt, from the DAC, for giving sensible advice, which the UK Government didn't want to hear, to the use of ever more dangerous "legal highs", to the drug wars raging in places like Columbia, Mexico and of course Afganistan, to the funding of terrorism and organised crime through the sale of illegal drugs, cannabis is an issue not just for pot heads, it concerns everyone.

Our policy on drugs has historically been drafted from ignorance, fear, prejudice and a refusal to acknowledge or address the huge problems caused by criminalising cannabis. I hope this book does something, in some small way, to redress that!

I don't honestly know who this book is aimed at. I've read several books on Cannabis and it's use in history and medicine but this book just relates to tales and stories from other writers.

Gets You Thinking

Nice collection of essays on Christmas. If you study the subject, this will be a good read to further your knowledge and have more questions than when you started. If you are looking for a nice Christmas story, this may not be the best story. Overall, this worked for me as someone who knows the history of Christmas and was looking to gets varied opinions on the subject.

Interesting Synopsis of Gen X

I found the book interesting and I see how being a end of the Boom Generation fit into some of the Gen X issues. It is well beyond the X time and now we have moved to Y and Z or something like that. But we can see how accelerated or increased some of the issues are moving forward. Technology is moving fast and the world's boundaries no longer exist but this book laid out a good stepping stone to understand where the generation moved.
