very encouraging message, but a little repetitive. I loved how the author constantly pointed to Jesus. but references to how great hillsong is became pedantic.

I really liked this book and it is the first time I have heard him speak about his father's acts of pederasty, while still showing love for him (at least that how it came through to me). Well narrated by the author.

Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. Although the story is more of a narrative history of Brian Houston & Hillsong, the focus is on Jesus and living life fully.

You can feel Brian Houston's emotion during the relating of certain stories. So instead of attaching your own emotions to the circumstance you can hear Brian's emotion. It will make you cry.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Brian Houston talks about any difficulty in life (some substantial) and the ability with faith to move mountains. With God anything is possible his encouragement is "commit to the mountain." There are no shortcuts or delusions that difficulties will just go away, take on the challenge with Jesus as the ultimate example.

Really great insight on the events that have shaped Brian Houston and his inspiration and purpose in life. And a great source of Biblical inspiration for everyone who needs it.

He puts things in great perspective!

this book has something beneficial for everyone regardless of which end of the political spectrum you call home.

Understanding the times

I have only lived in the south for 7 years now. It has taken about that long to figure out the cultural nuances. I speak the same language, but the meanings of the words we use are very different. I still don't think I have it figured out, but I'm getting a better grasp on it. Russell Moore is a tried and true southern man. In this excellent book, he speaks to the southern Christian with gentleness and understanding. He has created a hopeful roadmap for the future as Christians experience the Bible Belt coming unbuckled before their eyes. I learned so much about the southern culture from this book. If you grew up in the south, this book should prove to be an excellent resource.

Read It Don't Listen

What would have made Onward better?

This is a good book that is completely :"unlistenable" on audio. Russell Moore has pretty much constant Scripture references throughout the book and so the reader has to stop the flow to give the citation constantly. It just throws off your ability to really track with the reading. For whatever reason in print, you roll through.

A great message that is just not a good fit for audio.

Maybe its because I agree with this author that I wasn't blown away. I found the reader to take abnormally long pauses between some sentences, even on 1.5 speed.

Thought Provoking

Deeply thought provoking and personal, this book is a masterful and clear presentation of how the culture's way of defining personhood according to sexual desire falls far short of the richness to be gained by finding one's identity first in Christ. With a sensitive and caring tone, Rosaria's reading of her own is compelling and convincing of the riches to be found in Christ no matter what kind of past we bring to that relationship. It is a good book for those who struggke with unwanted homisexual desire and also deeply insightful fir anyone with a family member ir friend with that syruggke.

A must read.

This is a deeply thoughtful book on the relationship of Christianity to a person with confused sexual orientation. As a Christian it helps me to consider the struggles of a person with same sex attraction. For the person with same sex attraction it clearly speaks of the design of sexuality from the scriptures with gentleness, compassion and understanding. I greatly appreciate the author for her thoughtful and courageous ministry to the church and to the LGBT community.

It will make you think hard

Everyone's takeaway from this book will be different. It may anger you, upset you, or comfort you, but the point of this book seems to be to open up an unhindered dialogue about the meaning and weight of human words and actions. For example, I never saw someone questioning the term "gay" or "lesbian" as a noun. I am not entirely sure which Freudian text the author refers to when she talks about Freud's invention of the term "homosexual" as a category of personhood.

Two bible translations has managed to capture the heart of Romans. CJB and this one. Todd White told me that after Dan Mohler led him to the Lord he lived in Romans 5-8 for two years. I did the same (The Lord had already told me audibly to: "Stop everything you're doing, focus on identity, becoming love & walking supernaturally"). And it transformed my life!!!! Especially when also listening to Dan Mohlers teachings meanwhile.

I wanted to learn more...

I until only heard of one book by Fred Hammond and that was of course Pigs in the Parlor. So when I ran across this book (rather sermonette) I knew I had to grab it and one other. I sat down with my children and we dove in together because I don't want them to be ignorant on the subject matter, especially living in this day and age. I highly recommend this book. it is an easy follow and leaves you wanting more. By the way at the end of this book...when he was praying I received deliverance from religious piety. Glory be to God.

GREAT content, may need visual aid for 1 chapter

This is a wonderful book for self discovery in Christ. I read it/listened to it for seminary. The performance was good, engaging, and spoken at a good pace. He is sure to pause between sections so transitions that are within chapters are easier to understand without the visual aid in front of you.

A visual AID may be necessary for one of the beginning chapters, however. He tries to read off a table that categorizes personality traits with specific Myers Briggs Type Indicators (personality inventory). If I'm not making sense then you understand why a visual aid is necessary.

However, the rest of the book is extremely helpful and teaches a lot about the importance of good balance in the different areas of our spiritual life. It also gives tips and plans to help work on these areas. As we all know, none of us is perfect and there is always room for more Christ and self improvement.
