    Title: Nobody's Cuter Than You
Subtitle: A Memoir About the Beauty of Friendship
    Author: Melanie Shankle
    Narrator: Melanie Shankle
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 9 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-16-15

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
There is nothing as precious in life as a friend who knows you and loves you in spite of yourself. Yet over the last couple of decades, we've substituted the joy of real friendship with cheap imitations. We settle for "community" on Facebook and Twitter and a series of text messages that allow us to communicate with someone without the commitment. We like each other's beautifully filtered photos on Instagram and delude ourselves into believing we have a community. But real friendship requires effort. It's showing up, laughing loud, and crying hard. It's forgiving and loving and giving the benefit of the doubt. It's making a casserole, doing a carpool pickup, and making sure she knows those cute shoes are 50 percent off.
Written in the same comedic style as the New York Times best sellers Sparkly Green Earrings and The Antelope in the Living Room, Nobody's Cuter Than You is a laugh-out-loud look at the special bond that exists between friends and a poignant celebration of all the extraordinary people God had the good sense to bring into our lives at exactly the right moments. From the friendships we develop over a lifetime to the ones that wounded us and the ones that taught us to love better, Melanie Shankle reveals the influence our friends have on who we were, who we are, and who we will become. And on a day when our jeans feel too tight, our chins have decided to embrace hormone-related acne reminiscent of our teen years, and our kids have tested the limits of our sanity, they are the ones who will look at us and say, "Nobody's cuter than you!"

I feel like Melanie is a friend of mine!
I loved this book! I've told all my friends about it! I felt like I could relate to everyone one of the people mentioned! Loved the author reading it! Didn't want this book to end!! What a blessing friendship is!
    For all women!!!!
I'm 25 and have read this twice and bought the book for numerous friends!! My boss (elementary principal mid 40s) recommended it and I am so thankful she did. Melanie is SPECTACULAR. Laughed, sobbed, and said "mmmhm" countless times. The best.
Sweet Memoir about the Value of True Friendship
    Any additional comments?
Melanie tells her story by reading it herself. It brought out several emotions in me, beginning with the importance of friends in early childhood. The author was able to provide great depth of her relationships with others her age throughout the years, and the way in which the friendships enriched her life. She shared her feelings and experiences with refreshing honesty. I cried often throughout the book, so keep some tissues handy. And by all means, don't try to listen to it while shopping in public or on your way to work unless you have fresh makeup to reapply. A nice read that I enjoyed very much.
A new friend found in the pages
Loved the whole book. Laughed out loud, wiped tears, shook my head & shouted AMEN! numerous times.
    Always Love Melanie!
Melanie Shankle is one of my favorite stories tellers! She makes me LOL & leaves me wishing I could listen to her all day long, love her voice!

    Language: English
    Release date: 03-16-15
    Publisher: Christian Fellowship Publisher
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 49 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Authority is a tremendous thing in the universe, nothing overshadows it. God's throne is established on His authority. God's authority represents God Himself. God alone is authority in all things; all the authorities of the earth are instituted by God. It is therefore important for us who desire to serve God to know the authority of God.
God's authority is absolute, hence we must give Him absolute submission (our heart's attitude) and absolute obedience (our outward actions). But to His delegated authorities we can render absolute submission, but only relative obedience. For their authorities are circumscribed by the measure of the life of Christ in them. Only when they themselves submit to God's authority in them are they able to represent God. Hence there is much we have to learn about how to represent God.

    Ouch and Amen
You cannot help but go into a state of repentance while reading this. This book gives you a strong kick in the backside! Good book going back to read it and then will listen to the audio again because I want this message imbedded into my spirit!
    Incredibly insightful
This is an incredibly insightful work. Only a live lived and experienced with the Lord could produce such a work. I highly recommend this to all Christians but especially those who desire to become fully His. Blessings.
    Growth
yhis book really help me out a lot to see athority in a different way.
Easy listen for a challenging read!
What a refreshing version of a book I've read several times already. Sometimes just hearing instead of reading can bring new perspective and revelation.
    Remarkable piece of work.
Living and walking in the spirit. Beginning at the right place obedience.
Knowing God is all authority, must be a relevation by the holyspirit. This writing gives the reader practical insight into not only what to do but the way also to walk in it.
Authority why some have it. Who gave it to them. Best of all how one may obtain it through his service to God. Behind the pages of this book is the mystery of growth and the fathers power.

    Concise and insightful
Great book. No bloat. Not everything will apply, but at the verry least it will make you think and give you a great perspective. Well done.
Truly honest look at the body of Christ
The author is authentic and practical. He has obviously been sent to help churches who seek councel beforehand succeed. If you're even thinking of joining ministry ...Get this book.
    Amazing and Insightful
Our senior pastor retired after a very long pastorate and the church members need guidance and direction for the journey ahead. I started, after prayerful consideration, by purchasing an additional ten copies of this book to hand out to our leadership.
    Interesting information
Good insight for every church member to read before they get to the point of the church being diagnosed as a dying church.
    Outstanding
The book met my expectations and in some areas exceeded it. The narrator spoke with clarity and the book gave great details and insight for every church regardless of the staff the church is in.

  • The Meaning of Mary Magdalene Audiobook by Cynthia Bourgeault

Title: The Meaning of Mary Magdalene
Subtitle: Discovering the Woman at the Heart of Christianity
    Author: Cynthia Bourgeault
    Narrator: Gabra Zackman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 45 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-09-14
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 92 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Mary Magdalene is one of the most influential symbols in the history of Christianity - yet, if you look in the Bible, you'll find only a handful of verses that speak of her. How did she become such a compelling saint in the face of such paltry evidence? In her effort to answer that question, Cynthia Bourgeault examines the Bible, church tradition, art, legend, and newly discovered texts to see what's there. She then applies her own reasoning and intuition, informed by the wisdom of the ages-old Christian contemplative tradition. What emerges is a radical view of Mary Magdalene as Jesus' most important disciple, the one he considered to understand his teaching best. That teaching was characterized by a nondualistic approach to the world and by a deep understanding of the value of the feminine. Cynthia shows how an understanding of Mary Magdalene can revitalize contemporary Christianity, how Christians and others can, through her, find their way to Jesus' original teachings and apply them to their modern lives.

    Forever Changed
Where does The Meaning of Mary Magdalene rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I can honestly say it is at the top of the list.
What did you like best about this story?
It was written by someone who has lived, studied and contemplated the topic for many, many years. The idea of the church being formed by "male, celibate monastics" caused a major shift in my perspective. This combination resonated with me as a major cause of movement away from the Beginning Church.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I have celebrated the Mass for many years and today, it was different for me; it was different as a result of Cynthia's presentation of what "This is my Body" means. I am forever changed and eternally grateful....and I get it!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This Is My Body is not what you think
    Any additional comments?
This book is for those who are open to a new way of looking at Christ, women, Mary M and the Church. If you're a conservative Roman Catholic or Evangelical, I suspect you won't like her or this book unless the Holy Spirit is drawing you into a deeper love relationship with God. I caution the reader, though. Hold onto your hat. She will say things that might shake you up; she may say things that might upset you. But hang in there. LISTEN to what she says, take it in, pray about it. I confess I was ready, at one point, to put the book down and not pick it up. Truly. But today, after the 2nd reading of it, I deeply sense she is a modern day prophet worthy of your time to read or listen to what she has to say.
    Very interesting, indeed
This book has opened my eyes a little more than they were before. It has peaked my interest too. I wish to learn more. I will learn more unless my heart breaks or something before I do.
    Thought Provoking
I'm just venturing into the Wisdom Jesus theology, and this book had been so helpful.
Coming out of the Fundamentalist Christian movement left me feeling like I'd been bamboozled. This author presents the historical Mary Magdalene in a completely legitimate way. There's nothing about believing in this account that takes away from who Christ claimed to be.

    Title: Jesus Feminist
Subtitle: An Invitation to Revisit the Bible's View of Women
    Author: Sarah Bessey
    Narrator: Cassandra Campbell
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 18 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-09-14
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 126 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
For centuries, the role of women in the Church has been a subdued one, with many limitations. The time has come, argues Sarah Bessey-who has been called an "accidental grassroots voice for postmodern and progressive evangelical women"- to take a new look at Scripture and challenge old assumptions. In Jesus Feminist, Bessey shares her spiritual journey, which ranges from growing up in a postgender-debate home to learning about the worldwide struggles of women and the obstacles even a well-meaning church can pose. Through disarmingly intimate storytelling, she tells how she grew to understand the story of God and the vastness of his work through women. Never one to shy away from the hard questions, Bessey engages critically with Scripture and church practices that are often used against full equality and shares how following Jesus made a feminist out of her.Filled with beauty, hard truth, and brave vulnerability, Jesus Feminist urges the Church to stop asking "man or woman" as a qualification for ministry and to start helping everyone find freedom in the fullness, hope, glory, and work of Christ.
    Critic Reviews:
"Never strident, Bessy's approach is instead solid and clear.... An excellent choice." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
Love the book; HATE the reader.
I own this book and purchased the audiobook to re-read it while driving for work. I so wish the author had read this. The woman who does read it is annoying to listen to and made me sad I wasted a credit on it. Buy and read the book on your own.
A healing balm for the wounds of Christian women
I really enjoyed this book and I even listened to certain chapters twice. The narrator was very annoying and in the beginning of the book it seemed like she was trying to sound like a Victorian period actress.
    Very Thought Provoking
I couldn't press pause. The narration was perfect with inflection and voice. The book covered and exposed territory I did not expect. I listen to and read several Christian writers but I was compelled by this particular writer to not only listen but hear and then put feet to the emotion, action to the call. Blessed.
    Great read
Well written. Message clearly expressed through the use of both biblical anecdotes, and personal experiences. Though clearly written for women, it is a call for both genders to live in love and justice.
    Not for me
Narrator was hard for me to take seriously. There was not much substance to this book.

Brother Lawrence left the gift of a way of life available to anyone who seeks to know God's peace and presence; that anyone, regardless of age or circumstance, can practice - anywhere, anytime. Brother Lawrence also left the gift of a direct approach to living in God's presence that is as practical today as it was three hundred years ago. Title: God and the Gay Christian
Subtitle: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships
    Author: Matthew Vines
    Narrator: Matthew Vines
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-22-14
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 206 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
As a young Christian man, Matthew Vines harbored the same basic hopes of most young people: to someday share his life with someone, to build a family of his own, to give and receive love. But when he realized he was gay, those hopes were called into question. The Bible, hed been taught, condemned gay relationships.
Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality. With care and precision, Vines asked questions such as:
Unique in its affirmation of both an orthodox faith and sexual diversity, God and the Gay Christian is likely to spark heated debate, sincere soul searching, even widespread cultural change. Not only is it a compelling interpretation of key biblical texts about same-sex relations, it is also the story of a young man navigating relationships with his family, his hometown church, and the Christian church at large as he expresses what it means to be a faithful gay Christian.
    Critic Reviews:
"For anyone who wants to know why some evangelicals find that the Bible does not condemn same-gender marriage, Matthew Viness book answers the question. Christians who oppose gay marriage should consider what he has to say." (Tony Campolo, professor emeritus, Eastern University; co-author of Red Letter Christians)
"Many people believe you can either hold a high view of Scripture or affirm gay relationships, but not both. Matthew Vines proves them wrong. Provocative and relentlessly Bible-focused, God and the Gay Christian offers hope and insight for Christians who have felt conflicted on matters of sexuality." (Justin Lee, author of Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christians Debate)
"A must-read for all Christians, but especially parents. Matthew Vines brings great insight and wisdom to the conversation so urgently needed by todays church. God and the Gay Christian has the information I was searching for when my son, Tyler Clementi, came out to me. This book will have a great impact on families, freeing parents of misunderstandings about their LGBT children while letting them hold securely to their faith." (Jane Clementi, co-founder of The Tyler Clementi Foundation)
    Members Reviews:
The revisionist side of the discussion
Matthew Vines is gay and is a Christian. This book tells his story of coming out and trying to reconcile his Christian faith with his local church, friends, family and his physical/emotional attraction to the same sex. While I don't agree with his conclusions or interpretations of scripture, I completely empathize with the hurt, rejection and self-doubt he and others like him have to endure with same-sex attraction. I can't say I understand how he feels, I am not attracted to other men, but I can feel his pain and understand (and identify with) his desire to find a way to reconcile his faith with his identity as a gay man.
What he writes is often painful to read and it is sad that our society treats people who are different poorly, many of those doing so identifying themselves as Christian. What he writes about is his journey and studies in reconciling his faith with his identity. Where he ends up is, in my and other's opinion, contrary to where he said (and concludes) he is going.

Length: 5 hrs and 30 mins

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
From the New York Times best-selling author of An Altar in the World, Barbara Brown Taylors Learning to Walk in the Dark provides a way to find spirituality in those times when we dont have all the answers.
Taylor has become increasingly uncomfortable with our tendency to associate all that is good with lightness and all that is evil and dangerous with darkness. Doesnt God work in the nighttime as well? In Learning to Walk in the Dark, Taylor asks us to put aside our fears and anxieties and to explore all that God has to teach us "in the dark". She argues that we need to move away from our "solar spirituality" and ease our way into appreciating "lunar spirituality" (since, like the moon, our experience of the light waxes and wanes). Through darkness we find courage, we understand the world in new ways, and we feel Gods presence around us, guiding us through things seen and unseen. Often, it is while we are in the dark that we grow the most.
With her characteristic charm and literary wisdom, Taylor is our guide through a spirituality of the nighttime, teaching us how to find our footing in times of uncertainty and giving us strength and hope to face all of lifes challenging moments.
