    I liked it
My brother has Asperger's Syndrome and so I was attracted to the book for gaining insight into his world a little bit. Reading Merilee's story did help me understand my brother better especially the part about having trouble voicing her thoughts even when classmates dumped trash on her. That part was really touching and sad that her teacher was so oblivious to what she was put through on a daily basis. Also, I liked the way she would give out a one word sarcastic summary of how she was feeling, because that is something my brother does a lot except he is more emotive than Merilee. I will read this book again.
    Absolutely adorable!
I loved this little gem of a book that I didn't want it to end. I could have traveled on with Merilee and her friend through many more adventures. This is not just a book for kids and it is a great insight into children with Aspergers syndrome and fetal alcohol syndrome.
The Very Ordered Existence of Merilee Marvelous
Suzanne Crowley is an exceptional book author. I was right there with her every step of the way. Can't wait until the next book.
Everyone in Orlando has read it.

    Beating on a Different Drum
This is a book that is really aimed at the general audience. Merilee Monroe, 13 has Asperger's Syndrome which is the spectrum partner to autism. She lives in the cultural desert town of Jumbo Texas with her parents and 10-year-old sister, Bitsy Ruth. The girls' mother, a New Yorker infuses the good townsfolk with literary interests by hosting poetry readings in a local shop.
Marilee cannot tie her shoes or ride a bicycle; she has coordination issues which are not uncommon among many people who have Asperger's Syndrome. Merilee has special interests that often don't include others. She loves dragons; she is literal to the point where she expects her Irish neighbors to "look like the little guy on the Lucky Charms [cereal] box." She is rigid about sequence and order; she cannot stand to be touched as she finds it painful. She laughs at the irony of having the nickname Hug as she dislikes hugs; the girls' father came up with that one after he nicknamed Bitsy Ruth Bug. Merilee credits him with wanting to be fair.
While Merilee is not without her peculiarities, she is a very believable character with Asperger's and ironically, she fits in with the townsfolk to a large extent. Many of the citizens of Jumbo, Texas are wildly eccentric and it is just their oddities that make them so endearing.
In fact, it is this strange mix of characters who do ironically fit into Merilee's Very Ordered Existence as their oddities move in counterpoint with her own. While many of their distinctive features are somewhat predictable, Merilee's are not and it is just this rhythmical sequencing that makes this an effective story.
Merilee is indeed a distinctive personality, even in this small town melting pot of odd characters. She dispenses purple Tootsie pops to pacify her neighbors so they won't disclose their personal problems with her; she befriends an 8-year-old boy with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. He, too is a plausible character facing a serious congenital condition.
Readers get lulled into this hot, sleepy little town where, like "Cheers," everybody knows your name.

    Publisher's Summary:
As she matures, Sarah learns to assist her pack by contributing human tools to the hunt and, eventually, interacting with humans. With her best friend and pack-sister, Beka, at her side, Sarah becomes a local legend: the Wild Angel of the Sierras, rescuer of imperiled travelers. Her altruism is motivated by curiosity and bafflement at the settlers' inability to perceive the world around them, as well as a passion for biscuits. A kaleidoscopic cast colors her adventures, including a brief cameo by Samuel Clemens and, of course, two hiss-worthy villains: one human, one lupine.
    Critic Reviews:
"Faithful to the spirit of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan tales and Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, this story of a young girl's courage and resourcefulness belongs in most fantasy and YA collections." (Library Journal)

    Amazing, Mesmerizing Read
I was hesitant to invest in a book not aimed at the adult market, but I'm so glad I did. This has to be one of the best books I've ever read. The author's writing is superb--excellent pacing, beautiful descriptive language, and an intriguing story. I simply could not stop listening to this book, once I got started. If I have one complaint, it's that I missed a whole night's sleep because I could not stop listening to it all night long.
    A Touching Adventure Novel!
In 1850 little Sara watches from her hiding place as her parents are murdered in California while they panned for gold. She is then raised by wolves and grows up in the wilderness as a she-Tarzan. I know it sounds corny but it wasnt at all. This is a very well written adventure novel with fantastic characters and lots of drama. I loved the way it explained the wolfs behaviors and the pact dynamics. Bernadette Dunne is my favorite narrator and as always she did an excellent job. I enjoyed this story so much so that I didnt want it to end. Its a great listen for any age and its one of those books youll find on your favorite list.
    Not just for kids
This is a superbly written and read audiodrama. The reader does accents, animals, males and females in an incredible performance. The book has fascinating charachters and really brings the life of Northern CA during the gold rush to life. Truly a fantastic read!

When Jed encounters a mysterious homeless girl he thinks holds the key to connecting him to Zeke, it could be his only way to unlock his deepest sorrow and discover how to be, who to be, on his own.
As true and lyrical as a sax solo, Birdland touches down at the core of the human heart and sends it soaring. Recommended for young adults.
    Critic Reviews:
"The beauty of this rigorously unsentimental novel about a family in crisis is the way that Mack, even as she lets her characters' imaginations soar, keeps her story grounded in the pain of broken things." (Booklist)

Loved this book as a kid
This was one of my favorite books when I was a kind, and I really wanted to read it one day, and I couldn't buy it on my Nook. It came in good condition, and I read it in one sitting.
    Five Stars
    Excellent
    Birdland
Birdland is about two friends, Jed and Flyer who videotape a documentary about their nieghborhood. Flyer is videoing the nieghborhood to hope to connect with his father although he is not very good with a camera. He and his father had not been getting a long ever since Flyer's mother had left. Jed, on the oter hand is searching for Zeke, a poet who liked Charlie "Bird" Parker. Zeke had a lot of CD's, notebooks, and a lot of unanswered questions about himself and Charlie Parker. I think what makes this book so good is that the author wrote it so that it builds a lot of suspense. I recommend this book because it has a lot of adventure, suspense, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
    Birdland flies
Tracy Mack's mastery of language and writing style is especially evident in her latest book, Birdland. She moves the reader effortlessly through the pages and through the streets of New York City, making them seem alive enough to smell or feel. This portrait of grief is hopeful and uplifting as three families deal with the problems they have to deal with. It's a good book for teens to read, but I recommend it for anyone.
    Mesmerizing....
You don't have to live in New York City to fall under the spell of this beautiful novel. Descriptions of the city are cinematic, and so affecting as the story of a boy dealing with loss unfolds. Teens will relate to Jed and the weight of what he's going through, and experience the way that weight is lifted as he works things out. Impressive and unforgettable.

As I walked back towards Warriewood I couldn't help thinking about Matthew. Matthew Kennedy. Nice name. It was so annoying, I'd met him twice now and both times he hadn't put a foot wrong.
    Editorial Reviews:
With an earnest and frank delivery, veteran performer Kate Hosking brings to life this moving story from novelist and teacher John Marsden. For years, Winter De Salis had been haunted by vague feelings and memories of her childhood. Now, at age 16, she decides she must return to her home, a place full of mystery and secrets, which she hasnt seen since she was four years old. Rife with emotion and unexpected turns, Marsdens Winter is stirring account of one girls valiant attempt to piece together the tragic mystery of her childhood.
    Critic Reviews:
"[A] knockout punch Marsden delivers here." (Publishers Weekly)
"Teens will especially enjoy the ferocity with which Winter stands up to the adults who try to take advantage of her." (School Library Journal)

Good read, but very short in volume
The story line is good, but the book is very short in volume. It would have been better to have included it with one of the authors other short stories to make a better value. The published price for the book was excessive, but the Amazon price was very good.
If you like moving books, read this one.
Sixteen-year-old Winter De Salis lost her parents twelve years ago, but she doesn't know how they died! She's been haunted by it ever since, and her feelings will not go away. She's now back in Warriewood after living with the Robinson family --- and she's determined to find out the truth.
While living in Warriewood, she starts to do some research on her parent's deaths. One day she finds their graves and learns that her father died in a drowning accident. She starts asking people about her mother's death, but she doesn't believe any of the stories she hears. Will she ever find out how her mother died, or will the truth be kept from her forever?
I liked this book because Winter's personality is similar to mine. If I was Winter, I would have wanted to find out how my parents died too, because I believe that you should always know the truth about your family. If you like moving books, read this one to find out if Winter ever discovers the truth.

    Tough Girls Finish First!
At sixteen Winter has come home. Not that anyone wants her there but the farm is hers and she won't be stopped. But for all her bull-headedness and the reader's wonder at why she's so stubborn soon becomes apparent when Winter sees better than the adults do what is really going on on her land. We thrill to Winter's cleverness at finding the guilty freeloaders and tossing them out on their ears.
The memories that have been teasing Winter about her parents are also chillingly brought to life by her Great-Aunt Rita.
Through it all we think that Winter will be just fine. And we're sort of glad she gets to be a kid again, too.
    Wow
    Winter is just unbelievable.
I know some people who didn't like the book, but I personally found it amazing, and so did my parents, who I forced to read it after I finished.
John Marsden has written another amazing piece of work.

Jess had the perfect summer planned: she and Fred, lounging in the park, gazing into one another's eyes and engaging in witty repartee. It was going to be so romantic. And then her maddening mum stepped in: She suddenly announced a two-week "road trip" to Cornwall to visit Jess' dad, something Jess might have enjoyed, actually, were it not for the monstrously bad timing. Not only will this force Jess and Fred apart for two whole weeks, it will also leave the darling and handsome Fred in the clutches of Jess's blindingly beautiful best friend, Flora, who, you might recall, expressed an interest in Fred not too long ago. As if all this weren't enough, Jess' mum seems to expect her to weep at the grave of every departed literary hero in Britain's long history. It's absolute torture. And little does Jess know, a huge surprise awaits her when she visits her dad at his home for the first time in years.

    Positives and Negatives
    My thoughts:
    Positives:
    * This type of book is always very funny to me.
    * Typical teenage girl in love behavior filled with jealousy and "going to kill you" fantasies.
    * Emotions run rampant and I understand that better than staying calm all of the time
    * When her father tells her that he's gay, it's the coolest thing that she can imagine. That part of the book is very inclusive and hilarious at the same time. It's a great way to bring up a sensitive topic.
    Negatives:
    * This type of book has a plot, but really the side stories distract you from it consistently. There is no "point" to this story.
    * She can be a little too dramatic at times.
    * Honestly, you never really find out what's going on between the family members. Perhaps I would have had to read the other ones to understand the problems between her mother and her.

Welcome back to more crazy adventures of Jess Jordan.
School is out and Jess has nothing more planned than to spend her time with her newly turned boyfriend, Fred. But it doesn't take long before disaster strikes. Of all times, Jess's mom has decided to take a vacation. They're to take a road trip so that Jess can visit her father in St. Ives. They'll stop at all sorts of historical and literary sites along the way. She surprises Jess with the news hours before Fred surprises her with tickets to the Riverdene concert. Typical of Jess's life.
Leaving Fred behind, Jess, her mom, and her dear grandmother (along with her grandfather's ashes) head off on the trip. With intermittent phone and text connections with Fred, Jess's mind starts coming up with far-fetched ideas of his indiscretions. Jess's best friend, Flora, has canceled her vacation when Flora's mom winds up with a broken leg. Earlier in the year Flora was keen on Fred. So leaving the two back home without a chaperone could spell a breakup for Jess.
The trip wouldn't be nearly so bad if it weren't for the timing of it. Jess tells her story with anguish and comedy, leaving the reader in hysterics and wanting to learn more. The reader can tell what is about to happen, but the anticipation of Jess's twisted reality is what makes the story so much fun.

    The VERY BEST
My teenage son is the one who got me started on Robert Stanek's books. We've both become avid listeners and recently got a second ipod. I listen when I walk and sometimes while driving. Stanek has a gift with creating interesting characters who are well-written and critical to the story. Some, like Emel, grow on you and you start to like them more and more. Others, like Vilmos and Valam, you like right away. The author masterfully blends the history of the world into the story and draws you into his richly imaged world. By the time I got to this third book, it felt as if this land was as real as our own. The plot has numerous twists and turns. There is intrigue, mystery, adventure and plenty of action. If you enjoy fantasy, this is a must read. Even if you don't usually like fantasy, you may very much enjoy this.
    This is amazing!
I've enjoyed listening to all three books so far. I didn't think the author could out do the second one, but this is by far the best one. For me the characters are the best part of the story. I've enjoyed following Adrina, Vilmos and Seth's adventures. Emel is also a favorite and he starts to accept who he is. The introduction of Myrial and Edward makes an already strong cast of characters even better. Listen to the first two and then listen to this one.
    Simply fantastic
Like all the others in the series, this book is beautifully written and hard to put down. I didn't want to stop listening, and sometimes I'd sit in the parking lot to finish the chapter I was on. I've never before read a series where each book is better than the one before. The narrator is excellent.
    Tough to put down
After I listened to the sample for this one, I could think of nothing else. This is a magical series, and I've never before found a series where each book is better than the one before. Sometimes people say that, but in this case it's true. It's well written with a great story to tell and a reader who does a great job of telling it. The characters come alive with emotion and feeling. The twists are well done and the surprises are many. Quite a find.
Absolutely Amazing and Great For All Ages
I found this wonderful story totally captivating. On the surface it's about one thing, but underneath this it's an intense exploration of the characters of 3 gifted young people and their complex relationships with others and the world around them. It leaves you surprised and wondering time after time, and just when you think you have been surprised for the last time, the author does it to you again.
I love the entire series. I've become a huge fantasy fan, and The Kingdoms and the Elves rates up there with the fathers of fantasy.

    Hilarious!!!!
I only got this book because Katherine Kellgren was the narrator and there wasn't anything else that seemed interesting at the time. I was putting off listening to it because I didn't think the topic would be of interest. I was wrong. Very very funny. The target audience is young adults. I recommend it for anyone. Enjoyable YA/Teen Science Fiction Romance
Clean YA/Teen Romance. I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The story is interesting and kept me wanting to find out what would happen next. It is a bit slow at first but it picks up towards the end.
Narration was good and it brought the story to life. Some of the voices were a bit monotonous but ok. She sounded like a machine at times.
The story is clever and unique. The way they travel between planets is unexpected but a smart idea. It was much better than I had expected it. I hope there will be a second book with a follow up of what happened to the princess. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this talented author.
"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
Robotic narration ruined the listening experience
Eye on Orion is a YA paranormal/romance novel written by Laura D. Bastian and performed by Julie Kelly. It's my first time listening to an audiobook written and/or performed by either. I'm not sure if Ms. Kelly was instructed to read the parts of Jai, Amira and the others like robots, but that's how it came across. They were supposed to have moved from Scotland and, well, there wasn't a Scottish accent to be heard anywhere. I can honestly say that it was a grind for me to get through this audiobook because the narration drove my nuts. When Ms. Kelly was reading Holly's parts, it wasn't bad, but I just couldn't get past the robotic narration of the others.
The story was fairly entertaining, although I'm pretty sure that not enjoying the narration made the story itself less enjoyable for me. I'm not sure which books to compare the story to, though it seems that this story has been done before. I did enjoy the various characters and the way that they ended up communication between themselves was a new idea. Overall, I don't think I'll be listening to any future stories by this author/narrator combo, though I do think that this series could definitely do with a follow-up book, as I think that there is more to explore within the story. I would recommend getting a new narrator or revamping the terrible accent that the visitors have in future recordings. I think that I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
    Written in the stars
I'll be the first to admit, I'm a sucker for a good romance.

Yes, I am the author and yes I just gave it a 4 star. I really enjoy my story, but as it is my first, I know there is room for improvement. I have came a long way in my descriptions and plotting so I hope my future books will leave you wanting more!
    Lackey's Amazing, Break-Out, Fan-Fiction Fantasy Novel!
"Borrowing from mega hits like Game of Thrones, Merlin and Lord of the Rings, The Bad Seeds grows on you, pushing away the world we're living in, into a new one."
Mike Lackey, author of The Bad Seed, has created fan fiction. I never knew what it was until today. Numerous times, I'd heard of authors submitting fan fiction, but had I not picked up The Bad Seed, I'd have remained in the House of Ignorance. Right now, this novel is free on KindleUnlimited with regular price being $2.99. Not too shabby for the opportunity to slide into another world.

The story is about The Champion of Light, but he may not be born yet! So until then, or we're led to believe, we learn what happens before the challenger of evil matures. That gives us Zachery Morley. He's headed towards the herb garden when he spies a stranger in a dark cloak doing something suspicious. As he tries to watch the figure proves to be a demon who delivers a cryptic message before dramatically vanishing. In its wake is a small sapling. From there, we follow Zachary and the adventure he'd always wished for but wished he'd never taken.
When I began reading this story, I was über impressed. The idea of the story was nice and I liked Zachery.

    Good read.
The characters were written very well and the plot unfolded as it should. The world building was phenomenal, it really sucked you into the story. But there were some things I did not like about it. The font while reading, changed, there was a lot of telling and not enough showing and at times when the story should have been told more in depth, it was rushed. But overall, it was a good read.
What Do You Get When You Mix MERLIN and GAME OF THRONES? THE BAD SEED!
"The Light shines the brightest, when the world is at it's darkest." - Michael Lackey
When I first read the beginning chapter of the book, my eyes immediately widened and my imagination suddenly went to a whole different world.
