    Publisher's Summary:
Zoe Miller is a 15-year-old witch with a talent for potions. She's working hard to find a substitute for toad slime. Since fat-free margarine has been found to be a substitute for dead man's toe, she's hopeful that she'll find one.
Then there's all the so-called normal stuff. Like high school, her annoyingly selfish "friend" Anya, and her crush on Anya's ex-boyfriend Jake.
Now, Zoe's dad is dating Jake's mom, and things are getting more and more complicated. If only Zoe could brew a potion or two and set everything straight. Zoe can't. If she brews a self-serving potion, bad things will happen to her appearance. Like a crooked nose, giant wart, green skin, rotting teeth - the whole ugly witch stereotype.
Zoe's tired of fate interfering so cruelly in her life. Can you really blame her for putting her potions to not-so-good use and stirring up trouble?

    A teen romance book
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This little novel is very good. The entertaining voice of the main character as she faces her various teenage problems along with challenges associated with her very special gifts kept me listening up to the end.
    .
    Any additional comments?
Stirring Up Trouble is the story of your average 15 year old teen girl who also just happens to be a witch. Zoe has some of the everyday challenges of being a teen. Her parents are divorced, a best friend who isn't always on her side and a crush on Jake the ex boyfriend of said best friend. When Zoe's dad starts dating Jake's mom, Zoe thinks that it can't get any worse. All she wants to do is brew a few potions to make things easier. Trouble with that is if she benefits from any self-serving potions bad things will happen to her such a her nose will grow or she will start sprouting hair from her chin. Can Zoe get the guy and save face?
I really enjoyed this book. I think that Ms. Alexander has a real grasp on the teen age novel. Sometime when you read a YA/New Adult book, the author seems so out of touch. Not here with Ms. Alexander. She is the real deal.
Ms. Jacob's narration draws you into the story even more. She has a great range of character voices. I liked the pacing of the book. Ms. Jacob's didn't let me down.\
I would recommend this book for 13+ years old and up. There is a little romance but most of all there is a lot of fun!

    Great read
This book was a wonderful example of how quickly someone can turn from the Lord. If you start forsaking Bible reading/study and prayer, it doesn't take long to revert back to worldly ways.
We need to stay focused on God and His Word, so we will know the right things to do. Listen for that still small voice through God's Word and prayer. He will never steer you wrong.
    Worth your time.
I will start this review off by saying that I liked this story and that it is a book that's worth reading. As I read it I kept thinking that fans of the X-Factor, American Idol, and The Voice should be reading this one. Those shows are great entertainment but sometimes I wonder what goes on behind the scenes. I wonder how the winners deal with their new fame and I wonder how they are treated by the record companies. I know this story is fictional but it's the first one that I've read that even comes close to touching on the subject and I found that interesting.
Overall I found the main character to be a little frustrating in the sense that he tends to go along with everyone else's agenda but, in the end, that seems to be the lesson of this story. Christians ought to make a stand, and when they don't, well, bad things tend to happen.
This story is presented as a stand alone story and, for the most part, it works. However, as I read it there were some things going on that left me with the sense of needing more background. I found it slightly distracting but in a good way. It makes me want to read the other stories in this series.
There was one area of the story that I wasn't crazy about. Without giving too much away there is a moment in the story where the main character is no longer just a bystander but an actual participant in some of the 'bad' things that are happening around him. The only problem is that when it happens it happens fast and because it is never expressly shown that he has moved in this direction then it came as a small shock. It's not a deal breaker but i would've preferred to have been eased into it.
In the end, good writing, good story, and it should inspire others to stand strong in their beliefs.
nice, easy read with an encouraging purpose
This is my first book by Cliff Ball, but his end times series has intrigued me since I first heard of it. "Timothy Phillips" was an easy, enjoyable read I would recommend to anyone interested in keeping up the Christian lifestyle in the midst of temptation. I imagine it probably would appeal particularly to teens and young adults, as the main character is a young man who wins a music competition that propels him into fame and stardom.
I expected the book to deal more with end-times issues. Besides a few things going on in the background and at the very end, the story could just as easily have taken place in today's era.

    A genuine feel-good fairy tale
I found this book to be absolutely charming, and intriguing still. Even if it is a fairy tale for adult people it has the wits, allure, and magic of a story that is genuine, original and has all the essentials of a fairytale, without being aimed at a child. That is not so common. It doesn't branch out in violence, sex or faul language to keep people interested, instead its built solid around an intriguing plot, lovely characters, a bit of humor (I loved that part) and emotions. The whole story is a interesting read, and it makes for a really warm smile worthy experience in some parts.
I must say that this Author has skillfully managed to avoid the slippery slope of being similar or rewriting existing fairytales, this is unique, and still belongs with the treasured fairytales that exist. I warmly recommend this book to those who wish for a feel-good read.
    A Fairy's Fate
Fairy godmothers are responsible for helping people find their happiness, but who intervenes for them to find their own happiness?ÂNissa: A Contemporary Fairy Tale by Bethany Lopez depicts the fateful mission that changes a young fairy godmother's life forever.
At 900 years old, Nissa is a young fairy. Taking on the role of Godmother from her mother, Nissa has been training to help improve humans' lives. In her first solo mission, Nissa is tasked with helping a teenage girl, Vicky, with her self-confidence, which seems a simple enough job. The complicating factor for Nissa's personal life is the girl's older brother, Levi, who Nissa believes, no matter how outlandish it might seem, is her life mate. If that's true, the decisions that Nissa makes will change all their lives forever.
This was a quick, light, fun read. While the story started off with an info-dump-esque introduction to Nissa and the world of fairies, once the premise was established, the rest of the narrative read as a more natural progression and reveal of necessary information in this brief tale, although there could be more development of character and world description. Addressing the pervasive topic of bullying, this narrative fortunately doesn't having anything too dark or graphic happen to Vicky, but it still demonstrates the effect that bullying can have on a person and how it could alter their typical behavior.
Light, fun read for fairy lovers
This is a sweet, quick read that's light and fun. I worried in the first couple chapters that I would lose interest, but turns out, I was just confused by Nissa's fairyland like she was by the human world when she joined in. Once I got a grasp on how things worked, I got more into it - the details Lopez thought out are many and interesting, from how they become Fairy Godmothers to the general fairy world like how they sleep in the woods. The romance between Levi and Nissa was very sweet, but it was the friendship between Nissa and her "project" that I liked so much, watching Vicky develop, grow confidence, and stand up for herself.

    Editorial Reviews:
In this mystery set in 18th-century Japan, fourteen-year-old samurai apprentice Seikei is sent by the shogun to persuade the young emperor to carry out his ceremonial duties. It seems like a simple task, but when the emperor is kidnapped in a complicated plot to overthrow the shogun, Seikei's mission takes a dangerous turn. Narrator Hayden Lee's thoughtful performance is framed by his nimble cadence as Seikei, with the help of a mysterious warrior, tries to rescue the emperor before his sacred sword, supposedly unbeatable in battle, ends up in the enemy's hands.

    Seikei's Adverntures Continue
In this well written novel the adventures of 14 year old Seikei and Judge Ooka continue. All the books in the series are well written, riveting, educational, and just plain fun to read! My male and female students alike highly enjoy learning about Japanese Samurai culture through the Hoobler's novels.
the supernatural and suspense was even better.
Feudal Japan is always fascinating, however combined with the maintaining of law and order, the supernatural and suspense was even better.
    Good continuation of Seikei's story
My 7th grade students used this book to supplement our reading of the first novel in the series, The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn. The Hooblers did a great job creating characters that help readers understand the world of medieval Japan. We even contacted the Hooblers to ask some questions about the books, and they graciously responded.
    really fun Samurai mysteries
I've read them all - they are really fun. I wish there were more books in the series.
I think of these as being like a younger version of the Robert Van Gulik "Judge Dee"stories - Judge Dee was of course Chinese, while Judge Ooka is Japanese.
I lived in Japan, I've studied a lot about medieval Japan, these are well done and entertaining. The boy is wonderfully naive. The books rate fairly well in terms of historical accuracy, and the plots are well done.

My 11 y.o. loves the series
So accidentally we have purchased #2 from this series "Hyperspace High". My son (5th grader) loved it so much that he finished book in 2 days and asked if I can get him the whole series. So now we have all 6 books and he is finishing #5 today. Although his teacher felt that it was a difficult book for 5th grade (high Lexile and many unfamiliar words) - this didn't stop my son from trying to read it and loving it! Knowing how picky my son can be in Reading, this must be a great book and series. :)
    Son loved it
My 8 year old some loved the entire series of Hyperspace High. He loved the character of John who is a boy living on a spaceship with aliens from all over the Galaxy. The series does need to be read in order. He was sad it was all over after the sixth book. The books are in a low to mid 5th grade level.

"I would have been here sooner, but traffic on I-55 was awful." Walker shouldnt be so surprised to find Jesus standing in the middle of his bedroom. After all, he prayed for whoever was up there to help his mom, who hasnt stopped crying since Noah died, two months ago. But since when have prayers actually been answered? And since when has Jesus been so...irreverent? As astounding as Jesus sudden appearance is, its going to take more than divine intervention for Walker to come to terms with his brothers death. Why would God take 17-year-old Noah when half of the residents in his moms nursing home are waiting to die? And why would he send Jesus to Coaltown, Illinois, to pick up the pieces? If he really wanted to help, why couldnt he have kept Noah from dying? In a spare, weighty, and often humorous text, renowned poet Ron Koertge tackles some of lifes biggest questions - and humanizes the savior in a way that highlights the divinity in all of us.
    Members Reviews:
    Quick and Quirky
Coaltown Jesus is a novel in verse, and the first Ive read by Ron Koertge. I like quirky books, though I usually stay away from books with religious overtones. Coaltown Jesus, though is witty and accessible, and talks about questions everyone has about death.
So, Jesus has quite the sense of humor in this book, describing his appearance as Robe, sandals, beard just like my action figure. Though he later swaps his sandals for red Chucks. Jesus bonds with Walker like a friend, even nudging him to go for it with the girl he likes. Only Walker can see Jesus, though his presence his felt in various ways by others, and when he laughs the ground shakes like an earthquake. Im sorry, I cant just giggle. Im God. I literally could quote all of Jesus lines.
Free verse works well for this quick, but meaningful read. Anyone whos lost someone close to them will relate to Walkers struggle and survivors guilt.
One of my favorite male narrators, Nick Podehl reads the book. Most of the book consists of conversations between Walker and Jesus, and I suppose it was intimidating coming up with the voice of Jesus, but Podehl was up to the task. His reading matches the witty tone of the book, and brings Walkers story to life. At just over an hour, this audiobook is a fast-paced, entertaining listen.
Ron Koertge takes on a weighty subject in Coaltown Jesus in a humorous manner that will stick with me.

    Great addition to series!
Book Review- Fathom by Ashley L. Knight
Morgan is having horrible nightmares since the Blessing. She keeps seeing Thayde dying. She doesnât want to let him out of her sight. Yet she is feeling strange. Her anger is taking over. She is overwhelmed with being the Link. She feels like two people are inhabiting her body. After almost losing Thayde her body shuts down. She is being sent someone that will help her learn her powers.
Tammer and Thayde have a mission of their own. They have to find Limus. The shadow that Limus infected Thayde with is taking over. Morgan will have to confront Limus again. She is also having doubts about herself. She needs to get stronger and trust herself. Her loved ones are going to be counting on her to fulfill her destiny.
I love this series. I like how the author shows how much Morgan is struggling. The responsibilities she now has is crushing. Her fear and doubts are understandable and tangible. She is a great character. She is trying her hardest to do what is right but like the rest of us would love to crawl into bed and hide from the world. She is very relatable. This story really dealt with her internal battle.
Her relationship with Thayde is sweet. I love how it progressed in this story. I loved the ending. I know that the last story will be dealing with the villain that wasnât found in this one. I canât wait to see how she handles everything. I give this book a 4 out of 5.
Fathom: the Saga of Mermaids, Merpeople and More continues...
This reader looked forward to taking a break and plunging into author Ashley Knight'sFathom, or Book II of the Fins Trilogy, as it's also known. I bought this as a Kindle edition, as I wanted to keep it with my copy of Ms. Knight's debut novelFins, the first book of this trilogy.
Admittedly, this genre is not my regular choice for leisure reading, but there had been something compelling about the story of Morgan and Thayde, which had begun on Central Florida's Treasure Coast in the first book of the trilogy, so I had to go for it... and I'm glad that I did.
This second book begins in the unlikely setting of New York City, as Morgan and Thayde start their life together as students at Columbia University. I could get picky with details here, as early on we find Morgan saying: "Downtown Manhattan is not my favorite place. For one, forget the fact that it's dirty and crowded - the buildings are so tall they block the sun! However, the restaurants are amazing and diverse.

There are Secrets within Secrets here
The Secret is that if you wish for something really, really hard, you will get it. Just kidding. I've read the whole Guild of the Cowry Catchers epic, which takes place long after this story and in which Gwain is a major figure, so how can this story keep me in suspense about his quest for a world-shattering Secret? It must be magic, the magic of storytelling. I got the text + audio bundle; the audio production is first-rate, and performer Chris Lester IS the voice of Gwain. Inside joke riddle: when is punctuation important for audio?
    Yay, More Panamindorah!
This is excellent value for your money, whether you prefer to read or listen. Both are available with this volume! I listened to it first and then reread particularly interesting bits. The Secret contains many of these. Both the audio and written portions are well-produced, as usual from Ms. Hilton. As to the content: If you love Gwain in research mode, this is the story for you :)
    The Secret
Superb writing by Abbie! Gwain is a fun character,I thoroughly enjoyed hearing his history and learning more about Tzu. Chris Lester delivered the story flawlessly.
Further context to the Panamindorah Universe
I very much enjoy these low threshold expansions on the larger story arcs - this one being connected to the Guild of the Cowry Catchers thread. If you aren't familiar with Ms. Hilton's podcasts and you are a stories akin to the Chronicles of Narnia (with perhaps more adult-themed content), you should definitely check them out before diving into some of the eBooks.
