Ive left some clues for you.If you want them, turn the page.If you dont, put the book back on the shelf, please.
So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the New York Times best-selling authors of Nick & Norahs Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have listeners perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

    Missed the Mark
This story was a cute idea poorly executed. Some passages of the writing were quite clever, while too many of them tried too hard with the cutsey/trying not to be cutsey New York too-clever-and-hip-for-you language. Also, I did not find it believable that the two main characters could be a couple: while the young man comes across as an intelligent and nice person (who may be open-minded to any number of possibilities) the girl just plain seems too young for him. Her maturity and (lack-of) experience just seems too far behind where he is in life. Through the notebook you do get the hint that they might indeed be compatible - only, in a few years after she's "grown up" a little more. To be more convincing, the female voice needed to sound just a little bit older. Also, I found the ending a bit anti-climactic. So, I regret to say this did not win me over.
    Review on the book
I have purchased the audiobook because I am SO enamoured with the print copy. I received it in prepublication and the the narrative just sings. It is one of the best written books I've read in a long time, and as a high school librarian, believe me, I read a lot of YA books. Every student I have recommended the book to as well has adored it.
    Girl Narrator Issues
Book was a cute Christmas young adult book which was easy to follow but interesting enough to keep me listening. My problem was with the girl narrator. While she did sound like a sassy teenage girl, I know myself as a teenager would not have appreciated the "valley girl" voice that the character was given. I waited patiently for the boy narrations so I could relax back into the story, the girl voice got on my nerves.
    Perfect Christmas/Holiday Read
Dash and Lily. Theyre two different people, living two different lives. But they just might have a mutual friend. This is the story of how a red moleskin notebook brings them together. Coincidentally and Destiny-tally?
This is the PERFECT Christmas/Holiday Read. It starts on the 21st of December (when I started reading it!) and goes through New Years Day! It brings out the best of the holiday spirit Lily is full of generosity! But Dash is who stole my heart! Oh, you cynical self proclaiming word-nerd, how you stole my heart! Some people might still think Dash is snarly but I enjoyed his dry sarcastic ways! And the audiobook really brought out Dashs humor.
    So adorable! very heartwarming.
very cute Christmas book! Teenybopper book but still a great read.

    Trash review
Good mystery about government corruption, extreme poverty, and friendship. Mostly good performances, but I'm wondering why they couldn't get a Spanish speaker to read for Rat; the boy who narrates Rat sounds like he's attempting an Eastern European accent.
    The book was incredible!
I must say, there was a lot of unsespected things that were happening on the book but that's the part where is fell in love with the book. I was surprised when it's heard Jun-juns voice but that's how the boys described him to sound like. i live this action packed book!
    Great book!
This is a must read. It is very well written and has unexpected twists. Kids always love seeing kids win! These kids win big! (9 year old daughter)

    Publisher's Summary:
Climbing to the top of the social ladder is hard - falling from it is even harder. Regina Afton used to be a member of the Fearsome Fivesome, an all-girl clique both feared and revered by the students at Hallowell High... until vicious rumors about her and her best friend's boyfriend start going around. Now Regina's been "frozen out" and her ex-best friends are out for revenge.
If Regina was guilty, it would be one thing, but the rumors are far from the terrifying truth, and the bullying is getting more intense by the day. She takes solace in the company of Michael Hayden, a misfit with a tragic past who she herself used to bully. Friendship doesn't come easily for these onetime enemies, and as Regina works hard to make amends for her past, she realizes Michael could be more than just a friend... if threats from the Fearsome Foursome don't break them both first.
Tensions grow and the abuse worsens as the final days of senior year march toward an explosive conclusion in this dark new tale from the author of Cracked Up to Be.
    Members Reviews:
Non-funny Mean Girls in a book.
If youve seen the movie Mean Girls, you probably dont need to read Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers. That is, unless you have a morbid fascination with high school drama llamas that are ten million times worse than Regina George could ever hope to be.
I cant tell if I liked this book or if I hated this book. On principle alone, it pissed me off. Full disclosure: Regina Afton, our protagonist, almost gets raped by her best friends boyfriend at a party in the first or second chapter. Rape scenes in books dont bother me when they contribute to the story. What bothers me is when its used as a plot device, like in Some Girls Are. What bothered me specifically about this book is that Regina never goes to the police. Like, ever. Instead, her friend Kara talks her into keeping quiet, because her best friend Anna Morrison will never believe her anyway (as if thats a good reason not to go to the police), thus catapulting the plot into a series of revenges against one another for past transgressions, thrusting Regina in the spotlight at school and as an outcast.
It was a captivating book, dont get me wrong. But its hard for me to get past the idea that Regina never turns Donnie in.
I pretty much hated all the characters, but I think that was Courtney Summers intention. They were miserable creatures; they were mean to each other, and there was not one thing they wouldnt do to one another in an act of revenge. It was especially hard not to dislike Regina, even though were in her head and shes the main character. Shes spent a lot of time being a bitch to her classmates over the years, even going so far as to bully someone nearly to suicide (all the while, seeing a therapist because she couldnt handle it). Regina was an odd duck. While I did dislike her, I didnt hate her, because I could see that she didnt like herself. She was full of self-loathing, and really, that was punishment enough.
If anything, Some Girls Are was an eye-opening book into bullying in schools. But I applauded Regina for not taking it laying down. Dont be an easy target, thats what my mom always taught me.
There are a few loose ends in Some Girls Are that never really get tied up: we never find out what happens to Donnie (beyond not getting reported for rape, hes also a social outcast getting bullied), so his story and bullying just trails off.

    Thrilling, quirky, and interesting.
Although Lois Duncan's book "Killing Mr. Griffin" was written in the late 70's, it is still incredibly interesting and relevant. Perfect for older teenagers (it does contain swearing and adult themes), this book is both thrilling and well-written. Ed Sala does a fantastic job of reading the story as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a teenage story with strange and disturbing themes. Five stars, no complaints.

great book for teens and young adults
Great book. A 12th grade student said it was one of his favorites so I decided to buy it and share with the rest of my class. It is a great book that has surprises you'd never expect and great character development. The young man has tourettes and has had a tough childhood due to an abusive stepdad. As a young adult, he takes a cross-country trip and learns that he is not the reject his stepdad has led him to believe. He learns about his late father and how much he is like him.

I teach this book in class as part of a narrative unit. Even students who hate reading have enjoyed reading this book.
    Wonderful
One of my students told me to read this and so I did. I think it is a wonderful book for young adults to be reading. I think that it would resonate with many teenage boys. I have gone on to purchase more by Jonathan Friesen and can't wait to read his book that comes out this May.
Great book based on a medical condition
This book kept my attention. My grand-daughter and I read this for a book club at her middle school. It gave a perspective of someone living with a chronic illness and how he handled it.
I would definitely recommend it for young adults and adults.

    Definitely worth the time..
This is one of those books that could easily be overlooked, passed by or even one a reader may be scared away by the first impression of a boring book about bridge players. But if given a chance, readers of all ages are sure to agree THE CARDTURNER is so much more.
An honest and touching read THE CARDTURNER is not at all what youd expected from what at first glance seems to be a book that revolves around the playing of Bridge. Fortunately, at least for me, whos someone that doesnt even know how to play poker; this novel goes way beyond a game of cards. Yes this book contains quite a bit of technical passages in regards to the rules and strategy of playing bridge, but the story truly is one of relationships and personal growth and those technical bits can be skimmed through without really damaging the story as a whole, if the reader chose to do so, although I felt, even those parts were easy enough to follow and worthy of my novice attention.
Louis Sachar takes readers into the world of bridge in first-person narrative through 17 year old Alton. Alton, as in title, becomes a cardturner for his rich, blind and unwell great uncle at the insistence of his mother, who hopes to up their place in Uncle Lesters (aka Trapps) Will. Alton, a typical teenage guy with no previous knowledge of the game of bridge, takes the summer job of chauffeur and cardturner (not that he had a choice) and finds that there is a lot more to the old man than money and the questionable scandalize family stories hed grown up hearing.
Id highly recommend THE CARDTURNER to anyone who enjoys a good book, especially the audio version, which is narrated by the author.
not just for lovers of bridge
I loved this book. I have not played bridge in years but I enjoyed this look into the world of contract bridge. More than that, the voice of the teenaged narrator was genuine and true. Also, an excellent reader and an engaging story.
    psyche
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I listened to this book traveling to a bridge tournament so it was appropriate.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The bridge hands were authentic and enjoyable. The fantasy part was a little - well, fantastic.

    TEEN GENRE!!
Love Candace Bushnell and I have enjoyed laughing out loud while listening to her audiobooks, that said, I made this purchase by just seeing the author's name and not reading it thoroughly enough to see that now it was a teen series.
If you like the teen books, I think this will be a great read. It was not what I was expecting, and after a couple of hours, I was like, wait, is this labeled teen? Ms. Bushnell always is entertaining, great writer.
A lot better than the grown-up Bushnell books
This wasn't at all what I expected. It was way better! It is a lot more sincere and less materialistic than the so-called "Grown-up" Carrie franchise. In fact, I can't see how this Carrie grew up into the less substantial Carrie in the later books. What happened, did she get a lobotomy? The older reader knows exactly how Sebastian Kydd is going to turn out, and knows that George is a good guy and would hope Carrie learned to spot a good guy.
With that said, I LOVED the narrator!!!!!! The narrator did all the voices just right. I almost thought it was Sarah Jessica Parker. The "laid-back" voice of the privileged, sardonic Kydd was dead on. I could feel the lies dripping from Kydd's voice--I mean the narrator's. Perfect!
    Finally
    Any additional comments?
There are soo many books that are far from reality, so this was a nice surprise. If only I could find more books like this one in the teen section.
    terrible
I'm a big fan of SATC but I'm sorry, this book was terrible. It was boring and plotless with one-dimensional characters and a horrible narration. The only reason I listened to the entire thing is because I was on a road trip to and from Chicago with 10 hours of driving to fill- otherwise would have barely made it through the first half. This book underscores the reality that Bushnell had very little to do with the tv show "Sex and the City" which is a good thing. She is a terrible writer and I won't be purchasing anymore of her books!
    too much whining
The narrator is so unbearably annoying that I couldn't pay attention to the book, although I suspect her voice was perfectably suitable for the innane content I managed to listen to. Was quick to erase it from my IPOD and my memory. Hate to have wasted a credit on this trash!
