    Genres: Teens, Fiction & Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
A deluxe retelling of the cult classic film packed with tons of original bonus content. It gave us phrases like "That's so fetch" and "You can't sit with us!" It made October 3 a national holiday, and inspired teen girls everywhere to wear pink on Wednesdays. You know the story - or do you?
Cady Heron grew up homeschooled in Africa with scientist parents as her teachers, monkeys as her classmates, and the African plains as her playground. But when her family moves to the suburbs of Illinois, she finds herself a stranger in a strange land: high school.
With no prior research to guide her, Cady's forced to figure out North Shore High all on her own. Suddenly, she finds herself sucked into Girl World as a new member of the social elite dubbed "The Plastics". Cady discovers that unlike the wild, Girl World doesn't have any rules - especially when you maybe, possibly, okay, definitely, have a giant crush on their ruthless leader's ex-boyfriend. Turns out, life in high school might be even more brutal than a showdown on the Savannah.

    Competent novelization
I was neither impressed nor disappointed with Mean Girls: A Novel.
The audiobook very accurately follows the movie right down to the dialog, and it fills in some of the gaps in storytelling (for example, it explains why Regina stuck with the nutrition bars so long despite gaining weight).
Unfortunately, though, the additions are few and add little to the story, much like as if deleted scenes were added back into a movie. They don't significantly add to the story.
The humor of the movie does not directly translate into the written word, and the author's own humorous contributions are hit and miss.
Also, the novelization is written from the first person, but it shifts perspective very frequently. It's hard to keep up with who "I" is, especially in an audiobook. It doesn't help that the Plastics feel plastic even when we are seeing the world from their POV. This would have worked out much better written from a limited third person perspective.
The narrator gets Cady's voice right, but some other voices feel over-the-top. Not great, but not bad.
Overall, if you are a huge fan of the movie and just want to hear the story while walking or driving to work or doing exercise, this audiobook might satisfy you, but not much more than that.
D.N.F., but I won't apologize for this one.
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The following will answer the question. I promise... I'm a late-twenties man who was in high school when Mean Girls, written by TINA FEY and others, was in theaters. I LOVED that movie. LOVED IT! The fact that I can listen to an hour of this book and (because I love the film so much) can quote the book without having listened to it yet... That's just wrong and, to me, theft. I mean, I can't say it's word for word, but it's so close that I knew the dialogue before they even said it.
So, to answer the above question: Anyone who has not seen the movie (I suggest you see the movie and skip the book, but do whatever you want. And, I promise, I'm a book lover! I LOVE books. But, this is just recycled ideas that came WAY too quickly).

    Title: Wild Bird

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 31 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-05-17
    Publisher: Listening Library
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Teens, Fiction & Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
In her most incisive and insightful book yet, Wendelin Van Draanen, award-winning author of The Running Dream and Flipped, offers a remarkable portrait of a girl who has hit rock bottom but begins a climb back to herself at a wilderness survival camp in the desert.
It's 3:47 a.m. That's when they come for Wren Clemmens. She's hustled out of her house and into a waiting car, then a plane, and then taken on a forced march into the desert. This is what happens to kids who've gone so far off the rails, their parents don't know what to do with them anymore. This is wilderness therapy camp. Eight weeks of survivalist camping in the desert. Eight weeks to turn your life around. Yeah, right.
The Wren who arrives in the Utah desert is angry and bitter and blaming everyone but herself. But angry can't put up a tent. And bitter won't start a fire. Wren's going to have to admit she needs help if she's going to survive.
    Critic Reviews:
"I read Wild Bird in one long mesmerized gulp. Wren will break your heart - and then mend it." (Nancy Werlin, National Book Award finalist for The Rules of Survival)

    Critic Reviews:
"O'Neill's powerful novel digs into deep questions about rape culture that are difficult to listen to but essential to consider." (School Library Journal, starred review)
    Members Reviews:
It provided such a good insight into the devastating effects of drinking too much ...
Having read an article in the local newspaper written by Louise O'Neill on the subject of rape and consent in light of the recent Stanford rape case in the States, I read "Asking for it" in 2 sittings. It was an eye opener in terms of the public opinion on the way a girl dresses and behaves and if a gang rape is then almost deserved. It provided such a good insight into the devastating effects of drinking too much and what happens when your consent is taken away from you. The ending was by no means happy which is true to reality for so many survivors of rape. I think that every young person should be make to read this book .... boys need to 100% understand what consent is and that it is no longer valid from a girl if she is highly intoxicated or passed out. Young girls also need to understand the consequences of certain behaviours and drinking too much but in the end, no girl deserves to be raped no matter what.
    Eye opener
This book really opens your eyes to how people in our society still behave. It is a disgrace how people can treat others and talk about them so poorly on social media. Rape needs to be talked about and victims need to feel as supported to come forward. I cried through 50% of this book because it is not just the act that has the victims suffering it is how it affects their future and the lives of their families also. I hated the way the book ended, but I'm sure that's how most victims stories end because of the fear of how they will be treated if the do come forward.
    Made me think
Growing up in pretty much the same world as Emma I could relate to many aspects of this story. This book made me question my own thoughts on these situations that can occur so so easily. Awareness and lots of conversations are so badly needed. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
    Gorgeous and thought-provoking story
This story was heart wrenching and, unfortunately, all-too-familiar. At first, the author created a totally unlikeable character rather than someone you would easily defend.

    Language: English
    Release date: 08-01-17

    Publisher's Summary:
A gripping story of survival and the razor's-edge difference between perfect cruelty and perfect love.
"This isn't meant to be a confession. Not in any spiritual sense of the word. Yes, I'm in jail at the moment. I imagine I'll be here for a long time, considering. But I'm not writing this down for absolution, and I'm not seeking forgiveness, not even from myself. Because I'm not sorry for what I did to Rose. I'm just not. Not for any of it."
Ben Gibson is many things, but he's not sorry, and he's not a liar. He will tell you exactly about what happened on what started as a simple school camping trip in the mountains. About who lived and who died. About who killed and who had the best of intentions. But he's going to tell you in his own time. Because after what happened on that mountain, time is the one thing he has plenty of.
Smart, dark, and twisty, When I Am Through with You will leave listeners wondering what it really means to do the right thing.

You Might be a bit Disappointed
It's been a few days since I listened to this book, and I still don't know how I feel about it. Half the characters die in the end, and based on the ominous title, you would expect that, but the reality of how it happened was somewhat dull in comparison. I will say that I think the most striking scene, for me, was when Ben comes back from going on the treasure hunt search with Archie and he learns that it was all for nothing. I think it was a sharp, gripping understanding for both Ben and the reader. That kind of stuff is what I expected from this book, but every other death seems cliche and therefore meaningless. In terms of narration, I picked the book out because of both the ominous title and the fact that MacLeod Andrews read it, so I was really disappointed with the reading, and I don't think it's one of Andrews' best. Overall, I think the book should only be read in a guided manner through a book club. Personally, I wouldn't listen to it again otherwise.
It was a good time passer
The story follows a group of kids on the hiking trip that changed their lives (ending some)
The narrator did well. It was a good read. I didn't really find that there were many twist or anything shocking. Some things were predictable, but overall, still a good read.
There's closure for the most part.

    Publisher's Summary:
Saints and Misfits is an unforgettable debut novel that feels like a modern-day My So-Called Life...starring a Muslim teen.
There are three kinds of people in my world:
    1. Saints, those special people moving the world forward. Sometimes you glaze over them. Or, at least, I do. They're in your face so much, you can't see them, like how you can't see your nose.
    2. Misfits, people who don't belong. Like me - the way I don't fit into Dad's brand-new family or in the leftover one composed of Mom and my older brother, Mama's-Boy-Muhammad.
Also, there's Jeremy and me. Misfits. Because although, alliteratively speaking, Janna and Jeremy sound good together, we don't go together. Same planet, different worlds.
But sometimes worlds collide and beautiful things happen, right?
    3. Monsters. Well, monsters wearing saint masks, like in Flannery O'Connor's stories.
Like the monster at my mosque.
People think he's holy, untouchable, but nobody has seen under the mask.
    Except me.
    Members Reviews:
A very important and relatable story that's hard to put down.
I've been following this YA on Twitter for a hot minute and loved the preview chapter. I immediately ordered it and am finally reading the rest (about halfway through now, but at some point I'll have to stop and get work done, lol)! I'm hooked. Janna is such a recognizable and lovable characters. We feel /with/ her (which is just about the only thing that gets me through any full book). It's really a wonderful story for people of all backgrounds -- even adults! I don't want to give away too much of the story, but it was easy to relive high school with these characters. It's funny, exciting, and sometimes even frightening and sad. "Saints and Misfits" deals with some tricky but important topics in a nuanced, way.
I'd recommend this read for anyone.
Definitely one of my favourite novels of 2017! So clever, sassy and spot-on...loved it!
When I stumbled upon Saints and Misfits a few weeks ago, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was such a delight to read that I wish there still more chapters to read. Saints and Misfits shares the story of Janna, a hijabi teen whose Indian father leads a secular life while her Egyptian mother continues to be a practicing Muslim. Janna is dealing with criticism from some of her Muslim friends for hanging out with non-Muslims, lack of understanding from some non-Muslim friends who don't understand why she wears a hijabthe fear and frustration of being sexually assaulted by Farooq, the cousin of one of her closest friends and the sort of "perfect" boy that all parents adore.

    A Good Travel Book
it was a very well written travel book, I really felt like I traveled through out Europe with this group .. however I really disliked Leela, she is so selfish and I couldn't stand her at all .. Sydney is nice but I thought she was so annoying when she was so turned on when she see's Jackson, and the ending was not satisfactory for my taste
but it was a nice read
The narration wasn't the best but it was good enough
    Great story
I want Sidney's European trip. The sights and beauty. Really amazing story. Well written story
Made me start planning my own
I loved this book! It completely inspired me to start planning my own European adventure. I liked the voices the performer used for the dialogue of different characters and accents but the voice she spoke in for the main character was a little irritating until I got used to it.

Good book read by the author
This would have been better if it had been performed by the same guy that read the first book. Would have been 5 stars then. Even with the stupid cliché about republicans being racist.
Book 5 stars. Performance 3. But the author would get 5/5...
if he read the beginning like he read the end. I love Mr. Janney's characters and it is fascinating to hear how the author thinks they sound. His rookie performance gets great in the second half of the book.
Loved the book hate the narration
The author is the narrator for the book and he drained the life out of it. I love the series so far and the author said he really wanted to narrate one of his books but he really needs a lot more practice no offense. The last narrator brought so much life to the book please bring him back for the next one. Please! Or I dont think Ill buy it sorry
BUYER BEWARE. The author thinks he can narrate
The first audiobook is amazing, and so was the performance. But this one is complete dog and its all thanks to the author and his autistic attempt at voice acting. All his chars have the same voice exepct when he dose this thing where he slows down and talks loud in a Gandalf voice likes its suppose to sound cool and intimidating. But worst of all his neutering of the story. He took a good story with good writing and turned it into an outlaw fan fic all becuase the little flaws and nit-pics are magnified when kermit the frog is reading to you...
I powered through it and if you can too than by all means get the audiobook becuase its still a really good story. If you can't than just get the physical book
