Best one yet.

Both my son and myself agree that this one was the best so far. We both loved the idea of a kids mystery weekend and using the adults as the suspects. We also loved the fact that Maisys best friend is along for the ride. They have to work together as a team to solve the mystery within a mystery. This one was also a little spookier than the rest, which my son got a kick out of. He loved finding out if the manor was realy haunted or not.

In all, this series is a lot of fun. It's well written and developed and Maisy is such an awesome character that girls can aspire to be like. My son is eagerly hoping we see more mysteries being solved by her, though he did say he wanted to see a boy helping her out ;) Lol.

We have a new narrator for this edition and I have to say that I prefer her than the other one. Amy Rubinate did a more natural performance and we enjoyed listening to this more.

So excited to get to listen to book 3!

My three daughters - ages 11, 9, and 5 - all really enjoy the stories in this series and were eager to hear this latest installment. I asked them these questions when we finished so all of the following answers are their words.

We loved the mystery and that Maisy's best friend Veronica was able to pull off a big surprise for Maisy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maisy because she is a really unique detective and she find clues in the places where most children wouldn't think to look.

What does Amy Rubinate bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

She helped us understand the expressions better as well as adding little details like lisps to some of the characters.

Any additional comments?

There were some good plot twists in this one that kept us guessing and gave for some good surprises as we read. We love these books and are already looking forward to book four!

I have not only enjoyed this with my family including grand kids

This is definitely five star and the only disagreement I have is the age range. I have not only enjoyed this with my family including grand kids, but used it in our Bible Study with age ranges from 35 to 80, All ages will enjoy this and I did especially as I am old enough to have lived during the Golden Age of Radio. We thought of that as Theater of the Mind and this is truly that at its best. Kudos to Kevin Herren and his cast.

Great for family car rides and for churches!

This is a wonderful and entertaining way to listen to the story of the Creation, Noah, and Moses. Great for adults and children, this will entertain as well as educate your family or Sunday school class on these three stories from the Bible. I enjoyed the sound effects and the acting in all three stories. The way each story is told is easy for children to understand as much as entertaining for adults. I highly suggest this audio drama for families and churches.

Great intro to Bible

Very well done. Entertaining and good for all ages. A good intro for those being introduced to the Bible. Could be used for missions work, Vacation Bible school, nursing homes, etc.

Good reading for kids

Good reading for kids.

A fun and adventurous read.

This was a fun and adventurous read!!

When Jake suggests that they get a job for the summer, to earn money, Ben is hesitant. Then Jake says that they should become private detectives and he has found their first job. So Ben, Jake and their friend Leah form the trio known as Liarus Detective Agency! Their first job is to find a missing family heirloom. They are only given a few days to find it though, because it has to be back to it's owner before the full moon. What follows is a whole world that the gang never knew existed.

First off, isn't that cover awesome!! I love everything about it and it ties into the book perfectly. Ben and his glowing tattoos, the wolf in the graveyard and the creepiness!! Love it.

This was such a fun read. So many times I found myself laughing out loud at the antics and thoughts of the boys! The author did an amazing job of writing boys! Jake is a big bear of a guy and he was hilarious at times with his slagging off of Ben. Ben was fun as well but he did seem to be the more responsible of them. I loved his inner struggle with the feelings he seems to have for Leah. It was so cute but also realistic. All the characters were well written and developed and easy to connect with.

The plot was fun as well. I loved the mystery and suspense and really enjoyed the supernatural element. The history behind the missing trinket was really fascinating and I loved finding out about it along with the team.

Overall this is a fun and enjoyable read. I do hope there is more from these lovable characters and fun world!!! I know my sons would really enjoy this and have no trouble recommending it.

Really good!

In the time that I've been reviewing Howl at the Moon is the first Middle-Grade novel I have read. It's not that I have any prejudice towards the genre, just that maybe I've been looking in the wrong places! I immediately loved the cover of L.A. Starkey's book, which definitely captures the mood of the story.

Howl at the Moon is perfectly crafted for its Middle-Grade audience. We encounter the expected angst from hormonal 13-year-olds in the midst of puberty and see scenes of first kisses and unrequited love. If phrases like, '"I'm pants crapping, undies peeing, shortcake barfing scared" ' make you roll your eyes, then this probably isn't the book for you! :-)

Neither boys realise how the search for the Lykoi Crest will impact upon their lives, as they discover the paranormal world that exists beyond their limited realities.

L.A. Starkey's characters range from thoughtful to humorous; dramatic to mystical and caring to threatening. However, each fills a specific role in how the story is told.

A Christian Alternative to the Harry Potter Series

This is an excellent book. If you are a parent looking for a good book for your young readers (9 and up) this is the book. The book is a fun story with a great message about doing what is right, over coming your fears, and trusting in God.

Great book!!

Sebastian Shepherd is a great book and Gilliland is a talented writer. I look forward to reading the next books in the series.

Magic Realism At Its Best

This is a delightful book--a delicately wrought fantasy, the essence of magic realism. It is the tale of a Moroccan boy led on mystical adventures by a fennec -- a desert fox. I read Fez an untold number of times in the 4th grade; remembered it fondly over the decades; luckily found a library copy a few years ago and read it with pleasure once again. I can safely state that (in my case at least) Ms. Hoffmann's book is for readers of all ages -- from 10 years to senior citizens. I should also state that lodged in my memory through the years, Fez informed my own writing. I thank Ms. Hoffmann for that as well. It was a pleasant mystery to me how an early-20th Century American woman could have such knowledge of Moroccan culture. Fortunately her heirs have now republished this little masterpiece. In so-doing they provide information I always suspected: The author was a uniquely adventurous spirit. She traveled alone in North Africa in the 1920s supporting herself by purchasing tribal rugs and "was a pioneer doing business as a single woman in a traditional Islamic culture." The book's illustrations by Fritz Eichenberg, are delicate line drawings in perfect harmony with the text. Eichenberg was an adventurous spirit in his own right. A left wing graphic artist opposed to the Nazis, he fled Hitler's Germany and made his way to New York. There he taught at The New School -- and provided the fine drawings for Fez. I have just ordered the new paperback and look forward to sharing it with children and grandchildren and friends. Hmmm... maybe I need a few copies.

Charming and magical

What a wonderful and beautifully written story.

I hope to find a few copies to share with family members. The blending of imagination and legend is superb. It is clear that the author spent much time in Morocco and captures the magical atmosphere.

Finally available

I started reading this book in the Collier's Encyclopedia Children's books, but the story wasn't complete. Now, 40 years or so later, I was able to finish the story! I'm glad they made it available again. It is out of print and the used copies are very expensive if you can find them. The closest library copy I could find was over 100 miles away!

Favorite Book When I Was Young.

I read this book when I was a child , That was in the 60s or 70s.. It came with a set of encyclopedias and it is one of my favorite books.

I was looking for it for my Grandchildren to read. I was looking for it for a couple of months and hopeing that someone would sell a old copy. I was delighted to see that it has been reprinted.

Marvelously Written Book by a Masterful MG Author--Story of a Young Girl, Communication & America's Greatest Crisis

Another marvelous Middle Grade book from this terrific author, Gayle Rosengren (WHAT THE MOON SAID, 2014 JUNIOR LIBRARY GUILD SELECTION and ILLINOIS READS selection). As w/ MOON, just a model of terrific MG fiction, beautifully written and structured, with an incredibly interesting, lovable, and complex main character (Joanna), and an engrossing and spot-on story-line capturing the essence of being a 12 year-old during one of the scariest (and most significant) weeks in American & World History (the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. SHOULD BE PERFECT FOR USE BY TEACHERS AND LIBRARIANS---not only for a perfect reflection of a young person's experience during this or any serious national crisis, but as a powerful lesson on the importance of communication in life, whether it be in the context of a national or international crisis or in the complex lives of young people, their families, and their friends/neighbors, whether during such a crisis or in their daily lives. As with MOON, I read this book twice and loved it even more the second time. Kudos to Gayle Rosengren for another perfectly-written & utterly fascinating MG novel.

Once again Rosengren has created unforgettable characters whose lives allow history to come to life on the page. For a generation of young readers who have lived with ongoing wars, who may have siblings, parents, neighbors or friends serving in war zones, this book will be a revelation.

I held my copy after receiving it, wanting to read it during the weeks of the actual CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS in 1962. At that time I could have been in the same classroom as her characters, living with the same adolescent concerns, thrown into the same terrifying fears about the nuclear clock ticking seconds away from "midnight".

If you don't know what that means, this is a book that will bring it all to life, with heart and relationships and plot that will make the experience as unforgettable to you as it is to me. Then investigate the history, too. Please, read her book, sooner rather than later.

A must for MG!

Wow! Gaye Rosengren does it again! She has this incredible way of writing a historical MG novel that is relatable to kids today. COLD WAR ON MAPLEWOOD STREET takes place during the scary time in US history when the Russians set up missiles in Cuba and aimed them at the United States. We were so close to being involved in a nuclear war that our entire nation was gripped by this crisis.
