First Library Book !!

This was the first library book I ever read. I found it at a Mobile Library in the early 1950's -- sat and read it during my lunch/recess because it was so wonderful. I was in 3rd grade and I never will forget the excitement of being able to pick a book and check it out and read it. The librarian was surprised when I came back and asked for another mystery.

I had to find a copy of it and give it to my grandchild. Had no idea it had been an Ellery Queen mystery...

Green Turtle Mystery

I'm just thrilled with this book! I've been looking for it for years. I'm retired now, and an avid reader, especially of mysteries. This was the first mystery I ever read...back in Junior High School! I've finally found a copy...and it's even the same cover I'd read originally! Brings back wonderful memories. Pam

A tale for the young that all can enjoy

J. Thorn has already proven to me that he is a master of spinning a great horror tale. Now, he moves his unique twisted vision to the younger set with "The Monroeville Monster: Don't Go Into The Woods." A story he originally crafted for his children, Thorn takes the Goosebumps format of youthful fear and ratchets it up about 100 notches with a well crafted story of three children, along with the family dog, heading into the Pennsylvania woods surrounding their grandparents house one night on a quest that only a child could think prudent: To go out and get a picture of the elusive Monroeville Monster. Along the way they run into scare after scare, and although designed for a younger reader, this fear fest is done skillfully enough for anyone to enjoy. A good story for a parent who is a fan of horror to read as an introduction to the magical world of suspense to their children. Give this tale a chance and I bet you'll be as terrified as the three young adventurers who wonder into dangerous ground for that elusive "picture of a monster."

Something lurking around every corner

This is a great, page turner of a spooky adventure. As the story unfolds, Brenna, Brady, Sandy, and Ginger the beagle find some new sort of weird with every step they take into the Monroeville forest. I recommend it for anyone excited for Halloween or wants to scare themselves silly before going on a hike through the woods.

Tons of fun!

This book was a blast. As a grown man, I think I enjoyed it just as much as I would have as a kid. Coming from J. Thorn, I thought it might be a little scarier than it ended up being (which would have been even better for my taste), but the way it's written delivers just the right level of creepiness for its target audience. It touches on ghosts and alternate dimensions and monstrous entities, all while keeping its tone light, fun, and adventurous.

It'll spook the kids, but it won't keep them up too many nights.

I'll be giving this to my 10-year-old to read next. I've no doubt he's going to love it.

Hey kiddos - a new scary story to read in the dark

Growing up with R.L. Stineâs Goosebumps and Fear Street series, the plot and characters of The Monroeville Monster threw me right back into my favorite childhood reads. J. Thorn has written a suspenseful adolescent scary story that contends with the best of the Goosebumps. I am looking forward to sharing this story with my stepson, as he and I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. The references to Kennywood brought a nostalgic smile to my face.

I secretly hope that J. Thorn starts a series for children as scary stories help expand the imaginations of children, enabling them to think âoutside the boxâ.

She would leave a plateful of muffins for him on the table and he should leave the ones in the basket alone and keep them covered, so they would stay fresh. She told the bear that she would know if he tried to sneak any of the basket muffins. Then she added that he should not disturb her in the morning when he woke, because she would need to sleep late to catch up on her sleep. The bear went to bed.

This is a very interesting book, with a great story line and the most beautiful illustrations. I really enjoyed reading it with my great-grand-son. The part that touched me the most, was the light that was shined on dyslexia. The arthor' ability to weave it into the story without mentioning it was ingenious.

Friendship Bog Series 3

Pibbin has cookie box chips to pass out for the Cookie Fest, so he can earn his star. Along his way he finds a strange tunnel and goes in to check it out. A little way in, he steps into a trap! Pibbin manages to free himself and gets out of the tunnel as fast and as far away as he can. Little does he know, he will have to go back into this very tunnel.......

Pibbin to the rescue, this time with the help of his friends Leeper and Alix; to find Alix's little brother Duffy that has disappeared. Pibbin does not know they will have to search the tunnel where he once was trapped, in order to bring Duffy home.

Gloria Repp has created another adventure in The Friendship Bog called "Trapped" which is the third in the Bog Series. Pibbin demonstrates how with the help of his friends, they can accomplish anything, even if it seems impossible. He also learns that friends and family are more important than any star he could earn handing out the cookie chips.

This 3rd Friendship Bog story has a new Illustrator - Michael Swain. So cute are the characters and full of expression. Just one peek at the front cover says it all. Great job Michael Swain!

In this third Pibbin the frog adventure things are off to an exciting start. Pibbin has his backpack and is out doing his best to give away the wooden Cookie Box Chips. If he can get rid of them all he will earn his star. (The creatures who take a chip agree to donate a plate of cookies.) When out, Pibbin discovers a hole in the ground. The gate is open so he heads down the tunnel even though he doesn't know who lives there. He determines that it doesn't belong to a snake but before he can do any more investigating he finds himself in a trap. AAGH! How will he get out?

When Pibbin meets Marteena Whitefoot, a mouse, they hear the news from the three peeper frogs, Bo, Mo and Slo, that young Duffy squirrel is missing! Marteena suggests that Pibbin help look for him but Pibbin still has five chips left. Which is more important to him? Marteena informs him that the last time she saw Duffy, he was playing with Cheeco the chipmunk. Does Cheeco know where Duffy is? Alix, Duffy's brother is very worried about him as is their mother Zip.

Nisk, the squirrel adds some interest in this story. As we were reading I asked the children which of the Mr. Men characters, Nisk reminded them of and they were very quick to answer, "Mr.

Maisy is back!

Maisy is back with another mystery happening in the school. She dives back into her detective mode when lunch money is being taken from students. Along with her best friend, she needs to figure out who the culprit is and get her cherry lollipop reward.

Once again, Maisy makes for a great heroine. She is smart, brave and above a else, really fair and kind. This mystery in particular will pull on the heart strings. The reason behind the theft becomes apparent but Maisy treats the culprit kindly though doesn't let them get away with it.

My son enjoyed this but not as much as the first. He said it didn't have the same clues or mystery that the first had. I thought the same myself. This just didn't have the same feel as book 1. It wasn't as exciting nor as engrossing. Saying that though, it was still a really great read for him and he is excited about seeing what else Maisy gets up to. It's a fun and interesting series and one all kids will enjoy.

Reba Buhr once again, sounded a little too high pitched and forced for the performance. I would of liked her to be a little more natural.

I would admit that this book has a unique way of teaching kids, I is just like most reading books that it has questions to the story that the kid who read the story would try to answer. and the answers are located in the last page of the book. I would rate this book a 5 because.

-it prepares kids in trying to understand what they read

-overall it prepares them for school.
