Not my cup of tea

I just could not listen after the first few chapters I was bored and could not deal with the presenter

Waste of a Credit.

This book sounded much more interesting than it was. Most explained the Mormon polygomy and religous beliefs of this particular group. The FBI men in the story came across as dullards allowing the highest church leaders advising them what the FBI should do. The investigator of the murder was a religious "priest"...the story made little sense. The dialaog was boring with all the discussion of the religious beliefs between the people IN the religion. Those discussing it should already have known this information.

I barely could finish the book.

It was a good premise for a story but I don't feel it was executed properly.

Murder in a polygamist sect

A woman running through the night carrying a small child. The next day the woman is found dead and the child is found sleeping in her own bed. For the polygamist sect in Blister Creek Utah, having the authorities poking around would be a very bad thing. They turn to another related sect from Alberta, Canada, to investigate the murder. Jacob Christianson, a medical student, and his sister Eliza are sent to investigate. As they dig deeper, they uncover more than just murder. The tension builds and finally comes to a crashing climax.

It was ok

The main problem with this book was the lead character Meg. She's professionally and emotionally immature throughout the book. She's desperate to keep her job but then doesn't meet her deadline. She crushes on her boss like she's twelve and pushes away a viable relationship with her best friend, Matt. Even though she pushes him away she can't help but notice how physically fit he is. It took me a while to get in to the story and but it turned out to be ok. I will probably get the next book.

Suspense the whole way through!

We loved this book, it was well performed and the story kept us on our toes. There were many discussions about who the culprit was, but we didn't get it until right before Meg! Highly recommend, the Pacific Northwest scenery was a great setting for the book and we and wait to get our hands on the next book!

Enjoyable light reading for the mystery reader

The setting and event that sets this mystery in motion are interesting and provide the reader with many different possibilities. As the author weaves the reader through the thoughts and evidence of the crime, one looks to see whether the information provided will bring the investigators to the truth of crime. The story sometimes wanes in its pace, but overall maintains the reader's interest. As the author brings the story to it's conclusion, the reader reflects on the "bread crumbs" that the author had provided to see how the book finally ends.

Disappointing

I bought this book because it was supposedly set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. That is not the case. Traverse City, Gaylord, Petoskey. These are all towns in the Northern Lower Peninsula. There is nothing Yooper about it. Aside from that I find the storyline slow and it jumps around too much. I would not recommend this book to anyone, especially not to a Yooper!!!

This is the third book in the author's fly fishing mystery series. For those readers that enjoy fly fishing, this book is a must read. If you also love mysteries, this book grabs you at page one and will hold your attention until the last page.

Dan once again tries to help a very pretty young lady

This is book 2 of 3, from the Files of Dan Coast, amateur

PI and Key West bar fly.

Well, they would be from his Files, if he kept any, that is.

Dan Coast is a lottery winner, but he asks that you, don't

let anyone know about that little detail, so hush is the word.

Dan's wife was killed in a car accident, which may or may not

have been caused by his dog, which explains his hot/cold

feelings, for said pooch.

When not at his beach side house, Dan can be found at his

friend, Red's, Bar and Grill slamming a few drinks, and then a

few more.

In this tale, Dan once again tries to help a very pretty young lady,

that is sporting a black eye, well she did hide in his car, oh yeah,

BTW, her husband might be with the Mob, if there was such a thing.

Then she goes missing, and things get crazy from there......

Oh no, you got enough information from me already.

It is a quick read, I finished it in less than 2 hours, but then again.

Another winner by Rodney Riesel

Another enjoyable, fast-paced book from Rodney Riesel. This is book 2 of the Dan Coast series and again, Mr. Riesel has another winner on his hands. I am really having a good time with Dan's sarcasm and smart-ass attitude. Dan gets in a situation most men would envy, until tragedy strikes and he must sort out what happened. Along with his buddy Red, Dan must "solve" the murder of the girl he didn't want to fall for but was in fact doing just that. This book has many plot twists and leaves the reader hanging in "whodunit" fashion.

A fun, quick read...and how can you go wrong when a Grady-White makes an appearance?!

A Pleasure to Read

I really enjoyed latest tale by Mr. Diesel, and especially the way it is told. His ingeniously basic and folksy style with its endearingly minute detailing of common acts have a way of getting one delightfully immersed in the story. Also, his worldly characters, none of which take themselves too seriously, adds to the leisure and pleasure of the reading experience. All in all, a nice little tale with the essential ingredient of being well told.

Great read for a Key West Adventure

We travel again with Dan in his roller coast life of twists and turns. The characters are interesting and more details about the characters from the first book in this series. This second book is better written and flows easier. Looks like Dan Coast gets stood up in his detective work but he comes on great at the ending. You will love Paula and Jimmy P as the new story unfolds.

Authentic Feel Suffers From Disjointed Plot

"Evil Hours" is a 2011 novel by Raymond Benson, who is primarily known for his James Bond novels. It is a standalone novel, and is not connected with any other series that Benson has penned.

Set in the small and fictional West Texas town of Limite, "Evil Hours" seems to be a rather personal project by author Benson. Himself a West Texas native, Benson has an obvious grasp on the culture, speech, and atmosphere of the area. The book has an "authentic" feel to it, and does not at all feel contrived; this is really where the book shines. Though I am not positive, I think the book is loosely based on the Texas Killing Fields murders of the 1970s.

From the outset of the book, many characters are introduced, and I was not able to keep up with them all. I found the characters to be interesting and well-developed, with personalities and mannerisms consistent with the novel's rural Texas setting, but were just too many to keep track of. I also found the novel to be disjointed. There are many flashback scenes (around half the book), and they are not always in the order in which they occurred, adding to the complication. The writing style in the flashback scenes is often very dry, with little personality. I also feel that the plot also does little to draw the reader in. From the beginning, we know the identity of the murderer, which takes a lot of wind out of the sails of the story. At the end of the novel, there is little sense of resolution, since there wasn't a whole lot to resolve in the first place. The ending is underwhelming and quite frankly, a little disappointing.

I don't mean to trash this novel, but I enjoyed some of Benson's other work much more, and would encourage you to check out some of his other titles. If you are looking for a moody and legitimate-feeling West Texas tale, you might give "Evil Hours" a shot, but otherwise go explore some of Benson's other finer titles.

This is a book with many references to Odessa/Midland and a specific incident that went on. It speaks of many many west texas people back in the early fifties and many of those folks are legions (both good and bad). It was very interesting to me.

Different from "Angels," but great.

Ellory captures his characters wonderfully, with essential nuances while still putting together a great plot. This book is not as elegantly written as "Angels," but it is a different type of book. More murder mystery and in a shorter time period.

Think James Lee Burke meeting Ian Rankin somewhere in New York City.

Great narration. Nicely paced and captures the mood of the novel and the characters.
