    Awesome adaptation
This expansion of a short story from Polyphemus - also by Shea - adds a lot without losing the feel of the original. Would be great to see more of his short stories receive this treatment.
    Great Story
The storytelling is enjoyable and makes the novel worth listening to. The only problem is the actor's whispering in parts of the narrative. Yes, the characters are whispering but the result is missing the words. This detracts from the full telling. Great characters to care about. Expert telling from multiple points of view. Look foreword to reading the next book.

    Great fun, well worth listening
As much Martial Arts Adventure as Science Fiction, well narated and presented. Light, fast, entertaining, and a great way to spend a few hours.
    An action packed novel.
What made the experience of listening to The Musashi Flex the most enjoyable?
I enjoy Steve Perry's novels. This is an action packed read. One interesting thing is this novel is the basis of several of his other novels within the same universe. They aren't exactly a series, just various one shot novels that are connected by an overarching story arch. My only regret is that the author started making more money doing licensed books such as aliens and really stopped coming up with his own material.
What did you like best about this story?
Lots of action and a good overall plot.
Did Joe Barrett do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
He did a so-so job of differentiating characters. He is passable but doesn't have a great range.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, this is a fun quick read.
    Any additional comments?
A great book. The narrarator is average, but doesn't ruin the story. I''d advise taking a look as Steve Perry is a good author who does great action series. It isn't on audio but everyone should read his novel "The Man Who Never Missed". Awsome stuff!
    Entertainning !
The book may be a little long but Steve Perry makes it worth the time if you got time. Even though it has some 'other world' jargon it's pretty easy to understand what is implied and for me the main character and simple storyline makes it a good listen. The only thing I didn't like was that the fight scenes didn't portray any pain or emotion when someone was fatally wounded.
    Great story, great narrator
A Musashi Flex is a prequel to the Matador series it is simple story with a compelling world and convincing characters. The narrator had a fantastic delivery. If you enjoy space opera and combat I think you'll enjoy this book.
    Great entertainment. Great performance.
One of the best books revolving around the martial arts and it's practitioners I have come across.
Full characters well fleshed out and clear, interactions plausible, settings and history/background well and elegantly described. The story moved along quickly and caught me up in it from the get-go.
Anyone into military scifi, the battles in spaceopera, even the one on one combat of epic fantasy will enjoy this immensely.
My thanks to Steve Perry for a great book, and to Joe Barret for distinct, interesting, well acted, and consistent characters.
Of note is the hero, and resident badass, is portrayed with a (passable - work on the "I", Joe) Southern accent which is as it should be.

    Great concept and enjoyable story
I really enjoyed it, and was thrilled to know that there was a second book. But a warning...the second book takes place 100 years in the future, but was written by the author in 1986 and has 28 books in that series. Star Wars type deal. Both books are good (although second is a bit dated with super cheese macho dialog). But the second does not really talk about many of the characters from the first book that you want to know about. So I can only hope that Mr. Robbins is planning some books that take place between the two. I am having surgery and will have 6-8 off from work so maybe I'll read the other 27 books! :)
Didn't live up to its expectations
I thought the idea of the story was great. But the author would go into detail on some things but then skip over major plot lines. It also had no ending .. and part two was a totally stand alone book so there really was no ending.
    Doomsday 1
Started out good, but got weird at end. No conclusion yet and I assume there are sequels.
    Prequel for the Endworld series
Most of you may not be familiar with this series or its author but I have read this series since I was around 12 years old. It remains one of my cherished childhood memories sitting by the pool with a new Endworld and reading it straight through. I did a lot of book reports growing up on Endworld and the dystopian future it revealed. I remember even writing an essay about if the apocalypse could possibly happen in this way. Needless to say I love this series and for those who are confused about characters and why it stops where it does just find the series in paperback (they have the first four on audible and eBook format) and give it a read. You'll understand that this book was just the foundation of what was to come. Another book "A girl, the end of the world and everything" is also part of this universe. It all builds upon characters that are known in a series called Endworld, that is 28 books ongoing as of now. Love this series and everything in it!
Barely worth the time(Trying to avoid spoilers)
What was most disappointing about David Robbinss story?
The premise has merit but the execution of the initial plot lines is awful. It starts like most End Of Civilization stories with things going from bad to worse as you meet the main characters. But as each one finds themselves in the expected tough situation cliffhanger, it just ends there! You find out a few chapters later that this character or that one arrived safely..Ummmmm OK. Great.
As it progresses it just gets..strange. It seems that most of the main characters are a bit...odd.

"This book is so mature in its sensibility, so strong in its artistry, so deep in its invention that most of us who write science fiction would be proud to have such a novel as the culmination, not the beginning of our career." (Orson Scott Card)
    Members Reviews:
    Captivating Story
I thoroughly enjoyed The Golden Queen. It had the winning combo of an interesting and varied setting, fascinating three-dimensional characters and a captivating storyline. Perhaps it was having a bear as one of the main characters but I found the story reminded me of The Golden Compass. I also found the narration very well done. The varied accents of the narrator made it easy to keep the characters apart without being over stated or distracting. An overall well done reading/listening experience.
    KISS ME QUICK BIRDS
HIS EYES WERE AS HUGE AS A STALLIONS TESTICLES
BEARS NEED THE WOODS LIKE BIRDS NEED THE SKY
THE MAN IS SO CLEAN, IF YOU TOOK A BATH WITH HIM, YOU COULD USE HIM FOR SOAP.
IF SOMEONE LOOPED OFF YOUR HEAD, IT WOULD BE NO LOSS, YOUR GONADS WOULD DO ALL THE THINKING.
When this story starts out it, sounds like an amusing fantasy. It is funny and you meet some interesting characters, but before you get a chance to explore what seems to be an interesting world, we change worlds. The book goes from fantasy to Sci-Fi. The Science has lots of genetics, human sized insects, mind control, robots, etc..
Farland who wrote this book originally under the name Wolverton does not write Science Fiction as well as he writes fantasy. Though he has lots of gadgets and he explains them, it just does not come off as believable. He should have stuck to fantasy and explored the first world more completely before changing gears. It was an early novel and it reads like an early novel. Under the name Farland, he seems to write only fantasy and he sells more books. He is creative and has talent in writing fantasy. He also has plenty of cool one liners, as witness above.
The narrator does not help, his voice is too sweet and sounds like he is reading Dr. Seuss.
GOD, BE WITH YOU, FOR I SHALL NOT.
A Strong Opening Book To A Galaxy-Spanning Trilogy
If you follow scifi and fantasy writers, you know that David Farland can write, and write well. But...
Is THIS first book in the Golden Queen trilogy more of the same? I am happy to report that it most definitely is just that - An engaging, solid noteworthy first of three books.
This audiobook will capture your imagination, and actually trick you a bit. At first, you'll be completely convinced that it's a fantasy novel. Later, you'll realize that it's actually high scifi. What begins on one world and its diverse peoples and animals (talking bears, for instance), quickly moves to gateways between worlds and human and insect galactic civilizations at war.

    Such great characters
It's not often I get angry with a book. Well, not with the book itself but rather with the characters in it. Kay Kenyon has managed to do this with every one of her books. Her creatures are so unique and well expressed, her villains so deep and the story so elaborate, this third installment has left me hungering for the final.
Additionally, I've enjoyed the reader, so hopefully he'll remain for the last book.
Don't be put off by the sci fi classification. This is great reading period!

A very poor reading with virtually no Soul
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This is a great book. I just suggest you buy the actual book itself and not waste time with this recording
What didnt you like about Jim Frangiones performance?
I thought the performance was incredibly amateurish. It sounded like a 1st read through with almost surprised stops at the end of sentences as if he wasn't expecting them while over inflating other parts of sentences that required no emphasis. Among other things when someone is "secunded" it should not be read as seconded and one would assume if the reader didn't pick it up the director would've corrected it.The reader also has no range for alternate voices and when you pay this much money for performance you expect it would not just be a read through without any voice acting of any kind.
    Any additional comments?
Very uneven audio publications from this company. I've had some very good productions from this company but both titles by this author have been far from acceptable.
    Could Not Finish
Narrator did not make significant vocal distinction among the characters. Storyline was too drawn out and jumped around so much that, combined with the problems with the narration, I lost interest after an hour or so.
    Setting versus Story
Being a fan of China Mieville (Perdido Street Station) I read an interview where Mr. Mieville touted the talents of Harrison's other novel "The Course of the Heart." As I could not find that book on audible, I decided to give this one a try. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
The book follows the exploits of a criminal "travel agent" known as Vick Serotonin who for a fee will take "tourists" into the "event site," an alien region where time and space behave erratically. Harrison's strengths are his attention to characterization. There is a large assortment of interesting and fascinating people that are lifted with great skill from the detective-noir stories of the 1950s (think of the film Double Indemnity) and their speech and mannerisms are conveyed well. You really get a sense for how these people speak and act.
The characterization unfortunately uses up the authors talents and leaves no room for a decent plot. The story meanders back and forth through the assortment of characters, and the novel fails for a long long time to offer any truly convincing motives for its characters. For example, there is truly no reason given as to why tourists eschew the law and want to visit the event site, other than some oblique references to a desire "to find that which they seek." There is also the requisite old-time detective who is chasing Vick throughout the novel. His backstory is the weakest and his motives border on cliche.

    Another great collection
Volume 24 is another great collection of short form speculative fiction stories. There were a number of stand outs in this issue.
My favorites include: Ian McHugh's 'Bitter Dreams', J. Kathleen Cheney's 'Taking a Mile', Patrick Lundrigan's 'Hanger Queen', David Parish-Whittaker's 'A War in the Belly of a Mouse'
All of the stories are of the highest quality and listening to them on Audible is extremely convenient.
    Very entertaining
The stories are all great entertainment from fresh talent. I enjoyed all of them. The performances are also very good. I listened to this on a long drive and it was interesting enough to keep listening to the entire time.
What I didn't like was that each story comes with an "about the author" and an "about the illustrator" that are read by an automated voice. The authors and illustrators have achieved something great and they deserve the chance to publish their bios, but some of them are extremely long and the narration of these is tedious.
Overall, it was well worth the credit for 14 hours of fresh-faced speculative fiction.
not so much a book review as a people review
I bought this with a view to assess the different stories and see who was "one to be noted" for the future.
I find it to be very disappointing in that too many peoples potted life histories were taking up too much time and a boring litany of people connected to each author were reviewed as well.
Actual "book time " very low.

how does this man think of these things?
I have just finished listening to this book, and the way Terry Prachetts mind works facinates me. I am almost completely blind but somehow this man lets me SEE the things he is talking about, and there is so much variety in his writing. This book takes us clear into a future that may or may not happen, but makes us wish that it would, no other writer makes me feel this way, and takes me laughing into his strange worlds.
    A miss step for Terry
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes as I'm a big Pratchett fan. No as it was, by far, the worst novel he has penned.
The characters where very thin, not 'believable'. I must admit I didn't really follow the plot. (and on this one occasion Terry lost the plot).
There where several occasions that sentences just didn't make sense.
Stephen does a good, though not as great a job as usual
This is only for die hard fans!
Strata - where DiscWorld probably began
When listening/reading this, it really should be remembered that this a very early book from TP. It is complicated - but I enjoy that. What I also find fascinating are the references that show the first glimmerings of the idea of discWorld emerging. And as ever with Terry's books, hidden in there is some very complex and interesting philosophy. Also, as ever, Stephen Briggs is brilliant - he doesn't merely narrate - he performs this book.
amazingly relevant considering when it was written
the thing about Pratchett is that he just knows how to write humans. even sci fi future humans..
this is a great story. love the fact it touches on discworld in a non magical setting.. screw about with physics a bit..nice.
read brilliantly with some tricky accents that are held very consistently.
    recommended!
Excellent performance of a great story.
A real shame storyline didn't get picked up again. As with any other Terry Pratchett work this is Quirky, Witty, Outstandingly Clever, and playfull.
This is a different taken on Terry.. clearly demonstrating an ability to captivate and build characters somehow using less words and engaging more imagination or the readers/listeners behalf..
..I'm already looking forward to the re-"read".
Terry left us all too soon...I'd like to think he's off stacking discworlds on the back of elephants standing on top of turtle's and hurtling the off through some far flung corner of space.
    All the best,

    Pratchett at hid best
Probably the best of the DiscWorld novels, with added value from Tony Robinson's excellent reading.
    Loved it
I am a fan of Terry Pratchett books and found this one a good new angle on the diskworld series. Tony's reading was good, perfect for listening to on my commute
